My friend and I always try to meet for dinner once a week to catch up and last night she decided to have some sushi and suggested Obba as it's her absolute favorite. We decided to order ahead online (definitely a plus) and pick up ourselves to enjoy dinner at her home. It is located on the first floor of a condominium tucked away in a corner. The restaurant has very simple decor with tables throughout. I asked where I can pick up my food and was directed to the take out cashier (after looking around confused) and no one helped. Mark A. wanted to come here because we saw that an artist would be showcasing their stuff, and the event came with free samples & cocktails. The location seems to be tucked away and hidden, connected to a hotel (I think?), but pretty view near the water. Although the event didn't meet our expectations (I'm not here to review the event), the food was satisfying. We ordered the Temptation Roll & Rainbow Roll. 2 for 1 happy hour special! Both were good, but Temptation was the better of the two with the seared tuna being the star. Delicious! Unfortunately, the service did not match the sushi whatsoever. We waited forever for everything. At first I thought that they weren't serving us because we originally asked if this was where the art event was. I assumed that we weren't "regular" customers then, and I was waiting for something special to happen aka the event to start. Within our first ten minutes this place rubbed us the wrong way. We came as a group we got our waters and hot tea, politely asked for sugar. Server says ok... Takes appetizer orders walks away... Still waiting for sugar for our tea, the server returns I ask again politely for sugar she replies ok. After 20 minutes I decide to get up to find a server to ask for sugar. I just got back from my trip to Tokyo and had a hard week of work...so with no food in the refrigerator and an empty stomach, I needed food....like NOW...I remember picking up the flyer one day as I was running in Brickell and had been meaning to try them. Well now is the time, so phone in hand, I searched for the first thing that jumped out at me. I ordered the Wakame Salad and the Spicy Tuna Crunch. The menu is immense, so there are options galore- overall, the Wakame was fresh and perfectly seasoned. You get a good portion so I was already happy. The Spicy Tuna Crunch was nice, though I found the rice to be a teensy bit on the mushy side (mind you, I just got back from Japan so I may be a bit biased). What I think I'll go for next time is the "Rice-Less Rolls". The selections look and sound delectable, and the prices as well. My pros- They Deliver!!!! I had my order in no time. Now that is convenience and it makes me a happy woman! Living around the corner I also know I can walk on over and sit by the bay. I held off on reviewing Obba because my first experience with them was less then stellar...but that was about two years ago and now they have more then redeemed themselves. the past three times I've gotten delivery from them the food has been absolutely excellent - fresh clean fish, tasty combinations, good sized portions, creative options, large extensive menu, reasonable prices, fast delivery, and the orders are always right. I mean, at this point I would easily give them a 4.5 if I could. I've had the tuna tataki, the hamachi jalapeno, the miso soup, the wakame salad, spicy tuna roll, spicy tuna crunch roll, the Tom-Su roll (tuna, avocado, masago wrapped in cucumber), and more and every single thing has been excellent! there is no shortage of sushi places in the Brickell area but this one has proved itself to be one of the most consistently reliable. I'm only resisting a higher rating till I actually dine in the restaurant and can judge the whole package. definitely recommend and will certainly be eating here on a regular basis. read more

But today was the exception. I always order the same thing except one roll always rotates: Tuna Tartar Pork Gyozas (fried if I'm feeling naughty) Jalapeño Popper (last meal when I die) Sophie Roll Temptation Roll I love it all! Worst customer service ever! And it's not the first time. It does not matter how many opportunities you give them, it's the same. I ordered an hour and 35 minutes ago. I live 2 min driving from the restaurant and I still haven't gotten my order, which I was supposed to get in 45-60 min. I've been calling since 30 min ago, and they keep saying my order should be just getting there because it was the last one, but in the last call I was told there're more orders, lack of personal and the manager supposedly is doing the deliveries, and I have to options: wait for around 15-20 min more or cancel. This used to be my go to sushi restaurant in the Brickell area since it was so close to where I live. Unfortunately the quality of the product started to suffer, as well as the level of service. I think the size of the restaurant and the increased patron traffic led to this, but that is not an excuse I accept...businesses need to learn to adapt and grow with success. After posting my past review, I was contacted by Obba with apologies and sincerity. They wanted to make it up to us for our previous experience, and I have to say my co workers and I were not disappointed. We received an amazing delivery/dinner and amazing customer service. I have amended my previous decision to not order from here. They acknowledged that they had previously lacked attention to detail and wanted to correct it. This restaurant has showed me that they truly care about their customers as well as their business. Any other business would not have cared about a negative review or try to fix it for that matter. I want to like this place so bad. I live so close and it would be my go to place for dinner if it were better. But it's just not. I've had the sushi there once. And that was enough. My mom and I both agreed that it tasted bad. The fish didn't taste fresh, which is not what you want when you're ordering sushi. I dont really know why there are so many bad reviews if this tiny place is actually very adorable. It has about 20+ chairs and is right on the bay overlooking key Biscayne. Like a reverse and incredibly humble Rusty Pelican. I do, however, undestand what everyone meant about the miso soup, its terrible and either the chef is very happy or his taste buds are non existent because the soup is incredibly salty. The suggestion by my co-worker to get take-out was very smart, it's within walking distance from my job and you can't really beat 16 pieces of a JB roll + soup or salad for $11 + tax. I have been ordering delivery through Living Social from Obba for the past few weeks, and I always look forward to lunch from there! I get their lunch special- $8.99 for a california roll, chicken teriyaki, and a soup or salad. I usually ask for no crab and just do a veggie roll with cucumber and avocado, and there hasn't been an issue with special requests. My order is always correct which is more than I can say for most places that deliver in the area. The chicken teriyaki isn't amazing, but very tasty, especially for the price. I was surprised to see all of the bad reviews, but I can honestly say that delivery for lunch is awesome and really good value, even with the $2 delivery fee. read more

I really, really, really wanted to like this place. It was a laid back Sunday dinner perfect for some light snacks and drinks. I ordered the scallops and the lychee martini. The lychee martini came out. Eh? Where are the lychee garnishes? And, why is the drink pink? They were out of lychees as well as lychee juice so someone decided to concoct something for me without asking me. Hmmm, that was nice, I guess? This would have been forgotten had the drink been good. I took two sips and couldn't take anymore. My water was tastier. The scallops came out. I. Love. Scallops. There were four pieces as part of the app dish. Hmmmm. They didn't taste fresh, but I ate them by drowning them in the sauce they were served with because by this time I had sent back my drink and was too embarrassed to also send my app back. So I unfortunately had to knock this place down a star for their delivery policy. My firm orders over $200 dollars worth of sushi from them about once a month, plus we all walk there for lunch quite frequently. We work literally a block aw, however when you're working late you have to order at least $20 dollar worth of sushi for them to deliver to the office. Pretty ridiculous. I'm pretty excited to write this review. Obba represents a restaurant that in its space, in its location, at its price point, it does very well. I am not thrilled with the sushi, thus the knocked off one star, but the tartar, the trio salad and the accompanying beers all made me exceedingly happy. The Kimchee Tuna Tartar (large portion), a Sapporo beer and a trio salad will set you back $20-25 bucks. And its a perfect meal that feels healthy and tastes great. Perfect quick bite before a night out. Excellent for those living in the Brickell area. I will make this a regular spot whenever/if-ever I move back to Miami. read more

The dish described above had chunks of avocado. Every single chunk was ROCK HARD. Now when I say ROCK hard, I mean I could have busted a filling or something trying to eat this thing. We told the waitress who was boorish and rude since we arrived (we were one of TWO tables eating there - we sat outside) and she says: "OH, Avocados aren't in season you know?" This was spring in Miami, regardless of the season though, I have always found ripe avocado. I eat Sushi every season out of the year, and I never have had rock hard avocado. Our next dish--we hope for redemption. It's a roll with tuna on top, but the only thing INSIDE the roll? Giant chunk of ROCK HARD avocado. At this point I'm angry. I ask for the manager. Manager is not in that night. She tells me -- you can talk to the chef. She motion to the inside of the restaurant. The chef is looking at us chuckling to his staff with his arms crossed. Shouldn't the chef come out and apologize himself? I'm supposed to get up and tell him why I am upset? Not to mention: to CUT an avocado that is ROCK HARD requires EXTRA FORCE. The other reviews are interesting but I have always wondered why this place gets so many bad reviews. Of course, I haven't tried all dishes, so let me only refer to what I have tasted there MANY times, which are their suhi rolls. They are truly excellent rolls. I have gone to almost every single sushi place in Miami, including the highly overrated (in my humble opinion) Zuma, and these guys beat them soundly. Why? I think it is a combination of quality of construction and well thought combination of flavors. They are not too large (like some places in Miami offer), nor too small to make them ridiculous snacks. They are well balanced in flavor and I have never tried one I haven't liked. The location is a bit weird (the one on Bayshore), but the quality of the food is great, at least when it comes to the sushi. Service? Not that bad in the sense that they at least come by, take your order, bring the food, and leave you alone. When you compare with the rest of Miami, it is somewhat average. Their prices should come down a bit, but in general this is a good sushi place. read more

All the seafood was fresh and service was quick. We had a lot of different plates and I tasted every single one. There is weirdly a lack of good sushi places in brickell/downtown area. This review is for a delivery order so I cannot comment on the service. My food was delivered in less than an hour and it was great and reasonably priced. The kimchee tuna tartar was FANTASTIC. I also ordered the #16 lunch special which included a spicy tuna and spicy crab roll as well as a ginger salad for only 12.99. I like how they offer brown rice as well. They have an online ordering system that is quick and painless and only charge $2 delivery fee (most restaurants in this area charge more). Will definitely be ordering from them again! read more

I have to agree with a comment I saw below and is the reason I decided to write this review. The food is so good! However, that terrible customer service has been the final straw for me. I have come to this place for years to dine in. Food is good customer service not the best, had to be asking for refills for water and the food took a long time to be served. Which is fine because I expect that when I dine in. I recently started working close by the place and I've gone on 3 occasions to get lunch. The first time I put the order and I arrived too soon so I had to wait, I guess that was my bad. What was not my bad was asking the girl I asked if I could pay for my food already and just pick up after to which she rudely declined and claimed for me i had to get my food first. I didn't understand but okay, whatever stupid rule, moving on! I went for a second time to get lunch. I placed the order online and I put to pick up at 12:30 pm and I got there on time to which I find this bitchy faced server and I'm rudely greeted (I swear I don't know where they find these bitter disgruntled people, might be a job requirement - I don't know!) I told her I had placed an order and she said she had nothing for me that my order had been placed for the following day instead of day of (stupid website preset ), and they claimed that they had tried calling me to confirm if it was for tomorrow or today but i had no missed call. I'm positive they didn't call me. I accept blame, okay fine maybe it was my bad I'll wait for the food. I had ordered a jalapeño popper, which is my favorite roll - possibly ever and I get told I had to wait 30 minutes. I'm baffled that 6 small pieces of sushi could possibly take so long. They made zero effort to try to accommodate my order or even pretend to dang it! So I get upset and I go wait. I come back and the girl tells me it's still not ready and I become annoyed once again because again 6 pieces people! She allows me to pay and as she is about to get the food I ask for spicy mayo and eel sauce and she said she had to charge me again because the sauce was not free. And I once again become astonished at how they did not even try to accommodate me even though I was already inconvenienced by website, wait time, additional wait time, and attitude. I have no shame in admitting I became angry towards the server because I was like really you're going to charge me for the two sauces after I have had to wait over 40 minutes for 6 pieces of overpriced sushi? The bitchy face became rude once again and instead of trying to ease the situation she aggravated it more by catching an attitude with me and condescendingly "giving me the sauces for free". I got my food and I walked away displeased. Today, I went for the third time in the hopes the last time was just a bad day. I ordered my food at 12:09 pm and I requested to have it ready ASAP. I made sure that I ordered on the correct date and included in the instructions the eel sauce and spicy mayo sauce I wanted. I waited until 12:40 pm to go pick up food since I have had to always wait. To my surprise as I'm about to pull up I get a call that my food is ready. I was so happy that finally I was going to have a smooth order pick up. I walk up to the side door that is available for pick up during COVID-19 since there is no dine in option. I see the server on the phone and I tap on the window and I see him turn and look at me and continue his phone conversation. I might not be a customer service expert but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to place the call on hold and pay attention to your customer that is in front of you. The conversation went on for at least 2 minutes and I became annoyed and bothered. The gentlemen wrapped up his call and came to door with my order and verified my name. I asked him if I could give him advice without taking offense and I told him when you have a customer in front you put the phone on hold and assist the customer, he replies I was on the phone I didn't see you, to which I responded I tapped on the window and said he did see me and he said no I didn't I had my mask to the side and honestly let's say it's true, why are you trying to defend yourself to a customer? By that time, it's too late. You have to simply apologize and move on whether you agree or not with your customer. It's CUSTOMER SERVICE! Honestly, I would've given a 1 star but because I love the food I gave it 2 but the terrible snappy, customer service has dragged what could be 5 star to a 2 star. I hope the owner or someone in management takes the time to read these reviews and examine their customer service. You lost a customer today, don't continue to let your staff drive away regular customers for trash unacceptable behaviors. Ordered dinner for delivery. They charged me $2 delivery fee. The food is okay. I have ordered sashimi, rolls, tartar, and noodle soups here. The fish / avocado isn't the freshest but its decent. I really order here for the spicy tuna tartar or salmon avocado tartar ( a small size gives you a good portion). Otherwise, the rolls seem a bit expensive. Their packaging for delivery is great though. They give you all the utensils plus more for just in case. They package everything very neatly and presentable. read more
