Our friend, who knows San Jose well, wanted us to try Saigon Kitchen because they serve authentic Vietnamese dishes that you would get in Vietnam. 4 of us dined here on a weekday for lunch at around noon. Thankfully, it wasn't crowded, so we were seated right away. Saigon Kitchen is a fairly large restaurant that can accommodate many, including large parties for special occasions. The ambiance was tropical and nature-inspired with bamboo and wood furnishings. Service was friendly and efficient, with each dish coming out promptly. ***OUR PICKS*** GÒI XOĀI TÔM KHÔ ~ Shredded green mango with dry shrimp and carrot in fish sauce with prawn crackers. This one gets your appetite going with a zesty and spicy dressing! The dry shrimp was a bit hard to chew, though. Boiled shrimp would have been better, but it was still a tasty starter. 4/5 BĀNH HÒI TÔM THIT NUŌC KHÔ ~ Fine Rice Vermicelli With BBQ Pork and Shrimp. A sizable platter with all the fixings, including rice papers and warm water to make your own spring rolls. A fun, hands-on experience that was delicious and satisfying! 5/5 BŪN RIÊU CUA ~ Crab Noodles Soup With Crab Cake, Pork Rib, Fried Tofu, and Pork Ham. I've never eaten this popular noodle soup, so I can't really say if it's on point. I thought it was good, but my companions had better elsewhere and said it was lacking real crab roe. 3.5/5 BĀNH BÈO CHÉN (5) ~ Steamed rice cakes with dry minced shrimp, pork rind, and fish sauce. I've heard of this dish being sold exclusively in specialty shops, but never had it before. I enjoyed the crunchy pork rind toppings and soft texture of the steamed rice cakes. Dipping it into fish sauce (nuoc cham) makes it taste so much better, so don't forget it! 5/5 CÁ QUAY DÙA XIÊM DA GIÒN ~ Crispy Roasted Catfish Served with Rice Paper, Fresh Herbs, Vermicelli, and Fermented Fish Sauce. The catfish was fried till most of the bones were crunchy and edible, while the bigger bones were easily removed. The fish was an impressive size, prepared well, and it was tender. We got this dish last, so we were pretty full, but we managed to eat most of the fish. 4.5/5 If you've never had anything but Pho at a Vietnamese restaurant, you're missing out! Everything we ordered was appetizing, fresh, and beautifully presented. Saigon Kitchen was truly an authentic taste of Vietnam. A solid 4.5 stars!

This location offers a broad menu with all the typical family-style Vietnamese dishes. We ordered a wide variety of favorites--including Bun Bo Hue (not pictured)--but unfortunately, most dishes fell short. Several items were either dry, overcooked, or lacking proper seasoning. The lobster, in particular, was drenched in a thick layer of buttery sauce. It was served cooler than it should have been, causing the butter to solidify on the shell and making it taste overly heavy and greasy. Overall, the food was average. The portion sizes were decent, but the pricing felt on the higher end for Vietnamese cuisine, especially considering the execution.

The restaurant has nice modern decor and spacious seatings. Ordered their sugar cane juice which was not what I had expected as they added calamansi to the sugar cane drink which alter the taste of the juice itself. I was expecting pure sugar cane juice. It was refreshing nevertheless. My spouse orders Banh Hoi Tom Thit Nuong which was served on a very nice bamboo tray. It came with rice vermicelli, bbq pork and shrimp. I ordered their crab noodle soup which came with good portion of meat, tofu and vegetables. The broth tasted better when you add their "shrimp paste" to it. The steam rice cake was just average and not as fresh, soft and tender as the ones I had at other places. For vegetarians, they have some good selection of dishes to offer. Overall huge menu with lots of entree dishes as well.

Grilled fish was flavorful and cooked well, and the cheesy oysters were rich and super satisfying!!

Everything we ordered was delicious! The grilled fish, baked oysters, fried chicken wings, and snails were all super flavorful. Great ambiance and friendly service!

I visited Saigon Kitchen with a group of seven and we shared a variety of dishes, including gỏi bò tái chanh (rare beef "cooked" with lime juice served with onions, bell peppers and shrimp crackers), mussels with garlic, bò 7 món (seven courses of beef), đậu hũ rang muối (salted crispy tofu), bánh khọt (mini fried rice pancakes with shrimp), canh chua cá bông lau (sweet and sour catfish soup), bò lúc lắc (shaking beef over garlic noodles), and a large order of rice. This ended up being just the right amount of food with no leftovers to take home. Of the dishes we ordered, the group's favorite was definitely the salted crispy tofu. The outside was generously seasoned with salt and pepper, the outside had a nice crunchy shell, and the tofu on the inside had a soft, silken texture. I wish this dish came with more pieces because one per person was not enough. Another dish I really enjoyed was gỏi bò tái chanh. I really enjoyed the sourness of the dish and the thin cut of the beef reminded me of perfectly cooked roast beef. If there's one dish I'd personally recommend, it would be this one. Just a side not -- if you end up ordering seven courses of beef, gỏi bò tái chanh is included as one of the preparations of beef. One dish that had room for improvement was the shaking beef: the beef pieces were a bit tough (read: overcooked), but I appreciated that the garlic noodles weren't overly oily and they had a nice chew to it. Overall, I had a pretty decent meal at Saigon Kitchen. I had an opportunity to try out many dishes and sides I had not tried before, including the sweet and sour catfish soup, gỏi bò tái chanh, and mắm nêm -- a fermented dipping sauce made from anchovies, and there were some very memorable dishes I'd gladly order again. I am stilling waiting for the Venmo split from our friend that picked up the check, but Saigon Kitchen is definitely fancier than your average weekday neighborhood Vietnamese lunch spot and is priced accordingly. Worth checking out at least once if you're in the area.

Fried fish. Decent. $65 fed 2 to 3 people

Usually we would go to Anh Hong but they were closed so we came here to check out their fish. It was decent, it had a good crisp to it. It lacked a little flavor. The customer service was ok. First lady was fast and efficient, we did come an hour before coming so they wanted to get us in and out, it wasn't rushed though. Would I come back? Maybe to try something else.

Vietnamese macaroni pasta and steak. Fish.

Service was polite/helpful and ambiance was decent. However I was pretty disappointed with the food. It felt old, oily, especially with the braised meats and fish. The texture was dry and extremely salty. (I'm sorry to say, but I threw up after the meal because I couldn't stomach it. I kept having that old and oily aftertaste. I'm not sure if this was a one time thing with the food served that day, or my stomach had issues that day). My family also ordered the steak and Vietnamese pasta, the steak was very poorly seasoned, salty, chewy (with a bit more fat) and distasteful. The only good thing we ate was the catfish hotpot, which was the redeeming entree. But regardless, probably won't be back. Again, service is good but quite displeased with the food.

Very good , and I love the sugarcane!

The food and service is amazing !! This incredible Vietnamese spread was an absolute masterclass in fresh, vibrant, and authentic flavors. Every dish excelled, from the perfectly crisp garlic water spinach to the deeply savory, caramelized clay pot. It was a phenomenal, comforting meal that I already cannot wait to order again.

Solid spot for Vietnamese food in San Jose, and overall I had a really good experience. The restaurant has a casual, comfortable vibe, and the menu has plenty of options, whether you're coming for something quick or a full meal. The food itself was flavorful, fresh, and came out hot--you can tell they know what they're doing in the kitchen. Portions were generous, too, which always makes the meal feel worth it. What stood out most was the quality of the food. Everything tasted well-balanced and comforting, the kind of place you could easily come back to when you're craving Vietnamese food without overthinking it. The only reason this isn't a full 5 stars for me was the service timing. Our waiter took a while to check in on us and it sometimes felt like we were waiting longer than expected for attention. Nothing rude -- just a bit slow. Best for: Casual meals, family dinners, or anyone looking for reliable Vietnamese food in San Jose.

The bánh bèo is delicious - they're generously sized and comparable to what I've had in Vietnam! Would recommend!

I highly recommend order online in advance as the wait can be about 30-40 minutes. Upon arriving, the inside was packed with people waiting for their orders. I ordered the 6 eggrolls and asked for 3 regular eggrolls and 3 netted eggrolls so that I could try both. The eggrolls come with veggies (lettuce, mint, and cilantro). It also came with pickled veggies and fish sauce. I also ordered 4 of their nem nuong as not every Vietnamese spot offers this type of spring roll. These have grilled pork in them rather than pork and shrimp. It comes with its own sauce which I'm not sure what its made of. The nem nuong were delicious with the grilled pork and there is a crispy component inside, too. They taste fresh and the sauce is tangy. I like the addition of the small chili sauce they give you on the side. The real show stoppers have to be the eggrolls though. They are perfectly crispy and filled with delicious pork filling. The veggies they provide are really fresh and the pickled veggies helps to add more depth. The eggrolls themselves don't feel too heavy or oily either which I really appreciated. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly when I was picking up. Overall, I would definitely recommend this spot and can imagine how their party trays must be a big hit!

I was a bit skeptical of getting a hot noodle soup on a hot day, but I figured it'd be great to find a solid bun rieu spot closer to me than my current defaults all the way in Milpitas. The #1 came out first and rather quickly, the #10 took a bit longer but wasn't a long wait by any means. The first thing I noticed was that the plate of add-ins was rather unique, I've never received perilla leaves or banana flowers with my bun rieu before. The broth had great flavor and this soup did come with pork blood cubes. I would definitely come back for the bun rieu. Hot soup noodle soup on a hot day wasn't actually so bad. I tried some of the Special Rice Rolls and felt unsure, maybe it's an acquired taste but I wasn't an immediate fan.

Food was well presented and looked great, however it was not hot, but it wasn't cold. It seemed like it had been sitting out for a while as the Bun Ba Hue we ordered was mildly hot...it also lacked depth and spice. We ordered medium spice level as we thought that would be a great balance and not too overly spicy...it was not spicy at all. The soup temperature was mildly hot. Like just above warm really. We also had their vermicelli plate. The plate was cold. The pork was dry and a bit chewy. Almost like it was precooked and microwaved later on. I was not pleased. The fish sauce that came with the plate was sweet. That wasn't something I expected. It did help the moisten the pork. The egg rolls we ordered were not hot at all. The inside were soft and mushy. The crust was crunchy but the inside of the egg rolls were not to my liking. Really expected more due to the name being Hue.
