You would not believe that a restaurant like this can be found at an outdoor strip mall. The exterior is very misleading!! When we walked in, we were surprised by the size of the place as well as the decor. There are cool dragons, wooden cutouts and panels, and mood-setting lighting. It was bustling for lunch! Too bad a booth wasn't available at the time. I had this place on my list for over a year and had a feeling that it was Michelin rated---Yup! 1 star. We picked from a pretty big menu based on reviews and the waiter's recommendation. Our waiter was attentive, professional, checked-in regularly, and on point with his recommendations. We started with the bubble scallion pancake. You get 2 in an order. It was pretty filling and tasted like an Indian poori or bhatura. It was not flat and full of veggies as I'm used to. Then we had the dry rubbed ribs. OMG! The best ribs I have ever had! They tasted like fried chicken and the seasoning was incredible. There were bits of chili, garlic, ginger, and scallion sprinkled on. Must have! Next we had the soup dumplings. Again, must have. They were hot and flavorful but some of our soup spilled since they were stuck to one another. I would have liked another dipping sauce other than soy sauce so we got some red chili oil. We decided to pass on the Peking duck and get the whole fried fish instead. We opted for the black bean sauce. It was delicious and convenient to eat since it had no bones! The other entree we picked was the chili hot pot. Wow. This was a winner for sure. It had beef, chicken, and shrimp. Highly recommend!! This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area. The menu is different from most others. Everything I've ever had there is delicious. From their wonton soup, ribs, Dan Dan Noodles to their duck. Everything is cooked to Perfection , seasoned perfectly although sometimes a bit spicy hot. They are happy to soften the heat if you let them know ahead of time. You may think from the outside that it's a silly storefront restaurant but once you walk in you will be pleasantly surprised by the decor inside. I was very surprised that this place is actually good for where it was located but I guess you can't judge a book by its cover! Came with my family and took up the backroom. We ordered the scallion pancakes, duck, twice cooked pork, beef tripe and tendon soup dumplings, and snowpea vegetables. Scallion pancake came out first as expected - man is it so fluffy and pleasing to unfluff when you start to eat and dip it in the thousand dressing looking sauce! Definitely a bit of a middle eastern fusion but it pairs really well. Beef tripe and tendon has always been a classic favourite for me - really can't go wrong there and is a must try. Twice cooked pork is also really good! Pork was nice and tender and has a touch of spiciness for that extra kick of flavor! Peking Duck with pork buns - my husband his family loved it as I'm not a duck eater but they compared it to the Peking duck you'd find in Chinatown so I guess that's a good sign! Soup dumpling - hot, fresh, very flavourful. We loved this as well! If you love soup dumpling, this is something you're going to want to order. Very solid Chinese/American restaurant. I've only ever done take out/delivery etc but the decor/ambience seems nice so I'm looking forward to dining in at some point. Portions are big, food is delicious and the delivery is reliable. They randomly don't deliver sometimes though, so check their website and if you're dying for Chinese you might be either stuck with another place or doing pickup. I really like this place. It is fully staffed , there are always servers passing by asking if we have everything we need; they are very attentive. For appetizers, we ordered the Storm Fish (fried breaded and garnished with spicy peppers) it has a bit of kick to it which we enjoyed. We shared the Sichaun Hot Pot and also the braised beef noodle soup. Both of them spicy... the beef noodle soup has layers of flavors that are well balanced; my favorite dish of the night. The hot pot was good... not the best I've had, but very good nonetheless. It has a medley of protein in it (beef, chicken, fish, shrimp). Been waiting to try this place, so we made a reservation for Saturday evening for a party of 6 the day of. I was surprised I even got one. When we arrived they were very busy; a good sign. There are a lot of things I wanted to try on the menu, but had to order more tame items to cater to the little people with me. The hits: soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, bubble scallion pancake (the dipping sauce was different and delicious), twice cooked pork, mushrooms with bok choy, and beef fried rice. What was just ok? Dan dan noodles and garlic pepper shrimp. I look forward to trying the wontons in chili oil, mapo tofu, dry fried green beens and a fish dish is a must. Came to O Mandarin for a casual weekend lunch without a reservation. The outside looked a little plain but the inside looks nice, spacious, and elegant, with the same decor as the main branch on Long Island. We were seated immediately. The menu is a lot smaller than the one on Long Island but they had some great stuff too. We had the garlic beef, sweet/sour ribs, dan dan noodles, bean sprouts, and soup dumplings. All the food came out so quickly, it was great. Honestly, everything just hit the spot and this is definitely going to be one of our favorite spots in the area now. Although, they did not seem to have a proper dessert menu, when we asked for dessert, the server showed us some random pictures, so it would be nice to have a proper dessert menu because there are a lot of dessert in Chinese food to be proud about. Took a pretty far drive from Connecticut to visit this place while seeing some family over the holidays. I had high expectations for here given their James Beard recognition. The Peking duck is a MUST from here. Our Peking duck was blue which was strange but apparently it's pretty normal haha. The deep fried pork ribs were also delicious and I would also say a must buy. Very disappointing experience today. While we were eating our appetizer of soup dumplings, all of our other dishes arrived together, at the same time! My wife, who is experienced in the restaurant business, refused the food, asking that it be kept warm and brought out after we'd finished the soup dumplings. The server complied, but didn't have a clue as to why that was a problem. We spoke to our waiter about it, and although he was courteous, blamed it on the kitchen mismanaging the timing, which may have been true. Who knows. When the food came out, one dish was cold, the other room temp. The waiter offered to have the kitchen rewok our fish dish, but we knew it would then be overcooked so refused the offer. We decided to leave and take it all home. As we were packing the food, the busboy began clearing the table and removing the utensils we needed to use. We asked him to stop, he ignored us. At our third, loud and obviously angry request, he stopped clearing the table and left. We had observed this "speedy" table clearing at other tables around us, while patrons were attempting to gather their belongings in order to extract themselves from their booth. Pretty simple wines to choose from if you're the type to pair :) servers are attentive, but not overbearing. We started with the jellyfish and cucumber salad which were fresh, crunchy and a definite two thumbs up. The soup dumplings were just right in temperature-- hot but not enough to burn your whole mouth and esophagus, and just the right amount of soup. The star of the show was the fish hot pot--so much fish!! Hot & spicy! Loved it! With some cabbage, mushrooms, bok choy, mung bean noodles on the bottom. Our least favorite was the shrimp and rice cracker dish. Shrimps were delicious with good portions, but we regretted getting the rice crackers. I had a wonderful experience here. I tried this restaurant again for lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I started off with the hot and sour soup, and the Mongolian beef lunch special. My friend got the Kung pao chicken, and we also got a side order of spareribs. The soup was piping hot, extremely spicy and amazing. The spareribs were flavorful in a rich soy type of sauce. The entrées were great, the Kung pao had a nice spice to it and was very fresh with crisp peanuts. I absolutely loved the Mongolian beef, which was so tender, melt in your mouth perfect. It was in a wonderful sauce and had great flavor. The service was wonderful, and the waiter was very friendly and Offered up suggestions when asked. I thoroughly enjoyed this lunch experience. Based on friends experiences we figured we would give it a shot since we were in the area. We walked in and were seated promptly. Our waiter (I believe his name started with a B), was very friendly and welcoming. We started with appetizers; ribs and pan fried vegetable dumplings. They were both really good. Then my friend texted me and told me I had to order the soup dumplings, so I did. He explained to us how to eat them, so we wouldn't burn our mouths. They were good. For dinner my son had the sesame chicken and I had the scallion and steaks for we shared a pineapple fried rice with chicken. I did request very little onions, but it still had a lot of onions in it. This wasn't your typical corner Chinese takeout. It was authentic Chinese cuisine, not Americanized Chinese. Everything we ordered was delicious! Several months later and we've quickly become a regular. We still haven't dined in but since indoor dining reopened in Westchester, they've been fairly busy each time we pickup food. The restaurant was packed with people and the waiting seats were occupied. There was no space for my kids and my wife in the waiting room. So the kids shared an empty seat on the bar while my wife was standing next to them. The restaurant owner asked the kids to leave the bar seat. But there was no space in the waiting room at all. This is one of my favorite restaurants of the year so far! We got the grandma'a steam bun which was like a 4 make your own bao buns. We did the chicken version and it was so good and fun to do. First thing you do...make a reservation. The place is always very busy...but that's a good thing. There's tons of parking out front in the lot. Last time we were there, we made our reservations in advance and we were seated promptly. The waitress was kind, friendly and always had a smile. The ambiance is very authentic in appearance (or what seems to be). Very cool and unique atmosphere. Me and my girl started off the meal with 2 bowls of their hot and sour soup...which tasted great and wasn't too hot. We also ordered some soup dumplings which were served hot on a bamboo stacker. Very delicious. For drinks we both had a couple seltzers with lemon. For our main course I ordered the O Mandarin duck and my girl ordered the sesame chicken dish. We also got some smoked duck fried rice and stir-fried string beans on the side. Everything was cooked great and tasted awesome! After having eaten here for several years, I now have mixed reviews of the place. Stopped in last night for a date night, and ordered scallion pancake, soup dumplings and Sichuan Wonton, then the Sichuan Hot Pot to share. Other than the wontons being luke warm, the apps were fine and as expected. But the hot pot, oh man. There was so much salt that it was simply inedible. We took it home and I tried to desalinize it with potatoes, to no avail. Previous experiences with mains (porkbelly, thousand year tofu and Gen Tso come to mind) were mostly positive (say, 4/5), but stay away from the Sichuan Pepper entree as it suffers from the same salt problem. Ambiance is nice, staff are pleasant. Prices are a bit high, and that makes it all the more frustrating when they ruin a dish with so much salt. (On saltiness, please note, this is not an exaggeration - the amount of salt actually dries your mouth, numbs your tongue and leaves an odd metallic aftertaste.) read more

By far my absolute favorite authentic sit down Chinese restaurant in New York. Tucked away in the hartsdale h Mart plaza one wouldn't ever notice this being there but glad I managed to see it and stop in. You would absolutely have to experience this place in person. Opulence would describe the way the place is appointed from its furnishings to its menu. I would have to say you bring at least four or five of your best friends and do this menu proper Justice. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and can easily guide you through if you are intimidated by what's offered. This isn't your run-of-the-mill Chinese food fair. Omandarin is located on a strip mall but once you enter through their doors, the ambiance ramps up to a 10. Amazing decor and the mood lighting wasn't too dark. We came around 5 and the place was pretty packed. We were seated immediately and menus were handed out. The food came out around 20-25 mins, not bad at all especially considering they almost had a full house. The fish was problematic to say the least. The meat was cut up small and along with the veggies that were also cut small, it was hard to distinguish which was which. It was a 2.5/5. The crispy ribs on the other hand was great. Nice and crispy and not oily at all. It was slightly spicy too which was nice, a 4/5. The duck was the best thing we had. Crispy and not greasy, the meat was tender and flavourful too. 5/5.
