We needed some food quick! And something cold to cool us down. An Angus McCurdy's just opened up over at Parrish Ranch, so we figured it was time to roll out and get grub. I ordered a BLT, but looked across the way and saw ice cream. Oak Glen Creamery? Oak Glen has ice cream? Screw this BLT. Good luck with life, BLT. I'm out. Made a dash for the ice cream. Ahhhhh. That pure, fresh, wholesome ice cream taste known to Straus. No stabilizers, no gums/additives/fillers, no artificial flavors/dyes/bullshit. No GMO, growth hormone, antibiotic cow milk made ice cream. Just natural tasting perfect ice cream for a less than perfect world. And though they don't make the ice cream in-house (Straus does the work), they have a gang of toppings to send your ice cream over the edge. What a pleasant surprise in Oak Glen. The Oak Glen Creamery is the best example of a "hole in the wall" place I've ever seen. This little gem is tucked in the back corner of the newly opened Angus McCurdy's Restaurant and Bakery in Oak Glen's Parrish Ranch, and it's one of those places you'll probably never find unless someone tells you where it is. We stumbled on it totally by accident, and I'm so very glad we did! The Oak Glen Creamery specializes in ice cream and shakes. Well, maybe "specializes" isn't quite the right term - ice cream and shakes is literally ALL that they do. But hey, when your product is as exceptional as theirs, why do anything else? We tried samples of their Brown Sugar Banana and Carmel Toffee Crunch ice cream offerings, and both were truly luscious. However, we knew we had to go for one of their signature "pie shakes." For the uneducated, an Oak Glen Creamery "pie shake" is a truly amazing concoction. It comes in two flavors: apple and pumpkin. We chose the pumpkin and watched as the magic unfolded in front of us... First into the mixer went several scoops of vanilla ice cream, followed by some half and half. Then came several large chunks of pumpkin pie. (Yes, actual pumpkin pie including the crust!) This was mixed at low speed, blending the flavors perfectly but leaving large pieces of the crust intact The mixture was then poured into a cup and topped with whipped cream and pumpkin pie spice. We walked in and ordered from the Angus McCurdy's counter. Waited for our order in the dessert station area only to find that they no longer make their own ice cream here anymore. The attendant opened the silver and white old school freezer and pulled out a Blue Bunny lid to scoop the first of our order. When I saw that lid, I asked if they make their own ice cream because I was only there because I thought I was getting home made ice cream made with Strauss Family organic cream. She indicated that they do not make their own ice cream. The vanilla bean ice cream was okay. Strawberry was artificial tasting. I can't imagine any crazy person making rainbow sherbet. So big fail, here. Not sure if they can still consider themselves Oak Glen Creamery. read more

It TRULY saddens me to leave such a negative review for this place, but I honestly did not have a good experience. I love ice cream. I mean LOVE it. A lot. When I found out there was a new spot that opened up (in Oak Glen even!) I had to check it out. I heard it was by the new Angus McCurdy's at Parrish Ranch but I didn't exactly know how close...well, it's literally a very small corner located INSIDE of the building that house's Angus McCurdy's. The ice cream here is not made in house; instead they use Straus organic ice cream. That's alright by me, but here's where the story begins... After I finished my meal at Angus McCurdy's I knew I wanted to try the ice cream here, so I approached the counter to order. It was about 11:50 am at this time. I guess you have to order all from the same counter and there was a different gal working there than the one that took my food order originally. They advertise on their menu a Regular ($4) and a Large ($6). I tried to ask the gall what the scoop size difference was between the two options. She seemed perplexed by my inquiry at first before explaining a regular was one scoop and a large was two. Ok, that was perfect because there were two specific flavors I wanted to try. I ordered a large w/ Dutch Chocolate and Toffee Caramel Crunch. I noticed they offered several toppings (according to their menu board) and asked about those and was told that it came with one free topping. Sweet. I went w/ the Brown Sugar Bacon. After I paid she gave me a number to take to my table. Uh, what? It's ice cream and I'm literally the only person that is ordering it right now so why do I need this? I took it back to the table and waited. And waited... When it arrived at my table I noticed there was no chocolate ice cream and there was bananas on top of this. Um, what is this? "I think I messed up on your order; I gave you two scoops of Brown Sugar Banana" she admitted. I reminded her what my order actually was and she disappeared. So I waited. And waited... She comes back again and this time I see chocolate but where's my bacon topping? "Oh, I put the bacon on the side." Why? Why would you do that? Did I ask for it to be put on the side? "Where's my toffee caramel?" I asked. "I put the caramel on top." What? Why? I asked not for caramel topping. "No, the toffee caramel crunch ice cream. I asked for a scoop of Dutch chocolate and a scoop of toffee caramel crunch." "Oh," she replied "we don't have the toffee so I gave you two scoops of the chocolate." Why?! Why are you doing this to me?! I'm sorry, I guess it's my fault I didn't realize this place is called "Hi there, we're gonna serve you whatever the eff we feel like and expect you to like it and if you don't we'll say 'you mad, bro?' creamery". Seriously, wtf. I conceded: "can I just get a refund? This is not what I ordered and I've waited too long already." Then she tried to pawn off her mistakes by saying that the normal staff that serves the ice cream only works on the weekends and that she has not received proper training to do so. Soooooo, I got my refund and I got the hell outta there. It was about 12:10 at this point. What did I learn based on my visit here? *Even though there is only 6 flavors of ice cream, it is confusing to remember who ordered what...even if there is only 1 customer *To obtain the ice cream necessary to complete an order, the process must begin with leading a cow into the back and milking it to obtain the freshest ingredients possible because that's how long you might have to wait for it *They will show utter disrespect and contempt for you by placing ice cream toppings on the side based on the assumption that they must know best even though it wasn't requested that way *They will ultimately do what they want and pass the buck. Why? Because eff you, that's why This experience hurt my ice cream loving soul and even though this place sounded great and as much as I wanted to like it, I will most likely never return based on this horrendous first impression. read more

The fudge was delicious. But $18 a pound so just be prepared. I should of paid better attention to the $$ in review. Ice cream was NOT special and $3.99 for single scoop!!!! The shop is cute but not clearly marked or distinguished and just mixed in with Parrish Ranch. Overall I think 3 stars is generous. Definitely not worth going out of the way for. read more
