Needed service to help rid of all the pesticide dust from the exterminator treatments. Used this service this week and a different service previous week for my studio apartment. Completely night and day. The hourly rate here is consistent with what I expected. Even though it was a 4 hour minimum for home cleaning, Ricardo did an insanely spectacular job and was worth every penny and then some. It was like I walked into a brand new apartment. For an extremely thorough cleaning, this is it. For a simple routine house clean, a four hour job is probably not needed depending on size of your unit. Even though her apartment was becoming uninhabitable due to her inability to clean, she was very resistant to allowing anyone to come into the home and "mess with her stuff. They were fine cleaning, but forget about asking them to competently deal with a minor change. I was going to be home over the holidays and asked to move my cleaning one week later (my arrangement is every 3 weeks). They said sure and then showed up anyway. So I said no big deal, just that you don't need to come next week. The maid said fine. The night before they were supposed to (no longer) come, I got a reminder that they were coming the next day. I called and told them no, I already cancelled this week because they came last week (which I had cancelled). The woman said fine but not in a way that made you feel confident. Sure enough... they came again that day while I was at work and cleaned my (very clean) apartment. I emailed them and they never got back to me. I will be finding a new service that can handle phone calls. read more

This is an update on my experience with NY Maids, after the original scheduling mishap. I did finally have my cleaning, and was very pleasantly surprised. Sandy, the manager, was very responsive in following up with my concerns. The week prior to my scheduled service (on Sat, 4/20), I received a call from Sandy, as well as a reminder call of the service on Friday, the day before. My cleaning person, Pedro, arrived right on time at 1 PM, with a full "suitcase" of cleaning supplies. He was very thorough, even cleaning out dustballs from behind/underneath the bed, and dusting off vents that were very high up. There was one area on top of a tall bookshelf that I asked him to dust upon my return and inspection and he happily obliged. The protocol is also that he call the switchboard operator at NY Maids, and they confirm with me that I am satisfied with the cleaning before Pedro leaves. He did this, and I did confirm that we were very pleased with the service. Sandy also called me back afterward, just to doublecheck how everything went. I appreciated her followup. Though I was initially quite nervous about the cleaning, my fears were completely put to rest. I would definitely consider using NY Maids again in the future. read more

The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. We used NY maids 3 times. In searching for a service, we realized that it is pretty expensive in comparison to other maid services, but they claim that the higher cost is because they are insured and bonded, and we really appreciated that reassurance. That would be a reasonable claim if they actually used their insurance policy to reimburse for damage to an apartment, which we learned the hard way, is NOT the case. The first 2 cleanings: There were scheduling issues for both, clearly an office coordination issue (one time we made plans to be out of the apt. at 9am on a Sat. as was confirmed only to find out at 9:30am that somehow the maid had been scheduled for 12). The cleaning by Anna, however, was the best cleaning we have ever received. Anna - if you ever leave NY Maids please let us know!! The 3rd cleaning: We requested Anna, but she was not available. Since we were soon to have guests staying with us, we scheduled another maid. When she arrived, we were getting ready to leave, but thank goodness we were still there for about 15 min. She did not speak any English, but I do know a little Spanish, so we were able to communicate what we were looking for. As we were trying to rush out the door we were delayed .... BY OUR OVERFLOWING DISHWASHER! She had put Dawn detergent in the dishwasher!! & for some reason was standing there watching as it overflowed with bubbles until I waded through and turned it off myself. She apologized and we told her to just not worry about running the dishwasher - didn't want to make her feel worse. We left, and my fiance became very nervous about some of our things, and what she may choose to clean them with (Plasma TV with Windex = broken). I called the dispatcher, told her what happened and that I was not calling to complain, I just wanted her to tell the maid that if she had any questions at all, she can call at any time. We returned home - the maid had already left - we realized damaged to the apartment. 1. Bleach on our bathroom towels - she must have used bleach on the walls and hung the towels up against it. 2. Broken floor fan. It was pulled apart and in 3 pieces when we saw it. She clearly knew she had broken it and didn't even say anything. 3. A dent in the wall behind our bed. Our bed is in the corner of the room, so she must have moved it to clean the floor next to the wall. NY Maids later claimed that there was no way of our knowing that she even moved the bed. It was in a different place!!! I didn't have room to plug in my charger next to the bed, the headboard was no longer against the wall, basically, you know if your bed has been moved. 4. A chip in the leg of an antique chair. Exactly at the height of our vacuum. I did mention this to the manager, but told her I would not put it in our claim bc I did not want the chair replaced, so there was really no way to reimburse for it anyway. As with Genevieve's situation, apparently, the DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED UNLESS THE MAID ADMITS TO HAVING DONE IT. At first she denied all of it. Then, she admitted that she did use bleach on the walls, so it may have gotten on the towels. She said that she couldn't put the fan back together, but that it wasn't broken. Sandy, manager at at NY Maids, said that since she did admit to tampering with the fan, they would replace it (still implying that she believed that the maid did not break it). Since the maid claimed that she did not damage the wall, Sandy said that she would not compensate for it bc (quoted from Sandy's email) "when 2 parties make different statements and there is no reasonable cause or motive, it becomes hearsay". Sandy - your maid had already lied! & your policy, as explained to me, is that as long as they bring the damage to your attention before the customer does, then they are excused. If they do not, they are reprimanded or fired. Fear of being fired seems like motive enough to lie to me. (not to mention that if she flooded my kitchen, damaged 2 things, why not believe that she damaged a 3rd?) The cleaning that caused the damages to our apartment was on March 17, 2011. Since then, I received a reply to 1 out of every 3 or 4 emails that I sent to follow up on our claim. Sandy has accused me of lying, harassing her (as if I wanted to have to send so many follow up emails??), yelled at me, and hung up on me. We finally received new towels on July 8, 2011. I have given up on the wall damage, even though that will cost the most to fix of all the damage. Sandy - if people only wrote negative reviews, then there would not be so many businesses out there with 3,4, & 5 star reviews. Wake up and realize that the reason your business gets bad reviews is because of your business policies and YOU, not your customers. read more

Let's just say that when I took NY Maids to Small Claims Court, the clerk said "Are you SERIOUS?" And she actually added an interest fee onto the amount they owed because they had taken so long to deal with the situation. (Oh - and they never showed up for the small claims court appointment.) I cancelled my appointment 72 hours before the appointment and they still showed up. I turned them away, called the office and they said "Oh, we're sorry, our mistake. We'll refund you but it might take a few days to show up on your credit card." I said thanks. For some reason, they came back two days later. I wasn't home. I called the office. They agreed to refund me again. I can't tell you how hard I tried to get refunded. Then it changed to "we'll refund half the amount." Then they told me they changed credit card systems so they didn't have record of me, so therefore they couldn't pay me back. I still haven't gotten my $600 back, because their parent company is actually headquartered out of state. I can't review the cleaners because it never happened. I can tell you that I've never dealt with a more inept company in my life. And that's saying something. read more

I have to admit that I made a mistake citing the wrong company. Here is an account of my follow up with this company. There is a lot of space in my home occupying two floors of a house, one of which is a finished basement with that basic cemented tile floor. It accumulates the most dirt and dust as well as the location of my bathroom and the kitty litter area. Not only did I want that clean, I wanted the floors of my kitchen and dining room done. The living room has carpeting and I have no problem in using a vacuum. As far as the kitchen, I don't need anyone to wash my dishes or clean the top of my stove. I now get in touch with nymaids to make an appointment. They are sending one person for four hours. I am making a priority list and viewing a checklist of what I need to supply. It tells me that the person can shop for the items and give me the bill if I choose. I have all but a large bucket. She shows up, sees my cats and tells me that she is allergic to them. She then asks if I have a mask. Not on the list, but I happen to have some dust masks. Now she asks if I speak Spanish and tell her that I don't. She is speaking to me in English so I am making the assumption that she understood English as well. Wrong assumption as I later find out. I tell her that I have priorities on what has to be done. She begins to go the kitchen sink as I tell her that I do not need that area cleaned but do need the floors cleaned. I then tell her that it is the basement that needs to be cleaned first. Due to my needing a cane to walk, it is difficult for me to go up and down the stairs often. Her first upset was seeing the floor that surrounded the cat litter. She asked for the vacuum cleaner and I told her that she first needed to sweep the floors. She used one of those Swiffer type mops. There were places that the cats had thrown up and the stuff had hardened. I pointed out that she did not clean it well but she ignored it. At another point I watched her clean one area and it was obviously not cleaned up. She was trying to use a soft brushed broom dipped in water and it just did not work. I told her that she needed to use a brush (of which it was listed as supplies). I got that she did not want to get down on the floor let alone do any bending. I gave her a broom with a hard brushed bottom of which could be screwed off so you can dip it into the sudsy water. When she went to do the bathroom I told her that she needed to do the corners signaling the direction with my hands. I later found that it wasn't done. I pointed to an area just under the stairs that needed to be swept and washed. It didn't get done. It was basically that I would ask, she would say "yes" and not do it or the opposite. I could hear the vacuum going in the basement as she kept it on even when she wasn't using it. I told her that she had to clean out the vacuum so that it would not accumulate. That didn't happen. Both vacuums needed to have the dirt dumped. As I sat in the living room I told her that I did not need the carpet vacuumed as it was something I could do myself. She nodded as if she understood and then began vacuuming the carpet. I had to repeat myself. As she was ending her time I asked if she did the stairs which accumulates cat hair and kitty litter from their paws. She said that she did and again later found that it wasn't done. I had also told her that I needed the cat carrier cleaned out. She kept washing around the outside. I told her, "no, I need the inside cleaned". She was not a happy camper as it needed a bit of scrubbing and she was ready to leave. She used a lot of paper towels and finally used a sponge. She then called to her office telling me that I have to speak with her manager to tell her if everything was okay. Now, she's handing me her phone and standing right there. Am I going to go through the entire scenario? I also figured that if she said she did something it was done. Having been tired and going out for the evening, I did not check all. The next morning I look around the basement to see that things are moved. read more

I just wanted to address one thing the manager of NY Maids said in her comment to my review: that the job "was $297+tax and entailed 8 hrs of labor." The charge on my credit card was $323.37, and the two cleaners were in our house from 3pm until 5:30 (which adds up to five hours of labor, not eight). Again, this seems to be a case of one person's word against the other's, but to be frank I have no motivation to lie about these facts. The manager, on the other hand, does have such motivation. And her lies -- like her hanging up on me in anger -- speak volumes about the integrity of this company. read more

Awful service. I used this service a handful of times. 50% of the time the housecleaner was sent to either the wrong address or on the wrong day/time. Their carelessness caused me to be late to work or in one instance I left work in the middle of the day to let in the housecleaner in and give her instructions, and she didn't show up at all. Their service has wasted my time as well as the time of their own employees who they send all over the city with wrong addresses and appointment times. I will never use them again. read more

I had to clean an apartment that had been neglected for a very long time. I called on Saturday to try to book for the very next day and of all the places I called this was the only one who could make it. I ordered a spring cleaning which means two cleaners for four hours. I also ordered supplies, which are extra. Normally they give an hour window for the cleaners to arrive but the guy on the phone said that this time they can arrange for the cleaners to arrive at 12pm. The cleaners arrived around 12:15 and started right away. They were pretty good. Everything they cleaned was fully clean. The only issue I had was that they didn't necessarily notice everything that needed cleaning so I needed to come back every now and then and ask them to clean something. The workers' english wasn't very strong but I expected that from the reviews. With a mix of english and some hand waving we seemed to communicate well enough. Surprisingly, they finished by 3:30 and asked me if there was anything they missed. Once I told them that everything was good they texted the agency, who called me to make sure they could clock out the workers. The woman on the phone asked me to make extra sure that everything I wanted done was done. Once I agreed, the workers were clocked out and left, taking down the trash. All in all I am happy. I felt a little annoyed at first that I had to double check the work but they were willing and capable and in the end the place was thoroughly cleaned. I'm also pretty grateful that I could get this task done on such short notice. read more

I found the NY Maids service online and decided to use them because of their spring cleaning anti-allergen package. I spent $277 plus a $40 tip to have two maids do a thorough cleaning for four hours. The first maid arrived on time and I showed him everything I wanted done. We had problems with bugs in our flour so I asked him if they could pull everything from our kitchen cabinets and give them a thorough wash. He said that would be no problem. He also assured me that he was going to clean under everything. I left for work and thanked him. When I got home only 4 of the 20 shelves in our kitchen cabinets had been cleaned, and only in a cursory manor. The floor under my bed was clean, but nothing had been done under the other bed or any other piece of furniture in our small 400 square foot apartment. The bathroom had been cleaned but there were still dirty patches. Most of the floor crevices were still dusty, and I had to sweep the next day. I don't know if the second maid ever came or how long the first maid stayed, but the result was extremely disappointing. For over $300 I had expected the deep clean advertised and instead received a service that I could have done myself in an hour. read more

Post construction cleaning. The crew of three arrived right on time. Scheduling had been easy and flexible. The crew was friendly and communicated easily when I asked for certain things to be done. We were unable to stay during the three hours that they worked, but when we returned that night to check it out we were very happy. They did a top notch job! The person who scheduled the job called to follow up to make sure we were pleased. He let me know that the crew worked 30 minutes extra to get everything done....no charge. We left each worker a nice tip to show our gratitude for their hard work and professionalism. read more

The first time I used them they were ok but 30 minutes late ( after the hour window they are given in which to arrive) So, ok sometimes that happens and giving them the benefit of the doubt I tried again. Today I waited 90 minutes for them to show up, called the office was told they would check into and call me back in two minutes. 20 minutes later I still hadnt heard from them, called back again and was told they didnt know where the maid was. They asked if I wanted to reschedule, for another day with barely an apology for my 90 minute wait - not to mention that I was now late to work. I will never use this company again...... read more

Friday May 3rd we had our first cleaning done by a woman named Altagracia. SHE WAS AMAZING!!! I can't speak for the service as a whole but as for my personal experience with Altagracia, it was above and beyond. We had been using a different derive for months and I could not BELIEVE the amount of dust, dirt, and garbage that Altagracia discovered under and behind things. She moved every piece of furniture and let me tell you all of our furniture is super heavy wooden furniture. She was a dream and so pleasant. I can't wait to have her back. read more

If I could give them negative stars, I would. This is by far the worst company I've ever dealt with. I signed up for a recurring service years ago without a lot of research and having never hired anybody to clean my home for me. The woman who initially came to clean did an okay job, but constantly broke things and I could never find things. I never reported things getting broken because the customer service was so awful that it never seemed worth my time. Over time things came up and I would have to reschedule service from time to time. This should have been easy, but for some reason it just never was. I would have to be on the phone 3-4 times just to get things going properly again. I would call and schedule something and then less than 10 minutes later they would call me to tell me that they had screwed up the rescheduling, etc... I stopped using the number they had for me regularly and despite me constantly asking them to email me or use another number if things came up, they just never changed their information and would usually use that number (but not always, so I knew that they had the other information). Eventually, the first person they had cleaning my place was no longer available (I assume she quit based on how weirdly evasive they were about it) and they sent somebody new. That person did a certifiably awful job. Trash wasn't taken out, the bed was barely made, my ironing board that hadn't been out when I left was laying in the middle of the floor, etc...I called and they allegedly sent somebody new, but it really wasn't the greatest work in the world. After about a month of low quality service and talking extensively with other friends who had cleaning services and were appalled by the quality of service I had been receiving, I decided to go a different way. Given the history of incompetence at the customer service level, I dreaded making the call and was pleasantly surprised when they said nothing more than "thank you for your business and we are sad to see you go." Had I been thinking, I would have asked them to return my key (which, btw, they promise is kept in some lock box, but there have been definite indications to me that isn't always true--like after the maid somehow managed to BREAK THE KEY and they didn't know or tell me about it until several weeks later--it also took several calls for them to finally tell me that the key was broken and that's why she kept missing our appointments), but I just didn't think about it. I didn't think about it until nearly a month later when somebody showed up IN MY APARTMENT from NY Maids in spite of me firing them a month earlier. I was irate, particularly after checking my bank account to see that they had charged me for a service that I had specifically requested not occur. You would think that there would be profuse apologies from NY Maids for the mistake and for sending somebody entering my apartment without my permission. You would be wrong. They instead treated me as if I was overreacting and never once apologized. The woman who responded to another reviewer's comment (Sandy) followed up with a threatening email about how I was subject to an early cancellation fee per my contract and threatening to "investigate" and "call the department of labor" if I was using one of their former maids, which I most definitely would not and was not. Fine, but this all still could have been resolved easily enough had they returned any of my calls or emails. Instead they just simply never ever responded. They never once responded to my numerous requests to refund my money--I had to dispute the charge with my bank. They never once responded to my requests to return my key--I've since changed my locks. They never once responded to my requests to see the contract that they claimed permitted them to charge me a cancellation fee (to date, they have not charged me for that). And they never once apologized. I've never reviewed a place before and hesitated for quite awhile before posting here because I really don't want to be vindictive, but I would hate for anybody else to go through what I went through. As for Sandy who claims that these are anomalies, take a look at the better business bureau, where they have also been given an "F" rating based on nine complaints (including 4 that they just failed to respond to) for problems with service and for billing/collection issues. For their own sake, I hope that they take a hard look at themselves and correct this level of service in the future and for the sake of other customers, I hope that you take a long, hard look at these reviews before using NY Maids. read more

The only reason they get two stars instead of one is that one of the maids who came to my house 10+ times was very good and a sweet woman. Everything else about this service is TERRIBLE. My main complaint is that they charge your credit card for services WAY in advance -- sometimes 10 days in advance. Then, if you cancel a service (which you are allowed to do under the contract with a few days notice), you have to ask them to remove the charge. In one instance, I was away for a few months, and the billing people tried to convince me to just let the charge stand as a future credit toward a service. No thanks -- I don't want to pay for services I didn't get. The credit card communication problem became a big enough deal that I eventually canceled the service, and I also had to cancel my credit card for fear that they would keep charging my card for services that I did not have. An unpleasant, time consuming experience. read more

Ricardo and Juliana did a wonderful job on a studio apartment housing a friend of ours on the lower West side. This was an apartment in need of a cleaning SWAT team...years of grime, dust and more. They were on-time, put their all into the job, and were even able to remove what we thought were indelible stains. We hired NY Maids to do a cleaning for an empty apartment. They were recommended to us by a co-worker. Their fee is not cheap, but we expect that from a service. They were supposed to clean for 4 hrs. The maid called and advised that she cleaned for 1/2 hour. When we arrived, the floor was dirty & disgusting. How could they charge $135 for 1/2 cleaning where nothing was done? It was the easiest job in the world because the apartment was empty. ridiculous. We are still trying to get our money back. NY Maids promises 24 hour response if you write them within 24 hrs of the job. Lies. We did not hear from them. So we called. And they promised to call us back with response. Nothing.
