I've been to O'Brien's in Walnut Creek, but this little drive thru is closer to where I live so I was excited to visit. My husband and I just went for a walk, so we decided to treat ourselves to a little treat. When we pulled up, we thought it was closed at first because no one was at the window. It took a few seconds for someone to actually get up from where they were sitting to take our order. Once he sat up, we placed our order quick and was on our way. In the are and after having Indian food for lunch in nearby Benicia over the bridge I was craving some ice cream. I saved O Briens on my go to list and today was a best opportunity to finally try it . My Waze got me there just hard finding exactly where it is when you make the final turn because it's so tiny of a place. It's the size of a cafina drive thru. There is only like one arrow in the asphalt pavement to guide you which way the pull-up ordering window. Young lady working was very helpful seemed joyful to work there . I told her what flavor and size and it was so simple and fast no one in front of me . Winter time , guessing during peak summer and hot day this place must get busy. Across the street is (SAFEWAY) anyways the ice cream it tasted like ice cream from the store to me. But then again I ordered something simple without toppings. Overpriced at $6 but that's life these days. The pricy menu is a negative . I don't pipe fire it 5 stars if the prices are more adequate for the quality . I had to ask for napkins too but the service and speed made up for any nuisances. read more

Did you know they let me do half and half of two different scooops of ice cream and count it as one total?! I got half cookies and cream half coffee My mom and grandma got the Maui waui kinda like pineapple dole whip with some other tropical flavor on it My aunt got strawberry Must get is the waffle bowl So thin and crisp! Love that it's like a drive thru so we don't even need to get out of the car! Props to them and ima visit next time I'm in town! My daughter enjoyed her chocolate milkshake, which is the only reason I'm giving three stars. Unfortunately I feel like I wasted my money on the bionico. It was made with frozen fruit that seemed more suited for smoothies, not a proper bionico. Bionico is supposed to be made with fresh fruit and canned condensed milk. I should have known better because this place is not traditional Mexican food so I should have expected that it would not be a traditional bionico. What I got was an overpriced cup of frozen fruit with squeeze out condensed milk. Definitely not something I would order again. read more

How random yet soo cute to have an ice cream stand in a gas station. It was a really nice treat to say the least. And it's a drive through on BOTH sides! We couldn't resist haha. Horrendous experience. Watch out if you have small children. We are going to have to have our child get a blood draw to make sure he didn't ingest pest poison. The waffle bowl had a terrible chemical taste. When I came up to the window, I was told that they don't use any cleaning chemicals at all, only windex. Which seems improbable, so they don't clean their surfaces? But, I could smell that chemical when I came up to the window. My take is that some chemical was accidentally sprayed on the waffle. Maybe a cleaning chemical or I hope not any pest poison. Will never come back here or to any O'Brien's. And I am contacting the Health Department. read more

A nice hidden spot at the old Caffino/Java drive thru coffee place. You can either drive thru or walk up to get your ice cream. This place can get busy so try to go in the middle of the week or during off hours. Ice cream was good and tasted fresh. I got the strawberry ice cream which had bits of strawberries which was a nice surprise. They also have different flavors like avocado and chamoy which is a nice change of pace from the standard flavors you find at other places. read more

This is my second time having ice cream here. It is a very convenient location in Martinez that you can just drive through. My first visit I had the Kona ice cream shake and it was delicious. This time I had a regular scoop of strawberry on a cone and I was not impressed. The flavor seemed fine, but the ice cream was not smooth, or creamy but it was very icy, and as you tried to eat it, it would just crumble and fall off the cone. it actually made a mess in my car. Hopefully there's just something going on with the freezer and the ice cream just got a little too frozen. My daughter also got a cone of a different flavor and the same thing happened. I will be back to give them another try, but was disappointed in our experience. The person that took our order was prompt and very helpful. read more

Disappointing. Tiny scoops of cheap MeadowGold Dairy ice cream on extremely stale cones for $5 each. Low-quality ice cream made with too much added water. More like "icy cream". Mouthfeel closer to a paleta than a quality ice cream. I wrongly presumed it would be family run, with delicious and original homemade ice cream flavors. I can buy a whole 1.5 quart container of MeadowGold Moose Tracks for $5. But they're open until 8pm year round and make for a fun drive-thru experience for kids, extra star. read more

I ordered the strawberries and cream and it was horrible. The cream was just greek yogurt and the strawberries were completely frozen. They are literally inedible and it was a waste of $7. I would not get this again. The worker was also not very friendly. read more

Mint chip ice cream had little mint flavor and rocky road had no chocolate flavor. Traditionally rocky road is made with almonds. Theirs had walnuts. Very expensive for mediocre ice cream. read more

Was craving ice cream after a long drive home from Los Gatos (Traffic! Crazy drivers! Exhaustion!) and knowing this little drive through finally opened and being only a mile from getting home, we knew we needed to stop for a treat. There were 2 cars ahead of us and the line moved quickly. Once we ordered (coconut, avocado, and lucuma scoops between 2 separate orders), we KNEW we found our new favorite little ice cream joint. Not only can I get an authentic Taiwanese shaved ice, but they have an incredible variety of ice flavors (strawberry, mango, green tea, etc) and toppings. They also have boba tea (which also originated in Taiwan), milk tea, regular ice cream, freshly cooked Chinese finger foods, and more. The place has tables inside and out and is always immaculate. I also really appreciate that they don't add the problem of landfills overflowing with plastics! They use real dishes and real silverware. I don't know of any other place that conscientious. I have been going here for 8 years. It was started by a couple from Taiwan and the owners the last several years are from China. They keep the place open seven days a week, but even with that grueling work schedule, the customer service is always fantastic. They go out of their way to keep their customers happy. Apparently, I'm not the only one who loves the place, because when school gets out, the place is filled with teenagers and families with children. It's a great place to hang out. I've tried other places in the East Bay, but this is my absolute favorite place for Chinese shaved ice, boba tea, and other yummy foods. I can't recommend them highly enough!

The gal that worked there just didn't seem like she liked her job that much. She didn't smile then when she took my order for my ice cream, which was going to be coffee ice cream with three toppings in it, she barely mixed it together! She flipped it over once and then stuffed it in the cup leaving so much topping (that I was paying extra for!!) on the counter! So I said politely, "you're gonna give me that topping right" and she was like " oh ok" and then she like smushed it on the top like I was at a yogurt shop or something!!! But she STILL left stuff on the cold stone counter. I'm paying for those toppings!!! I want every last one of them. Im paying extra for each topping plus there's hardly any extra topping given so you're getting a lot of extra money from me!! I don't know. Then she had the nerve to say when I was about to pay " the screens gonna ask you some questions " . Why would I give her a tip? I'm getting so sick of these tips anyway. I'm like-- enough already! I'm coming into the store to get ice cream that's your job. Why am I paying you to do your job? Especially when you're ripping me off and not giving me my proper number of turns to fold the topping into the ice cream and then leaving my toppings on the counter! I was just really disappointed and I think I'll just go to Coco swirl across the street from now on because if I'm gonna have my ice cream with the topping on top, I might as well put my own topping on my yogurt. I was just looking at the pictures and was reminded that it didn't even seem like I was given a full medium serving of ice cream because as you can see it was low and then the toppings are on top such a bad experience.

This shop was originally a Mexican ice cream spot, and when it changed ownership, I was worried they would get rid of the flavors I loved. Thankfully, the menu remains pretty much the same. Since it's in a large shopping center, parking is easy, which makes stopping by even more convenient. If you're looking for something different from your usual ice cream shop, O'Brien's is definitely worth a visit!
