We tried several appetizers and everything tasted very fresh and delicious. My favorite has to be the Hamachi or the Otoro spoons! The shishito peppers were very good here too. We also ordered two different rolls, the baked spicy scallop roll and the Marilyn. The scallop roll wasn't really that spicy but it was still delicious and tasted high quality! I liked the Marilyn too but was unsure of the lemon on top. First time for everything though! The service was very attentive and the management is great here! This is a nifty little spot on the Westside that sits as a part of the Barcelona and Upbeet sector. I was so excited to come tryout this rooftop and the sushi dishes. We don't have super stellar sushi restaurants in Atlanta and I was hoping this one would fill the slot. Arrival: As with most Atlanta spots parking is limited. They do have valet but they aren't super speedy Seating: You can do reservations on Open Table, however the rooftop as I learned is first come first serve. They had a variety of seating areas from tables to a standing bar and a lounge area. What was lacking was bug lamps and misters....just a little something to consider since sometime in the Southeastern US can be a big deal. Service: This was pretty decent. We had no particular waiter but while confusing we never went without for long. Food: Survey says....mediocre at best. We tried the Tuna Tartare appetizer, a house salad, and a few rolls along with the Salmon Oscar. While all edible, the food in general was bland at best. Definitely not beating out Umi here. I was a little disappointed as I was hoping for more given the company the restaurant sits in. After looking up top Uni offerings in Atlanta, I discovered The Otoro Spoons from O-KU! Luscious creaminess from the sea! 5 spoons filled with light flavorful Otoro topped with creamy Uni and caviar. I had a Vodka-Lemon-Yuzu something which I really enjoyed. Soon after we were seated and our server greeted us promptly and offered water and introduced himself. I like to visit O-Ku for their happy hour, with my friends. The happy hour has half off of the rolls (no discount on drinks). The decor is nice, the location is great (on the westside in the Howell Mill Provisions corridor,)and the valet is complimentary. My friend and I came here for Galentine's Day! We started with drinks at the bar before sitting at our table. She ordered the amai ready and I had the sugar & spice. Hers was citrusy and refreshing. I really liked mine. It was sweet but balanced out with the habanero vodka! There was definitely a burn to it and the sugared rim made it even better! We started with the hamachi carpaccio. Oh my goshhhh. Amazing. Hands down my favorite dish of the night. My gal had a house salad and the dressing was ginger and super fresh veggies! We split the salmon citrus 1pc roll - just okay. When it comes to sushi, O-ku hits it out of the ball park. Let's talk sushi! I've been craving sushi for a hot minute and, after having recently moved into the area, decided to drop by O-ku on Wednesday night. Between two people, we ordered two appetizers, an assortment of nigiris, a sushi roll, and various speciality sushis. We toasted the meal off with two drinks, the Sakura Cocktail ($13) and Apple Blossom ($12). If you're not much of an alcohol drinker and prefer sweeter drinks, go for the Sakura Cocktail. It has Nigori sake, soju, pamplemousse, lemon and bitters. The Apple Blossom has a bit more of a kick thanks to the whiskey. For our appetizers, we ordered the famed Otoro Spoons ($23) and also the Scallop Tiradito ($16.5). This was my second time ordering Otoro Spoons and my suggestion for anyone ordering would be to not put the whole thing in your mouth! The Otoro, uni and caviar has such great flavor and the sauce it comes with is just too overpowering. Pick the seafood off the spoon and I guarantee you'll love it! The scallop was amazingly fresh and buttery. So creamy! Next came the 12 piece chef's choice of nigiri ($40). I'm not going to pretend to be a fish connoisseur so I'll just leave it at everything was splendid! From what I can remember, we had mackerel, albacore, sea bass, scallop, red snapper, salmon, yellowfin, grouper, etc. We also got the Baja Sushi roll, which is filled with spicy salmon, jalapeno and sriracha (~$15). We topped off the night with several pieces of O-ku's signature nigiri. The Creme de la Creme, an Otoro nigiri topped with truffle shavings and caviar (market price/$14). The Fugo Nigiri, another Otoro nigiri with foie gras, truffle soy, and caviar (market price/$14). We also got the Yakiniku Wagyu ($7). The wagyu was juicy, tender and had the perfect texture. What really blew my mind was the Creme de la Creme and Fugo Nigiri. The flavor is indescribable and, for a second, I thought I could cry. It was THAT good! You can find valet parking by the entrance of the restaurant--no hassle. There is also a rooftop bar but this was closed due to the cold weather. Best sushi experience in Atlanta yet. I've eaten at O-Ku many times but tonight topped them all. Usually we sit on the roof (great views) or at a table but tonight we sat the sushi bar with our friend. The sushi chef behind the bar (i think his name is Jordan) was so nice and gave us tastes of some new menu items. This place has a very expensive aesthetic and the prices match it. We chose to sit on the rooftop and the view of the Atlanta skyline was stunning. We were at the bar and the bartender there was great, however I'm not sure if they were having problems in the kitchen because our food took nearly an hour to arrive after ordering. And once it did arrive it wasn't on par with the impression you get when you first step into the restaurant. I tried their rolled sushi, namely the Firecracker Roll and New Spider Roll, and while they weren't bad there was nothing about them that stood out as truly exceptional, which I would expect given the venue's aesthetic and pricing. I would recommend a place like Brush in Decatur over somewhere like this if you're looking for high quality sushi at a comparable price. I'm torn. I've dined here twice and had 2 completely different experiences. First time was for my birthday in March, we had a party of roughly 20 and we were in a rush to go to Laughing Skull (highly recommend). The food, service and drinks that night were all great. A 4 star experience. We dined inside and the restaurant was slammed but they still managed to provide great service for a large party. Second time was this past Sunday, we sat upstairs on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather and view. It's first come first serve upstairs. With a party of 4 and less than half of the downstairs restaurant full, the service was awful. Not sure what happened, but the upstairs and downstairs are like 2 different restaurants. There weren't that many people and they took forever to clear the table, take drink orders, deliver the drinks etc. We had to go to the bar several times to get someone's attention. That being said, it's still all one restaurant, and management needs to resolve the upstairs patio issue. Sorry for my rant. Onto the FOOD: we ordered 1. Edamame 2. Ceviche Tacos 3. Twist Pepper 4. Black Magic and 5. Yellowtail Crunch*(not sure about that name). Edamame has too much salt on it. Ceviche Tacos were ok, there was way too much water/juice that spewed out when bitten into. The Twist Pepper, Black Magic and Yellowtail Crunch were all wonderful. The Black Magic is very decadent and the flavor is amazing. Definitely recommend this restaurant, but if you're going to eat here please spare yourself the upstairs patio experience. If you must go, go during HH or late night happy hour and eat on the upstairs patio in the summer when it's uncovered. I've been to O-ku 5+ times in the last 2 years since I moved to Atlanta. It's gotten progressively worse each time. This last time I came to celebrate my partner's birthday, and we decided to come on a Friday night when they serve late night happy hour prices after 11pm. Both the hostess and our server wished her a happy birthday and were very nice throughout the night. Our server Dominique was wonderful and deserves five stars. After dinner, she also brought out a cute little mochi ice cream dish as a celebration. The staff and their service are the only reason this review is not 1 star. The food was abysmal, even at the half-off prices. The fish tasted like it was days old and frozen and thawed many times over. Even the vegetable ingredients (avocado, cucumber) tasted poor, and something as essential as wasabi at a sushi restaurant tasted like prepackaged grocery store wasabi. We ordered 6 rolls, and each was as unremarkable as the last. The rolls were heavily doused in sauce which is never a good sign. As much as I wanted to love the food, I could not, and was disappointed that this was the meal I chose to share with my partner on her special day. Unfortunately this will be my last time here or recommending it to a friend. I recommend going to Eight Sushi lounge instead, and spending a little bit more for vastly superior sushi. I first came here for a Yelp event and instantly fell in love by the rooftop deck with an amazing city view. The ownership truly has an eye for style and a heart for helping - they regularly take on charitable causes. And the food was amazing. What more could you want? Good food, good people and great ambiance- nothing to complain about here. But wait... there's more! I've been back a couple times since, and I've discovered a thing or two about this place. There's a grown and sexy vibe on the inside, but it's comfortable as well. The service is extremely friendly and they go out of their way to please. The food is the truth. In terms of rolls, I'm partial to the Black Magic, with lobster and squid ink rice (who thinks of that?). Really though, I fell in love with the impeccably made nigiri . Try them all - so good! The sushi options are limited if you're looking for sushi. I'd say they have maybe half to two-thirds the offerings of a typical sushi restaurant. And their sushi is just okay. To me, it's not worth the wait on a busy night. I visited on a busy Saturday night. Sat at a table on the rooftop, which was surprising comfortable considering it was winter. They heat the area and close it off. The servers were pleasant, but nearly nonexistent during my time there. It took entirely too long to get miso soup, salad, and two special rolls. I had a great experience at O-Ku and their service was great prior to dining and even afterwards! They accommodated my group of 7 without sacrificing the quality of service. I originally made a reservation for 5 via Opentable but when I went to change it to 7, I got a message stating that I couldn't make a reservation for a party that large online. I called the restaurant and they were able to quickly and easily update my reservation for me. I received a courtesy call the day before the reservation reminding me and confirming our attendance. We enjoyed the food a lot. I had the opportunity to try almost everyone's rolls and they were all very tasty! The star of the show for me was the sashimi. So fresh and delicious! I could eat it every day if I could afford it. I actually thought the rolls and sashimi were reasonably priced for the quality. A friend got the cooked salmon entree and mentioned it was a bit undercooked for his preferences (it was medium which is perfect for me so if you prefer it more cooked than that then make sure to let them know). However he said he enjoyed it! They split the bill with no issues which was so pleasant for us as sometimes when we dine we get attitude when asking to get separate checks. A few days after our visit, I received a call from the restaurant following up saying they hoped we had a great dining experience and if there were any issues to let them know... well, O-Ku, I had no issues. The Serrano pepper is spicy but I loved it! We rarely order nigiri but we tried the Inada and the Kani Truffle. I did like one over the other but both were great. We also got the black magic and the flavors just hit the spot! Must order!!! I believe the last roll we got was the dragon and that was also good but will try something different next time. This might just be our go-to sushi spot! I am excited to go back and reorder some of the dishes and also try new ones. This place has some of the best sushi I've ever tasted. Be prepared to pay top dollar for it...My bill was more than $30 for 2 rolls and and some edamame... this was with no drinks. We walked in and maybe 50% of the tables were empty but they wouldn't seat walk-ins because they were all for reservations. After explaining to the manager we were on a quick dinner break and wouldn't take long, he let us have one of the tables. (It was just 2 of us!) Most of the tables weren't full when we left so I thought it was a bit silly they would save basically the entire restaurant and seat zero walk-ins. Anyway, the food was really delicious and the service was good. Maybe I'll try again during happy hour and/or make a reservation next time! read more
