We decided to check out this pub for a football game and ended up having a fun time during their bingo night. This place gets two stars because of their limited selection of beer and their food was far from fresh. My chicken tenders were covered with white lint (Not sure why) but I ended up sending them back but later ordering it again hoping they corrected the issue but more so because I was starving. O'Sully's as we call it, is a unpretentious yet vibrant Irish bar in the heart of Clarendon, beaming with live music and Guinness. Pre-pandemic you could often find us here on the weekends listening to some local band and vibing out. We were recently able to return during pandemic times on Saint Patrick's Day and man, did we miss it. Everything was running quite smoothly, socially distanced and such, and the service was great. Everyone is sitting at a table to no more moving and grooving to the live music up close but still happy to have a place that does have some live music on Friday. The food selection isn't bad itself, with the potato soup and the Rueben being some of my favorites (honorable mention for Shepards pie, pretzel bites) as well. Welcome back to Virginia... This might have been the first thing that came out the boy's mouth when I dropped by the AMSA office after trivia here: "Hm. Smoky." Yeah. That pretty much sums up O'Sullivan's. I could smell the reek of it all over myself for the next couple hours while we both kept working. Gross. Okay, so outside of the fact that it smells like ew in there, the food was pretty spectacularly disappointing. With a capital D. How do you screw up fish 'n' chips?! Seriously. Purchase edible white fish. Bread fish. Fry fish. Serve. Not rocket science, right? I don't know what horrors went on in the kitchen, but the order that Alicia and I shared was startlingly bad. If I hadn't been trained by my parental units to always finish the food on my plate, I would have given up after two bites. Instead, I think I killed my piece of fish. The crust was -soggy-! Soggy! And it didn't stick to the fish at all... in fact, part way through using the side of my fork to chunk apart the... food item, the fish slipped entirely out of the breading pocket. Hell. Oh. And the cole slaw was bland and boring. With... again... soggy cabbage. No crunch? Bleeeehhh. The upside? It was the deal of the day, so it ran something like $5 or so. I don't know what possessed us to try something else after that awful experience. Oh wait. That's right. Alicia was still hungry because she consumed even -less- of her fish. So we got the nachos. Again, hard to jack up - right? Purchase chips, put melted cheese, meat, and dips on top, then serve. Right? This was my first time at O'Sullivan's Power Hour. It happens the first Friday of every month and I had missed it the past few months due to traveling. I had heard nothing but great things about it so i was really excited. When we got there, we all went straight to the bar to get our own bucket - 6 beers. I think it was like $24 or $28. Not quite sure, but not the worst deal. We headed back to where the live music would be playing and settled in to our spot for the night. Unfortunately, we had heard that the band that used to play power hour was gone and there was a new act. It ended up being pretty meh. It was basically one dude with an acoustic guitar with some background music to sing over. He more or less led the crowd in some 90's songs which felt very summer camp-ish. It was a little disappointing to be honest. I'm not sure if I'd go back for power hour but I could definitely see myself going back for more drinks at O'Sullivan's! read more

I understand that they have the right to refuse service to anyone, and if they think someone is disruptive then they need to intervene, but on Saturday my friend and I were literally just dancing by our table to the band and they abruptly confronted us and kicked us out with no explanation whatsoever. Went here every single night, except one, on my business trip during the first week of April. It ebbs and flows with patrons, mainly because they have no cover and my local friends LOVE this place. (WHY would girls pay a cover to get into a place, is beyond me... and I live in Las Vegas, the land of cover charges.) We finally get his attention to order and the bartender starts off the service by asking if we are ok (second place we've been too, have had one drink). We asked for a drink, which we knew was not from the well, watch the bartender pour our drinks from the well liquor on the other end of the bar thinking our view was partially obscured. Not wanting to be confrontation, after delivering we asked the bartender what he poured. He was immediately defensive asking us, " what do you think i'm trying to do", and telling us if we didn't want to drink what he poured he would cancel the order w/in two business days and we could take our business elsewhere. Being immediately abraded with this attitude needless to say did not start the birthday celebration on the right note. Disappointing at best. Stopped by after the Clarendon Mardi Gras Parade. I was impressed with the recent renovations they completed. Now they have 2 main bar areas, one on the original side and the second on the new/expanded side, and also plenty of space for sit down dining and a large room in between. Tuesday night they have karaoke. Folks were having a lot of fun singing. The service was good. The waiter was able to handle a very large group and was pretty quick with the service. Bartender on the new expanded side was also very polite and upbeat. Although I have not eaten here, one friend ordered a salad of some sort which looked great, and another ordered spinach dip and bread appetizer. Prior to the pandemic, I traveled all over the US for work and I always made it a point to visit (or coerce my coworkers to visit) an Irish pub. I've been to Irish pubs in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, and more. O'Sullivan's, after just one visit, jumped to my favorite in the US. The food is truly amazing, the soda bread as good as I've gotten in Ireland itself, and the staff even better. They're friendly, fun, and amazing people. I guess the fans bring in money, but seeing full grown adults wearing their team jerseys yelling and cursing at referees for 4 hours straight is not really what I go to an Irish pub for. Update: Nice owner replied and maybe I just unknowingly visited on game days. It's the obnoxious sports fans that detract from the experience, not the location itself or the staff, who have always been friendly. Maybe do rugby, or when the Steelers aren't on (this is a Steeler haunt), restrict the other team games to one half of the bar (there are two areas). read more

This is without a doubt one of my favorites in Clarendon. It's one of the less college - like and insanely crowded ones, and is huge. There are at least different rooms and tons of seating. The tiny little blonde server I had once during happy hour wasn't the most knowledgeable so she kept running back and forth to answer our questions, but ultimately got our food and drink orders correct. I suggest ordering Sully's sliders- well cooked and very flavorful. They can add anything you'd like to them too. Eating them made me feel the urge to order fries, but those weren't as tasty as I'd hoped. The happy hour scene is much more chill than the night crowd, so this is a great place to actually be able to talk to someone and hear what they have to say. The servers here are among the best in the DMV. I've come to know many of them through my attempts to support the local area bars/restaurants. The two only problems that I have with this bar are the music and the food. The bands are not bands but rather plug-in acoustic cover-the-hits-bros. (Yes, I'd love to hear your version of Lightning Crashes and Devil Went Down To Georgia again...). This can't be the best we have to offer in this town???!!! There are certainly plenty of talented musicians in the area that deserve a chance to show their talent over this Saturday night ass-clown. A large hungover group trying to find a brunch cure landed here over the weekend. The diner across the street had a line out the door, so we settled for an immediate fix. There's a brunch buffet here for $16.99 with bottomless coffee included. Well, even hungover, the food was disappointing. There were some favorites among the group: chicken fingers, the roast (surprisingly), and mac and cheese. There were standard options such as scrambled eggs, sausages, and bacon that all tasted a bit microwaved. Though there were also renditions of brunch foods like corned beef hash, eggs Benedict, and biscuits and gravy. The service was the saving grace here. As a meetup organizer, I am always looking for new events to attend with my crew. I found out that O'Sullivans offers FREE bar bingo, and decided we had to go. The bingo ended up being a blast and highly recommend that you try it sometime! I am amazed at their outstanding customer service throughout the night. We started out with just a few girls, but it quickly crew and the staff were more than accommodating to us-moving tables from another room, adding chairs, everything to make the area that I chose to sit in work which we really appreciated it. As far as food, we got your typical bar food-wings, cheese fries, some of us got dessert-it was all amazing. It came out hot and fast and the portions were great for the prices we paid. Our server Matthew though, he gets his own paragraph. He was fantastic! Seriously, if you come here and sit down, you should make sure you request him! Our drinks were never empty, constantly refilled our water cups, and was always quick with bringing food out/letting us know important details/etc. The fact that our party size grew also didn't seem to bother him at all, which is great. I came here for their weekly Bingo Night on Sunday nights. The service all night wasn't that great. At the beginning of the night, we had to track down a waiter just to get menus and waters. During our meal, the waiter came back waaay too frequently asking if we were finished with our food. The food was alright-nothing to rave about, I ordered the Chicken Bacon Club with fries which was I think around $11. They had a pretty weak Happy Hour special as well- 3.5 for domestic beers and then 5 for house wines. Other than bingo, don't know if there was anything here that would make me go back.
