I remember going to this place as a teen, when the shopping center at the corner of Oak Tree Road and Wood Avenue was still bustling. Unfortunately, that shopping center has fallen on hard times -- or at least looks like it. So now I'm of mixed opinions that it's still there... I'm glad it hasn't changed, but I'd also like to see it thrive. But that's not what you're interested in -- you want to know if you should go there. Definitely. It's your standard New Jersey pizza joint, but the quality is slightly higher, and the service is warmer. I've always had very positive interactions with the folks who work there. While the pizza is good, character of staff leaves a bad taste in my mouth. At least half of the staff were unfriendly when we go there, but that was okay as long as they are not rude. We have encountered once or two who had been nice enough to make us come back. The last straw was this ***rude man, who tried to correct me when I used the word "flavors" instead of "toppings" when I was trying to place an order over the phone. He was lecturing me that they're not an ice cream shop, but a pizzeria, hence they don't have different flavors, but have toppings instead. Worse was when I heard in the background that other staff were laughing. Well, they have lost a customer. There are at least five different pizzerias in our area, but they just happen to be the closest one. I suggest the owner teach the staff some cultural sensitivities, being that they are located in a very heavy Asian neighborhood, which may use different words than what they traditionally use. Oakwood is a staple in the Edison Pizza game. They've been around for as long as I can remember. Their pizza is decent, I'd put it in the top 5 for Edison. Excellent dough, decent sauce, quality crust, and what's that on the bottom, yup semolina, creeping up and dancing with your tongue to add some texture to your taste, they could be in the top three but they have a problem, their cheese isn't of top quality. I've worked in pizzerias, I've slanged pies and gotten high off my own supply, you can tell by the color it's not the best. If you're nearby and need a slice this is a solid spot, you'll get a decent slice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get here because there are better pizza options in town. read more

I am a business owner myself and use oakwood's catering services multiple times a week to feed my employees. I order everything from pizza, to their pasta dishes and sandwiches. Everything is always perfect and still warm for my guys upon delivery. As their shirts say they actually do have the best buffalo pizza I've ever had! They're employees are always more then helpful with questions about serving sizes and what not. I have been ordering from oakwood for over 5 years and don't plan on stop ordering from them any time soon. Their pizza is truly the best we've ever had at the shop. I've been trying to eat healthy lately and they actually have great healthy choices for me, I've been ordering grilled chicken sandwiches and the chicken is always grilled perfectly on their char-broiler grill. Good, old-school pizza places in North Edison are getting increasingly hard to find, as the diaspora has changed area demands. Oakwood is one of the last remaining establishments and must be supported for that reason alone. Besides, the food is good! While our office enjoys ordering from here for the convenience, their delivery service is terrible. When ordering on the phone, we are constantly told the food will take 30-45 minutes to be delivered, and when it does not arrive, they change their statement and say it will take about an hour. Our food has NEVER arrived in under 1hr, no matter how small the order. The food isn't bad overall -- their garlic knots are AMAZING! Their Buffalo pizza is great.However, their prices are quite high and always have been compared to other pizzarias in the area.I've lived in Edison for over 20 years, formerly Woodbridge so I know what i'm talking about.Their pepperoni pizzas are good too.However, we've actually had a few pizzas arrive undercooked over the years because they were very busy.Overall, I'd say...definitely go here for the buffalo pizza, otherwise try another good place for other choices.We always get ours with extra hot sauce and extra blue cheese on the side.It ends up costing us around 26.50 with the extra sauces + tax and delivery charges.Then there's the tip.Being that you can get much more for that price at other types of food places, we don't order it on a regular basis. read more

Let me first start this review off with how I first came across this place. I was eating with my family at a nearby chinese restaurant and forgot to bring a bottle opener with me, so I walked around the corner and asked politely if they had one I could borrow.Without hesitation they pulled one out from a drawer and lent it to me with no questions asked....I was very impressed, this is the type of (potential) customer service that is rarely seen in this industry anymore, they didn't make me purchase something first, or ask for collateral or a deposit, they simply helped out a complete stranger who at the time was eating in another restaurant. Upon returning with the bottle opener I asked if they delivered to my area and requested a menu, at the least I believe they deserved a chance to gain me as a future customer,despite the fact I allready have my spot for pizza. Well about a month or so goes by and I came across the take out menu and decided to give them a try,assuming that at the very least I would get an average N.J. pizza place meal.....well that was the first mistake. They forgot to bring my wifes eggplant dish, and the food was,well not cold, but not really very hot either. Not a huge deal, the place is a few miles away, and they returned with the entree (hotter then the first food that was delivered) so it was a par experience that left neither a good or bad taste in my mouth, an overall experience that I would deem easily forgetable. Now for the reason I am writing this review.... around 5:15 pm or so on a saturday night I called and placed a very basic order of a sicilian pie, well done and for the driver to call when he gets here. The girl on the phone cautioned me that it would be between 1-1.5 hours for delivery as they are backed up and wanted to make sure i was ok with that before she put the order in....a wise move,and though I was unhappy with 1+ hours being the wait time i understood and agreed that was fine. so about an hour and 10 minutes goes by and I just happened to notice the driver walking up to the door (did not call,despite the request), I open the door quickly handing him the cash with tip, he hands me a heavy crushed pizza box with what appears to be the once upon a time remains of a sicilian pizza, most of the sauce and cheese stuck to the lid of the box. I showed this to the driver, and he quickly took it back,said he was sorry, blamed the person who packed it, then promised a speedy return with another pie. So I Call the place back, they are still clearly busy, upon answering the phone the same girl asks for my phone number, i clue her into the situation, no happy,no irate, simply hungry and annoyed. She responds by telling me that a new pie is allready in the oven and they will bring it right over, before hanging up i request to please make sure its correct this time, well done and not stuck to the lid of the pizza box. Another 35 minutes goes by, and the driver comes by again with a new properly packed pizza in his hand, it was still hot and steaming, and they put extra attention to ensure that the lid would not make contact with the pie, he then offered a free 2 liter bottle of pepsi ( i don't drink soda) as recompense for the original error. I declined, still groggy and hungry, and sent him on his way. Upon opening the box on my dining room table i felt enraged....not only was the pizza not well done as i requested, but it was bordering on undercooked. I'm not saying that it was too undercooked for my taste, i mean the dogh inthe center of the pie was still somewhat soft and liquidy, and would immediatly bend in half if picked up ( a byproduct of trying to rush it over to me to fix the initial problem). I take a bite out of the most cooked piece I could find, 2 chews in i spit it out and called back and requested to speak to a manager, the clearly stressed out girl answering the phone responds with "there is no manager here tonight", on a saturday night for any business in the service industry to not have a manager of some type present is simply absurd.No reasonable apology was given to explain the reasoning for this terrible service or sub par product quality other then "we're really busy". as a veteran of food service i feel this issue was handled poorly across the board, and without a doubt a terrible overall experience from this establishment. They will never get my business again, and i will go out of my way to ensure that every single person i know is made aware of this experience as to prevent this level of poor service from infecting those that i care about.....sorry oakwood pizza, but you deserve every single word of this bad review, and i genuinely hope that you learn from it instead of writing it off as just another whining customer. read more

Been here quite a few times. So much hype about the buffalo slice and that's probably the only thing that good here. Items are overpriced for the quantity that you get. Service seems to keep falling after each visit. Went here 3 to 4 times each consecutive Saturday recently. One day there were no garlic knots and this was around 12:30 pm which is lunch time. The same day I had a white slice. Told the girl I wanted a white slice. Sat down. Almost done eating other food and still waiting on slice. Then I finally got up and asked for it. Takes it out of oven and it's like barely warm. I was about to go off on her but wasn't even worth it over a slice of pizza. You would assume that the slice is being heated up. Don't know what was going on. But makes me want to think ten times before going back even though I literally live right next door to it. Absolutely horrible service and unacceptable. The soup portion is about the size of a cup of tea which insane for the price that they charge. read more
