I received a call from my landlady while out of town last week, stating that she wanted to enter in my apartment unit because there was some "water issues" with the unit above me. Needless to say, this freaked me out a bit. I am highly allergic to mold and I have other respiratory problems, so any type of moisture in my unit would be very, very bad news for my health. Naturally, I found Nv Environmental on Yelp and with the great reviews, I gave Ian a call early this AM. I was impressed by by many aspects of his service including (not in any particular order): *I was able to make a same day appointment and Ian showed up early *He was professionally dressed *His inspection for mold in my apartment was very thorough - including looking under the sinks, in closets, etc. *Ian took the time to explain what he was doing; he answered all my questions and gave me an easy to understand, no nonsense summary of my apartment's situation *Given my situation, he could have easily up-sold me on further testing such as pricey air sampling (which I may or may not need in the future), but instead he recommended a few other do-it-myself solutions to try to resolve the problem *He didn't freak out when I asked him to take off his shoes when entering my apartment (I have carpet and I don't allow shoes to track dirt/dust/yuckies inside). In fact he was very courteous and understanding. Many other people such as the cable guy and even my landlord fuss at me when I ask them this favor *He kindly answered my stupid questions about what is normal amount of mold in my shower. Highly recommended! I am the building manager and called Nv on behalf of the building owner to respond to and investigate a tenant concern. I initially emailed Nv through their website to book an appointment and got a phone call before I was able to call them (that's a good thing!). Ian came and did a thorough inspection and diagnosis. He's pretty quick, but thorough catching plenty of things we would never have noticed. He was pretty blunt about what he thought was made poorly, as well as what things were not a big deal... We had just moved into a new apartment and everything was great. Then a pipe broke in the unit above us. My landlord had taken some measures to clean up and dry out the place, but because there was so much water I was skeptical about whether those measures would be sufficient. I called Ian in the morning and he was able to make it out the same day. He even arrived just a little bit early, and waited for me out front. Ian reflexively knew that what the landlord had done would not be sufficient. He took moisture measurements EVERYWHERE, and thoroughly documented every reading with a photograph. He was friendly and professional, and highly knowledgeable, not just about industrial hygiene, but also giving me some practical advice about resources should my landlord not comply with his recommendations. He had the report done in a couple of days. It was of the highest quality: clear, organized, detailed, and specific. It identified problem areas and also gave recommendations on exactly what ought to be done to protect me and my family from potential future mold growth. The same day I passed the report on to my landlord, she responded by saying that she was having more work done on my unit to better dry out the walls and ceiling. very professional and thorough environmental inspectors. builder in my condo refused to check my storage for mold, when i was pretty certain there was mold in there due to moisture and lack of ventilation. nv came out, inspected the room, tested the air, and explained everything to me throughly. they also helped poke a hole in the ceiling of my living room where there had been a leak, and tested an air sample there too without tearing apart my ceiling. conclusion was mold in storage, no mold in living room. read more

Made an account to write a review for Nv Environmental. This guy's pretty legit. Found some mold on my walls after removing furniture placed right up against said wall. Ian came over and gave me all the details about the situation, including how to get rid of it and how to prevent it. Although I asked him to only inspect one room on the phone, he took some of his time to look at the rest of the house and gave me caution signs of potential risks. His reports after inspection were concise and an easy read. Would totally recommend this guy if anyone needs an inspection. read more

After coming home and discovering mold, I called this comany based on the other reviews I saw on Yelp. Despite the fact that I called after 8PM, I still got an appointment for the next day. Ian came out and spent as much time as I wanted answering my questions and giving me guidance on addressing the issue with my building's management. I received my detailed report from him the next day. The whole process from finding him on Yelp to receiving the report took just over 36 hours! I would highly reccomend this company to anyone having to deal with mold or other enviornmental issues. Ian Shapiro has anger issues, yells at customers, talks over them and has zero empathy. His employee performed an inspection that was not thorough and we later found a wall full of mold and he wanted to squeeze every penny out of us instead of trying to resolve the issue and work with us. When I told him there were people who offer samples at half the price that he charges he told me to go hire them and then he instructed his employee to leave our home without completing the job, or helping us in any way. Do not go with this vendor despite what you hear. Incredibly unprofessional and overcharges. He also sends a trainee and charges for an expert - he never once visited our home despite a website that is full of his credentials. You won't get an expert if you go here, but you might encounter a really rude business owner. Realtors, go elsewhere if you want your inspections trouble free. I'll make sure mine does in the future and wish we had never were referred to them in the first place. read more

I suspected mold in the home that I am renting, and got on yelp to find some reputable help. I found NV Environmental, and I called them to come to my house, because of all the 5-stars and positive reviews on yelp. Here is my experience with NV Environmental: I first called them last week, and John answered the phone. John was very nice, and he throughly explained what his company does, in a way that was easy to understand. He then sent Ian Shapiro out to our house. Ian came very quickly....the next day, if my memory is correct. My husband dealt with Ian, and said Ian was extremely friendly and also explained things well. Ian did the inspection and took samples. Ian then dealt with our property manager, who is not easy to deal with, but Ian handled it! Ian also sent me a VERY detailed report, itemizing the findings of the inspection, complete with pictures, and recommendations on how to deal with the issue that was upon us. Overall, the experience with Ian and this company was very positive, very pleasant, very thorough, and everything was done in a timely manner. When I was researching companies to use, Nv Environmental's website noted that they provide an inspection without alarm, and that really was true. Ian was so professional yet did not create any hype or panic when describing what work I needed to have done. It was so nice to have his expertise, and after we had the mold remediation work done from one of his awesome recommended companies, he and that company worked together to schedule the testing and containment removal. I wasn't happy about our home's prior owners' handling of inadequately sealing ("abandoning") a pipe which was what caused the slow leak and mold, but I WAS really pleased with being able to get the situation analyzed and solved without much stress and without spending a fortune. It's hard to put in to words how grateful I am to Nv Environmental. After 2 years of health issues and a landlord that literally did not care I discovered mold in several areas of my home I was distraught, discouraged and not feeling well due to over 3 years of mold exposure without my knowledge. I had called a "mold specialist" who came out and confirmed there was mold but he did limited testing and gave a very short "report" with no photos attached and it did nothing to help my case with my landlord who admitted he knew the mold was there but clearly stated he will do nothing about it. I called Nv and literally on my FIRST CALL the person was insanely informative, talked to me for a good 20 minutes and he LISTENED to the details of my situation and immediately had Ian email me. FINALLY SOMEONE ACTUALLY CARED!!! I initially was concerned about spending money on a 2nd inspection but Ian and the staff answered and emailed me with a plethora of info and never once pressured me about a payment for all their free advice thru emails and phone calls. I just felt so Blessed by their generosity of info and authentic care for my health and i ended up finding the resources for the inspection which was SO affordable for what I received!!! I was on a time deadline since I had to move out immediately on doctors orders and I needed proof of what was really happening to show my landlord. Ian did a rush on the report and it was so detailed not only on the mold and air quality but pointed out several issues in my home that were unsafe. He was professional and the verbage was easily understood by me and my lawyer who was representing me to stop the landlord from renting out my home to someone else without doing any remediation. Ian company is one of those mold companies that we are all warned about. Ian did an inspection of my house, and he found some mold. I asked him for an approximate price for the mold, and he said it was minimal and would get back to me. He never did, my realtor negotiated with the seller for $500.00. Ian gave me the name of 3 companies to perform the work and only one supplied a quote. The company came in at about $1800.00, and I scheduled the work a month in advance. I asked what the worked entailed, and they said that I had to move out of my house. They told me that the work would take two days. Ian e-mailed me the night before the work was to be done on a Sunday, and told me that his cost was $500 in addition to the $1800.00. Then he sent me another e-mail stating if I wanted the report to be completed a the next day I had to pay an additional $150.00. His professionalism was poor, and he basically held me hostage, and gave me no information on the process. I would not use this company!!!!!!! read more
