Mary McCoy was amazing! I slept on my neck in a strange way and had a crick going for like five days. She was gentle, strong, present, aware, and knew how to work the areas around my neck to release the tension. To be honest, I've had about a dozen or so massages and this was the first time I felt like the massage actually had a therapeutic component. Mary's knowledge of the anatomy is obvious as your session progresses, as she is able to pick up on (bad) habits and postures just from feeling your muscles and bones. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is serious about getting a heavy handed, therapeutic massage from someone who knows what they're doing. I love Oak Haven! I have been coming here for ~18 months now, and absolutely love it! I love that I can book an appointment same day, and there's always plenty of staff to get you checked in and out quickly! Since I often book last minute appointments, I have had a variety of therapists, and although each therapist has their own strengths, all were very attentive to my concerns, and I've always left feeling much better (and usually more relaxed). I am currently expecting my second child, and Eddie was recommended for prenatal massages. They call him the Baby Whisperer, and for good reason! Eddie is extremely knowledgeable and skilled for prenatal care in general, and worked wonders on all my aching areas thanks to a shifting center of gravity:) I've also asked him to address a non-pregnancy related strain as well, and was shocked at the immediate relief I felt as soon as I got up from the massage table. Have had the greatest massages here by Marie who is part of the upper echelon Therapists. I've experienced several massages in the past, from high priced resort spas to the clinical type of massage therapy. This spot isn't a fancy get-away but it did offer chiropractic services at one time so it does lend to a medical office feel, but remember it is massage THERAPY. Went in for my first visit today. What a great masseuse I had in Mark today!! He was absolutely wonderful and worked me really well. I feel so much better than I did going in today. I will say that if you like to have quiet time during your massage, then mark is your guy. He barely made a sound...... Personally, I prefer some talk, but can be ok with quiet too. The whole experience was very nice and I was able to make an appointment quickly online and they even had pictures of their therapists on the site. Kwesi is my favorite but I just found out that he no longer works here anymore which really sucks :( Honestly, he is the reason I am giving this place 4 stars at all because otherwise, this place isn't as great as others I've been to. I'm used to being treated like royalty when i go to get a massage. I love places that have calming rooms where you wait for your masseuse/ masseur, while you wait you usually have a wide variety of drink option including complimentary wine or tea..etc. but this place does not have such a thing. You will feel like you're at a horrid doctor's office then not even given time to finish your paperwork, so the therapist doesnt even thoroughly ensure things are at proper speed (not Kwesi though, he did everything perfectly). Plus, when they have you turn over onto your back, they dont offer anything to cover your eyes from the bright lights they have. They also dont have scented oils to help you relax more and they dont give you water to rehydrate afterwards. The women here are also weak. read more

A stellar setup with highly skilled practitioners and no membership. I loved their business model. But nothing will save this place for me after finding a little curly black hair in the tub of lotion my massage therapist was going to use to massage me. This means she not only will dip her hands into it time and time again during my massage..but I would have had the joy of having someone else's bacteria, hair and other skin secretions skillfully worked into my aching body. There is no way to sanitize lotion like this. As I left the building, I peered into other open treatment rooms and saw a few more similar tubs sitting on their counter tops. 5 stars for the business model...sunk to 1 star for the complete lack of disregard of health standards. By the way, I am also a therapist and I used to send my overflow clientele to Oak Haven. I have had clients come back thanking me for sending them there. They loved their massages! But I can't overlook the neglect here...so upsetting. read more

Well, I just mentioned that I got a FOURTY minutes massage, not even a FIFTY minute massage, besides, like I mentioned, they have a BIG sign out there, ''39 DOLLARS FOR AN HOUR OF MASSAGE''. Ever since I played Moving Man to the parents a few times, my back has reminded me that I'm not the indestructible tomboy that I once was. Repeatedly. So I'm always on the search for a skilled, yet affordable massage therapist. Not an easy find. Someone told me about this place, and I thought they sounded almost too good to be true. No membership, regularly priced $46/hour massage ($39 first-time), experienced therapists? The place I'd been going required a membership and had a constant turnover of inexperienced therapists. But I tried them out, and let's just say...shhh...I canceled my membership at the other place and haven't been back! Oak Haven is owned by a chiropractor from LA who moved to San Antonio (beats me why) and then saw the dearth of natural health services offered there. So this north Austin location is his second location. The first is in San Antonio. He comes in one or two days a week to perform chiropractic adjustments for clients who want them, and he'll add one on to your massage or do it separately, for a price so affordable, it can't be advertised here. But seriously: $20 by itself, or $15 added on to the end of your massage, which has worked just fine for me. If you want him to do more than a quickie crunch, it's $45. I think that's about my co-pay on my insurance. Their website lists the therapists, their qualifications, and specialty areas, so when you call to make your appointment, you have an idea of who you're getting. Every therapist I've had there has been experienced, and they always ask for feedback and do just what I want to help me get and stay pain-free. If you want a relaxation massage, they will do that, but all the ones I've seen are skilled and intuitive therapeutic massage therapists as well. They offer an incredible variety of modalities, including Thai and Shiatsu massage. They also seem to offer a decent amount of discounts and special purchase opportunities. Just talking about it is making me want to book another appointment. Maybe they should call it Oak Heaven. Is that too cheesy? Probably. Just remember to tip your massage therapist. Good ones are hard to keep, and unfortunately, the receptionists won't remind you. The only other criticism I have is that a one-hour massage is really 50 minutes, because they book them back to back and have to prep the room. They tell you that up front, but it's a still a bummer when it ends. read more

I have been having a lot of neck and shoulder pain. I never...ever... get massages. I was in Austin visiting the family, and saw the poor people with the "$29 1-hour massage special" signs outside. So, I went in to check it out. The girl at the front desk was very nice, and very professional. She told me their hours, and I asked when the latest same-day appointment was. They had a 5:00pm, so I took that. She told me my therapist would be a male, and asked if I was ok with that. I didn't mind at all--in fact, I wanted a very hard-pressure massage--so I was excited. I think it's important that they ask their clients how they feel about having a male--so I'm glad they did--even though I personally didn't care. I spoke to my mom, and told her what I was going to do---she decided to come, too. called them, they had another appointment available, so she got it! I had Phillip---he was very nice and professional. I told him exactly what I wanted "beat me up--I'm sore!!!" He used A LOT of pressure--but constantly checked to make sure that I wasn't in pain. The next day--I was hurting!!! But it was like the burn after a good workout--hurts the day after, but you know it's gonna be better in the long run! I would definitely recommend Phillip--he has large hands and was able to provide a lot of pressure!!!! It was fabulous!!! read more

I'm not a massage person. In fact, I hate them. However, my shoulder had been killing me for weeks (possibly due to an overstuffed purse...) and I had to get it taken care of. Luckily, I was recommended to Oak Haven and within 2-3 weeks, I was as good as new. Seriously, this place is awesome. I had 3 different therapists (shout out Ivan, Rhonda, and Beth!) and they were all fantastic. They also gave me very good tips for what I can do at home to heal me faster. Obviously, since it was a therapeutic massage, it was uncomfortable at times and definitely left me sore but I was willing to take the pain to fix up my shoulder. I also love that the place is clean with nice rooms and calming vibes. There are different levels of therapists which decides the price point but in my opinion, prices are reasonable. (I had wondered it if was going to turn out to be one of those Massage Envy sort of franchise joints). Luck of the draw assigned me to Trace - AMAZING! Most definitely in my top 5 of massages.
