This location has been a number of restaurants. Chinese, Tex mex, and now Mexican. This iteration is the best. Our meals were very good. A harried server apologized for our wait then proceeded to make up for it with excellent service. The tacos are very tasty. They aren't cheap. A 3 taco order can run north of $15. I think it's worth the money. The interior shows the old floor layout. But the new decor is beautiful. Fake greenery hangs from basket lamps placed overhead. It looks like a rain forest. There are not a lot of restaurants that stand out. This one does. The drinks were made wrong. They replaced them, but they were still wrong. They were never fixed. The food took forever. It didn't come out together and when it came out, it was cold and the condiments were expired. The waitress did not come back to check on us. I don't know if they had a manager on duty. Heard about this place when it was in Saint Pete. This is a new location in Palm Harbor. I came in a little before 5 PM and the place was not crowded. There were only two other people here before me. I decided to go with the Nueva sampler which is chips with guacamole with queso and salsa. Here it is. It is bigger than I imagined. All the sauces and sauces are mild. I added the habanero to the salsa to give it more of a bit of kick. The taste of all 3 was not bad. I ordered a Lemon Drop Ducktini. Not bad not bad at all. I might get a second one. I decided to go with the shrimp burrito and I'm going to get a side of the Spanish rice and black beans. Didn't get a picture because I dived right in and devoured it. Just great. Now the only thing of a shortfall was the service. They are slow but nice. I give them 4.5 stars. read more

Wow very impressed with their Mexican food! And their prices seem too good to be true? The queso was delicious and what you would expect from a Mexican place. I got the bowlrito and their barbacoa meat was juicy and flavorful! I also like the aioli it comes with. Sign up for their rewards and you get a free margarita on your first visit!! It's decorated nicely inside too but seems more like a quick service kind of place not fancy restaurant as everything is served in plastic and metal trays. Definitely recommend. read more

It was some of the okayest Mexican we've had. They tried pretty hard with the decor theme throughout, and did well there. We liked the vibe of the place. The server was kind and efficient. We found it odd that they gave us complimentary chips, but no salsa. We had to order that (4$) additionally. That being said, we weren't sure they normally give a basket of chips anyway, which is odd for a Mexican restaurant either way. We had a chicken burrito. It was heavy on the rice, and the chicken, while flavorful, was pretty dry. We ordered a side of queso. It was different than you find in most spots. It was more like a tailgate queso than a Mexican restaurant queso, which is not a bad thing-- just different. All in all, we probably wouldn't go back. There are just too many solid options around here to waste time with anything mediocre. read more

My girls and I came out to Nueva Cantina for Cinco de Mayo. When we arrived, the line was extremely long! It was even hard to make it to the front to check in to our reservation. About 40-45 minutes later, we were seated in the indoor patio. Our server was pleasant and attentive, despite how crazy busy it was. We all ordered tacos and margaritas. I thought my tacos were well seasoned and the first margarita which was mango flavored was okay. The second margarita I had was strawberry flavored and much better! My friend said this place was popping up all over her instagram and we had to try! What a gem! We will be back for sure. The inside is so fresh, inviting, fun and everything was super clean! We came here on a Friday night and it was fairly crowded, but we were able to get seated outside right away. Although it was hot out, the outside patio has a covering it wasn't too bad. The service was pretty quick and our server was super sweet. The decorations inside and outside are really cute and everything seems very clean. We started with chips and salsa, and the chips were nicely crunchy and the salsa had a nice flavor. The tacos are served à la carte, which is nice because you can mix and match. I got a veggie taco and an al pastor taco and both were loaded with fillings and super tasty! I loved that the al pastor taco included a big pineapple spear, it really added to the flavor! 100% this is our new taco spot !! Saw it on yelp decided to try it out you will not be disappointed , It was packed in a good way ! We walked in with reservations and the hostess was already contacting us . We were promptly sat at our table Our servers were prompt with service for somewhere that's been open only a month they have a great team . Tanner was so attentive knowledgeable awesome dude . I would have thought they had been working together for years . Multiple servers checked on us through our dinner . We had the pitcher of margarita maybe we over estimated our 40+ bellies because it was a lot of margarita super adorable presentation lights and ducks gives it a fun flair . Kids had Mexican coke. Guac was flavorful right amount of spice . The Elote was authentic my son loved it ! We got a variety of tacos for the table fish, Barbacoa, pork, carne asada and chorizo Out little one got chicken nuggets and waffle fries . Tacos were double shelled !The fish was Smokey and spicy mahi mahi . The Barbacoa was my favorite my husband absolutely loved the chorizo it was ground up pork . The tacos were packed . No way I could more than two . Kids loved the waffle fries we ended up ordering some after he ate both his carne asada tacos because he tried his sisters . My stepson and I went here for the first time this week based on the mini good reviews that it has and we were very impressed. The food was clean and delicious. We loved the ambience and the service was solid (but not exceptional). The price is a reasonable, but it is very crowded so definitely encourage you to make a reservation in advance. We will be coming back to try more food, but the queso and nachos was definitely worth it. The Beria tacos were over the top too. Would strongly recommend the Mezcal margarita read more

My husband & I had dinner at Nueva Cantina located at 35903 US Hwy 19 N., Palm Harbor. The interior of the restaurant is festive and our server was kind. She "warned" us that the food is true authentic Mexican street food and for whatever reason she said it to us a few times. My husband ordered a burrito, I ordered two fish tacos & one grilled chicken taco, side of black beans for us to share. I'm expecting authentic Mexican food with savory, spicy flavors. Unfortunately that was NOT the case. I took one bite of my grilled chicken taco & it did NOT taste like chicken at all. It was mushy, bland & tasteless like canned chicken. The menu is deceiving because there was zero gilled chicken in my taco. The mahi mahi fish tacos were just as gross tasting, just a funky unappealing look & taste to it. The side of black beans were straight out of a can with a starchy metallic canned after taste and zero flavor! My husband said his burrito was filled with a lot of rice as a filler and flavorless. I'm serious when I say my husband & I were hoping we don't get food poisoning or any digestive disruptions because their food is a 100% insult to authentic Mexican cuisine. The only thing I can think of as to why they are busy is the servers upsell the alcohol & when people are under the influence & hungry they will eat anything. I noticed all their 5 star Google reviews with each review having at least 3-4 colorful bright pictures and that is guaranteed bought & paid for reviews and the owner must be a real master manipulator. The servers uniforms were similar to HOOTERS only all black, they upsell the alcohol, serve cheap quality junk food in exchange for your hard earned money. Awhile back, I gave two Mexican restaurants 5 star reviews, Cantina Viajero in Trinity & Papasitos in Tarpon Springs because they deserved it. Nueva Cantina was a HUGE disappointment, the paper menu was cheap & deceptive, poor cheap quality food, loud TV's everywhere, just a total turn off. Don't be fooled by this place and drink the kool aid, I highly suggest spending your hard earned money elsewhere, even Taco Bell will excite your palate better than this place! :) read more

We used to drive to St Pete to visit Nueva Cantina. So glad it's down the block from my house now!!! We've already been twice since it opened. The birria tacos are really good. We've tried just about everything and have zero complaints. I got the nachos last time and couldn't even finish I was so full. We love the themes that tie to the holidays and seasons. I have been to the Tampa location a few times & always liked their food and appreciated their well crafted drinks. We came and immediately were greeted. We ordered 2 standard margarita, I asked for patron instead of their tequila.... The drinks came 40ish minutes later (well after our apps) and the Patron was brought as a separate shot, which was completely not what I asked for. Mistake, no biggie. Let's talk about the apps. The queso fundido was burnt onto the skillet, unable to dip it, complete flop. We got regular queso... that one went back twice bc the kitchen could no figure out how to melt it, it was like cheese wiz consistency. The waiter apologized profusely and said "I don't under what's going on with this queso" as if it was a foreign concept Our entrees came out right around the time our drinks came out, which was crazy. The food itself was good, we had the Quesabirria & it was tasty. I mean the drinks were good too, just very delayed. I feel bad for the server because he must've been very embarrassed. Overall, it was a terrible experience, maybe I'll chunk it up to being because they're brand new and they're getting themselves together, but I'm not sure if it's gonna be a repeat visit for us . read more

We decided to try this recently social media hyped place and see what the buzz was all about: we are still waiting. The place was Ok. The food was OK. That's it. No more than that. I ordered 2 asada tacos and 2 birria tacos. The asada steak was bland. It was tender enough but had no seasoning or marinade or flavor. The birria tacos were better but not outstanding. But here is an odd thing. They charge you $3 for the consommé. What ? That's should be standard for birria tacos. They charge you $4 for chips and salsa. Also complimentary is standard for MOST Mexican restaurants. Bottom line: Been there, done that and no interest in coming back when there are so many other choices. read more

What a great experience. First I want to say MORGAN, MORGAN, MORGAN!!!! She was a great server. We live near 2 Mexican restaurants which are great. This place is an added experience. I first suggest reservation ahead of time if you prefer a booth over a table. Also, a party of 2 or more order the pitcher over per glass if you get more than 1 drink each. NOW. Morgan our server was ON IT!!! she made sure we were happy with the food, that we received the food we wanted etc. she had eyes on us if something seemed out of source. I am coming back for my bday (64) I am bringing my family (12 ppl) to come and also have this wonder experience. B/c that is an experience. OH! Food and drinks were great. ENJOY!!! read more
