Showed up at the door at 820 PM I noticed the close sign said 830. I was starting to turn around and the owner was walking up and asked to stay and eat. I'm so happy he did because I was craving sushi and ramen. Made my night. Had the whole place to me and very peaceful and happy eating. Visit here today!

My girl friend and I were looking for a lowkey sushi spot and thought to check this shop out, and we were both blown away. The service was great as the chef at the sushi bar is very sociable. He was checking in with us and we weren't sitting at the bar. By far my favorite sushi roll was the yellowtail roll, it was nice and tender. Everything else that we got was also very good. We will both be back again since we both crave sushi often.

Great meal. I got the sushi combo which was listed with 15 pieces, but I received 17 pieces. The slices of fish on the nigiri was generously sized and the chef did not skimp on the portions. My food was fresh and tasty. The place is homey and the chef was very welcoming. The menu is huge and I would return when I'm in the area again.

This is one of my new favorite spots. Mike the owner and his wife Maria and daughter Megan always have a greeting for you whether you're new, like I was, or you're a regular. That sets the tone for an amazing experience. Now to the food. First up was the soft shell crab tempura. Very light crunch and a very flavorful sauce made this the star of the show for me. It was absolutely delicious and I'll have more when I come back. Next was the Sushi Combination 1. Wow! It came with a California roll and 7 pieces of super fresh Nigiri. Also the portions were absolutely huge! Tuna, salmon, albacore, shrimp, octopus, red snapper and mackerel! Unbelievable! I sat at the counter and got to talk to the family and they were absolutely warm and friendly. Mike talked about his many travels as a chef learning many dishes and cuisines. If you're in San Diego this hidden gem is not far from the airport so definitely check it out. If you live here you gotta try it. Some of the best Sushi in San Diego which is saying a lot.

Veggie roll, avocado roll, miso soup, garlic edamame all delicious. The family is friendly and sweet. Clean, positive energy inside. I enjoy coming in every time.

Decided to try this place because of the such high reviews. Ordered the "spicy tuna crispy rice" and it was honestly shocking. The "crispy rice" was just a square, bland rice cake from the grocery store (see the picture for reference). We even asked about it because we were confused, and they insisted it was fresh and fried in-house. When we sent it back (it honestly wasn't edible), the staff were pretty condescending and told us we were "wasting food," which felt unnecessary and rude. The tuna itself was also really chunky and off in texture. Overall, the food wasn't good, but the attitude made the experience worse. Not somewhere I'd go back to at all!!

I came in for no frills beer and hand rolls and was pleasantly surprised how amazing these hand rolls came out! Great pricing too.

Food was so yummy and the owners were sooooo sweet. We were just passing by but we go 1/2 times a year so definitely will be going back.

I personally love this spot. The staff has an amazing way of lifting your spirits and are extremely friendly. Also has a kid I friendly menu. Beautiful atmosphere that feels quaint and welcoming. The food was amazing as well (ask about their Ramen). I definitely recommend for anyone local or vacationing.

Sometimes I take points off for how I'm greeted at the door. I was pleasantly surprised that I was immediately greeted with a warm smile and a table. Even though I took it to go I would definilty sit here and eat. The owners are sweet. With some playful banter between them I felt like I was at home waiting for dinner to get started. For the food I gotta say it's the best Nigiri Salmon I've had. Super fresh and the rice was perfect. I also got the crab roll. Really liked that one. Next time would get it spicier but still it was delicious. If you're looking for a mom and pop spot this is it. Highly recommend would come again and try the ramen.

Dec 2025: Came here for lunch for the 1st time after driving past multiple times. It did not disappoint! The food was delicious, the tea was flavorful & plentiful and equally as wonderful, was the service Michael & Maria provided. This is my new favorite sushi spot....and they have ramen too! Can't wait to come get that on a rainy day. Jan 2026: Had the ramen today and it was delicious! So perfect for a gloomy day. Michael & Maria create such a warm & friendly environment for their customers.

The sushi chef and owner here is a gem - you will likely notice that shortly after arriving. He definitely has very good customer service and has a way with people. We've been here a few times and the fish and food overall has always been good and fresh. I really like the scallop roll here. If you're craving sushi and are in the area, this is a good place to checkout.

The chef's choice was beautiful and tasted great! I'm not an uni fan, but this Santa Barbara urchin was amazing, subtly sea salty and no odd taste that I usually get. The place doesn't get super loud even with all the tables. We also ordered dessert of a matcha basque cheesecake and 2 yuzu ice cream. If you love yuzu like me, you'll love it! Almost like a sorbet rather than ice cream, but so refreshing! We absolutely enjoyed our meal here! The total came out to ~89 per person and everyone thought it was very reasonable for the quality of the fish and how much food we'd ordered!

Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. It tasted like a classic cheesecake, pleasant, but I didn't really get a distinct yuzu flavor. The space is cute and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Overall, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. While the rolls themselves are fairly simple and not especially standout, everything tasted fresh and the service was excellent, which made the experience enjoyable.

Tuna lovers will appreciate how many dishes had tuna. The warm dish (seabass w hairy crab sauce) was one of my favorites, the hairy crab sauce consistency reminded me of banh canh cua. Tuna is from Mexico, most veggies and fruits were from Chino farms.

Unlike several of the other Michelin guide or Michelin Star sushi establishments, they offer more than just Omakase. While the do offer Full Omakase for $189, Nigiri Omakase for $140, and Petite Omakase for $65, they also allow you to order nigiri, sashimi along with multiple other specials and cut rolls. On our first walk in experience, we ordered the Petite Omakase which included 4 seasonal dishes, 6 pieces of sushi, a light fish broth, and a small dessert, we also ordered some add-on sushi. This is meant to be opinionated criticism to help improve but I think the dishes could use more diversity and depth. Everything was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. All of the fish is high-quality, and most of it is imported from Japan. They do also source fantastic shrimp and uni from San Diego at times. Both sushi chefs are super personable, very skilled, and they have rad knife skills! Service from the waitstaff was attentive yet unobtrusive. The restaurant is diminutive and consists primarily of the sushi bar with 10 seats and an attached patio dining area. They do have a small parking lot which is appreciated! The pacing was just right, and each course was presented simply yet beautifully. I truly enjoyed this experience and give it my highest possible accolades! I loved that we were able to taste test three different sakes before choosing, and the carafe of sake was perfect for two of us to enjoy with our meal. It was also fun to choose our own special sake cup/glass from Ichifuji's eclectic collection for the evening I truly enjoyed all of the 19!! courses but the chilled chawanmushi, king salmon & all the nigiri were my favorites. There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

The…read morerestaurant has a modern rooftop vibe in the heart of Downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, making it a great spot for date night. We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.

Came here on a Tuesday night and it was not busy at all but half the tables were unbussed, and we…read morewere sat in the corner and it felt like we were forgotten for a bit. Other couple tables around us... Now it was 8:30 and I get it, its late but I felt like the service was just not up to standards.. now as a server myself I understand the closing shifts, not having a busser on the floor but we are big spenders and I felt like a lot of the service was lacking I had to ask for water to get water, wasabi and ginger didn't come out when I asked for it.. the steps of service was off and I just wished the server took more time w us bc it would've made everything so much better. Sake order took forever.. But it's fine bc I get it, it's a Tuesday night, just maybe wouldn't fly with another person. Now the food quality really makes up for it. - For sake, I usually prefer Junmai Daiginjo. I picked the first one listed, but it ended up being a little too dry for me. Our server did mention it was their driest sake, so that's on me lol. Next time I'll definitely go with the lighter option. 7/10 -yellowtail& jalapeños, spicy tuna crispy rice - decent, solid, no complaints 8/10 -Ribeye/ Wagyu: AMAZING. Seriously, so good. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, tender -- easily one of my favorites of the night. 10/10 - tai snapper appetizer- great w the yuzu kosho- garlic crunch!! 8/10 - shoutout to the busser who knew his food! I asked about the fish and the sauce. - the NIGIRI quality was really fricking good, the toro, the tai, even the bluefin aka like wow 10/10 If it wasn't last call I would've ordered more Wanted dessert but everything was out except mochi- this is also fine bc I get it restaurants run out just shows how good this place is Overall, the food quality was absolutely there and is the reason I would come back. I just wish the service matched the quality of the food because with a little more attention, this easily could've been an amazing experience from start to finish.
