The service here is atrocious. I am not kidding. It is not uncommon to stand at the register for ten minutes, as the only person in line, while the baristas pass right by you without even acknowledging you are there. If you order something that takes time to make, you'll need to stand at the bar until it's finished, because when it is they'll leave it sitting there without letting you know that it's ready. And if you order a regular coffee with "room for cream," make sure to specify how much room you want, or else you'll get a cup that's not even half full. With that said, everything else about O'Henry's is wonderful. It's very cozy, the noise level is just about right , and their coffee is some of the best in Birmingham, as are their desserts (though you'll probably not want to order one unless you have a friend to share with- they're very large and super rich). This would be a five-star coffee shop if the staff would get their act together. read more

I've been coming here for ages, and it was love at first sip. From my first cold brew in middle school to intensive study sessions throughout my years at HHS and BSC, this place has been my go-to spot for productivity and the best Southern style iced coffee (i.e. lots of cream and sugar). While my preference in drink selection has changed over the years, the hospitality and atmosphere of this place hasn't--and that's what keeps me coming back. You'll leave smelling like freshly roasted beans and feeling like you've gotten work done. Free wifi! The peach muffins and chocolate chip cookies (catch them while they're warm) are my favorite treats, although none of their sweets are made from scratch. read more

This is a nice place, the surrounding area is pretty and the staff is friendly. They don't have the most space, so it probably fills up during busy times, but it's cozy. I enjoyed my visit and would recommend the place. It was nice that they were open on Sunday 'till 8pm. The city seems to shut down on Sundays. They have free internet wifi. I would put the price range as moderate rather than cheap, I've been to places that charge half as much ($2.45 for a large tea). read more

It's a nice local coffee chain. I thought their coffees were similar to that of a Peet's or Starbucks. What I really liked is that you can buy single pot bags of coffee for gifts. You go for the atmosphere and locality over the coffee, but I personally like cold brews and more trendy varieties of coffee read more

I was so excited knowing I was going to be in town to get O'Henrys. They have the best coffee but I felt like the people working were rude and were very low on supplies for food. It was not the experience I am used to at O'henrys :( I'm unfortunately very disappointed. read more

As someone who worked across the street and remember it first opening, things haven't changed much- O'henry's is still a popular Homewood staple for coffee. Unfortunately the coffee is still ok- i'd rate it a 5 and being better than Starbucks (which gets a 3 in my book). What i didn't like is that it's incredibly loud and densely packed with people, many just sitting there for hours drinking just one cup of coffee and wasting space because they get free internet on the wireless. Did i forget to say the standard house coffee is ok but not great? It tastes just a little over roasted but at least it's strong. I'll have to try their specialty roasts sometime as my opinion may change then. :) read more

I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I stopped by to pickup some coffee for my Airbnb. I wanted something local that was a good representation of the Birmingham coffee scene. I explained everything to the barista man and he was such a help. He talked me through the different types of coffee that would be best and was gracious enough to actually choose one for me. As he ground the coffee, I got a chance to check out the place. It seemed like such a nice spot to steal way for a while, grab a coffee or tea and just think. Very chill and cozy spot. I had my first renters this past weekend and they loved the coffee so much that they took the entire pound with them. I have to say that's a good sign of the quality of their coffee! I'll be back soon for a 1/2 lb this time and a cup of tea. read more

This place holds a special place in my heart. From studying in college to first dates with my now husband, O'Henry's in Homewood is the place to be. I love that it's open from really early to pretty late (especially on the weekends) and I can always just pop in quickly for a cup of really great coffee. Their desserts and pastries are great too. I usually just get whatever the flavor of the day is, but their lattes and specialty drinks are good too! One of the best coffee places I have found in town. Nice interior, contemporary meets classic, and with a very chill vibe. Any coffee that I have had there has been great, but personally I think the Guatemalan Guayab has a fundamentally perfect balance (it's fair trade and organic too). I come here for the atmosphere. It's also a favorite hang out for locals. I see friends from h.s. a lot. Every time I come home, I end up at O'Henry's gossiping (I mean reminiscing) about the gool ole' days. Last time I was home, we closed the place down, twice. I'm not a coffee drinking but my friend loves the coffee her where my DH would rather go to a Peet's. The tea selection is normal, I think they serve Republic Teas. I've gotten the hot chocolate on several occasions. The regular cocoa taste just as good as the 'signature' one. There's plenty of parking and they open late on the weekends. read more

One of the WORST coffee places in town. Their coffee is reminiscent of bandaids - kind of rubbery, and there is never anywhere to sit because the place is full of Samford students and endless streams of people in tiny running shorts from the Track Shack. Also, the wifi is terrible. Tonight, I went over to get a snack (I live nearby), and the cookies I got tasted like they sat in someone's hot car for 3 days. I exchanged the terrible cookies for 2 muffins, but when I bit into the first one, THERE WAS A HAIR IN IT! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR COFFEE! read more

A friend was in town and we wanted to just find a nice place to sit, chat and catch up. What an incredible gem we found when we stumbled upon this place, in the trendy SoHo area of Homewood. The seating was fairly intimate and there was just about a full house when we were there on a Tuesday afternoon. I am quite indecisive so I usually always take the first suggestion I get from an associate. I had the SnickerDoodle Mocha, I don't know what to say but heavenly. I can taste it all over again now, the masterful blend of chocolate, hints of cinnamon and a breath of hazelnut, all of which came together to cascade across my tongue into yummy town. Bagels are store bought, and when ordered, the baristas pull them out to toast. Disappointed that they weren't freshly made in-house nor locally. My Chai tea did not have a strong enough flavor. It tasted like steamed milk and sugar. My yogurt parfait was great, although it did not have a sticker with ingredients, so not sure if it was healthy or not. I enjoy that O'Henry's cold brews their iced coffee, because that's the way it should be done. On a beautiful day when the weather is nice and you want to relax with an espresso, this is the place to do it. Looking for some good coffee back home, after retuning from 6 months of delicious coffee in Los Angeles. I found O'Henry's, and I love it!

This coffee shop is one of my favorites. It's in a cute area, easy & free parking, and I love walking around afterwards to check out the different shops. I would have given it 5 stars, but there's limited plug outlets. There's two plug outlets for customers so make sure you charge your computer and/or phone before you get here. They also have a flavor of the day coffee, which is just as great as their lattes. They even do latte art. Oh and if you're in the mood for a treat, check out their peanut butter chocolate cake. OHenrys is by far my favorite local coffee shop and this is my favorite location. I always get the iced coffee with almond milk .. Mmm! Food wise I LOVE the cinnamon and orange cranberry scones - they are delicious! For a more savory option the conecuh sausage biscuit is very rich and yummy! Service is always fast and friendly too! Love this local coffee joint, and I love the fact that it is around the corner from the hotel where I was staying. No hipster staff glared at me like they do in the coffee places near where I live, and their coffee is good! I got an iced soy latte, while enjoying the cozy surroundings during my short wait. Decor is far from the cookie cutter coffee places...I loved looking at all the things lining the walls. Only negative...their pastry case looked a little picked over but the staff was trying to fix by furiously icing a tray full of cupcakes. read more

Once you do, it's tight in there, so if you are trying to work and are easily distracted by loud conversations nearby, this isn't the place for you. Not much in the way of personal space. Love this place but sometimes their internet acts up. The Chai tea was very sweet but their coffee is amazing.

Avoid the pie. While the good folks go to great lengths to outsource pastries and have a small bakery, the pie comes from Costco.
