I decided to stop in one day for a late lunch. There's a lot of seating both indoor and outdoor. There's also an outdoor bar area where you could sit. My server was great. Very attentive and always checking in on me. I ordered scallop sushi and a spicy tuna roll. Both were good I just wish they were a bit colder? Seemed a little too room temperature for me. But overall food was really good! Towards the end I did notice that their AC was leaking into my water & onto our table. I did let the server know as I wasn't sure what was leaking and if it was safe. He didn't really seem to mind it so we just packed up our food and left. This place is just okay. 3 stars for a cold beer when you need one locally. However, I have never seen a place overstaffed and have the longest service wait times. Each time I enter the restaurant there are a minimum of 3-4 staff standing in the back near the kitchen facing the front door doing nothing. The bar area, which is the most populated area, is ran by ONE person who serves the drinks, takes food orders, delivers the foods, etc. The management is not managing this place adequately. There needs to be a change - one that is more customer focused than staff rapport. Further, the food and sushi is just okay. Rarely does food come out hot and the sushi is mediocre. I do not know how long I have missed out on this. Their portions are large and their combos of 2 whole rolls are great. They have a monthly special which was very flavorful. I think the spyder roll and the Chuck Norris were my favorite. I'll be sure to come back in. They also have an outdoor open bar if you're into that. read more

Nice sushi spot if you're in the area. The rolls and miso soup were tasty and they offer soy paper as an alternative if you prefer it. They have a cute outdoor patio and bar area. Our server was very nice and attentive. The only miss here was the garlic edamame... which for some reason had cinnamon on it? Not impressed. The best part about coming here was finding a parking spot right in front and visiting with my friend from out of town. Unfortunately everything else was a disappointment. We came here at 1215pm on a Thursday. The place was empty. We were sat fairly quickly however it took our server a good 10 minutes to greet us and get us a drink. Another 10 minutes to order and over 30 to deliver our two rolls! We finally asked him why another table who walked in after us were severed first (the only other table in the restaurant) and he said... oh, there was a big TO GO order that was ahead of you. ????? We both ordered the protein roll. My friend requested sauce on the side and he had to be reminded again since they were not brought with the rolls. I love me a good protein roll but I was very disappointed with it. It tasted more like a n imitation crab roll with whatever fish on top. I also had to ask for a refill. We came here as a big group for a birthday dinner to celebrate Husband's birthday with friends. It was super helpful that they take reservations for our party of 11. They were diligent in tending to us and getting our orders and food to us. Everything sushi was amazing. The fries were pretty good as well. Some of the non-sushi related items were not worth it. Kiddo had the chicken teriyaki bowl, rice was drenched in sauce with 5 mini pieces of overcooked chicken for $13, definitely not worth it. I'm not sure how this place has 4 stars; this was some of the worst sushi I've ever had. And, I wasn't even going in with high expectations. I got the lunch special, which comes with choices of 2 rolls and a soup. You can sub the soup for salad for $2; i did that and was disappointed it was just a plate of greens with oil and a thin sliver of carrot instead of a carrot-ginger dressing, but I should have asked. For my rolls, I got a Caterpillar (which is a more elaborate take on an Eel-Avocado roll with imitation crab) and a Spicy Tuna. The Caterpillar was in so much eel sauce it tasted like candy and the eel skin i guess was super fried because it was hard and I couldn't eat a couple pieces. The wasabi had no heat at all to try and counter it. The Spicy Tuna I only took one bite out of and the tuna was warm and of such a poor quality I didn't risk eating it; it was incredibly gross. (Plus, it came with a giant chunk of carrot in it so it was like biting down on a rock.) Awful food. Awful. Raise your bar, Point Loma. read more

Got off a work trip late and wanted to find something that was in the area of my hotel. It was easy to find right off the corner. Upon arriving not very many people but nice crowd. Menus were very sticky... please clean your menus. Good variety of rolls to choose from. I like how you can scan the menu and see actual pictures of what you want to order. It does take a while for you to get food but this my favorite can't The spider hand roll was pretty tasty. It had a a lot of avocado but still good. The house salad could've used more of the ginger dressing. That miso soup was the star of the show. So good and flavor. So hot and everything. I would come back just for this. The rolls were great. Still just as good. Six years ago I reviewed this place. We used to walk here every week before COVID (we are local) but post pandemic we haven't been eating out as often. Why? All our favorite servers left our regular places and the service declined at those places. Well...good service is back. I have NEVER had a bad experience at Sushi Lounge. The one time there was a minor hiccup in a takeout order, the owner, Katie, took comped my meal. During my most recent trip on Tuesday, February 10, I met a friend for lunch. My usual go-to is the lunch combo, unagi roll and caterpillar or spider roll with miso soup. My friend ordered a spicy tuna roll, and a spider roll. We both enjoyed our lunch and were able to enjoy the ambiance of this location, though it sadly wasn't warm enough for the large garage door like window wall to be open. My husband and I were really excited to eat here but we felt completely ignored. We were seated after walking in then shortly greeted by our server Spencer. He took our drink order then walked away to finish with another table. We waited for over 10 minutes and never received our drinks, and mind you they were not busy. My cousin and I went here not long ago and I was shocked by how much I loved everything! My cousin is gluten free and they had so many amazing options which is rare at many Asian establishments! Had a visitor in town who was craving sushi and we had only been here for a quick drink and appetizer prior to this visit. Th three of us sat at the outside bar to watch a little Padres with our meal so we were served by the bartender, Nate(?) and he was great. We were starving so we ordered 4 full rolls and a few side dishes and apps. The miso soup to start was amazing. I have been subjected to some pretty crappy miso as of late. This miso had a mushroom/umami undertone that made it so much more than the usual. We got two rolls off of the competition menu between the different locations. And two rolls off the standard menu. They were all delicious. Some more jam packed than the others and hard to get in your mouth but not a deterrent for me. I'd definitely say the competition rolls were fun but decidedly more full. Personal favorite was the happy wife. We also got some cucumber salad and seaweed salad. I didn't know the cucumber salad came with the latter as well but I enjoyed the extra and ate it all! So ono!! Some folks were still hungry so we got the salmon carpaccio style dish. It reminded me of smoked salmon on a bagel. Wasn't my fave but the fish was good and my dinner partners loved it. Throughout our meal we had pleasurable interactions with our server/bartender who balanced the thirst needs of the bar and restaurant patrons very well. Excellent experience. One of my favorite sushi spots in Point Loma. We came for the Grand Opening, and have been coming ever since; can't believe I haven't reivewed it yet, but never too late. Always good quality sushi, and interesting, unique rolls. So many good ones. The "Happy Wife" w/ spicy yellowtail, cucumber, and tempura sweet potato, topped w/ sliced salmon, albacore, avocado, cilantro and jalapeno w/ a truffle sauce is amazing. The "Chuck Norris w/ shrimp tempura, crab, cuke and topped w/ tuna, avocado, serrano chili, eel sauce and sesame chili oil is also really good; The Red Dragon, Tasmanian Devil, Ring of Fire, the Special of the Month, can't go wrong. They also have a great Happy Hour, Tue.- Sun. 3:30-5:30 pm. Between the four of us, got the Albacore Special roll ($11, reg $15) which was delicious, tempura shrimp, crab, cucumber, toped w/ albacore, avocado and green onion; my younger daughter loved the crunchy roll w/ shrimp tempura, avo, cuke and eel sauce; got a spicy tuna roll loaded w/ tuna ($7, reg $9), salmon roll ($7, was $11), a spicy tuna hand roll (just $5, reg $6, so tasty), and surprise hit - Jaimapeno - large jalapenos stuffed w/ spicy albacore, crab, avocado, and lightly tempura fried - not too heavy, and so tasty! ($9, reg $13) For non-sushi eaters (hard to believe, but they exist), there are noodles, small plates, and my mom got the Teriyaki Salmon Bento box - nice piece of salmon, rice, house salad, 4 pieces of veggie tempura, miso soup (really good) and 4 pieces of CA roll ($23); can't beat that! His voice - it was incredible... I'll get back to that in a second. This place is great. Great sushi, great service (Riley), solid ambiance, local vibe at the bar. One of the best sushi spots without taking the hike to Kearny mesa. Okay so back to his voice. The bartender was this guy with black and gold glasses. He was cool, but the coolest thing about him - He sounded identical to Danny McBride. East bound and down, Pineapple Express etc. You should go sit at this bar, and have Danny McBride's rich bourbon flavored timbre make you the drink of your dreams. The service here is good, but the sushi is terrible. I have come in maybe 5 or 6 times over the years to see if it ever got better, never has. My roommate and many friends agree with this as well. There are so many good sushi places in SD like The Joint or Kyoto sushi. I would rather spend money with a place that has higher quality sushi. This place has become my favorite sushi spot. When the worker I lead have an outstanding quarter in performance this is a place where I can provide a couple rolls as a reward and keep them happy. The ambiance is relaxed and clean (free of clutter). Service is definitely above average, but most importantly the quality of the fish is what reigns. When I paid, I was upset to see they charged us for the Ben to box. You think they would comp it , because there was a HAIR in it. My husband and I came here for our anniversary because our favorite sushi restaurant closed down (like a lot of business during this Covid era.) Wasn't sure what to expect. We made reservations just in case it was busy to avoid a wait. We were lucky to find parking close to the restaurant and pleased that it was not super busy. We were seated right away and began to explore the menu. They had daily lunch specials and Happy Hour specials 4-6pm. We were able enjoy both. For lunch were ordered a special that offered a bowl of miso soup and two rolls (picked from a list of 4 choices) the Caterpillar, Spider roll and soup shown in my pics were delicious. We liked everything so well we ordered two Rainbow Rolls, a California roll, and another Spider Rolls as part of the Happy Hour Specials and of course we washed everything down with ice cold Sapporo's. The worst one was the albacore one (second.) Can't determine what kind of tangy sauce they used for it but I think it's supposed to be Thai-inspired. We've been customers of the Sushi Lounge for years. We typically go to the Poway location since we live closest to this location. Last Saturday we ventured out to the Point Loma location for a bite to eat after a day at Sea World. We ordered 3 Chicken Katsu Bento Boxes, a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, Happy Hour California Roll, and upgraded a order of California roll from Bento Box to a Crunchy Roll - it was fantastic - delicious, fresh and tasty! The Bento Boxes offer a lot of food, they come with soup, salad, vegetable tempura and 4 California rolls. However, we upgraded one as mentioned and received $3 off one of their specialty rolls. However, on this visit, the Chicken Katsu was off. We know what we typically get, and this was not it. My kids were so hungry, they didn't care and ate it. They did say it wasn't as good as it usually is, and it definitely looked different. You can see in the picture, there is almost no panko flakes on the chicken. It made me think they refried the chicken, and they ran out of panko flakes. I'm not sure, but due to the lack of panko flakes the chicken was very dry and dark. Either way, it was not a good thing. I did mention to the waiter but was told it's the same. Not sure how we'd be able to prevent this in the future... Do we ask if they have panko flakes, or if the chicken is fresh? Maybe our best bet is to stick to our local Poway Location. read more

We had the following: Jaimepeno, which was not spicy but full of flavor. Protein roll, which had no rice, great for those who can't do carbs. Spider roll, was a bit bland in comparison to the other dishes. Our server recommended two things, and I'm so glad we tried them: Citrus chili yellowtail, which did have a kick to it, but the flavors were so perfectly balanced it was a family favorite. DISAPPOINTED on many levels, our initial greeting was last call, they weren't closing for an hour. We don't drink alcohol lol. Our server was on a planet, just not this one. We waited quite awhile just to place the order. The amount of workers doing absolutely nothing was astonishing, they were everywhere, awkward. Even with this boosted level of employees it was near impossible to get soy sauce, wasabi or a simple refill of some h20 to wash down the bento box. The meal was okay, nothing even to close to exceptional but satisfactory. We had to play the waiting game to get our check; even with numerous attempts to get the servers attention we were un-successful. Customer service is vital to a restaurants success for the long run. I'm hoping this was an isolated incident, other tables seemed to be getting more attention instead of being stared at from a distance. This server didn't earn a tip and their won't be a return trip. Any friends, family members, co-workers, associates and fellow citizens will be made aware of this unfortunate situation. I'm a generous Yelper, this was piss-poor. read more
