My family of 4 arrived at 630pm for Father's day dinner last Sunday as this was hubby's choice. The restaurant was pretty much busy with a couple of vacant tables that needed to be cleaned up. We were greeted instantly and waited about 5 mins for our table. There are about 12-15 tables for party of 4s, maybe even a few tables more as there were 2 large groups there with tables put together to accomodate them. There are TV screens at every wall for you to watch the FIFA World Cup soccer game that was in progress. The menu was brought out instantly and after we ordered, sauces/utensils/bowl for trash and water was brought out. I like that each table has a service button which works effectively and the response to attend to our needs is met promptly. We ordered the following: 1. Hu Tieu Xao Bo (Beef Chow Fun): Different from the Chinese version. A very large portion with a generous amount of ingredients esp vegetables and noodles. It was well flavored though a little on the sweeter side. Not dried nor too moist as some restaurant has way too much sauce making it very soupy. My 13yo barely dented the plate. 2. Pho Ap Chao Bo (Crispy Fried Noodle w/ Beef): Another large portion with a generous amount of ingredients. Well flavored but on the sweeter side. My only disappointed was that the crispy noodles were in broken bits instead if small chunky square pieces and there wasn't much fried noodles to begin with compared to the beed chow fun dish. My 10yo also didn't finish this. 3&4. Hao Nuong Moi Hanh (Grilled Oysters with green onion oil), Oc Mong Tay Mo Hanh (Grilled razor clam with green onion oil): Comes on a sizzling plate so it's very hot. Shellfish is cleaned well as I didn't taste any sand and there is no ocean smell. It's cooked perfectly and has a nice crunchy texture. It taste good but the green onion oil could more flavorful but I guess that's why there are sauces for you to dip. 5. Oc Len Xao Dua (Top snail in coconut sauce): Cleaned well and tip of shell cut perfectly for us to get the snail out easily. Creamy and not too salty but on the sweeter side. 6. Muc Ong Nuong Muoi Ot (Grilled squid seasoned with salt & chili): This was my favorite dish as I love anything squid and octopus. It was grilled perfectly as it's not over/under cooked and there is a nice crunch to it. It was nicely seasoned, not too salty or too spicy as you can taste the flavor of the squid. Overall, the service was good ans I enjoyed the seafood dishes we ordered. They were yummy dishes to pair with a nice cold beer. Although some dishes is on the sweeter side but it's not overly sweet and the flavor can easily be adjusted with sriracha or soy sauce if preferred.I'll definitely will return with hubby in the future as I dont think my boys enjoyed it as much as we did. read more

Our group of eight visited on a Saturday early evening, and the experience started strong--no waitlist and immediate seating, which is always a pleasant surprise for a weekend. The customer service throughout the meal was excellent. Staff checked in frequently, refilled water and sauces without being asked, and remained patient and attentive even as the restaurant got busier. Food arrived within a reasonable timeframe, and most dishes were genuinely delicious. We ordered Hàu nướng, Bò tái chanh, Cơm cháy kho quẹt với rau luộc, Bắp xào tôm, Canh chua cá basa, and cơm trắng. The flavors were vibrant and comforting--exactly what you'd hope for from a spot known for nhậu-style dishes. The only disappointment was the cá basa in the canh chua, which unfortunately wasn't fully cooked. Since the staff were extremely busy, I didn't get a chance to bring it up, but it's something I hope they pay closer attention to in the future. Because of that, I'm taking off one star. One thing to note: the noise level can get pretty high, making conversation a bit challenging. It fits the lively nhậu atmosphere, but it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for a quieter dining experience. Oc Cay Dua is located in San Jose, which is known for it's Vietnamese food. We went there specifically to eat snails, since it's rare in the Bay Area too find a restaurant that serves them. Everything was cooked well, and the tastes were great! I wasn't the biggest fan of the egg yolk sauce, mostly because it did not have a very strong taste, and ended up being a bit bland. I also wish that the portion sizes were larger, since there weren't that many snails for the price. I enjoyed the experience overall, and would recommend trying this place out if you like snails! read more

my friend was craving oc so we came here and were not disappointed. it was actually so good we had to order seconds. their salted fish fried rice was also really good. i liked all the sauces that they provided as well. i had recently come back from a vietnam trip and it reminded me of the seafood restaurants i had there. very authentic, love the variety of dishes they served. service was also really good. he checked in on us and made fun of my friend's australian accent, which was funny. can't give it a 5 because it is pretty pricey and there wasn't that much oc per dish. we ended up getting tacos somewhere else after as well. read more

My family always comes here whenever we're craving Vietnamese cuisine. The portions are generous, and the dishes are packed with so much flavor. They give you 3 types of sauce on the side if you want to pair it with any of the food. We always get the grilled pork with rice (4.5/5), razor clams with vegetables (5/5), and the grilled beef rolled in lolot leaves (5/5). The last one is a must try! I expected something complimentary in return for their mistake, but nothing was offered. Also, I think the quality has gone down from how it was back then. The fish in the Canh Chua was definitely frozen since the texture was tougher than if it were to be fresh. The restaurant was clean and had nice decor, giving it a nice environment to eat/drink. We ordered the balut, snails, and veal. The food was okay, nothing to rave about. I do wish the balut was made fresh after we order. I felt like the balut had been sitting there. The veal was not great, maybe it's because the sauce was made different and it didn't cut the anchovy smell. Wish it had more lime flavor to it. The good: My family tried this place for the first time recently after a recommendation we got from some friends that love to eat "nhau" food. I got the seafood hot pot, goi oc rau muong (snail salad) with rice crackers, quail, and snails with herbs and peanuts all for to-go. All of these dishes were really unique and well seasoned (or came with a sticky/thick and tasty fish sauce concoction). The highlight was the broth for the hot pot. It was super flavorful and tasty and reminded me of Vietnamese canh chua dish. It has a sweet and sour taste, similar to Thai hot pot. The seafood hot pot came with shrimp, roe filled fish balls, fish balls, vegetables, clams, fried fish cake and more. The clams were fresh (they were even moving). The shrimp were also fresh. I liked that the snails came with wooden sticks for you to pry the clam out. The bad: The quail didn't have much meat on them so it isn't something I'd order again. The interesting: They gave tons of soup for the hot pot so we had a lot of leftover that we used later on for more hot pot nights at home. We just added water because the flavor condensed. They offered me sauce to go with my meal and were friendly and welcoming. The coconut snails were really delicious. Sweet while also having an umami taste and a tender bite. It's fun to suck on the snails just be careful to not choke on the little piece at the entrance of the hole. I recommend getting rice or a baguette to soak up that delicious coconut broth it was cooked it. We ended up ordering A1 (hot vit lon), A7 (bo nuong la lot), A15 (cua lot chien gion), 03 (so long nuong mo hanh), and 11C (oc mong tay xao sa ot). A1 hot vit lon (2 balut eggs): My friend was the only one who ate this. She didn't comment on anything and ate it all, so I can only assume it tasted how it should be. A7 bo nuong la lot (grilled beef rolled in lolot leaves): The seasoning was nice, but the size of the meat was pretty fat? My friend said the one she eats is usually skinnier and longer, so she prefers that. I agree with her too, but for what it was, it was still good. A15 cua lot chien gion (deep-fried soft shell crabs): My personally fav! Never knew the shell could be so soft that you could just eat it like shrimp. Good seasoning and it wasn't too heavily battered either. 03 so long nuong mo hanh (grilled cockles with onions): Not a fan of hard shelled seafood, but it was pretty good! It does have a very oystery-like taste, which I don't know if it's normal cause again, don't usually eat it. Warning: the dish splatters a lot when it's first out, so BE CAREFUL. 11C oc mong tay xao sa ot (razor clams stir-fried with lemongrass & chili): We all thought it was gonna be shelled for some reason, but it came out unshelled. I was scared to try at first cause it looked funny, but it ended up being one of the tastier dishes! It was the less fishy-tasting of shelled seafood, so that's a huge reason why I liked it. I will say the plating makes it look not appetizing, but don't let the looks deceive you! As for the service, no comment on that since we didn't need anything and there were no issues. Came in at 4pm on a Friday as they open at 3pm. No one was around because two people eating. That was the first sign something was up. When you have 3x more staff than customers it's not a good sign. We decided to order Togo and bring it home to eat. Ordered the razor calms, was told there's no more. Fine we got the snails instead. Ordered the friend rice and it was decent, has a crunch to it which I like. Then I order the octopus which after I paid they told me there's no more. So I was told the squid is just as good. Total over $60. Got home and opened the squid dish and boy was I disappointed. They used a normal today size container but when you open it it's maybe 1/4 the size of the container as you can see in the picture. They put in maybe 8 pieces of slice calamari. This was a total rip off and let me tell you it was over cooked as if they just recooked the old dish. The edges had color to it but it was dry and chewy. This is the last time I'm coming here. When a restaurant has a whole bunch of items on their menu, normally it won't be good because they don't specialize in anything. This spot had 10.r 10.b. Etc. it was over kill. read more

Dined in for the first time. Had their chicken congee in the past...several times and we really like it. So we decided to check the place out and other items they have to offer. We arrived and were told where to sit. We sat down at 9:06pm and only took a couple mins to decide. There were about 3-4 servers walking past our table serving food and cleaning up other tables. None of the servers made eye contact with us when walking past. Our table went ignored for 18 minutes...until I went to the front counter and mentioned that I was sitting by the fish tanks and would like to place my order. The person at the front counter said okay sorry I'll send someone over. One of the servers who had walked past us several times before without acknowledging us showed up immediately to take our order. There were 2 big parties while we were there plus a couple other tables. I understand that it's a lot to deal with as a server and it might take awhile to get to us but that doesn't excuse not even being acknowledged or the lack of communication. Just a simple "hi I'll be with you in a few minutes" would suffice. We ordered combination fried rice, vermicelli bowl w/ grilled shrimp & pork and chicken congee. The food we had here was really really good. Everything was perfectly seasoned. Flavorful and delicious. The fried rice had a nice touch with the crisp bits of rice in it. The vermicelli bowl had a good ratio of lettuce, cucumber etc in it. The grilled shrimp and pork in the bowl was absolutely delicious. The chicken congee we've had many times and was very good. The only thing would be nice to have white pepper on the side for the congee. I would give the food here a legit 4.5-5 If the food weren't good for this visit it would've been a 1. But because the food was so good. It's a 4. A great gem of a spot, just don't expect the fastest service if it's busy. read more
