This is one of our little secrets in Franklin, so don't tell anybody! O' Be Joyful is tiny- so small and usually busy that you may have to slide in sideways. Don't be afraid- slide on in and find a seat at the very cool concrete bar. The lighting is enchanting, the music is spot on and not over powering and the conversation and care by the bar staff is warm and friendly- not rushed at all. And then there's the food! This is a small bar with just a few tables along with the seating around the bar itself. My friends & I were delighted to see that they had the vegan Impossible burger on their menu. We each ordered one from Anthony, the bar tender, who was also the waiter and the server! But I have to say that he was very efficient at all three! He was also visiting with everyone at the bar as well as everyone at our table - very personable & friendly. He had a talent for making everyone feel welcome and 'at home', and genuinely made an effort to make sure you were happy with your orders. Our burgers came with house made chips and was delicious. The buns were fresh and nicely toasted just to make them warm & soft. We enjoyed every bite and will definitely come back the next time we visit Franklin. read more

The Good: A fun stop while in downtown Franklin!!! A great selection of whiskey and a good beer and food selection. Ambiance is cool and conversations were great. It's better than the semi-Acadian joint that used to fill the space, but this is a burger joint on Franklin's Main Street. Enjoy your average burger knowing you're paying rent instead of paying for great food. What is it about this slice of time where mankind seems unable to exist without yet another burger joint? Another whisky joint? Oh, be puzzled! The fresh fries are excellent. The Average Joe burger was tasty. The bacon-wrapped jalapenos were a waste of Benton's bacon. If you want good burgers, these are O.K. Your mileage may vary, but there's too much competition in the low art of ground beef on a bun. Avoid the jalapeno appetizer unless you want an endless chew that even Brer Fox might consider proper substitute for a tar baby. You can get a good beer and better whisky just about everywhere these days, but if this is where your backside lands, well, order up! Note to chef: Benton's is overused in the market. It's applied badly on your jalapenos. Instead of re-selling Benton's success, why not focus on developing a dish that shows your kitchen's ability to excel at something as straightforward as bacon? Benton's is thick and because of its cure is difficult to chew if not crisped. Your stuffed jalapeno recipe leaves us with a mouth full of soggy bacon and a greasy hand filled with naked peppers. Not joyful. You may as well fill your peppers with toothpicks soaked in Benton's grease and save a few bucks. Yes, the meaty experience was like chewing wet wood. Wrapped peppers need to be biteable all the way through without a wrestling match. To deliver joy in every bite you need a fatty wrap that can be bitten in place and joyfully chewed. Rude bartender, who may of been the owner, not sure. He was confrontational, pretentious, and had no remorse after shouting a disrespectful comment to me across the entire room and full house of customers as we were leaving. We came in to use the restroom with full intentions on ordering a drink afterwards but decided against it after the bartender began pounding on the door literally as I closed it. While waiting for my friend to finish I sat down, perplexed and taken back as to what just happened. I no longer felt welcome so we opted to go someplace else. Upon leaving he hollered, hope you enjoyed the restroom. I walked back in and addressed my concern, asked him how does that make his heart feel speaking to guests in such a manner and he stated he didn't give a damn. Very small place. Seating includes bar chairs along a pretty long bar, a few seats against the window and a 2 seat high top. There are a few seats along the back wall with a narrow shelf to put drinks. We ordered fried pickles....amazing! Probably the best fried pickles I've had. I ordered the pimento burger. It was pretty good. The bacon jam was a little sweet for my taste but I should have considered that first because it usually is. But the burger toppings needed more dressing. It was fairly dry. Some mayo probably would have helped. I did like the burger patty. My bf got the steak sandwich and liked it well enough to get his leftovers to go. Also, they have a ton of alcohol selections. I would have really liked to see more specialty cocktails on the menu. There were only a few. Overall, not bad but not sure it'll be my go to place for a perfect burger. read more

Tried to order online at 10pm since it said they were open till midnight . No go. No phone number to call so we walked over got there before 11:30 with a decent amount of guest in the restaurant with chairs up on the tables and we were rudely told that they were closed when it clearly says on website and social media that they are open till midnight. For a place with "Joyful" in the title,  I've never seen a more consistently unhappy group of bartenders.  This establishment has potential, however the service is remarkably slow and they don't add much cheer to the atmosphere.  I have witnessed countless customer walkouts and from the attitude it seems to be rather common place.  Laissez-faire and "mixologist" style bartenders don't really coincide.  I often wonder how much money is being lost because of the inability to get drinks out at a reasonable speed during peak hours. Spent the evening enjoying the food, drinks, and bartenders were delightful. We had a jalapeño poppers, hot dog, house salad, chips and queso. Everything came out quick and was really great. Simple & sweet! I enjoyed the environment and the great selection of cocktails, straight whiskey and surprised to find a great selection of beers. California- about 40 miles from the Mexican border so we have access to the best Mexican food there is. The food is delicious. The drinks are great. I have no complaints. I usually don't order hamburgers when I'm eating out (more of a grilled chicken fan) but they nailed it. I created my own with bacon and it was perfect for me. A little crunch but not overdone. The mint julep was good too. I will be back. read more

One of the best old fashions I've had in Tennessee. Great whiskey/bourbon selection. Bartender has great taste in selection of flights. Chili hot dog comes in shy to second place if any I've ever had in my life (first is hands down Daddy's Dogs in Nashville), but this is nothing to be ashamed of on this establishment's part, considering their purpose is not a hot dog specific restaurant. O' Be Joyful is one of my favorite spots in Downtown Franklin but I have been very disappointed in the way they have handled the COVID-19 pandemic. The bartenders do not wear masks and there are no social distancing guidelines implemented the bar, which is already small. Chairs at the bar are very close together and there are no mask requirements, as well as no apparent measures taken to sanitize tables or menus after use. Also, music is extremely loud and it is hard to hear and staff is not warm or friendly. Will not be returning anytime soon. read more
