After a long day of hiking around Gatlinburg we were craving Chinese food. The Chinese food where I am from is very good in the Milwaukee/Chicago area. We ordered Mongolian beef and moo shue chicken. Pros : Cost for buffet is well priced food is decent and selection isn't bad Cons : Customer Service especially the gentleman that is always working the front register is poor. He doesn't greet you and doesn't thank you when you pay your bill. For me being in the customer service industry that to me is a huge factor when reviewing an establishment. They offer the standard Chinese dishes and Chef specials at reasonable prices, most items under $10. 34 Luncheon Specials (11AM-3PM) served with pork fried rice ($4.95-$5.25) and 25 Dinner Specials with fried rice & pork egg roll ($6.65-$6.99, add $1 for pork fried rice) are offered. They also offer a 40+ item all day Chinese buffet featuring the popular Chinese dishes/items, soups, salad, shrimp cocktail, cold mussels, fruits, jello, and hard ice cream for $5.99 plus tax (in 2013), $6.29 plus tax (in 2015). Buffet to go is $3.99/lb. Crab legs can be added for additional charge. I was actually here twice in less than 24 hours. Initially, I was potentially going to stop here for the Dinner Chinese Buffet, but it was after 9PM and the place closes at 10PM. I walked inside anyways and looked at the 40+ items on the buffet and the food looked like it had been sitting out a while, dried out, and some item trays empty. It would not be fair to rate the food at this time and I decided to pass and return here for the Lunch Chinese Buffet the next day. If some of your lucky numbers on your fortune match the numbers on the wall, you could receive discounts (match 2 numbers-$1 off buffet/match 3 numbers-50% off buffet) or free buffet (match 4 numbers). Total bill with tax before tip was $6.57, which is a fair price for a standard and fresh (during lunch) Chinese buffet. We came here as we were in town for a family vacation and the prices were cheap enough for a family of five. My kids are picky eaters so a buffet is our natural choice so they can choose whatever they see. The restaurant had a range of meats, from pork to chicken to beef to fish. I didn't see any other seafood. Maybe there were shellfish at the salad bar but I didn't take a look. There was also sushi of which I had none. Vegetable selections were good and tasty. I just returned from No.1 Chinese with one of the worst experiences I've ever had anywhere. Let me start by saying that until tonight, there was only one time in my 30yrs on this earth that I have sent food back(first time was Red Lobster more than 5 yrs ago). Also, I have eaten at No.1 a handful of times over the years, and in all fairness I have no complaints about any other visit I have had. I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki off of the dinner menu this evening. When my meal came I could tell on my first bite that something was not right. My girlfriend tried it as well and instantly knew that there was something wrong with it. After eating two small pieces of chicken, and chewing on a couple more for "a while" my girlfriend convinced me it was in my best interest to not go any further. Well I lost my appetite at that point. The server was very nice about it and offered to replace it with something else, but like I said at this point I just don't have an appetite anymore so I nicely declined. I proceed to the register to pay for the meal (tea and egg drop for her, pepsi, wonton and the chicken terriyaki for me). As usual, the cashier asked if everything was alright which I answered with a hesitant "ehh not really, we actually had to send it back". She asked if we had eaten there before, which I informed her that yes I have on multiple occasions. She asked us this question probably 4-5 times, with us giving the same answer over and over, "yes". Then she made a comment (also 3+ times) about how it's a sweet brown sauce or something along those lines which we responded that the sauce was not the issue, it was the chicken. When she finally accepted our response that the chicken was the issue she followed up with "we very busy all day, chicken fine"! Let me mention that neither me or my girlfriend were acting hostile or raising our voice or anything of that nature. My girlfriend serves and we both know that sometimes things just don't come out correct. We are both smiling and speaking to her respectfully until the "we very busy all day, chicken fine" comment. At this point I replied to her "look, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you over this.... you asked me if everything was alright and my answer is NO"! I truly can't recall being so frustrated with someone at the end of a meal. The fact she wants to argue over the food quality just blew me away... I had to repeat "yes we have eaten here before" 4+ times. "The sauce isn't the issue" had to be repeated probably 4 times as well.... Never once, "oh I'm sorry you didn't like it" or any type of "sorry/ I apologize" for that matter... She wants to sit there and argue over whether the food was "alright" or not. We never said that we didn't want to pay for it or anything of that nature, although one would expect them to not charge you for a meal you took 2-3 bites of.... Well she ended up charging us full price on everything... Needless to say I won't ever be bringing my business back to this restaurant. "Chinatown" at the forks on the river is a quality restaurant with friendly staff and good food. read more

Did you ever have the feeling that you are somewhere you shouldn't be while dining? We were tired and looking for a good Chinese buffet. We settled on this place because the other one didn't have one car on the lot which can be a scary thing. The buffet was extremely limited to about a dozen things on the main line and it was all variants of chicken. There was no shrimp, pork or anything other than chicken. I tried their sushi as they had a volcano roll. The problem was the volcano roll had turned to stone and was inedible. The rest of it was barely better. If you are looking for chinese good luck. PLease don't stop here. You will feel like you are in a funeral home and you did something wrong while sitting there eating. Such a depressing place with bad food. read more

We read the reviews online and they weren't too promising but we decided to try it out. The only good thing there was the chicken wings. Would give them no stars if we could. Very bad customer service. We called with an order over $25. On their menu on their site it has a coupon for free crab Rangoon for any order over $20. Call to place our order and she says I to only applies to pick up. It doesn't say that anywhere on the coupon but they still wouldn't honor it. Also when we wen to to pay they wanted to charge us $1 to use a credit card. This is a business and if they accept credit cards they have a fee with that. It shouldn't be passed on to the customer. This is the only place in town that offers the peanut butter type sauce(peanut chicken). the vegetable fried rice is great. for the buffet, it is better to go early in day when food is fresh. I didn't like any of the soups. they do offer a discount card, after so many meals you can eat free-however, that does not apply to take out orders which makes no sense. I spend much more on take out than I do on the buffet. They do however add free crab rangoon with minimum purchase on to go orders. They use to deliver on minimum order, but they no longer do that. That would be great if they would start that again, nothing but pizza delivers in this area. read more
