Downtown on ewa side of Nuuanu Avenue, just past Hank's Bar and before you hit South King Street intersection. Little place with a few tables inside but a small raised covered patio in back. Welcomed in the nicest manner when we entered and we had made a rez so were all set. This place is popular so fills up quickly at lunchtime. We had Moon and Nimai as our servers and they were awesome! Kept our waters filled, checking back on napkins, drinks, dessert. Started off with the fish jun which we all shared and was a delicious little roll of goodness and a dipping sauce not too spicy. Also loved the Lilikoi lemonade which was so refreshing and not overly sweet. Little seeds floated about in the large glass and all four of us lunching ladies enjoyed it! The seaweed salmon is a nice size lightly poached with panko and some type of delicate sauce. The kalbi was excellent with just the right amount and I loved the kabocha puree. The Korean chicken comes in a basket with lots of bite sized pieces. The gobo hot pot rice was a large-ish serving and plenty of minced meat. We thoroughly enjoyed the Elote ice cream which looks like a corn cob but delightfully is not - just the smoothest sweetest ice cream with dried strawberry and cream topping yum! Moon and Nimai surprised our guest of honor with a complimentary piece of cheese cake so that was a nice touch. The bill was very reasonable for a party of four - appetizer, main, dessert and lemonades. Service was wonderful and just be aware if you sit on lanai there are a couple of wandering chickens and pigeons but the servers are good about chasing them away. There isn't a view here either, just the back of the restaurant with some grass open space which is pleasant. There are also fans above you to keep flies away making it much cooler. Not sure if a restroom is available. If no street parking, then closest is open lot across of Murphy's on Nuuanu further south, or the former Walmart on Bethel, one block east. All in all we enjoyed our lunch and will return to try more specials that come out every month!
I can't believe it took me this long to go to O'Kim's. I had a sample of their food at the Korean Festival a couple years ago - there's nothing like going to the actual restaurant for a wonderful meal. I stopped by last Friday for lunch. It was early so I was able to walk in a snag a table in the front. I like to eat spicy food at home where I can sweat all I want haha - in a restaurant, I prefer non-spicy food. I picked the Kalbi, and I couldn't be happier! First, they brought a lovely salad with a seaweed tasty dressing - I think they should bottle the dressing if they already haven't! So good! Plus, they brought me some pickled vegetables and kimchi - yum! Such a great way to start my meal, and also partly as a palate cleanser. The Kalbi were strips of beef over a bed of squash purée with slow-cooked onions and root vegetables - so Ono and comforting! I didn't think I would finish it, and I sopped up every bit of that puree along with that oh so tasty Kalbi! I was full to complete satisfaction! I will be back for sure as soon as I can! Service was lovely and Aloha! Mahalo, O'Kim's for such a delectable meal!
Located downtown on Nuuanu St. Made reservations before going for dinner but there were a lots of tables available since it was a week night. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor is very cool and clean feeling. Outside was warmer. Didn't see bugs or anything- I did sit outside. Service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive. Food came out quickly. The yuzu lemonade was yummy. Not too sweet or tart. The kimchi mandoo was good. Great flavor and just a hint of spice. The pork belly was really tender. Portion size looks smaller but it's definitely filling. The Bibimbap is packed with with flavor. It's a shareable dish. The portion sizes are deceiving. Looks like there may not be enough food but it ends up being too much. The free kimchi and kimchi refills was the best part!
Not all things get better with time. Some things wane and loses its luster... here is my summary - 1 star for the front of the house poor service and attitude - 1 star for the escalated pricing and smaller portions It saddens me to reduce points /stars against an establishment that once impressed me and the rest of the city and its periodic visitors. The owner of this establishment is a great person and works extremely hard. He should read what some of us have to say and correct the obvious. Not necessarily the pricing as that goes with the strength, or the lack of it within our nation. That said should look at the front of the house And it's employees. The host, the gal who takes in all of the patrons, has a horrible attitude. I was told, though by others that is a cultural thing and I should get used to it. Question that becomes is it worth the simple fact that it is a BYOB establishment? Located on Nuuanu Avenue street parking or municipal parking available
Have been here for lunch a couple of times now, once with my sister and more recently with Kauaian Joe K. Both times I thought were fantastic. Most of the menu items make me drool but I've always given in to the Stone pot Bibimbap with Washugyu beef. I just can't get enough of that nurungji (crispy browned rice) on the bottom of the stone pot. Aside from the beef on rice action, there are some seasoned vegetables and mushrooms to happily mix in. And of course can't forget to mention the sunny side up egg on top, the rich yolk mixed into it all just tops it all off. Besides having the stone pot meal I've also got a sampling of my sister's Kalbi steak short ribs on root vegetables. This was really tasty as well and the purple rice it came with was nice. Some sides we've had were the vegan Jabchae lumpia with truffle aioli dipping sauce and also the Truffle mandoo... these were also great. The meal also comes with banchan, A nice seaweed soup the first visit and a tasty beef broth with pieces of beef and vegetable the second. You also get some kimchi and various pickled vegetables (banchan you can also get more if you wanted.) The other great part is their gochujang that I liberally mixed into my bibimbap, a no brainer for me. Im fortunate to live downtown so can walk over but there's ample street parking and various municipal lots in the area.
I suggested this spot to go with me and my coworkers. A couple of them have already tried take out food from O'kims before, stating that they enjoy their fried chicken quite a bit. The establishment has two areas, the main area of what you see when you walk in, and a connected area. I would say that it doesn't seem to be fully furnished. Another note is that there is no AC (just fans) and all of my coworkers said (when leaving) that they were sweating, I was fine on the other hand though, but I do agree that it wasn't the most comfortable with the heat. We asked to be seated inside and sat in the connected area (which just has 2-3 tables). After being seated, we were told to scan their QR code for the menu. My coworkers got the hot stone bibimbap, I had to teach them how to eat it to get the best experience, by mixing it all up! They both said they really enjoyed it and was decently surprised. I got the kalbi, the black sesame salad that it came with was SOOO good, I NEED that dressing. I also really like the kimchi that was provided. My coworkers didn't touch it so I ended up eating it all. The pot that the kimchi came in was also adorable. The purple rice was also perfect pairing to everything. To the star of the show for me, the Kalbi, it was SOOO tender and flavorful. I do want to note that the portion is a bit small, it got me full but might not do it for everyone. Overall, I enjoyed my experience but I'm not 100% sure if I would go back, at least over other Korean spots I have tried, but I might end up going back to try the other things I haven't tried (or to have that salad again).
Tucked away on Nuuanu Ave is this gem of a restaurant. Parking is metered on the street or public parking lots in the area. You cant tell from the outside but they have both indoor and outdoor tables. The outdoor tables are scenic and tranquil very nice for a date or get together with friends and family. Food: Always amazing, creative and fresh. There are daily specials mixed in with their daily dishes. I recently had their confit pork belly and beef bibimbap both delicious! Paired with kim chee, salad with house made sesame dressing and pickled cucumbers and cauliflower. Absolute delight for both the visuals and taste buds! Service was so efficient and friendly. Love this place always something new to try or stick with my favorites! Delicious food all the time.
My friends took me to Okims today for a late birthday celebration. One of them made a reservation this morning, and luckily we were able to get in by the afternoon. We were originally going to be seated outside, but thankfully we ended up in the AC section--something I didn't even know existed! Last time I was here, we sat outside, so I was pleasantly surprised. The AC area is super comfortable, and I've gotta give them an A+ for creativity with the ceiling-mounted tower fans--such a fascinating touch. I always order the monthly special, and it never disappoints. This time, I had the somen noodle dish, which was light, flavorful, and perfect for summer. My friends ordered the salmon and the pork belly, and we all shared the truffle mandoo appetizer. The mandoo were delicious--the jello shoyu with daikon was a fun twist. We were trying to figure out how to eat it and ended up just putting the jello inside the mandoo for a perfect bite. The real standout of the meal was definitely the salmon. I only had a small bite, but it literally melted in my mouth--so buttery and perfectly cooked. The pork belly had a nice char but was still really tender. One of my friends even tried the elote ice cream, which was definitely... interesting! We got a slice of the basque cheesecake and it was the perfect dessert :)! Overall, Okims never disappoints. They keep the menu fun and creative, and there's always something new to try. Already looking forward to the next visit!
I've been to Okims for dine in before, but this was my first time doing take out for lunch. Our office placed an order online for pickup, and it was ready for us when we got there. I got the kalbi. It came with kalbi, salad with sesame dressing, purple rice, kimchee. Everything in this hit the spot and was the perfect lunch. The kalbi was super soft and flavorful, so I would definitely recommend! All the takeout orders came in these huge cardboard boxes, and inside the cardboard box, everything was packaged in separate containers. It was a very aesthetic lunch, and I was definitely not expecting it to be prepared in such a fancy way. Okims is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the downtown/chinatown area, and I would definitely recommend it to people looking for good Korean fusion food.
Finally made it to O'Kims! Service was friendly, attentive and just awesome! The place was clean and thankfully we could sit inside in this rather steamy weather. The food. Oh my. It was delicious! Everything was so flavorful and balanced. Very attractively plated and most importantly, the kimchi was the closest to my mother's that I have ever had! Everything we had was delicious. When I made the reservation, I noted that we were celebrating a birthday and we were gifted a piece of basque cheesecake to celebrate. It was fantastic! Perfectly baked, great texture and not toooooo sweet. We will happily be back!
This is a nice place to eat downtown. The different dishes like the kalbi and salmon were delicious. It was a nice girls lunch and trying the different dishes was nice. We didn't try desert because we were so full but I don't remember there being very many options anyway. The service was a little slow because they were busy, but it wasn't uncomfortable or inconvenient. The only thing that I would comment on is the air conditioning. O'Kims is a great spot in downtown. I have to admit I haven't actually dined in here in person, but it is one of my go to take out spots for dinner and lunch. Ordering online is a breeze and it's usually very easy to park and run in. Be careful and aware of your surroundings. Downtown can be a little sketchy at night and while places like this restaurant have lots of people around, we've seen a vigilant manager have to chase away some not so friendly characters more than once. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by anything from here. The only thing is that the food is a bit oily and salty. The chicken is really good, and I love the eggplant as well. read more

Another one of Chinatown's hidden gems! I say 'hidden' because there's a cute outdoor seating patio behind the restaurant and you'll never guess it's there from the street. O'Kims has been my favorite when it comes to Korean fusion foods. Their creativity in their dishes nicely combine both traditional and modern flavors. Tldr: it's just an explosion of umami! My favorites include the fried chicken and the seaweed salmon, and I highly recommend their truffle mandoo for appetizers. I tried their miso eggplant for the first time and I'll definitely add that to my list of favorites! Their dishes come with purple rice which you can commonly find in Korean dishes, and their kimchee is so so good. The staff are super friendly and accommodating, and I love that they provide online QR code menus too! read more

Dined here on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm. They were busy but my husband and I were able to be seated right away. One of the specials was corn rice and I love corn so I had to try it. My husband got the kalbi. I thought the corn rice would be like a bibimbap with vegetables but it was literally just corn and rice. The kalbi was tender and tasty. read more

O'Kim's Contemporary Kitchen has me looking for words to describe the love this woman and Asian owned biz creativities is incredible! I do follow them on Instagram @okims_honolulu and see their rotating monthly menu specials and always regret missing out on it as it looks and sound simply divine! Downtown location is the reason for me as I the parking situation is not just a challenge but can get costly. They are located on Nuuanu Ave near N King St so there are several street metered parkings if you're lucky and with a short walk municipal is your best rates if you don't want to rush...which is what I'm doing the next time. It's obvious that it's all homemade and done with pride but also no MSG is used and well this month's special had me flying out there..."Cold Chicken Noodle Soup" the most perfect dish for summer!! This basic titled dish just explodes in flavor in such a light and subtle refreshing way which starts with the most delightful broth piled with a generous portion of ube noodles cooked to al dente perfection, shredded chicken, thinly sliced cucumbers, pickled daikon, homemade kimchi, sliced scrambled egg and that mustard popsicle! Pure bliss!! This year's Hale 'Aina Awards 2022 winner for the Beat Overall Korean certainly deserves it as half the month is already flew by so will this dish which I totally recommend! Not to be overshadowed by the specials is their Vegan Truffle Mandoo yes vegan but need I say I'd take this over any other. Seriously don't know what's in it it's not really described other than the obvious truffle but it's pan friend to the ultimate crispness and is topped with cubes of pickled daikon and shoyu jelly sauce YUM!! I really don't like deep fried version so I was so excited for this and wow!! Go to their website https://www.okimshawaii.com to order online and they do curbside pick up as well which is a great option if you decided not deal with parking they're open daily from 11am and is closed on Sundays and reservations looks to be recommended though I did walk in and got a small table in front though piles of folks piled in soon after. At first glance the place doesn't appear special. But once you walk in and place your order, the food can only be described as my Korean mother's cooking--I am not Korean. The love and passion that goes into those dishes is apparent. I've been on Oahu for one week and returned twice. Who knows, maybe I might return again for one last meal. read more
This place has got it all... Quality food- fresh made to order food that is consistently good and full of flavor. The price here is definitely more than your typical plate lunch spot but they do not skimp on the portions. And you'll find yourself smiling contentedly after each bite of food. I seem to be stuck on their Korean fried chicken. I've never been disappointed with this selection. Customer service- has always been friendly. I've always been greeted upon arrival and thanked when leaving. Convenient- you can order your food over the phone, online, food delivery and even curbside. So easy! The food was amazing, well balanced and delicious. The server was friendly. Had the Korean old lady iced coffee, yuzu lemonade and hibiscus tea all of which were good. 10/10 would come again, was a little on the higher end for a lunch spot (we went at like 230pm) but 100% worth. read more

I don't get out to the Downtown area much because of the parking but this place is worth it. Everything was delicious! I originally wanted to come here for their cheesy katsu but it turns out it's a special! So we just missed it this month (they said the specials rotate and can come back every 3-4 months I think). I was a bit bummed but that attitude changed once we got our food because I loved everything! The bibimbap was tasty and they put the sauce on the side so you can pick your own spice/flavor level. The meat was also super tender. One of the monthly specials was the spareribs and that was also fall-of-the-bone tender. But my favorite was the pork belly - so soft, fatty, and tasty!! The jam and kale toppings blended so well with the flavor too! Each dish came with rice and we actually ended up with more rice than we could eat. Overall, super good and nothing disappointed. You know I'll be back, especially once I see the cheesy tonkatsu come back on the menu! read more

Came here for a date night! We got seated right away. The service was not the best, we had to get multiple times to ask for things like napkins and the check etc. because no one came around. I had ordered dumplings, abalone salad, bibimpap and korean chicken. I thought the dumplings were creative with the jelly soy sauce. The abalone salad was soy marinated but I wasn't a big fan of the flavor profiles together. The bibimpap was the best dish of the night, the meat was really tender and loved the crispy rice. I liked how the korean chicken was boneless but it reminded me of popcorn chicken with sauce. Can I say that the kimchi was pretty delicious here! Definitely would buy some to take home. For dessert I got the elote ice cream - it was delicious. I loved the crunch and marshmallows. Overall, I love the seasonal menu but I feel like the food was prettier than it tasted. read more
Ohh Kims!! Always such a treat to have dinner here! We stopped in for a casual dinner with my mom who had never tried O'Kims before. Parking can be difficult as it is Chinatown, but you can sometimes get lucky with street parking, or you can use the municipal lots around town. They offer indoor & outdoor patio seating - the patio seating is a vibe! Cute plants & lights hanging around & a yard next to it too. There is a core menu w/ all the yummy staples & then a monthly special menu as well. I literally love everything on this menu. What I love about it is all of the portions are so big, and mains comes with rice & salad! This time we tried: - chive pancake: unlike any pancake I've tried! Much thicker, filled with a lot seafood. - truffle mandoo: a must. Every time. - seaweed salmon: my mom LOVED this one. Super soft, flakey & the seaweed panko on top is so flavorful! - stone pot bibimbap: so many flavors! The beef inside was very soft. Comes w/ spice on the side so you can adjust to your liking. Honestly everything on the menu is amazing. You'll just have to keep coming back! Our server was really friendly. He was super apologetic because he was running behind (a few large parties sat right before us) but we were in no rush at all so we were fine. Oh! BYOB! & $1 charge for glassware. 2/24/22 "you scrape your plate goodness" O'Kims Korean Kitchen - 1028 Nu'uanu Ave. @6:20pm- 8:30pm Let me pose a question first before I start to tell you my thoughts of this place. Has there ever been a time when you ate a dish completely out of the idea or suggestion or thought (it has no gravy and it's not spaghetti) - to scraping the plate of delicious morsels cause it had been tasting so damn good?? If your answer is "No" then read on cause I'm about to express my thoughts on foods coming from O'Kims that had me scraping the morsel of food off my plate... not to mention none of which had an idea or thought of "gravy or sauces" involved. I arrived at just the time of dinner being set up... it was obvious that not a lot of people arrived yet and it was nice to see seats available just inside (there is better light inside the entrance of the restaurant. I had a wonderful waitress that night, never shared her name with me but she was fantastic and was working so hard I tipped her pretty well. My first dish arrived to the table- roasted vegetables and those veggies were: carrot, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, petite potatoes & a generous slice of squash. It's the wonderful flavor of the seasoning which included a dash of vinegar to the roasted vegetables in some form. So delicious! The "Korean old Lady iced Coffee" is so delicious it was something I couldn't stop sipping. The dish I ordered finally came out and I could Not get enough of the Confit pork belly brûlée, the apple ginger jam and the sprinkles on top the pork is like green salad that somewhat reminded me of "Furikake rice seasoning" had drawn together the whole dish.... it made me scrape my plate for the wonderful purple rice, use a bit of the pork belly to press the green crunch herb salad into it for mixed texture flavor. I even started scraping the roasted vegetables into the kim chee sauce from the dish holding it. If that wasn't enough scraping... I was using the Kim chee bok choy to wrap around the delicious pork belly and then pressing more of the green salad into it. Much the experience!! I really warrant everyone to notice how alive your taste buds get with a meal that's well cooked from O'Kims. I bet all the dishes off the menu have this effect on customers! Finally when I got Desert and it being a Yuzu citrus cake with homemade green tea ice cream. It just made everything a happy ending... I've never been to a Korean Restaurant that made me savor the food more and if it made me "scrape" my plate then that's even better! Wonderful meal, wonderful service and I can't wait to go back again. I was absolutely delighted by this hole-in-the-wall gem! A true innovative take on traditional Korean dishes with a local twist as well. I tried the truffle mandoo, the eel and chicken bowl, and the elote dessert (which was one of the most innovative and delicious desserts I've had in a while). The truffle mandoo was full of mushrooms and had a great cripsy exterior. The eel dish had a generous serving of eel and I loved the touches of ikura and the chicken with the warm sticky rice. When it came to dessert, I was so full but was in love with the crispy addition of cornflakes and the marshmallow fluff on top that really made the dish stand out. Overall, each dish felt like a discovery, blending tradition with innovation. The casual ambiance paired with Chef Hyun's fun yet grounded culinary experimentation makes this spot a must-visit for those seeking Korean cuisine with a creative flair. read more

This month was a combination of comforting home foods that were elevated to the next level. February Specials: * Korean Cioppino * Red Wine Kalbi JJim * Yakitori Fondue * Egg Bomb Overall my favorite was the Red Wine Kalbi JJim. Very tender and the potato croquette that comes with it is sooo good! I told them that should be an appetizer alone on their normal menu. Don't forgot to order a drink and personally my favorite is their Old Korean Lady Iced Coffee. It's not too sweet but sweet enough to not be straight black coffee. I've known the owner for a long time and hadn't had dinner at her restaurant in a long time! It had been a while since I had eaten fusion-style Korean food, but it was all well done and universally acceptable. I started with the truffle dumplings. It looks like an ordinary dumpling, but the filling is very juicy and the toppings are takuan (radish) and black truffle jelly? The dumplings were a one rank above the rest. The fried white fish was pitch black on the outside, but the inside had a wonderful plump texture of white fish, and when mixed with the sweet-and-sour sauce, it was like eating Japanese nanbanzuke (fried mackerel with sweet and sour sauce) The third item is rice with tender ribs and kimchi. The ribs are prepared very tender and go very well with the accompanying purple rice and kimchi. The lightly grilled zucchini and carrots underneath the ribs were beautifully done. The fourth dish was bibimbap, which had a big impact of lobster. It was a shocking dish in both appearance and taste, with diced cucumber, takuan (pickled radish), tobiko (flying fish egg) kaiware daikon (dried white radish), and lobster all over a bowl of purple rice. If you are looking for fusion-style Korean cuisine, this restaurant is for you. The restaurant is located downtown on the ocean side of Nuuanu Street. O'Kim's has been on my radar for many years now, and oh boy, have I been missing out! When this place first opened, it was solely Korean food. Now O'Kim has rotating monthly specials that are more Asian Fusion than just Korean, and that makes them quite unique. This place is located just in between Downtown and Chinatown along Nuuanu St, near South King St. It's a one-way street going towards King St., so you need to enter from Beretania or Pauahi. There's only street parking. Metered stalls only during the day, and evenings and weekends, you can park along King St. Reservations are probably recommended as this is quite a small place with just a few tables. The main dining area is outside in the back where it's also the restaurant's cleaning and prep area, so don't mind the hanging towels and a dude prepping vegetables. The other option is in front, but that area is quite humid and sticky. We didn't make a reservation (note: the phone number on their website is wrong). We were seated in the front, but luckily, a server came over and told us someone had just canceled and a table for two was available out back. How lucky we are! A totally different feel from the inside. Cool, calm, breezy with some greenery and a chicken pecking around. Definitely way more comfortable! We started with the Truffle Potato Pancakes. This does not scream Korean at all, but it was very good!! The potatoes were ultra thin and made into a cake and deep fried to a golden brown. Very crispy outside, and soft inside. Very well seasoned, and it came with a side of sour cream. It reminded me of Draniki by my Russian friend. The truffle aioli was super good. Very strong truffle taste! Next was the Truffle Mandoo (yes, we truffling up). This was packed with truffles! There was also cabbage, and maybe some pork (hard to tell with all that truffle). It was pan fried very well to a nice crispy bottom. The filling had excellent flavors. It was accompanied with cubes of pickled radish and soy sauce jelly, which was very interesting! A nice combo of sweet, sour, and savory with the earthy truffles. The Miso Eggplant was all right. Not a lot of miso flavor and the skin of the eggplant wasn't easy to eat. It came with three pickled items (cucumber, radish, and ginger). That's a tad too much. Made everything unnecessarily sour. The best part was the rice. It was mixed with seasoned seaweed and wow, was this oh so tasty!! I wish I had this rice for our other order. . . The Bibimbap with Kalbi. This looked amazing when it arrived at the table, but it was all right as well. The kalbi was amazing though. Very flavorful and tender, and cooked just right. The accompanying items (mushroom, carrots, bean sprouts, cucumber, egg, and rapeseed) were tasty and delicious. The rice was a bit mushy, but that wasn't a huge deal. My two biggest issues were: 1) the Gochujang was very mild and bland. No spice kick, no sweetness, no savoriness. It just gave it a red color. 2) The ingredients were cold. So after mixing it, everything was cold. This would've been infinitely better if I got the hot, furikake rice from the miso eggplant dish. The accompanying Kim Chee was all right. The flavors were on the heavy and strong side, and a bit on the sour side as well. The Black Sesame Dressing Salad that came with the Miso Eggplant was good. Very strong black sesame flavor. It was almost paste like. Overall, other than a couple of missteps, I did enjoy the food at O'Kims, especially the truffly Asian Fusion dishes. The service was great. Very friendly and attentive. Food came out quick. Happy to be seated in the nice, tranquil dining area with hanging, stained dish towels :p. I'm a fan, and definitely consider grabbing lunch from here. But sub for furikake rice! read more

Lunchtime at O'Kims! Dinning in? Do your reservation online at least a day ahead. I had their Seaweed Salmon Dish and it was a delight for the taste buds. It started with a slightly poached salmon, topped with a panko and seaweed powder crust. Then topped with a Korean remoulade that reminded me of karamiso but with a finer texture and more umami. Then sides of tosazu gelee, pickled tomato, purple rice, and kimchi to round things out. The dish also included a green salad (not pictured) that was served as an entrée. Ended lunch with their Korean Old Lady Iced Coffee drink that had me reminiscing of those See's Candies Café Latté lollypops that my grandma always ate and was the perfect pick me up to avoid the dreaded post lunch energy vacuum. read more
I've known Che Wai since our hanabadah days and he has never steered me wrong. When he recommended that I try this place, I knew immediately that I was in for a treat :) 1. Truffle potato pancake was nice and crispy. Loved the delicate truffle oil. There was plenty enough flavor and didn't require the additional dip on the side. 2. Mentaiko tamago yaki was truly on point. Flavorful and great texture. I'd totally order that again. 3. Vegan truffle mandoo was by far my favorite. What started as a monthly special is now a regular item because everyone else loves it too! 4. Tofu jajjanmyun was good too. Lots of tasty sauce over noodles with little chunks of lightly fried tofu. 5. Matcha roll cake was just as I imagined. Light green tea flavored sponge cake rolled with cream and azuki beans. Quite delightful! 6. Last but not least, the chocolate lava cake. What's not to like about rich dark chocolate dessert with a warm melted middle oozing as you spoon into it! Oh the flavors did a happy dance in my mouth! They served this with a delicate black sesame ice cream bar, sprinkled with kinako. Wow, wow, wow, you MUST try this! read more
My former boss is like a second father to me. We worked together from 2003-2015 at the vet clinic until he finally hung his retirement hat. Every birthday, I treat him to a restaurant of his choice. Could be fancy, hole-in-the-wall, no matter.... we enjoy the culinary adventure. Even to present day, we still carry on this tradition as an excuse to get together and talk story. This year, his interest was in a little vegan Korean joint called O'Kims. I gotta admit, the name sounded funny to me. Is it Irish? Korean? It's both! O'Kims is on Nuuanu after Hotel Street on your right hand side. Its red and white hibiscus sign and green paint gives you some indication where it is, but it's still easy to miss if you're not vigilant. Parking is at Mark's Garage or the Municipal parking if street parking is unavailable. It was pouring that day. Just my luck. The owner and her daughter are so friendly and eager to share their menu recommendations. I ordered the kkakdugi brisket with fried rice and Doc ordered Garbanzo (vegan) curry. Both come with a side of green salad. The vegan curry was sumptuously rich in flavor, a nice surprise for a meat eater like myself. The bulgogi bibimbap was a nice array of fried rice, bulgogi meat, stir fry vegetables, and an over easy egg. Tasty tasty. Portions are decent and many locals would stroll in and out for pickup... must be a go-to for those working in the area and on their lunch break. The Elote dessert was a playful illusion of "corn on the cob" that was actually made of corn ice cream! So realistic! You wouldn't think it's tasty by description, but it was delicious! Beware of homeless/transients, know your surroundings and try not to walk alone from the parking garage if you can help it (follow couples/groups). read more
Been to O'Kims a couple times so far and my experience has been pretty good for the most part. The food here is delicious. Make sure to check their instagram for their monthly specials. Their korean chicken & cheesy tonkatsu are some of my favorites. The only bad experience I had here was the last time I went. We received our order and our chicken was pretty raw on the inside. We let our server know and she was very apologetic. They offered to make us a new one or a different dish so we just opted for a different dish. Ambiance wise, the restaurant itself is pretty small with tables in the inside front and in the back outside. We usually get seated in the back outside, which is completely fine. Would definitely recommend O'Kims to try out at least once! read more

It was the right amount of sugar to coffee. Nice and sweet. *TRUFFLE MANDOO -four different kinds of mushrooms, zucchini, mushroom paste. -The mandoo wrapper is delicate and perfectly fried with a thin layer of crispy goodness. The mushrooms are so scrumptious with an earthy, savory flavor and soft spongy texture. The mushroom paste heightens the flavor with each bite. A must order. *SEAWEED SALMON -Slightly poached salmon topped with panko and seaweed powder, Korean remoulade, tosazu gelee, pickled tomato, purple rice, green salad and kimchi -The flavor profiles are so robust in this dish from the seaweed powder, remoulade and the tosazu gelee which works perfectly with the poached salmon. The kimchi is just the right amount of sour, spicy, and saltiness. Enjoyed the texture and taste of the purple rice. The salad was nicely dressed with a subtle flavored dressing. A must orde if you like salmon and umami flavors. *Basque cheesecake -This is the best Basque cheesecake out of San Sebastián, Spain. Really great little Korean Fusion place in the middle of Chinatown. We came here several times over our last visit and the standards and quality were excellent. The menu changes monthly, and if you are expecting traditional Korean food, you will be be surprised. The chef puts a modern spin on the ingredients with success. Some of our favorites were the Red Wine Kalbi, and the Truffle Mandoo, and Seaweed Salmon, but as stated the menu changes monthly. Be sure to sit in the backyard patio, it 's like another world and so peaceful. Be sure to say hi to the chickens who will be roaming around back there while you eat. read more

Was in the office downtown and decided to try this place out since it was close and I was craving Korean. The line was super long and out the door around noon since it was lunchtime. There are only a few tables inside and they were all filled. The two workers in the front were waiting tables, running the cashier, and managing takeout orders. There were two cooks in the kitchen working quickly to get many orders out. The line to order went quickly and my order was ready in about 20min. It was packaged really nicely! I really enjoyed their salad. It had a delicious lemon dressing with lemon zest inside! It was so light and had a great flavor. They gave multigrain rice which I loved. The korean chicken was crispy and juicy and had a scrumptious sticky sweet-spicy sauce. It wasn't too spicy, but just enough spice to give it a good flavor. It came with some kimchi (so delicious!), fried brussel sprouts, and fried potatoes. It was so delicious! Best korean food i've had in a while. I was so full after and soooo satisfied. Definitely worth the price. I will definitely be back! Tip: It can get really busy during lunch, so order online or call to order so it is ready once you get there! read more

I'm soo happy I finally got to try O'Kims! I heard soo many great reviews and recommendations about this place! Came here for lunch with my coworkers and we all absolutely loved it! We ordered the bibimbap, Korean chicken, and the truffle mandoo. It was all super delicious! The regular bibimbap has not meat but has soo many flavorful toppings! The mushrooms were my favorite! The Korean chicken is gochujang flavored and the crispness of the chicken was made to perfection! Not too much sauce which is what I also like too. The truffle mandoo is a vegetarian dish and is presented creatively with shoyu jelly and cubes of takuan. The dishes come with homemade kimchee, and I have to say the kimchee here is the best I've ever had. Wish they sold it separately so I can take some home! O'Kims is a korean based restaurant with a hint of fusion. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor atmosphere is really cute decorated with string of lights. The staffs are all very friendly and made out time here enjoyable. Will definitely come back and I can't wait to try more of their dishes. The portions of each dish is really big and we didn't have room for dessert, but i would like to try their popular corn ice cream next time. read more
This place was delicious! I didn't put a single mediocre thing in my mouth. Everything was good quality ingredients, flavorful pairings that worked well together and expertly prepared. The staff were very friendly and gave overall great service. We mostly ordered the November specials because they sounded amazing and I saw lots of enticing photos on IG. We started with the jap chae spring rolls which my friend wanted to try. I wasn't too stoked on the idea of just glass noodles in lumpia wrappers but they were tasty! They were also piping hot and freshly made. The Korean pancake was the beat I've ever had! It was so fluffy and chewy and packed with goodies. The kim chee flavor didn't overpower the rest of it. The octopus and cannelloni beans were good flavors and a unique thing to get at a Korean restaurant. The octopus was cooked a bit too mushy but it was still tasty. The king kalbi was amazing! The meat wasn't overly seasoned with sweet sauce, and it was a quality cut of beef. It had a nice spread of fried garlic chips which were the perfect amount of cooked (I hate burnt garlic!). The shredded green onion gave it some bite when added to the fresh lettuce and eaten in perfect little bites. I'm sad it's a special and not on the regular menu. We had the fried chicken with gnocchi from the regular menu and it was perfectly cooked. The gnocchi tasted like potatoes and it was puffy and chewy. All were perfectly cooked. They gave us a free matcha cake roll since we were celebrating my friend's birthday which was such a nice and generous touch. I especially appreciate their dog friendly policy (we sat outside in the back on a cute covered porch). The staff were lovely and gave her water and didn't act weird or scared bc she's giant sized. read more

It's an additional indoor dining space. So basically you can choose Dining Room to sit inside, Patio for outside. In case Dining Room is not available, choose Box
