Oakobing has been on my LA bookmarks for several years, and this year I finally made it! Unfortunately, my experience was embarrassed disappointment. Mainly, I'm a fan of naturally made fresh fruit shaved ice, and Oakobing doesn't satisfy that requirement. Additionally, I prefer less sweet desserts, and this taste also registered at an above average level, even without the condensed milk. It was like artificial sweetener and dye already integrated into the ice block. The people saying it's not that sweet are accustomed to LA tastebuds, I guess. Back in NorCal, our desserts are definitely not as sweet as LA desserts, as well as boba, I've experienced. Yes, the snow is delicate and soft, I'll give it that. But those artificial syrups, dyes, and sweeteners are almost inedible to me. That, and the fruits weren't near ripe. In fact, the fruits were pre-frozen, which is not a good thing. I thought I was imagining things, but the second one I tried also exhibited the artificiality despite being a matcha base (how does that even happen?). I felt bad because the service was very nice, but I struggled eating it because I disliked the taste; I just didn't want to waste food and effort. We did metered street parking, which didn't seem to be as bad to obtain as it could have been around this area.There are some chain bingsoo places in other parts of LA that I much preferred over Oakobing. My bar for shaved ice is Island Vintage Shave Ice in Hawaii, and MandRo Teahouse in NorCal by the way.
This place was soooo busy but it was a Friday night. But after tasting my Mango Melon Shaved Ice I understood the hype. It was fresh, refreshing, and delicious. Sweet but not too sweet (which is the best compliment for Asian desserts). Seating was a challenge with it being busy but we found a separate back room area and lucked out. They also have onsite parking behind the shop.
8.5/10 Got the mango bingsu. Really delicious and the perfect dessert after dinner. Great mango flavor and the condensed milk on the side is always a great touch. I'd definitely come back to try other flavors.
The very first time I had Korean-style shaved ice, Bingsu was in Shin-Ookubo, Japan 2 years ago. I loved it so much and had been wanting to have it again. And if you're in LA, you can! My son recommended Oakobing and my wish was finally granted! It was pretty late at night and we didn't think we could handle the regular size so the three of us shared two small ones. We ordered the Mango Melon and the Injeolmi. I was a little disappointed with the Mango Melon. I really couldn't taste much mango, and unfortunately, the melon balls weren't quite ripe so they weren't sweet at all. Overall, it was lacking both flavor and sweetness. I enjoyed the Injeolmi much more! Both came with a side of milk drizzle. I believe it was condensed milk, but it was much thinner than regular condensed milk. I actually could have used a little more of it! Even though it was late at night, the place was still very busy. If we get a chance to go back, I'd definitely like to try some of their other flavors!
Love it here! After a late dinner, we always somehow find ourselves at Oakobing It's basically the Asian version of a raspado, but taken to another level! The shaved ice comes in so many delicious flavors, and there are so many fun ways to mix it up with condensed milk, caramel, fresh fruit, and all kinds of toppings. It's light, refreshing, sweet, and perfect when you want dessert without something super heavy. Definitely one of our favorite late-night dessert spots!
This was a great shaved ice spot, although the interior of the dessert spot was a bit worn down, humid, and smelled funny. You order digitally and wait for the worker to call your name. We ordered the melon shaved ice and the yak-gwa special. I liked the special as it contained mochi and the shaved ice was nice and milky. The melon shaved ice was also fruity and refreshing. It was interesting that it came with evaporated milk as I normally have shaved ice with condensed milk, but it made sense as the shaved ice was already quite sweet. Was definitely worth a try - hope they figure out the ventilation as it was quite stuffy in there.
The fans or the AC weren't on when we came by one evening. There was a lot of people that were inside, but we were able to lineup. The line didn't take too long. You can order at the kiosk and there are two kiosks working at a time. Despite how long the wait was to order, I feel like the staff were very efficient and made our bingsoo orders very quickly! We ate from the strawberry bingsoo and the mango bingsoo and dined inside. The matcha latte was very strong matcha-flavored & had a good anount of shaved ice ontop as well. Once you get the bingsoo, the feeling of the heat goes away. I am in love with this dessert because it is perfect for the summer nights and they do not taste overly sweet. Eating bingsoo feels refreshing! This is a good spot. A lot of people come here and hang out. There is also a back area hallway that leads into more tables but there was stuffy air in there. Overall, it was great, but the hot air made us uncomfortable to stay inside. I wish they had working AC for better comfort. Everyone finishes quick and leaves.
So glad I got to try this place today. They open at 1pm and we got there just as it opened. No one in line on a Monday Afternoon. It's really good that they have small and large sizes to choose from. I ordered the single size which is perfect. The mango melon is very refreshing and just perfect.
Came here after having KBBQ and wanted something light and refreshing for dessert! We came around 7PM and there was a short line but it moved fast. The inside can get pretty stuffy but there's some extra seating all the way in the back! For a group of 6, we got two regular sized orders to share. I really loved the Injeonmi flavor! You could really taste the soybean powder and the mochi paired so well with it. The condensed milk was also the perfect sweetness to add to the ice which wasn't that sweet. Unfortunately I didn't love the mango as much. I had high expectations but the mango ice tasted a little artificial and was too sweet. The fresh mango pieces were good though! Overall I thought it was a solid dessert spot but nothing really stood out.
This is still my favorite bingsu cafe and I will continue to come by when I'm in the area! They have plenty of seating snd their bingsu is delicious. My favorite flavors are their melon and mango. This time we decided to try the strawberry matcha and it was good too! Perfect for the summer and service is always quick and friendly :) There's a parking garage so parking is not bad at all!
This is a dessert spot in k town that I've been wanting to try for a while and it was a hot day so why not today. We ordered the mango melon shaved ice. The melon balls melt easy in your mouth and the mango shavings add a nice texture. I really like how the shaved ice comes in an actual melon. It also came with this milk/cream that you can pour on top which makes it really creamy. I love how overall the dessert isn't too sweet and it's very refreshing. In terms of portions, the large shaved ice is really huge. It's good for 2-4 people. They also have mini sizes available if you're solo or just don't want to share lol. Ordering here is really easy. They have two kiosks in the front where you can order from and pick up when it's ready. They have a decent amount of available seating, however it does tend to get packed pretty quickly. Luckily we were able to grab a table. I'll definitely be back to try more flavors. Try it out if you like. :)
After a delicious lunch, my niece and I were on a mission for desserts. This location of Oakobing is in Koreatown was within walking distance so we decided to check it out. For those driving here, we did notice it was connected to small parking structure. Upon entering the front, there were 2 kiosks. We had no interaction with staff. There was no customization with the selections and there was no one to ask. For instance the mango shaved snow came with the melon. I wanted the strawberry shaved snow with the melon balls but they didn't have that option. When you order additional toppings, they leave it on the side. Not visually appealing at all. My niece and I shared the Strawberry Shaved Ice ($18.99) and added Mochi ($2.50) and Melon Balls ($4.25). After you order from the kiosk, you seat yourself and they'll call your number when your order ready. I really like their shaved ice here because the ice is creamy and flavored before they shave it so it's extra flavorful and creamy. It's just really expensive for what it is and especially pricey when you want additional ingredients. Most other shaved ice businesses will allow multiple ingredients for a portion of the cost. One thing that was weird is how it came in a plate instead of a bowl shaped container. Eat quick and make sure it doesn't tip over. I'm so torn because I like the product after the addition of more toppings, but I'm not sure it's worth the price. Also no staff interaction and lacking customization makes my experience as a customer frustrating and limited. Not sure if I would come back.
Sooo good and portions are huge. My boyfriend and i made the mistake of getting one small and one large--DO NOT BE FOOLED, a large is MORE than enough for two people lol The only thing that kinda sucks is that for both the small and the large, they each get the same amount of sweetened milk to pour over the top. I feel like the large should get a bigger portion but idk maybe that's just me. It also sucks because if you want more of the milk topping you have to pay extra, sooo :/ Otherwise, I loved it and I'll definitely be back to try the other flavors!
I was out with friends to celebrate a birthday and we wanted to try a new dessert and stumbled upon Oakobing. We ordered singles: mango melon, Oreo tiramisu, and green tea. The ice held a soft, light texture and was somewhat creamy. I appreciated the enjoyable green tea flavor - not overbearing or bitter with a hint of balanced sweetness. I didn't like the mochi (it lacked flavor) or the overly sweet milk drizzle - it overpowered the green tea. The mango flavor is quite light, but the Oreo tiramisu was present and even better with the coffee drizzle! The store became quite crowded and people were standing in the walkway, standing uncomfortably close to those of us who were seated. Unfortunately our tables were not cleaned well, which is noticeable when sitting down to eat. The paint could benefit from a refresh and it would be helpful to cut down on the long line for the women's restroom. While the dessert tasted delicious, the store itself needed a good, deep clean for me to feel comfortable returning. read more

I got there around 2pm. It's crowded but no line. The place is small and packed. Luckily, I got to sit down and able to relax while eating my dessert. Staff are very busy. Avoiding eye contact and just focus on their job. It has a funky scent. Not a good one. I got the single mango with melon and injolmi. Both are very good. Maybe next time I'll just get it for Togo. If you can't get anywhere to park, they have a valet Parking for $5. read more
Long lines always, hard to find parking, never any tables, super loud.. but hey, you can't beat great shaved ice on a hot summer day. I've always came after dinner, so even just ordering a single size is a great one to share with someone! read more

I've been wanting to try Oakobing for a while and finally got the chance recently. I love bingsu and this place looked so good! We got the melon one to share between 3 people, and it ended up being the perfect size. Their ordering system is super efficient, you order at the kiosk and they call your number when it's ready. The space is on the smaller side, so finding a seat can be a bit of a challenge. It's first come, first serve, so people can get a little aggressive about grabbing tables. But overall, it's a solid dessert spot in Ktown and I'd definitely come back! read more

Always super busy and can be hard to find seating, but worth the wait. The melon is good -- small size is perfect for sharing, while the large can be too ice-heavy compared to the toppings. I actually liked the Injeolmi more than the signature melon. After trying nearly all the flavors, Injeolmi is my favorite -- the mochi adds a great texture to the shaved ice. read more
Bingsoo place with large portions! We went here after dinner and it was fairly busy, and it gets tricky since you pay first and choose to dine-in or to-go, with most people opting to dine-in for the best presentation and quality. Afterwards, you find an available table which can be challenging during peak hours, sometimes you have to stand if you bring a large group. We got the mango melon, strawberry, green tea, and oreo tiramisu (single size). The single size is good for solo but also not as good of a presentation as the regular portions that feed 2-4 people, but I am glad they provided this option as a lot of places force you to overorder. The mango melon was okay - the melon is a nice touch for presentation but the mango bingsoo felt a bit too boring as-is. The strawberry one is a bit more delicious even though it is just one fruit, but I would recommend adding a topping like mochi to give more variety. The green tea one is probably my favorite, and it comes with red bean and mochi. The oreo tiramisu is okay, but I found it interesting they gave a shot of espresso to add as much or as little as you want to your liking. read more

The bingsu is delicious! I don't think you can go wrong with any of the flavors here. I recently got the black sesame bc I can never say no to black sesame. The single person is the perfect size that 1 or 2 people can honestly share it. If you want to share with even more people then the regular size would be good for 2-3 people. The only bummer about this place is that the parking situation is terrible.. that's ktown for ya! Also depending on the day/time you come here, it can get really busy. Surprisingly, when I came on a Saturday night after having dinner it wasn't too busy that my friends and I were able to snag a table inside. read more
I went to Oakobing in K-town and it was really good. The green tea shaved ice was so light refreshing and honestly one of the best I've had. The black sesame was okay but lacked a ton of flavor so definitely get the green tea if you go The place has a casual vibe and the staff are super quick which is nice since they were so busy. Took a moment to find a place to sit but maybe it's better during the middle of the week or earlier in the day. The bingsu comes with condensed milk on the side so you can control how sweet it is and it's topped with chewy mochi which I loved. Pro tip: let it sit for a minute so the ice softens and absorbs the flavors it tastes even better that way. Parking is typical K-town so be ready to park in a paid lot nearby. Portions are big great for sharing. I'd probably come back for the green tea bingsu w mochi if in the area, def try it!! read more

Ambiance: It has ample seatings with additional seating in the back. However, there were a lot of mini bugs that I see in the store so I don't think the store has a good hygiene No WiFi here but there is restroom. All the foods are self-served (they call your numbers when it is ready, and you go pick up at the counter) Food: I got the injeolmi single shaved ice, it is a 9/10. I love injeolmi btw so I wish they have injeolmi powder more evenly distributed rather than just some on the top and the middle. The single portion is still too big for myself, I think two people can share a single lowkey. read more

Pretty solid Korean shaved ice. 3.5 stars. Came on a Wednesday night. Koreatown parking, so bleh (Valet behind the store, $5). Place was crowded. No seats inside, but managed to snag a seat outside, which was okay considering the weather and that the inside smelled like a bathroom the night we were there :/ Opted to share a single green tea and strawberry the between three people. We got it relatively quickly considering the crowd, which was nice. $20 with tip for both. Overall, the ice had a good texture. I do think they go heavy here on the flavor and syrups, so it's not as light as some other bingsu places I've had, more on the creamy and decadent side. Still hits, though lol. Everything is self service so you don't interact with workers too much. read more
My absolute favorite shaved ice spot no doubt. Their shaved ice is more like shaved milk since it's so creamy and decadent but made with the texture of Korean shaved ice, aka bingsu. I tried the matcha green tea which to me was too light in flavor so I didn't prefer it and I don't think I'd be ordering it again. This is coming from someone who loves matcha since it wasn't rich in taste or color. What I did love though was the black sesame flavor. I ordered the black sesame milkshake on a whim since it asked if I wanted to add anything during checkout at the kiosk, and I couldn't resist. I was going to order a mini bingsu instead just so I could try out the flavor but this opportunity arose and I'm so glad I didn't skip it. The black sesame was so rich in flavor and nuttiness that I downed the whole milkshake in less than 5 minutes. There is no doubt I will be ordering the bingsu version of this next time. It was pretty crowded at 10 p.m. on a Sunday night both inside and outside because I guess we all had the same idea to enjoy shaved ice. That said, we were able to grab a seat in the corner and the items came out quickly. read more
Oakobing has some beautifully presented bingsu with fun flavors, and the portions are generous enough to share. The melon bingsu is refreshing, and the toppings are fresh, but the shaved ice texture felt a little more icy than creamy this time. And way too sweet for me. Matcha also sweet and just a bit hint of green tea flavor. Favorite out of it was the injeolmi flavor which is soy bean powder. Service was polite but a bit slow, maybe might need more staff when busy time . Prices are on the higher side for dessert, so I was expecting a bit more in terms of flavor and execution. It's still a cute spot for a sweet treat in Koreatown, but I'm not sure I'd make a special trip back. Still like sul beans better. Especially with somi somi!!! read more
Came here Tuesday night and got the Green Tea single shaved ice while my friend got the Oreo Tiramisu single shaved ice. We ordered through the kiosk and our order arrived in about 5-10 minutes. The green tea came with a side of condensed milk, mochi, and red beans. For ~$7.50, I thought it was worth it. The shaved ice was very soft and fluffy. I really like how the matcha is incorporated into the ice because with every bite, you'll have a matcha flavor. The mochi and the red beans were a nice refreshing touch to it. For the Oreo Tiramisu, it was also delicious, fluffy, and soft. Really like how the powdered chocolate was in between each layer and having the Oreo crumbs didn't make it too sweet. The shot of espresso also helped balanced the sweetness if anything. Overall, I thought this place was delicious. Both shaved ice melted so effortlessly in my mouth. The staffs were prompt with our order. The price was reasonable. The portion size for a single shaved ice was big and can actually be shared amongst two people. Parking can be tough but is doable. When you FINALLY scratch the itch!! I've been craving Mango Bingsoo for the longest time, but of course, there are no places near me in the boonies. =( I'm so thankful for friends who frequent L.A. and let me tag along!! After a fun-filled day with a big surprise, we ended up here at Oakobing since it was the first place that popped up on Yelp, a 12 minute drive from where we were, and it was open late. The reviews don't lie. This place cracks, and it's not hard to see why. They have a simple menu at decent prices, and even though the wait may be long, it is 100% worth it!! I usually see bingsoo in a large amount, which they offer here in addition to the single size. I wouldn't get one because I can't finish a huge one on my own, and I usually roll solo. I'm glad to see they offer single sizes here! I got my Mango fix and added Mochi on the side. All flavors come with condensed milk (it's watery, so I don't think it's the sweetened kind). It hit the spot and was just enough to satisfy me. My friend had the Black Sesame, and that was good, too. They have seating indoors and outside, but they were packed. It is pretty loud in here! We paid through the kiosk and waited about 20-25 minutes before our order was ready. We took them and ate at the onigiri place down the street on the corner. Parking here is rough, but we parked in a public garage nearby. There's also a designated parking spot, but we didn't see where it was. We just walked by the sign. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for some bomb Bingsoo! I'd come again for sure! read more

Got to signature melon mango shaved ice and while it was very delish the wait was quite horrendously long. Thank god we grabbed a table and socialized with the people waiting next to us but they had 2 ppl working that day and just hoards of ppl lined up. When we came in they were nearly 40 orders behind!!! waited almost an hour! read more
the ambiance of the store is just incredible. very photo genic aesthetic picture spot. we shared a matcha mochi + black sesame mochi bingsu amongst 3 people. no complaints, very milky , deep bold flavor and WILL BE COMING BACK! Oakobing has some of the best bingsu I've had in LA. They provide a small cup of condensed milk with each order to pour over the top to your liking. Ordering was done through a kiosk and is quick and easy. This location is small with limited seating and gets incredibly dirty towards mid/late afternoon, especially in the summertime. Please avoid the bathroom at all costs unless you really need to use it. It was filthy and every surface was sticky, but the lack of cleanliness is understandable given employees are always tied up with orders and don't have down time for anything else. The bingsu itself would be 4 stars, but overall giving this 3 stars because I didn't have a great experience with cleanliness. read more

I'm honestly only giving Oakobing **2 stars because of Diego**. Without him, this would've easily been a 1-star experience. We waited about **an hour and a half** for shaved ice... and it just wasn't worth it. It looks great, very Instagram-type dessert, but the taste is honestly mid. After a few bites it's just ice with light flavor. Definitely not something that justifies that kind of wait or price. They have self-order machines, so you'd expect things to be efficient, but it actually made everything more confusing. Orders were clearly backing up, no updates, no communication, and people just standing around wondering what's going on. Now Diego... that guy was literally doing EVERYTHING. Taking care of orders, calling numbers, running drinks, carrying big pitchers of water, cleaning, going to the back, nonstop. At times there was nobody even at the front because he had to handle everything else. You could tell he was hustling and doing his best to hold the place together while it was clearly understaffed. He deserves a raise, no question. Then there's Sergio. Completely different experience. I asked a simple question about when my number might be up after waiting forever, and he gave me a really mad look and straight up ignored me. After that, he was basically nowhere to be seen while Diego was left handling everything on his own. I'm attaching a photo because it pretty much sums it up: Diego running around nonstop trying to keep things together, while the rest of the support just wasn't there. The whole experience just felt chaotic. Long wait, no communication, inconsistent service, and a product that doesn't live up to the hype. So yeah, 2 stars only because Diego kept this from being a total disaster. Otherwise, it would've been 1 star easy. Management needs to seriously fix staffing, training, and overall operations. read more
SO YUMMY!! this is my favorite dessert spot this is a pretty popular dessert spot at night and it can get packed & hard to find seating because a lot of groups of friends come to chill so people are hovering over tables to claim seats i enjoy that it's a kiosk to order from makes it easy & i feel way less anxious ordering! this time around we got two single serving sizes in mango melon & strawberry to share between 4 people & it was just enough!! i've also gotten the large green tea shaved ice and thats good for 2-4 people! we added mochi and i like that it's ok the side so you can add as you please honestly can't go wrong with any of the flavors here read more
After eating delicious Tomahawk Steak, one must finish the meal with dessert, of course! A quick Yelp search and Oakobing shows up nearby in Koreatown, Los Angeles. Oakobing is focused on "Bingsu" or "Bingsoo", which is popular Korean Shaved Ice Dessert with various toppings and side of condensed milk on top. My friend tried their "Mango Melon" and I tried their "Black Sesame". Warning - the portions are super large (2 persons can actually just share 1 dessert). Service was quick and easy. We ordered on screen and the desserts were ready in about 5 to 10 minutes. There was a short line of people in front of us. Ambiance is casual / self serve. *Note - we came at that awkward time between lunch and dinner, so the store wasn't super busy and there were seats available* Delicious! Giant portions! read more

I'm sure you have all heard that we eat with our eyes. As soon as I saw the pictures of the shaved dice offered here I knew we had to try it. Upon entering you place your order on the kiosk and they call your number when it's ready. I got mine pretty fast and was excited to try it. I chose the green tea flavor and added mochi to it. It was super good not too sweet. I would say this is a dessert you can share with one more person as it is a good portion. Yum yum yum! read more

A small hole in the wall serving up absolutely delicious Korean shaved ice (bingsu) with delicious toppings, including traditional ones like red beans, mochi, black sesame, injeolmi, etc., as well as less traditional ones like Oreo, espresso, and various fruits. Best of all, they are served in attractively large mountains, sometimes served in bowls made from fruit! You'll definitely find a flavor you love and the texture of this shaved ice is pillowy soft, making it downright impossible not to fall in love. Trust me! read more

I'd always go back for Oakobing. I have had bingsoo in multiple places and this is confirmed to be in the top tier! The bingsoo is flavorful and fine. No big chunk of ice that hurts your teeth. Melon is also very sweet and it gives a great balance to the texture. The only downside is the location, they need to open a location in OC read more
A fantastic Bingsoo place in LA. I really enjoyed what we got and would come back here again. We went here on a Saturday afternoon after lunch and we ordered the Green tea and Melon Bing soo. They were both fantastic, I really enjoyed the flavors of both and the mochi that the green tea bingsoo came with was a great addition. There is also free water there which is really nice to clear your palate a little bit. The restaurant was really clean and we ordered everything using a touch screen that was in the front of the screen. The service was nice as well. Parking seemed to be slightly difficult to find however we got lucky and found one. read more

Pretty mediocre, it's a good place to stop by for a cold sweet treat if you're around but not worth the special trip to go to. We got the small mango ice with melon balls and I will say the flavor itself is not bad, as the ice did have some mango flavoring. The downside is that it took a long time to get our treat and tables are always full. Seems like they're very understaffed. It was also kind of expensive. However I do like that the consistency was creamy, melt-in-your-mouth and not sharp and icy.. if that makes sense. Would I come back just for this? Maybe not. read more

it is actually pretty awesome!! they put them in these little paper cups and have ice packs in the packaging so they are still frozen when they arrive.
