I went to Screaming Jalapeño on a Sunday and the bar side was packed with people watching the game. There was even a TV outside on the side walk. We sat on the restaurant side and waited forever for someone to take our food order. The food was mediocre and tacos were room temp and watery. Their street tacos are super tiny. Yummm their food is really good! Got the house margarita for $8 which didn't disappoint, the queso was a little spicy but delish, the salsa was amazing and sweet and the chips are homemade and thicker than normal. I love the chicken taco called straight out of the harbor! Was a little crazy at the bar on a Friday night and they also serve the tables nearby so bartenders be busy. A very mid place to eat. Beans are not homemade I saw them opening up canned beans at the counter. No fresh salsa. They had a very mild pico de gallo available. Overall it was okay. Everything tastes unusually sweet -- as if sugar is added to nearly every dish. With a name that suggests bold, spicy Tex-Mex flavors, the menu falls far short. * Chips and salsa: $8.50 for what look like basic store-bought chips and a salsa with no spice or real flavor. * Chorizo: Very odd texture with chunks of onion and an unexpected sweetness. It doesn't resemble traditional chorizo in taste or seasoning. * Cilantro rice and black beans: Completely bland and lacking any identifiable flavor. * Carnitas: The only item that isn't sweet, but still flavorless. It seems like the meat sits in water until serving. Overall, the food lacks authenticity, seasoning, and balance. Leaning towards a 3.5 rating, but Yelp currently doesn't have the option for a half star rating. I stopped in for a late lunch with a friend around 2:30 on a Sunday and it was quite busy; we got the last available indoor table at the time. It seems like this is a place to get a drink with a good group of friends and where it's easy to find a favorite bartender. A lot of the patrons were chatting it up with different staff members and everyone was having a great time! But food wasn't anything too impressive. The nachos were good but not enough of chips to toppings ratio, while the tacos were hit or miss. Some were tasty but others felt like they were missing something. I did the BYO tacos with the carnitas, and they weren't bad, but I can definitely get better flavors elsewhere in the area. My friend got the filet tacos and the local tacos. She preferred the local, but also felt that we've had more flavorful ones elsewhere. We also had the unfortunate experience of our waitress straight up forgetting about us being in her section, which she was super apologetic about once she realized, but it took over 30 minutes and 3 attempts to flag her down just to order our tacos. If I could do a 3.5 I would but it doesn't deserve a 3 so I'm rounding up. Honestly it just wasn't what I was expecting, it was definitely more of a quick service/fast casual dining spot rather than full on dining experience. That said, the appeal and food quality is there! We had an order of guac, and agreed the portion was solid for the price and we didn't feel like we had too many chips or too little chips for the size of the app. It wasn't massive but it wasn't too small. Solid start for an app but the guac wasn't anything special either. It was great, but not necessarily memorable. The house margaritas was good, they use a different salt, I'm unsure what it was but I'd definitely go back for a happy hour or order one again. Tacos: the bread and butter of the joint were good. I had 3 tacos: the screaming jalapeño (shredded beef), straight out of the harbor (chicken), el toro (filet mignon). I ordered the chicken on a hard shell and the other two were on a soft, flour tortilla. None of them had any issues. Flavor was good and portion size was good for 3 tacos plus our app. They just weren't "stand out " items. Our service was fabulous and the place had a sports bar vibe to it. If you're into soccer posting up at the bar here would be a great idea. Worth checking out when you're looking for a quick meal. read more

I love tacos, and I loved these tacos! Came here for dinner on a third Friday night, and had an El Toro, a Straight Out of the Harbor, and the Locals Only. You can get them on a soft flower tortilla, soft corn, tortilla, or crunchy. I had mine crunchy with a blue moon on the side, and they seemed to be a tad bit larger than either soft option. They were all delicious, with lots of meat and flavor. The El Toro was definitely my favorite. The staff was very friendly and attentive, even with the busy crowds on a Friday night. read more

Food, drinks, Service, Ambiance, attitude of waitstaff, all could use serious & significant improvement. We were not the only customers that were treated that way (like we were an imposition and burden for them to even smile or introduce themselves) The margaritas were probably the worst tasting drinks i've been served in some time. The floors were being swept & mopped under & around people about an hour before closing. For a restaurant on a Saturday night in as exclusive & high traffic as a location in "the Harbor" can provide, they were neither appreciative of the opportunity for Saturday night tips or for creating a welcoming atmosphere that might warrant a decent review on any of the various social media platforms. If "survival of the fittest" still rules in the restaurant business, these guys are soon to be extinct from this location. Adios amigos!!! We really never should have stayed or sat down at all after the initial "greeting" on the sidewalk - but were hellbent on trying the place because it got "good reviews." Hells yeah. After getting in our 10k steps, we decided to rewards ourselves with some tacos and margs. We've been on the hunt for both and this place did not disappoint. We came mid-Sunday so no need to wait although we headed straight for the bar anyways where we were greeted immediately by a bartender who was super cheerful. The atmosphere is cute and inviting with a few tvs over the bar. A few sugar skulls motifs here and there.... I ordered a margarita - my "go to" drink and it was perfect. I don't have too many margs to compare it to yet however since we are new to the area but of the ones I have had so far, this one was perfect. I shouldn't have ordered 2 since the first one was strong! So much for my 10k steps.... We did order food although I am writing this review a few weeks after the fact and I don't recall the exact items we ordered but the food was really good. It comes semi-close to authentic. We liked it so much that we decided we can't do our Sunday walks in Safety Harbor because we would make a habit of coming to this place after the walk. We will definitely return on a non-walk day. After seeing many posted photos of delicious looking food recently by The Screaming Jalapeño on F/B, we finally caved in and made the hour trek to cozy Safety Harbor, a quaint lil town that feels like Mayberry RFD with Sherrif Andy Griffith & Deputy Barney Fife somewhere in the background. The post had shown the "Weekend Special" for seafood enchiladas with crab, shrimp & lobster and looked so good we both decided we had to try. With outside seating available along the sidewalk of Main Street or server Micayla promptly & pleasantly greeted and welcomed us while delivering the days "Specials". We already knew exactly what we were ordering from a F/B photo posted earlier that day! We started with Cold Draft Beer and soon our lunch was served, was an excellent presentation and at first bite we instantly knew we had made the right choice. The enchiladas were stuffed full of seafood and there were notably large pieces of Lobster, Crab & Shrimp with a delicious cream sauce drizzled over them topped with Pico. The refried beans & yellow rice were just right, hot & tasty! Before leaving we went inside to look around and found the colorful bar quite inviting and noticed a massive hot sauce selection and more friendly staff. Chéf Jimmy certainly expressed his love for food in our lunch entrees and we will definitely want to return when were in the area. Safety Harbor on Main Street is a beautiful area and The Screaming Jalapeño is a great place to "PitStop" for some Mexican themed faré. read more

We bring our boat over to Safety Harbor at least twice a month and this is our go to for tacos. Aimee is an awesome bartender. They recently added more items to menu too. My hubby always gets 2 El Jefe tacos then usually gets 2 more after that. The service is pretty quick. I get the straight out of the Harbour tacos (served al la carte). They have platters now too. We Love that they have all hot sauces to choose from as well. Mickels hot sauce is so good and made in Oldsmar. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the bar is good size. They also have a good draft beer selection that rotates. We get excited when they have Kona Big Wave. Hope this helps! read more

The restaurant was clean and parking wasn't too bad. Sadly the food just wasn't very good. And I'm not picky. I am cool with Taco Bell and Chipotle. Excellent local Mexican in my opinion is Red Mesa ... We started with queso and salsa. The salsa was very vinegary and the queso was so liquified and thin it was nearly impossible to dip the chips into it. My friend ordered chicken and beef tacos. Nothing special was his overall opinion. I ordered jalapeño mac and cheese with ground beef. I swear it smelled like someone stuffed a cigarette inside the pasta. I chose the Bro Bowl loaded with beans and veggies. The Nacho Mama seemed to delight all. I passed on it, atoning for diet disasters during a recent 3 day conference. I was however persuaded to "try one bite", which I did - just one. It was excellent and the fresh jalapeños gave it a great kick. The Main Street tacos were greatly enjoyed. My Bro Bowl was delightful, tasty and a good mix of beans and veggies. The Filet Colorado dishes not so much. Possibly because the Filet tips were a bit bland or maybe they just filled up with the Nachos. However, the big distraction was the dining implements. We were there several times before and had great service good drinks, and good food. Last night Saturday was bad. The margarita was fine. THe tiny tacos were fine too. The service was bad. THe bartender was doing shots with someone at the bar.. Our server was doing shots as well and overcharged us for our drink. The menu said 12 dollars for a margarita and you pick the tequila our bill said 17.50 and when we asked him about it he said that there is an upcharge for the margarita and how it wasnt worth arguing about it and took it off our tab. when i asked who the manager was that was there he said HE was, REALLY? Their pricing is ridiculous it says one thing and your bill says another. we felt ripped off. The staff usually makes or breaks a place and this place needs management. bad. Great food! Really nice pork and chicken - generous portions in the taco and very juicy/flavorful. My husband and I stayed nearby and came back twice. Monday house margarita deal for $5 and also a great serving size. The service isn't amazing from the waitresses and the seating isn't great so that's why 4 instead of 5. Came in because I heard they were offering lobster Mac and cheese this weekend. The sauce was delicious! However, pretty stingy with the portion of macaroni and amount of lobster. Expected the price $20 but at least give me some lobster! Ordered the shrimp street taco. I guess that means mini but only $3 each two bites but I guess that's $3 worth. Only problem shrimp translucent in color so not cooked. No desire to eat raw shrimp. Switched it out for the pork ones. Dry but if you go just order some of that queso sauce on the side and it would probably be the bomb. Not really my cup of tea but to each their own. read more

So after walking down the street we stopped here on the way back for something to eat. Ok please note this ain't Mexican food it is a step up from Taco Bell and not as good as a Tijuana Flats. Truly wished I could get Chili Relleno but settled for a burrito instead it was not good. The drinks were fair as well I had a strawberry margarita it lacked any alcohol as well. We were with another couple the check was reasonable but than again I left hungry and totally not satisfied. Cute decor it's like a one hit wonder. Lol. Not what we were looking for. We wanted traditional Mexican food, which this isn't. If all you are looking for are street tacos you will likely be satisfied or better. They only gave me two taco shells with my dish and I had to ask for more which cost me another dollar for two shells. I really hate it when restaurants nickel and dime me like this. At $14 it isn't like my entrée was cheep to begin with. Also found parking in this area to be very difficult. I was driving my full size pickup that day and had to drive over the curb with one wheel on the sidewalk so the back end wouldn't hang half way into the traffic llane. I'm sure I won't be going back to down town Safety Harbor any time soon. However, there are a number of reasons this restaurant deserve more than one star. They offer a large verity of hot sauces, many of which I had not Sean before and found very good. The ingredients used in our dishes were fresh.
