Fast, attentive, and incredible service! Also, greeted and sat quickly as well as got our food super fast too! Great priced sushi and food! There are SO many sushi roll options to choose from! Each of our rolls were $13 a piece which is much more affordable than other sushi places I have been to! There isn't too much seating in the restaurant, but it is very clean. We sat by where they make the sushi which was really cool! We seriously had amazing service! Our waters were never empty, we were checked in on, and our food was out quick. It was all really good from the edamame to the cheese wontons (crab rangoon) to the miso soup to the sushi rolls! I would definitely come back here as a great sushi spot in Pacific Beach. My husband and I really enjoyed coming here for delicious affordable sushi and food!!!

    The Mango Roll

We ordered the mango roll, Philadelphia roll, vegas roll, miso soup, tempura veggies, and garlic edamame. The food was great! The service was fast and we were constantly checked on. It was also SUPER reasonably priced!

I actually thought the food was pretty good. And the service was quick and pretty attentive. My biggest issue was the price. Seeing some of the rolls on the menu as high as 27 dollars blew my mind. Maybe I haven't been out to get sushi in a while but this seemed absolutely absurd. My bill came out to about 70 dollars and while it was good. Holy cow for 3 rolls some edemame and these little baby wontons I find it very hard to recommend.

    Bibimbap

The sashimi was really good! I went with a chirashi for close to $30 because I wanted more sashimi than the sashimi lunch (5 pieces of sashimi with rice and miso soup). It was delish!! A lot of melt in your mouth fish YUM! We also tried the hot stone bibimbap which was ok, just a mediocre bowl - not bad not great - and the katsu lunch for my kid. He wanted the katsu kid menu and I went "you can eat a bigger one with miso soup, salad, and tempura" since I'm guessing the kid would have been rice and a little bit of katsu. I didn't try the katsu but my kid devoured it. The other kid devoured his whole chirashi! The only sad thing for me was how long it took for stuff to come out despite it not being super busy and our whole party got food at different times. Otherwise was a good meal! I'm a little confused at the 50% off sushi rolls all the time. Might as well just put the right price. I guess it's just marketing to get people in? I'd rather just have the plain transparent pricing! By the way there is free 2 hour parking in the back lot in certain numbered spots. It can be a bit confusing so glad there was a guy there to help us!

Always have a great experience at this Sushi Kuchi location! The service is quick, the staff is always friendly and fun, and the food is fresh. This is a smaller location so it does get busy quicker, but the turnaround is high. Would definitely recommend the spicy garlic edamame! The sauce is sooo delicious.

Came here with some friends on a Saturday night. It's a cute local restaurant and was quite busy so we had to wait awhile. Once seated we also waited a bit to order and the service wasn't great throughout the meal. However the food was delicious. I tried two of their fun speciality rolls and loved them. The fish is fresh and the prices are great. The prices themselves are what keep us coming back as well as the yummy food. The 99 cent sake bombs were also a fun add in. Overall great experience.

Went to the Convoy location for years but recently moved to PB & tried out this location! Just as awesome. The service is quick and kind, you can be in & out in under 30 if you wanted to be. Of course outside you're right next to the ocean which is lovely to walk out to afterwards. Food is quality & very reasonably priced. Can't wait to return :)

kitchen generously offered some free fried salmon skin bites and the black tray in the back is holding the spicy shrimp tempura roll

We had a solid experience at Sushi Kuchi. One highlight was the kitchen generously offering some free fried salmon skin bites, which was a nice touch. We ordered three rolls - the Spicy Shrimp Tempura, California Roll, and Crunch Shrimp Roll. All were enjoyable, though nothing particularly outstanding. The presentation was well done, and the meal was very affordable. They also have a deal where you can engage in some social media activities to get one free roll, which adds to the value. One thing that felt unnecessary was the pricing strategy - all rolls were advertised as 50% off, but it would be more transparent to just list the actual prices rather than creating the illusion of a discount. The ambiance is casual, it was average loud level for a night dinner, the staff were attentive and kind. Overall, a decent spot for sushi with good service, great pricing, and fun promotions, but nothing that blew us away as far as taste/quality.

Just your average sushi restaurant. Not overly fancy but not too shabby. Love the 99 cent sake bombs. The fish wasn't smelly and didn't have a bad flavor. Our orders came out quick too and service was good. Average price for sushi since they always have 50% off items. Parking may be a hassle since it's in PB- better to rideshare or carpool!

    Sil R.

Greeted by the host instantly and we decided to sit at the bar. Watching the chef make sushi right in front of our eyes was fun. We ordered mix tempura, bad boy roll and stuffed jalapeno roll. Unarguably one of the best sushi I've had. The crunch on the tennis was unreal. The rolls also were big and filling. The place had a chill vibe without being too quiet.

Feels like I'm slowly working my way through their menu. Sushi's good & decently priced. I think the most underrated option they have is the chefs Kuchi special. It has everything you could want. Lil seaweed salad, roll, nigiri, tempura, miso soup, & delicious meat over cabbage. SO good, omggg. They are super fast even if you have to wait a min to be seated. I like the simplicity of inside and that they have a little side room when the main area fills up. Good sushi option, but def try the special!!!

Sushi Kuchi was a lifesaver during a weekday visit to Pacific Beach. I've been to the mission valley location several times but we figured to try our luck at the PB location and were pleasantly surprised. The 50% select rolls is such a good deal for quite the variety of rolls. We shared 4 rolls and were completely stuffed and satisfied. Service was attentive and there seemed to be beer and saki specials. Rolls were also very well presented. I'll be back!

Our food that we devoured. My plate was already gone because I finished it.

GOOD SUSHI IN LA JOLLA (4.3 stars)…read more - FOOD: pretty good; very fresh fish - PRICE: fair - SERVICE: excellent - AMBIANCE: quaint sushi restaurant (which I like; nice and quiet and chill) I knew something about the execution was familiar. I didn't know it until after eating there and reading a review that this is the sister location of So Cal Sushi (in Normal Heights) and after comparing the menus it made sense! What stood out to me when I knew nothing about this restaurant was that spicy tuna is in majority of their speciality rolls and after tasting it I had thought 'this seems familiar' - sometimes spicy tuna (in anything) can be overdone, played out, or not really cared for. Same thought when I first ate at the sister restaurant in Normal Heights when they first opened years ago - too much of it. But overall execution of the meal was good. :: ORDER :: MISO SOUP ($3.95) - served with wakame, negi, and tofu. average/typical. KURODAI ($9.25) - they have rotation fish list and saw an offering of Kurodai and had to try it. First of all, my favorite is Nodoguro but they didn't have that and was told closest to that was Kurodai. Honestly, I thought differently - didn't really come close to Nodoguro but Kurodai is also a nice cut of fish. The texture was somewhat firm and the taste was light and clean in flavor with a little subtle ending taste of faint sweetness. The fish was extremely fresh and you can taste it immediately. HIGHLY RECOMMEND CITRUS BLISS ROLL ($21.95) - spicy tuna, krab, and cucumber. Topped with salmon, avocado, spicy mayo, crunchies, and unagi sauce. I loved how they make the rolls - not too much rice nor dense packing, very tender and soft roll, easy to consume and eat more without feeling full, and the perfect amount of cut rolls per serving. You can taste the spicy, little bit of creamy, and a good amount of citrus... and if you dunk the roll in soy sauce you get the salty. It is a good roll if you like spicy and citrus - for me I like citrus more than spicy. The roll was good I ate everything, BUT I do feel there could be some improvements. I know people love spicy but when it comes to raw fish - that needs to shine in the sushi. yes tuna is basic but overkilling the flavor to make it spicy isn't for everyone (as it's in nearly every speciality roll). I would recommend lowering the spicy in the tuna because it already has spicy mayo included + it allows the customer to control their spicy level. The sriracha takes over the taste and when eating sushi the spicy for me should come from the wasabi (not soaking good quality fish in a sriracha bath). I wish they also offered their rolls with regular tuna instead of spicy tuna. I will def be back! Overall great place. Until the next bite...

This location has been a variety of restaurants over the years that don't seem to last. Cherryfish is pretty inside. Happy hour is offered at the bar or a sort of strange long skinny table in the middle. We sat at the bar which is way too high for the bar chairs. You literally feel like a child trying to sit at the grown up table. So odd. We were brought menus but then pretty much forgotten as the staff chatted and waited for the dinner rush. Eventually someone came over to take our order and we ordered the HH wine and a couple of appetizers. The food was brought out by the food runner without any plates, silverware or napkins. I had to bug the bartender/bar back for those. Then when the sushi roll came out I had to again bother them for chopsticks, soy sauce, dishes. He gave us one soy sauce dish to share, I guess. The food was ok, the roll was mostly vegetables with small pieces of fish on top. For a restaurant of this price point, I wouldn't return to try the full menu. The service just wasn't there, I don't want to feel like a bother to get basic things. Sad, because I wanted to like this place.

We've practically built date nights around Himitsu ever since. While reservations are a must, they're absolutely worth planning ahead for. One of the things we love most is that every visit becomes a chance to try something new. We're adventurous eaters, so nothing on the menu is off-limits, and we've never left disappointed. On one memorable visit, we ordered the Daily Bento Box, the Tasha Roll, and the Himitsu Sumaki Roll. While the Sumaki Roll leaned more subtle in flavor, the quality of the fish spoke for itself. The Bento Box was a collection of beautifully prepared bites, fresh salads, and perfectly cooked fish that showcased the kitchen's attention to detail. Oddly enough, one of the biggest standouts that day was the rice. It had a wonderful texture, a natural off-white color, and tasted remarkably fresh--as though it came from a small producer who truly cares about quality. Whether that's true or not, I can't say, but it's those little details that make Himitsu feel special. The food is consistently exceptional, but the service deserves just as much praise. The staff is warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You can feel that this isn't just a job--it's a craft they take pride in sharing with every guest. Most recently, I brought my sisters here while they were visiting me in San Diego for a much-needed sister date. We ordered the Karaage Rice Bowl, the Himitsu Bowl, and the chef's recommended sushi (three pieces each). We were so excited to dig in that we forgot to take a picture until after we'd already eaten one piece--that probably tells you everything you need to know. The sushi was, without exaggeration, phenomenal. To quote one of my sisters: "Seriously... the best sushi I have ever had... ever." High praise from someone who's eaten plenty of sushi, and honestly, I couldn't disagree. After years of visits, Himitsu continues to deliver the same outstanding quality, creativity, and hospitality. Restaurants this consistently excellent are incredibly rare. Himitsu is an absolute gem, and every visit reminds us why we keep coming back. We already can't wait for our next culinary adventure.

The drinks arrived after the appetizer. She said the bartender was pretty slammed, but when we looked over, they seemed to be just talking to each other. Anyway the food arrived. We had to call her back because we had no utensils. That took another ten minutes. We had muscles, but nothing to put the shells in, so I just piled them on the table which then of course started this pool of sauce around them, and the table got quite messy. All in all, having the music so loud quite frankly I think I might have hearing loss, and the service being so terrible I couldn't wait to get out of there. Our bill was $200. With so many new sushi restaurants opening around town, it's a little out of the way for us, and honestly, I had almost forgotten about it. I love taking my time, enjoying each bite, and watching the chefs work, which is another reason I prefer sitting at the counter. The Chef's Choice was absolutely worth it. Every piece was incredibly fresh and beautifully prepared. My favorite was the aged toro, which had been aged for three months. It had such a rich, buttery flavor and completely melted in my mouth. My husband ordered a few specialty rolls, and he was very happy with both the quality and the generous portions. I also upgraded my regular miso soup to the clam miso soup, and I'm so glad I did. The broth was delicate and flavorful without being overly salty, and the clams added a wonderful sweetness. Even though I was already pretty full, I couldn't resist ordering three pieces of tempura after seeing them come out for another customer. I rarely order tempura in the U.S. because it's often heavily battered, when authentic Japanese tempura should be light, crisp, and delicate. If you've ever been to a dedicated tempura restaurant in Japan, you know exactly what I mean. This tempura was surprisingly close to what you'd find in Japan--light, airy, and perfectly crispy without feeling greasy. For dessert, we shared the green tea Basque cheesecake. It leaned a little on the dry side, but I still really enjoyed it because the matcha flavor was rich, bold, and not overly sweet. We also had a chance to chat with Akira-san behind the sushi bar, which made the evening even more enjoyable. The hospitality and attention to detail really reminded me why I've always loved this place. With so many trendy and expensive sushi restaurants in San Diego these days, this restaurant continues to stand the test of time. The quality of the fish is outstanding, the atmosphere is authentic, and I honestly think the prices are very reasonable for what you get. It's a classic for a reason, and I'll definitely be making the drive back more often.

This is not your typical sushi restaurant with the same rolls you see everywhere. Every dish was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and full of unique flavors. From the premium nigiri and sashimi to the creative specialty rolls, every plate felt like something special. The quality of the fish was outstanding, and you can tell the chefs truly care about every detail. Some of the highlights were the toro, salmon dishes, scallops, ikura, and several chef creations that were unlike anything I've tried before. Even the desserts were excellent and made a perfect ending to the meal. What impressed me most was that there wasn't a single dish I didn't enjoy. That's extremely rare. The food, presentation, atmosphere, and attention to detail were all exceptional. A huge thank you to my kids for bringing me here. Takaramono Sushi turned Father's Day into a memorable experience, and I can't wait to come back.

Some highlights: * The A5 Wagyu Tataki was delicious and one of my favorite dishes of the night. * The Uni Pasta was good, honestly some of the best uni pasta I've ever had. Rich and flavorful, but not heavy. * The Bluefin Tuna Belly, Hamachi, Hamachi Belly, Unigyu, Salmon, and Salmon Belly sushi were all fresh. * The Hon-Maguro Toro Tataki literally melted in my mouth. The toro itself was delicious, although I thought the ponzu sauce was a bit overpowering and would have preferred less of it so the fish could shine. The only item that didn't quite work for me was the Sweet Shrimp Sushi. The shrimp itself was good, but the lemon/cream topping overpowered the natural sweetness and felt unnecessary. I also wish the sushi pieces were a little bigger for the price haha. Parking can be a bit challenging since the lot is small and the spaces are tight, but there is street parking nearby. I'd come back and would recommend it to anyone looking for sushi in La Jolla. Yum!
