Love Nugget Market so much. It's my favorite grocery store. I wish they had more locations! Nugget has the best qualities of Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Trader Joe's, all wrapped into one. The selection is unbeatable, and the staff are friendly and fun. The best feature (in my opinion) is the cheese counter, where an expert can consult you on your cheese choices. It's basically like having a small artisan cheese store inside the grocery store. Amazing! The bakery and deli products are high-quality, and never disappoint. They offer a wide selection of fresh produce and meats. Nugget is the only grocery store that always has everything on my grocery list, no matter how specific or random. The home and gifts section in the back is a gem, and it's hard to walk away without an impulse buy. In short, Nugget leaves nothing else to be desired, because it has it all. I shop here for high quality seafood, meat (beef, chicken, their in house made sausages), organic produce and deli items. Outside of the Famers Market, you won't find better quality at any of the other local grocery stores. They also have a very good catering menu. This is the best grocery in town. It's a big store by Davis standards. Nugget is clean and well organized, it has a wide variety of products and the food is generally top quality. Highlights are the bakery and deli, the cheese, ale and wine selections and the big produce department. Nugget is a very attractive store inside and out. I live in North Davis and can choose between three nearby grocery stores: East Davis Nugget, North Davis Safeway and Save Mart. I do most of my grocery shopping at Safeway and make a trip to Nugget once a month or so. I'll come in to purchase a few favorite items that I can't get at Safeway, like California Olive Ranch Olive Oil. It costs more to shop at Nugget. Safeway delivers similar quality at lower cost most of the time, so that's where I shop most of the time. However, I do enjoy my occasional expeditions to Nugget. read more

This place is sweet! I'm traveling for work but wanted to get some cheap decent food and was feeling picky about what. Went here after reading the reviews and not only did a get a nice cup of b-sprouts and some lasagna, but also grabbed a chilled 22oz of Lagunitas Maximus IPA. MMMMMmmmm, great atmosphere. One more star if the store could keep the frumpy middle aged women with their kids out of the beer isle and let me get through in peace. read more

I don't like this one as much as the one in Woodland, or the one on Mace. I think it's because it just feels TOO big. The coffee, deli and bakery is great, as always, but it doesn't feel as, I don't know, homey as the other two I'd mentioned. It's still a wonderful store, all the Nuggets are. They're all impeccably clean and the staff is really friendly, I just think this one is too big, I sometimes get minor panic attacks when I go to this one, but it's not their fault. read more

One word: BEST SANDWICHES EVER. Ok, maybe that was three words. You can either get something right off the menu, which are great. Nonetheless, why should you settle for less than what you really want? You can make your own, for a very cheap price ($5.99 I think). That includes choice of cheese, meat/poultry, vegggies, condiments, and bread. I haven't been there since becoming a pescatararian and finding out I was lactose intolerant, but my mouth waters every time I think about it. This is not on the menu, but I created it, and ordered it every time!: grilled chicken on ciabatta bread, with Bree cheese. I asked them to warm it together in the griller before adding both chipotle and basil mayo. I asked them to put cucumbers, spinach, mixed greens, and peppercini. Best ever! One of the best locations Nugget has. Came in here for the first time many weeks ago passing thru town. Staff in the bakery/deli area were very friendly and genuine. I really appreciated that. Store is very clean and neat. As always prices are high at any Nugget location but I certainly appreciate the variety of items sold here and most are worth a little extra scratch. Love their soups, especially chicken tortilla. So good. Again, pricey but worth it once in a while. The bakery items are pretty awesome. Haven't had anything I didn't like. Love they carry Boar's Head meat - my favorite. Overall, love love love this location. read more

They are the pricy, almost as pricey as the coho. But they have amazing service and people working there all the time. I love all the bakery items, the fresh fruit smoothies, and the sandwiches. They have bomb pot pies, and it's really good if you get them on a day where's they're all hot, not inside that cold window. Chicken Pot Pie, or Rosemary Grilled Flank Steak, and some fresh smoothies usually makes my day there. read more

YAYA for their Sandwiches, I swear my friends sandwich was like a pound... I mean the sandwich makers seemed a bit lost and slow but it still came out well. They also have a nice deli section and nice outdoor seating (when its not over 100 degrees). The Nugget is a great place for grocery shopping with the family. Everyone is super nice and polite and the staff is a definite 5 star!! I love coming here to search out local fresh produce. However, the prices may be a bit damaging on your wallet compared to safeway or lucky's. However, their baked goods, sandwiches and coffee are above amazing. I just recently went there for lunch with the boyfriend at the make-your-own-sandwich station and the ingredients are soooo fresh. We ordered the turkey on ciabatta bread with mozzarella and everything on it! QUICK TIP: be sure to get your meat warmed because it takes X100 better than room temperature. I also ordered the pastrami on ciabatta but make sure the sandwich maker warms up your meat separately from the vegetables. I thought it was a little weird that he put the veggies in the sandwich and then microwaved it so that most of the veggies became soggy soon after. Also, I personally love their "panini maker" which toasts the outside of the bread so that the cheese becomes melty!!! These sandwiches beat the foot longs at subway any day! The Nugget has a better variety of breads, meats and sides for your sandwich that make you feel a ton healthier! I would say the Nugget gives the BEST supermarket customer service in Davis (or anywhere else I've been to) I've been coming here for a couple years now since I came to Davis for school. Like most college students, I did my usual grocery shopping at Safeway... but then I started nannying for a family in Davis and discovered this wondrous market of groceries. The store is ALWAYS neat and clean. It's also well-lit and makes the whole place look classier and ,overall, better than Safeway or SaveMart. Yes, they're a bit pricier than the other stores, but if you shop to weekly sales of produce or meats, you're actually paying the same price, (or even less!) for FRESHER groceries. Their bakery and deli also provides samples daily around lunch time! Different items each day from breads and cakes to meats and guacamole (yum!). Their sandwiches are DELICIOUS and all their ingredients are always suuuper fresh! I personally always shop here for their weekly produce sales. I love my fresh fruits and veggies, so I've gotten to know the produce staff pretty well. There are days when come to the Nugget up to 3 times a day (for the family I work for & myself). The produce guys are very helpful, friendly and funny! They always help me pick out the freshest fruits and veggies and go out of their way to cut it up for me! They're the besssttt! If I were to write a top 10 list of things I miss since moving from Davis, Sam's schwarma and Nugget's sandwiches would have to share the number 1 spot. God, I miss the lamb sandwich with kalamata mayo and goat cheese...drool. This place can do no wrong. They carry the freshest produce (farmer's market notwithstanding) and their ready-to-cook fare is incredible. This place is hands down one of my favorite supermarkets. Yes they tend to be on the pricer side but with their weekly specials it really isnt too bad. I went in there today looking for Moscato d Asti in the wine section and there was an employee helping me out by telling me all the different types of Moscato, what he recommends and what is the different between bubbly Moscato, normal Moscato and Moscato d Asti. This nugget has always had great customer service. Another time I went in and wanted Cheddar Jalapeno focaccia and they ran out and were making more so I waited. Within about 20 minutes I got a hot warm grooey piece of Cheddar Jalapeno focaccia which was amazing. But now nugget has ruined me because I will no longer settle for a piece of Cheddar Jalapeno focaccia that didn't come right out of the oven. read more

This Nugget Market is great! They have a variety of greens, meats, deli choices, baby foods, etc.! Their store set up is great, you would walk in straight to the veggie aisle which is totally convenient. Really gives you the urge to eat healthy. Then you walk into the meat section and if you take a look around; everything is very neatly stacked, freshly showcased, meats look juicy, fruits look plump, everything is at it's finest here. The coffee bar makes a wide range of fruit drinks and cafeinated drinks. Right next to the coffee bar is cakes, cupcakes, cookies. They hand out free samples if you like to try something. The staff couldn't be any nicer. They all walk around with a smile and they are all so willing to help! It's amazing how nice these employees are, just brightens up your day. They walk you to your car to unload if you can't manage it yourself, they'll lead you to a product if you need help finding it, they'll even sit and chit chat for a bit if you stur up a conversation! Parking here is great, It's a huge parking lot with slots always open. Even in the busiest times of the year parking is scarce but still doable. It's not a place where you have to fight for parking and/or wait 10 mins for one. Seating outside with sun umbrellas to enjoy the fresh air and sunny weather. People here are generally nice so you don't have to worry about loud people yelling or weird people walking by. The downside of The Nugget Market is it's a bit on the pricey side compared to Savemart or Safeway. You really get what you pay for here, the staff, fresh meats and veggies, delicious deli food. When I enlisted for Yelp, I vowed that I would never write reviews for grocery stores, gas stations, etc. The reason being that I did not want to accumulate empty stats on my way to elite status and ambassador status. If I am going to carry yelp on my back, I will do so on my terms or not at all. A man is only a man when they follow their convictions. I mean, what can you write about a gas station other than maybe taking a star off for a defective nozzle. I have seen some people deduct stars for a gas station located in a sketchy neighborhood which I believe is an outrage. Pardon the owner for not having the funds to buy a plot of land in the Seacliff district in San Francisco. I digress though. The Nugget is not just a grocery chain. Since when are you able to walk in and have all employees stand at attention and give you a friendly wave, sometimes a salute if you are lucky. They act friendlier than my neighbors. Nothing warms my heart more than an authentic smile and politeness as money exchanges hands. I mean, as I give up greenbacks, that hurts enough already. I am fortunate to have never encountered a hungover, "i hate your guts" type of cashier. Either that or they hide it very well and Nugget trains them in the protocols of ruse and disguise. If so...bravo. 5 stars go out to the deli. It is very commonplace for it to have a long line, but once you make it to the counter, you are greeted by jovial sandwich makers. Since I often forget my spectacles, I often have to squint at the menu for an extended period of time, deciphering the ingredients in the sandwiches. They are patient as they are kind, never strumming their fingers to some radio friendly tune against the glass or rolling their eyes to the high heavens. They are always accommodating with modifications in your sandwich. The smoked salmon is my favorite with extra mayo. The ingredients are very fresh. Try this: 1. ciabatta bread 2. dill mayo on 1/2 3. regular mayo on other 1/2 4. smoked salmon 5. lettuce/tomatoes 6. bacon to top if off It is most savory. Is it sad that Nugget is one of the things I miss most about Davis? I agree that the sandwich prices have risen a lot over the years, but there's still no place I'd rather shop! Nugget has many fun goodies, including the addition of an awesome salad bar...so many topping to choose from & FRESH! I also love to buy the marinated meats & fish (including the stuffed salmon). A good variety of food options and great customer service especially with such a big store

You may want to avoid this store if you are physically challenged. There e only 2 handicap spaces near the entry. Nobody monitors these spaces & they are frequently unavailable because cars with no handicap plates & no handicap hang tag are parked there. When I approached the manager I was told he was unaware of any problem. Exactly my point. Nobody pays any attention to whether the cars parked in those spaces are legal or not. I am sure that most people don't say anything. I have encountered this many times but today was the first time I said anything. Both spaces had illegally parked cars in them. It so happened that as I was waiting for one of the spaces as a car pulled out of it a lady swooped in from the other side of the space. As she got out of her car she flashed me a victory sign. This was capped off at the checkout where my 2 bags of groceries were packed so that 1 bag was so heavy I couldn't lift it out of my cart & into the car without help & the other bag weighed nothing. read more

Nugget is the place to go if you are hungry for a quick meal, looking for a snack, or cooking an elaborate dinner. There are too many things I like about Nugget, so I will just highlight a few. 1. Sandwiches - There are so many options with different meats, breads, spreads, and cheeses that it puts places like Subway and Quizno's to shame. My favorite sandwich is roast beef on focaccia, with basil aioli on one side and chipotle mayo on the other, pepperjack cheese, and all the vegetables. When toasted and grilled, this is one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. 2. Produce - Nothing is fresher in Davis, and for those who claim that you cannot taste the difference, believe me, you can. 3. Drink Aisle - This is a fun aisle that I always wander to after ordering my sandwich. There are novelty drinks like Leninade that just put a smile on your face. 4. Lived real close to nugget for a year, this place is just the best. You have to try their sandwiches, they are literally, no exaggeration, the best sandwiches money can buy. I love love love the Nug. I could live off of Nugget sandos every day of my life. So many options, and a panini press which is clutch. I highly recommend a proscuitto, avo, arugula on ciabatta toasted perfectly under the panini grill. Pepper turkey comes in at a close second. But damn the dessert counter! I seem to never be able to leave that place without getting something in there--usually the brownie which I recommend splitting with someone because you will definitley eat the whole thing its so good. I wouldn't grocery shop anywhere else in Davis either--not too expensy--and they have pretty much all the gourmet stuff I need. Plus I love their fish counter (and the hot guy who works there). How I miss living in Davis because of Nugget! It is the best supermarket I have ever been to... this location was way better than the other one in Davis. They also had a wonderful deli and bakery! Their sandwiches were SOOOO good. The foccacia bread was so fresh and tasty. Their bakery was also filled with the yummiest treats! Their chocolate chip cookies were always so fresh and so yummy.
