The food is great along with the service and the options to deliver and pick up with Covid going on. It does get a tad bit tedious when it's busy but that's to be expected of from any and most restaurants. Food is very consistent here and you can expect it to be each time you visit. This is probably the best lemon pepper tilapia I've had in years!! Fresh greens. Amazing key lime pie with homemade cookie crumble crust. Homemade onion rings were cold but still had good flavor. This was a great meal! We stopped in on our way from Miami to Nashville. We ordered barbecue pork, fried shrimp, smoked chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, carrot soufflé, cucumber salad, and corn bread. The flavor of everything was on point. If you're looking for some really yummy country cooking, you'll find it at this place. My grandmother, who was a native Georgian, cooked meals like the ones you'll find here, so it brought back memories of that sweet lady. The food was great, too! My husband got chicken livers - something I wouldn't be caught dead cooking - and he said they were delicious. I had chicken casserole - YUM! We used to order to go all the time. One day they told me I couldn't order kids meals to go. Because I wasnt a kid. When you could've probably heard at least one of my kids in the background. However they were ringing it up,because they refused to charge me for the 2 kids meal, was close to $50. When the normal is around $25 for our food. Their food isn't worth that price, sorry. I know I've reviewed this restaurant before, but this place is fantastic! We had a nice Saturday to do a little site seeing and found ourselves less then 30 miles form Dalton. That might seem far for a pop in visit, but not for Oakwood. We've never been to a place that was so consistently outstanding. What a great little place! We were looking for a nice local restaurant, and were led here by the Yelp reviewers. The food was an excellent example of good, honest Southern cooking. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, our group got a wide selection of different items from the menu, and everyone was happy with the results! Great meat and two or three restaurant. Menu changes daily. They also offer grill options and have an awesome french dip sandwich! Their salads and desserts are good too! They serve Breakfast but I haven't been there as often for for that. I can recommend the pecan pancakes! I only order 1 because they are as big as a plate.....All the food is wonderful! read more

Great place for a quick and friendly bite to eat when traveling through. My husband and I had the Saturday special of brisket and my daughter had the fried chicken tenders both were excellent! Our sides included a side salad, pinto beans, baked sweet potato, potato salad, fries and mashed potatoes... again everything was very good. Meals were also served with either a roll or cornbread. The veggie plate didn't "wow" me, but it was certainly A-OK. Squash casserole was extra cheesey and rich, but the small, ice cream scoop sized serving was devoid of any crispy topping. Greens, which I'm assuming were collards though the menu was silent on that, were solid, and they were made even better with the addition of some of that pepper vinegar. The fried green tomatoes were sadly disappointing. They had very little flavor, and only two paper thin slices came in an order. The cornbread that came with the meal was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. For a meal that was just $5.50 for three veggies, I guess I can't be disappointed with the smallish serving sizes. If you're really hungry, go for at least the four veggie plate, or better yet, get a meat option. My colleagues that went for the grilled tilapia got two giant filets with their meals. read more

First of all...if you don't live here, its very unlikely you'll find this beautiful historic town or this tiny restaurant downtown. But if you do find yourself in Dalton and feel the need to clog an artery or put on a few pounds, i definitely recommend it. Second, if you live in the city like me, but can't afford to keep up with the latest styles, then fear not... You will not stand out in your 4 year old khakis and 5 year old golf shirt. Thank goodness the guys don't wear "skinny jeans" here! Fried green tomatoes and BBQ sauce are great. My server was also great. This is a truly friendly place. If you ever find yourself in Dalton, Georgia ("Carpet Capital of the World") stop here to eat. If this place is a spitting image of the kind of southern cooking one would expect, count me in.
