My wife and I went here for Valentine's Day. We try to get Italian every year and this was a place that we heard good things about. The place was a little cramped, but we were seated promptly. Our waitress came by a few minutes later, offered us a wine list and kinda disappeared for a while. Then, when we ordered wine, they didn't have what we ordered and tried to pass off a cheap substitute, which I declined. However, the waitress was very gracious and gladly got us a different bottle. The food was pretty good. We didn't order appetizers, mostly because there was nothing on the appetizer menu that was horribly original or interesting - mostly just clams casino, shrimp cocktail, stuff like that. But we were given bread with a very good dipping oil. I ordered a bone-in ribeye. My wife got veal. Their veal section was very decent. Just about every veal dish you can imagine. Our entrees were perfectly done (I can't stand steaks that are overcooked) and well presented. The portions were definitely large. Overall it was a pretty good meal. Best of all, it was pretty cheap. A good bottle of wine and 2 entrees for under $80. Can't really beat that. I'll go back. read more

I am simultaneously crying and drooling as I write this. Drooling because I could so go for some delicious home made pasta right now and crying because it is about 600 miles away. Yes, at Oaks Inn you will quite possibly have a long wait for a table. It may be crowded. Because of this the service may be a little slow. But the minute that food hits your table you instantly forget all the hassle and melt. The veal parm, the chicken marsala (or picata), the eggplant, the simple deliciousness of the home made spaghetti. For years this has been our family's spot for special occaisions - birthday dinners to rehearsal dinners to hey-we-are-all-actually-in-town-lets-go-out. I went here about a month ago while on business in Binghamton. I noticed that fellow Yelper Dan M. had reviewed many restaurants in the area and, liking his take on certain aspects of restaurants and what he felt is most important to notice (and note), I went with Oaks Inn because he said it was the best of the bunch. His rave review of Oaks Inn was spot on. I went with the Filet (med. rare) and while I don't remember what it came with, it's doesn't matter because the steak was just incredible. Cooked to perfection. I sat at the bar and also enjoyed a few Dirty Martinis throughout my meal. I met some really cool local business owners and we chatted for some time. They shared with me a few other top spots in the area that I plan on checking out on my next jaunt to Binghamton. Contender for the best Italian restaurant in the area, would be well-regarded in any area. Comfortable, cozy, lounge-like environment in a pleasant old neighborhood, reasonable prices, generous portions. It does get busy and you'll want a reservation. Highly recommend the Utica greens and chicken saltimbocca. Walk up the block to Antonio's for gelato cocktails and sometimes live music afterwards if you want to make a night of it and get a feel for what people mean about Endicott's "old days". read more

On a recent visit to Oaks Inn I was pleasantly surprised by an excellent meal. I had gone in the past and thought the eggplant parm was over breaded and the calamari fra diavolo was watery and unappealing. However, this most recent experience completely changed my opinion. I ordered the chicken saltimbocca and asked to substitute the side of pasta for a side of gnocchi with vodka sauce (for a relatively reasonable up charge of $6). The chicken saltimbocca was prepared in a way I had never experienced saltimbocca in the past. It was cut up into medium sized medallions and covered with the most delicious wine sauce, which was topped with perfectly cooked mushrooms, pieces of prosciutto and melted cheese. It was piping hot when it arrived and was one of the most comforting meals I have had at a local restaurant in quite some time. The gnocchi was the perfect side; the vodka sauce was flavorful and the gnocchi's were soft and pillow-y (which is not exactly easy to find). The service was quick and efficient and I left feeling like I could not have made that meal any better in my own kitchen, which is really the whole purpose of eating out. read more

We went here tonight and had an enjoyable time. We had a reservation for 6pm so we decided to grab drinks at the bar and we all were happy with the drinks that were made for us. They don't have a drink menu but if you're looking for a shamrock shake type drink the "Grasshopper" was delicious and is good to enjoy as a regular drink or a dessert drink. My family had the "Utica Green" appetizer special which my family enjoyed on garlic bread toast. After that we ordered our meals which came with fresh Italian bread and salads. My dad and I had veal dishes and my mom and sister had eggplant parm. All of the meals came with a side of pasta which definitely made it easy to have leftovers. Yum! Went here for the first time and overall was pretty impressed. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was classy. My main complaint was the wait. I had made reservations 5 days in advance for my party of 4, and we still had a half hour wait. Passed the time quickly at the bar, but it seemed there were empty tables when we were seated. Maybe they're trying to keep pace and not overwhelm the kitchen? It's not a huge deal to me, but if you're in a hurry or want to just drop in, this isn't the place to go. The food came quickly - fresh yummy bread, with dipping oil. Salads were a nice variety of lettuces, pepperoncini, chickpeas, olives and tomatoes, above average from other local Italian joints. Main dishes were large and filling. Most entrees come with a pasta side - the homemade pasta costs a little more. My eggplant parm was 5 slices and had a nice crisp crust... They might deep fry it? The cheese was plentiful and the sauce was well balanced. If you like a lot if sauce, the side pasta might not have enough. I had a red sauce based dish, so mine was fine, but someone in my group had saltimbocca and wished they had more red sauce on their side. I'd like to go back and try some apps and dessert. The ingredients are very fresh and you can tell from how delicious the food is. They have a great wine selection and are generally pretty busy, so make a reservation. Though we had to wait a little bit for a table, we were able to sit at the bar for the 10 we waited which is quite frankly fair given the fact that we didn't make reservations on a Saturday night. I've only been here a few times, and I know that most people love this place but anytime I go I leave underwhelmed. First off, I wanna say that I like sweeter spaghetti sauces, I'm a huge fan of Little Venice, and this sauce is nothing like LV, and I get it, that's fine, people have different tastes, and this place just doesn't really fit my flavor profile, which is why I'm giving it a 3 instead of a 2, I can tell that the food is a decent quality for the most part, it's just not for me. Flavor aside, the side of homemade spaghetti I had was disappointing. First off the pasta wasn't drained very well, the bottom of the plate was pretty watery, and also the pasta was on the thin side and I honestly couldn't tell that it was homemade. The sauce did work better with the veal parm though. This was my first time eating veal, I tried it because I heard good things about their veal but honestly it didn't do much for me, I think I'd rather have chicken parm. the cheese was really good though! On a more recent visit I got the penne ala vodka because I know someone who said it was the best in town, and unfortunately I gotta disagree. I needed to add a lot of cheese to it to get it to my liking, I thought the sauce was on the bland side. Our waitress said that the dish is even better the next day, and when I ate my leftovers I didn't notice much of a difference :( I was with my family on this visit and my sister got the utica greens for an app and I tried some of them and I thought they were great! I usually hate greens but I didn't mind these. my mom also let me have a few bites of her food and that was much better than mine, I forget the name but it was some chicken dish with a white wine sauce and mushrooms. I remember the salads being decent and the bread was good last time. One time I got their gnocchi with alfredo sauce and that might be my favorite thing I've had from them. It was good but kinda average, that's not a hard dish to make. The service can be hit or miss. Oddly enough the service was better and more attentive when I was here with a larger party than when I was here with a couple friends. The restaurant itself is nice, it's doesn't feel like it's over 50 years old. So overall it's not bad but it's not for me, I'd rather go to Consol's if I was dining in this area. read more

We've eaten at Oaks Inn for years- it's truly the best authentic Italian food! We never did takeout though, until last night. I have to say, it surpassed our expectations! First of all you should know if given the choice of chicken or veal in most restaurants, I almost always choose chicken. Not at Oaks Inn though as their veal is excellent! We had 3 entrees; veal parm, veal francaise and my personal favorite, veal saltimbocca. Nobody else makes it as well as they do! The meals come with a nice salad, bread, and pasta and it was all packed in nice to-go containers so that it arrived with no spills and piping hot! Overrated. I made the mistake of having expectations when I entered here. Totally posh and upscale ambiance and generous portions. However, the food itself was not good. Perhaps I'm picky about how pasta is cooked after spending a short time in Rome, but the home made spaghetti (in two dishes ordered) and ravioli were all over cooked and way too mushy to enjoy. Also, the spaghetti was basically served with the water it was cooked in and not at all drained well. (Who does that?) The meatballs were meh...I've made better using a recipe found online and I'm not Italian. The seasoned oil for the bread was too peppery to enjoy. Just plain, MEH. Most annoying was the service. Sure the waiter and water girl were friendly enough but they failed to see our appetizers and salad plates were empty at several stops at the table to check "is everything ok" and needed to be called back to give us some space on the table. In my humble opinion, Consoles across the street has way better quality food. Or even better, find your own recipes online and chef it up at home. read more

The quintessential Italian restaurant in Endicott. The place has been here since I was a kid over 4 decades ago and nobody survives that long unless they are good. This place is excellent. The atmosphere is a timeless Italian restaurant vibe that could be the 40s, 50s, 60s or 2017--very comfortable and inviting. Service is friendly and swift. I especially like the calamari app is fantastic, not breaded and fried but calamari in marinara the way god intended. Fantastic. I had the shrimp al a cacciatore and it was just fantastic. Last nite our first time. We could not find fault with ANY aspect of the Oaks. CLEAN, Comfy atmosphere, soft "sinatra-type" music, reasonable prices with good sized portions, nice staff. We had to take food home, but we ordered a bit. Shrimp cocktail, clams casino, utica greens (escarole+), salads (comes w/dinner), homemade cavetelli with calamari, veal w/artichokes (comes side pasta, i opted for honemade capp.), bottle of Chianti. Very, very good. Not to sound upscale cos we ain't, but we've eaten from NY, NY to Vegas to London to Italy to Philly. And both full blooded Italian. read more

My son graduated last weekend from Binghamton University which is awesome! Unfortunately I discover this amazing Italian restaurant four years to late. I must say that I am very happy to have found a fantastic meal. Great section of Endicott, plenty of parking across the street. Felt at home right away. The food was fantastic. They egg batter the eggplant for the parmigiana which gives it an incredibly lite texture. The tomato sauce is almost as good as mine. The Utica greens are escarole with garlic sautéed perfectly served with garlic bread. The filet mignon with Gorgonzola and mushrooms was worth every penny. My 11 year old daughters spaghetti and butter was perfect not to mention the homemade shortcake berries and cream! 2nd Greatest thing about the restaurant after the food is the acoustics. I could have a conversation and listen to Sinatra. If I'm ever back in the greater Binghamton area we are definitely returning. Grazi! read more

Umm yea if your in the area and are craving Italian. YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE!! Quite possibly the best Italian I've had in a long time!! Food was outstanding and for the price you can not go wrong!!! Diner prices for a five star Italian restaurant!! Staff was very friendly and professional. I came with two others but did not make reservations at around 6:30 on a Wednesday but host was still able to seat us we just had to wait a bit so we sat at the vintage bar. We all ordered a cup of coffee because we were working an overnight and it was outstanding! We chatted with the bar tender whom was very friendly and attentive! Then we're seated with warm bread and olive oil with Italian seasoning to dip in which I absolutely love and wish more places would do this. I ordered the manicotti. Of course it was delicious. Upon the recommendation of one of my wife's coworkers, we took a ride to Oaks Inn. WOW!!! I lived most of my life in Brooklyn and Staten Island, NY, and when I retired in 2000 and moved to the Twin Tiers of NY/PA, I thought I would never find another great Italian restaurant. Even my grandkids get tired of Pizza Hut. Geez, was I mistaken. Upon the recommendation of one of my wife's coworkers, we took a ride to Oaks Inn. WOW!!! If this place was smaller and had only eight tables and a wizened old man sitting behind a micro-bar sipping on a small glass of strega, it would be just like being in one of the best places in Little Italy in Manhattan. The food, especially the veal, is superb, and the small touches like the spiced oil for bread dipping make for a great dining experience. When I brought my mother (Calabrese) here, she was delighted. This is my favorite restaurant in the Binghamton area. I usually order the veal piccata. All of their veal is amazing. I would also recommend the penne a la vodka. Their ceaser salads are really good and I have never had a soup there I didn't like. The service is always really good. It is popular, so I would recommend making a reservation. Going a bit later, though, like after 7:30 will usually get you a table right away as well. They have recently renovated the interior and it is much brighter and more modern looking. I normally love Oaks Inn, not tonight. Four of us who have been going to Oaks for decades had a horrible experience tonight thanks to our waiter . Unfortunately we did not get his name. I'm hoping that the owner will know who he is because one of our veal dinners was sent back The waiter never apologized, he never asked if we wanted another glass of wine after the first one . I decided to try this place in Little Italy on a Friday night and it was busy! I haven't had Italian food this good in a long, long time. Their bread to start out was very appetizing. I had the Chicken Parmigiana for my main course and it was spectacular. The sauce they paired with the chicken matched perfectly, and the pasta was good as well. The service was average, but it was very busy so I give them a break on that. The food very much made up for it! A few details about the restaurant..The outside leaves a lot to be desired, but the inside is very nice. The tables have white tablecloths, I felt underdressed in jeans and a polo shirt. The tables are pretty close together, and the patrons seemed to make up an older, sophisticated crowd. Expect to pay an average of $20 a plate. Overall 5 stars!! read more

Had dinner on Thursday, May26th. We did not have reservations but they were able to seat the two of us. The service was prompt. But then it took a long time to get our food and for the server to come back. The prices were reasonable for the restaurant. I've been there before and it's always been very good. I've always said at the bar. I really like the bar it's really nice. Bartender is always nice as well. This night however I had the red clam and pasta. The clams are way too chewy. I wasn't able to finish the dish. ($19) The salads were both OK. My friend had shrimp and mushroom with marinara and pasta. He said it was delicious. I had two glasses of 14 hands wine and I got to say the prices for wine are extremely inexpensive! I do enjoy the ambience and this restaurant very much. It's definitely worth checking out when you're in the area. And if you live in the area, lucky you! read more

My favorite italian restaurant in the area. I've gone here three times -- twice I "special ordered" chicken marsala, since it's not on the menu. Spectacular! The salad was excellent too. I would rate this place somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. It just seems like they could be doing so much more. To start, the bread was flavorless and tasted store bought. The Caesar salad tasted funky, like they were using cheap domestic Parmesan instead of the good stuff (I guess that's why it's $5 though). The chicken saltimboca was solid, but the eggplant Parmesan was very bland - the eggplant didn't have a flavorful breading and the sauce was also bland.
