OCMd is a wonderful family vacation destination! With two miles of commercial boardwalk and vast stretches of soft sandy beaches, it's easy to spend the day enjoying the surf and sun of the Atlantic Coast. I like to go during the offseason Oct-April because it's less crowded and my dog can enjoy the fun.

I needed to update my review. Phillips Seafood, a mainstay in Ocean City, closed during covid. Now the only location is in Baltimore. The beach remains awesome. We have stayed near the boardwalk and farther away. Sometimes, it is easier to find parking farther away from the boardwalk. There are fun attractions - miniature golf, escape rooms, outlet shopping and souvenir shops. Pizza is a better option than some of the restaurants on a Sunday evening. Watch your snacks on the beach. The seagulls are aggressive and fast! Assateague isn't that far. There are hiking trails and horses. Rehoboth beach is about 30 minutes away. It has a different look and feel.

We've been coming to Ocean City for the last 19 years. Even if we don't come for a whole week anymore, we still need to make it here for a few days otherwise we feel as if our Summer isn't complete. This place has become our second home. Everyone has always been so polite to us over the years. The weather is amazing. The beach is always clean. The boardwalk is beautiful. We love all the diversity in food options. It's an amazing place.

I spent a couple of weeks traveling the East Coast and this gave me the opportunity to compare and contrast some of the greatest beaches. Ocean City lands in the middle, at least as far as my own rating scale. It is overly commercialized. It's cheap pizza after ice cream followed by tshirts and arcades. The boardwalk isn't really that smooth. There's some litter. And the boardwalk is a long, long, LONG walk to the water side. They do have lifeguards and the water gets deeper very slowly as you walk out. I'm comparing it to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk https://www.yelp.com/biz/virginia-beach-ocean-front-virginia-beach-2?hrid=DMoCjaNXf2eY5n8NdGyBCQ, Coney Island https://www.yelp.com/biz/coney-island-beach-and-boardwalk-brooklyn-3?hrid=m00emaATJhbcQJaJaTvmTw, Bayfront Park https://www.yelp.com/biz/bayfront-park-chesapeake-beach?hrid=ske6C4WU_x0ILDzZsFaMBg and eventually, Atlantic City. Maybe you agree. Maybe you don't. That's okay. This isn't my cup of tea. [Review 18154 overall - 668 in Maryland - 1676 of 2022.]

Beautiful area of OCEAN CITY. Close to shops and restaurants and yet unspoiled. Pretty back bays. Camping nearby.

Lovely beach .. must visit :) people start going to the beach early mornings and enjoy the atmosphere . Lots of activities in this beach - surfing , beach volleyball, para sailing , speed boats , water scooters etc. very clean beach . Life guards are all around . 5 star attraction :)

This is one nice beach. Very deep, super clean, with a boardwalk that's runs forever. People bathing in the sun here are very kind to one another, and spread out appropriately. There's umbrellas and chairs you can rent. When we went in early September, the outside temp was around 80°, just perfect. The water was a bit cold and rough, with large waves and white caps, but it was very windy out. Water was a medium green color. Walking out in the water, it was very shallow for a good distance. We didn't see any traces of seaweed, which was wonderful.

While on a family trip to Ocean City in July we went over to check out the Ocean City Beach. There was limited free parking so we utilized paid parking a few blocks away. Once you walk past the boardwalk there is the beach. Ocean City Beach is a very nice, clean and expansive beach. It was lifeguards and relatively gentle waves. Our girls (7 & 9) had a great time playing in the water. The water was cold but they still had a great time. The beach was so expansive you could see the beach as far as you could look. There was lots of space on the beach so you could be near people or find your own place away from others. The great part of this beach is that with the boardwalk, amusement park and the places to eat and shop there is something for everyone. Overall this is a really great beach. I look forward to bringing the family back here next time we are in the Maryland area.

Ocean City is just that: the entire length of the beach is heavily developed and urban. The sand and the waves are nice, and bits of wildlife are visible, but as far as beaches go, I prefer the wilder ones by a lot, including Assateague and the Delaware State Parks right nearby. The length of the beach here is largely featureless so it's reasonable to search for cheap or free parking and hit the beach wherever you end up. The bottom line, though, is that beaches are not our strength around here, and if you're trying to find a real ocean beach within a reasonable drive of the DC-Baltimore area, this is about as close as you can get. Additionally, when there are travel restrictions across state lines, it's helpful that while OC is a long way away from most of the state, it is still technically Maryland.

The beach at Ocean City pleasantly surprised me. Well, I really just didn't know what to expect coming here. I'm from the west coast, and OC beach this isn't a place you ever hear about. I don't imagine it's on any lists of top beaches in the US. All that said, this beach is very spacious, nice, and clean! At least when I went this month (September) it was not too crowded, lots of people were flying cool kites, there was a lifeguard on duty, and there existed many shops/restaurants on the boardwalk that just want you to relax and be comforted with their goods! It was perfect formula for a nice autumn beach time with gentle wind. I know it's far from the metropolitan D.C. area (3 hours driving), but it's worth the trip for sure if you want to get away from the hustle/bustle politics and dig your feet in the sand.

What can I say? I've been coming to this beach since I was in high school. This is my go-to beach since I live in Virginia. I think it is the closest beach in the DMV. You have the THE OCEAN, the boardwalk, restaurants, souvenir shops, games, rides, fun shops along the boardwalk, bars, pizza, funnel cake, deep fried oreos, deep fried Reeces peanut butter cups...yea, they're AMAZING. I've never been to Vegas, but with all the bright lights and exciting things to see and do and all the people, I feel like it's the Vegas Strip! It is a long beach strip. The beach is clean. Security does their job and makes sure its safe. Family friendly. However - there are more beaches to check out further up the highway, like Bethany, Fenwick Island, Dewey and Rehoboth. Go see them all! They all have

Amazing mini summer getaway. I truly believe Ocean City Beach, Maryland has been underrated for years. We stayed at the far end of the boardwalk away from the night life congestion but close enough to stroll. The beach was clean. People respectful of one another and the beach atmosphere of relaxation, good times, and family/friend quality time was enjoyed by all. I did not see one person drinking alcohol or any beer cans or disorderly people; day or night on the beach. Which is very impressive how big the beach area is and for so many people to follow the rules. No one on the beach was blaring their personal choice of music on their personal portable radios. Only music heard was the ocean, people laughing/talking or playing beach games and the occasional restaurant live band. The boardwalk in the evening was also enjoyable. Tons of people, but police presence that could not go unnoticed with the large beautiful horses patrolling the boardwalk. Tons of shops, restaurants, places to go and things to do throughout the beach/Bay Area. Will definitely come back to this clean, pleasant, relaxing, family oriented beach. This beach just isn't hyped up like other beaches but don't be fooled, sometimes the best little secrets are kept quiet. Hyped up beaches tend to have hyped up atmospheres, parties, alcohol and trouble. Really enjoyed the beauty and tranquility and peace of this beach with my daughters.

Ocean City has a lot to offer from restaurants, entertainment, shops and more. I really enjoyed the outlet when you first drive in. The summer season is very busy and you can find yourself at the same stop light after two turns because traffic can be that hectic! The parking is a hassle like most beach area and a lot of one way streets, reading the street signs is fundamental! LOL! Some of the hotels on the strips are old so read reviews very closely. The area is very family oriented but also a spot for local Spring breakers. Overall it is a great place to vacation!

Ask the Community - Ocean City Beach

The buses only seem to go on the north and south streets. Are there any that go West to East to go from the bayside to the Atlantic Ocean beach?

Not that I am aware of. Uber/lyft is best way to get around over there if you are not driving.

The horses do wander free, and you need to be careful with food on your site, as explained by the park rangers. But it's fun to see them and watch them. The camp hosts are good about cleaning and maintaining the area they're each in charge of. The beaches are nice and it's fun to go clamming out in the bay. I was so eager to see the horses I heard about, but weary we might not see any. Maybe we were lucky, because we saw sooo many horses! Very nice place, helpful information, exhibits, a touch tank, bathrooms, gift shop and then you'll be on your way. Admission per vehicle gets you access for a week. We loved spending a few hours here so much that we came back a second day. The beaches are clean and not crowded. Lots of dogs, so be warned if you're averse. The marsh trail was really cool. We saw several small fishies, pipefish, crabs, egrets, just really cool to look in the water throughout the trail and observe. Bayside beaches are hidden spots for isolated swims. I saw a family here and there just swimming completely alone. The forest trail was also a good one to walk. More interesting nature. We weren't too crazy about the dune trail. Although, it was interesting to see the old abandoned road in the middle of the dune. Horses here there and everywhere, almost. Overall, such a fun place to visit. Go for a few hours or spend the day. Remember, ensure it's breezy and you'll be almost completely fly free.
