I suppose this place is alright...what is there to compare it to? Drive in theaters are a thing of the past, and in my opinion, for good reason!!! There are so many reasons not to see a movie at the drive in. One, picture quality is not great. There are lights from the road and from the concession stand that make it a bit bleak. I feel like the screen is not NEARLY bright enough to see it clearly. To me it feels very substandard compared to what we are used to these days. Two, comfortable seating! Do you love spending hours in your car or some cheap foldable chair you would use at a parade or a blanket on the ground? I don't. Considering you drive in to see 2 movies in one night, that's almost 4 hours of this. If I am going to watch 2 movies in one sitting, I'm doing that at home! Three, weather! During the hot months you deal with gnats, mosquitoes, and hot humid misery. During the cooler months, it can get uncomfortably cold and you'll want to get in the car and put on the heat...except most likely your parking lights will come on and someone will yell at you to turn them off... = misery. Four, concession shop with fewer options and scary smelly outdoor restrooms. :( The price is cheaper than a regular theater but not by that much, at least for 2 people. Really, I see no reason at all to come here except for maybe giving your kids a history lesson or something. Amazing to be able to go to an actual drive in! We saw Finding Dory and Through the Looking Glass, but we're not reviewing the movies are we. It's only $7 per person for a double feature which is hard to complain about. They make their money off the concession stand, so if you like the place yoy should at least buy some popcorn. The food Isn't amazing but what do you expect. It's about compareable to any other theater and you're coming here for the experience of a drive in not for for gourmet food. Overall it was a great experience. Very cheap movies and the novelty of a drive in is, in my opinion, hard to overstate. read more

Went here for the first time tonight to see Star Wars. What a great experience ! It was only $6 per person. There was plenty of space and we were able to see the screen clearly. You tune into a certain station to hear the sound. The concession stand had good prices- wayyyyy cheaper than in a regular theater. We also go to see two movies for thr price of one. I am in love with this place! It is so much fun and there is nothing else like it! It is sooo worth the drive! It is extremely cheap as far as movie prices go. You pay $7 per person and then you can stay for one or two movies (stay for two). The screen is huge!!!! And it maintains a pretty clear picture! There is a cute concession stand that is a little pricey, but worth it as part of the experience. You can sit in your car and listen on your radio, or bring a chair/blanket and enjoy the night air! It is great for groups and kids! There is a large grassy area that the kiddos can run around in if they get bored. Tips: Eat some food before you go, make sure you have cash because they are cash only!!!!! Also, try to stay for both movies- it is so worth it! Look up! The stars out there are fantastic! read more

This is my second time at the Ocala Drive-in. The first time I came here everything was awesome although prices were a bit high. My second time coming here (October 26th 2019) staff was quite rude as well as they had messed up the times on their website, which made us pay for a movie they didn't even play at that time. They messed up the audio and film, they started projecting the movie at the half-way point instead of the beginning. They didn't realize this until 5 minutes after. My boyfriend owns a 2015 Jetta and when only the battery is on he has dim headlights. Someone who works here (an older man) came up to us and told us to turn them off. I politely said, "I'm not sure how to turn them off, only the battery is on." He then proceeded to say, "turn them off" while I still continued to say, "I don't know how." He started to get defensive and cut me off saying, "humor me, let me show you." My boyfriend had to use the restroom earlier and when he came out of the building a worker had been blocking his path just smoking a cigarette. It had rained all day and since the worker was sitting in the only dry path he was forced to walk into the puddle while the worker watched. The workers need to understand that some people come from across Florida to see a drive-in movie (we personally drove over 3 hours), and being rude to customers ruins our experience! read more

I love this idea, the old fashioned drive-in movie theme is absolutely up my alley. I loved the old cartoons and commercials they played. The dunes were super helpful for getting a great spot without obstructions. The price is unbeatable, even concessions. We drove 2 hours to come and I would definitely say it was worth the drive. I also loved that they postponed the movie until it was dark enough so we could have the best experience. The ONLY reason why I can't give it 5 stars is the lack of enforcement. Some people kept their car lights on during the movie making it harder to see, kids running around screaming, cars parking in illegitimate spots, etc. some of the clientele was a bit sketch but I think that's partly because of the low prices. I absolutely would come again, but I just wish the rules were more enforced. If you're looking for an old style movie experience to take a trip back in time definitely visit! read more

I may have given this place more stars had the owner not trolled my Fb post and called me a cheap ass and called me dumb!! The screens are super small and the cars have to face the screen at weird angles. The bathrooms were filthy and the food from the concession stand were blah. I made a post that night on Fb and of course checked in and it was an innocent post. A friend asked if you can bring your own snacks as she does not eat that stuff. I don't either but did and regretted it. So I said well nobody really looks in the cars and we brought some stuff in. Our "stuff" was only a few candy things and some bottled water. I assume it was the owner who was berating me. Very unprofessional. He literally called me dumb and a cheap ass. I love drive-ins! This was an incredible experience. My father said it was nearly identical to the drive-ins he had been to as a kid, and as a first time drive-in customer, I was thrilled. The cost was $6 per adult for a double feature of first run movies! That's unheard of! We got to see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 the night after it came out! WOW! The concessions have a decent selection and are pretty good given that it's captive-audience fast food. They have made to order pizza, burgers, and fried green tomatoes (delicious!), plus hot dogs and various other munching foods. I would highly recommend arriving early as it fills up very quickly and it's helpful to get a good spot. The audio comes through very clearly on a radio station they tell you to tune into as you drive up to buy your tickets. Bring your lawn chairs, or sit in your car and enjoy this cinematic time-warp! Great fun nostalgic drive in experience with 2 movies, bonus cartoons and olde time ads all for $6 for adults. There is also Bouncy House for kids and an Concession Stand with many family favorites. There is some truck noise from the road, but you control the volume on your car radio which quickly drowns it out. Most of the traffic had dissipated by the time the second movie started. Many families parked with their hatches open with the kids chilling out in sleeping bags and pillows while the parents sat on lawn chairs. All in all, a great fun relaxing evening. read more

We have a four month old and wanted to see the new Star Wars movie. We didn't even consider being able to see it until it came out on dvd until I found out about this place. We went and had an absolutely amazingly fun experience!!! I'd prefer coming here to a regular movie theatre from now on. It's a great place to go on a budget and the popcorn is good and their snack bar is good also the popcorn and snack bar the soda and the popcorn are half off for the second time around so if you have family that's good in case we run out plus the prices are good not like in the big theaters and it's comfortable and you get two movies for $6 so it's really a good deal plus they have deals on the pizza and four drinks if you have a family and they have other stuff too so it's really worth it to come out and give it a try you will be pleased read more

Awesome! The quality of the projector is top notch and the sound through your car speakers is flawless! The ticket prices make this place a steal, compared to conventional theaters; two movies for the price of one ticket ($6)? ITS A NO BRAINER!.... Not to mention, the concession prices are considerably cheaper that the Regal in Gainesville. I want to see this place last a long time, and It kills me to see people bring in their own concessions, because this place only makes money on what it serves; apparently they break even on the tickets. Classic drive-in theater with modern advantage of car stereo sound tuned into radio station. And they get new movies. A few minor issues, however. The screens aren't too big. It's actually confusing to figure out which of the 2 opposing screens you're supposed to go to, as, incredibly, they have no signs or numbers on or near them. Make sure you listen carefully to your ticket seller as to which screen is yours. Also, the cars face the screen at a funny angle. There's also plenty of inappropriate begging for you to buy food and drink to offset their costs. And some of the best would-be spots are taken up by the concession building located inexplicably in the middle of the property instead of at the back. As for the food inside, I expected it to be not too good, but it was worse than that (pizza & hot dogs). The popcorn, while reasonably priced, is way over-salted. Nevertheless, this is an increasingly unique experience and is worth a visit. read more

I just had an amazing evening at the Ocala Drive-In with my family and friends... I've lived in the area for nearly 50 years and seen the Ocala Drive-In go through a lot of changes... there even was a time when the idea of seeing a movie there was just a memory from the past, as the drive-in was only being used as a place to host a weekend flea market ... but fortunately for all of us Marion County residents, the Ocala Drive-In has returned to its roots, showing first rate, newly released feature films, with theater amenities rivaling any multi-plex... at a much reduced cost. And you won't find any $5 soft drinks here... not even $4, or $3... Everything is very fairly priced, including the admission... the movie image is sharp, and piping the audio through your own FM radio will make it as good as the FM stereo you bring in your vehicle.. the staff is very courteous and helpful... The Ocala Drive-In is a place that Marion County, Florida residents are very blessed to have, and hopefully will be here for generations to continue to enjoy. read more
