I don't spoil myself often, although I certainly should! Today I took the day off work to pamper myself and booked a microdermabrasion, eyebrow waxing and a massage. I called in the morning and they were able to squeeze me in for the afternoon, which was pretty cool. Virginia did my microdermabrasion and my eyebrow and she was amazing. I had never done that before so she explained everything step by step. She's very knowledgeable and has the softest touch! My eyebrows look great but I cannot speak for the treatment yet because it takes some time... But the skin feels so smooth! I love it. Ashley was the massage therapist and she was also amazing. Got exactly what I needed, which was getting rid of ginormous stress knots I have on my back and hit the spot with the right pressure. I left that room walking on air! The spa is small but very cozy, clean, peaceful. I left that place in such good mood!! The prices were really good too, compared to what I had seen around, especially for the facial part. I don't live in Carlsbad but I will certainly make the drive back soon! read more

I received a birthday gift for a massage here and it was just what I needed! I felt completely comfortable and at ease while all my worries and tension was massaged away! I started writing this review in my head DURING the massage. Not a good sign, when a massage is meant to wash away all thoughts into a pool of relaxation. I had a Living Social gift card for a choice of treatments and this place was the best rated on yelp. I had a " 90 minute massage with heated stones" which I thought would be a traditional hot stone massage. No,no,no,no,no. What I received was a near back breaking deep tissue massage with heated stones being used for about 3 minutes out of 90. WHAT. Also the stones were sort of rough and didn't hold the heat for more than a second. Maybe they didn't buy the right stones? When I think of a hot stone massage I first think of the stones arranged on the chakras, a major benefit to the whole experience. I was really sad that that didn't happen. The best one I have ever had was at The Knot Stop in Hillcrest where they go as far as to put tiny stones in between your toes. This is miles below that level of service. And for those saying "you have to tell the therapist how much pressure, otherwise don't complain"- I did. Several times....and I even said "Ow thats really tender." So save your breath. Personally I think it the therapist's job to read how the clients body is reacting to the pressure you put on it. Are they tensing up or holding their breath? Lighten up. It shouldn't get to the point of "Ow" unless it's a sports massage, which I will never get because I would never pay for pain. Their are fettish clubs for that...but I digress. For me, the mark of a really great massage is you leave with "after-sex" hair. I left with perfect hair. PERFECT. I don't even go to work with perfect hair. I had a LivingSocial deal for a hot stone pedicure and was going to a wedding...you know the drill, all part of the week of prep to get yourself in what fancy people consider "presentable". When I called to make the appointment, they took the coupon # over the phone, which made me feel more comfortable when I arrived. I was greeted by two friendly ladies who showed me over to a super comfy couch and brought me a cup of H2O, where I filled out my first-time client paperwork. Shortly after, a quiet brunette [I wish I could remember her name] came out and asked me to choose a polish and lotion (OH, THE LOTION!), and then led me over to a private room with more comfy seating and not a hint of cheesiness (i.e. remote controlled massage chairs). The whole salon was very clean, quiet, and relaxing, and my toes came out amazing (french tip). I'm really glad I bought another one of those coupons, and CAN'T WAIT TO RETURN! Just yesterday I had my very first massage here, and I will definitely be back! The front desk attendant, Erica, was very sweet and informative and answered all my questions each time that I called (which was 4 to be exact). When I arrived, Kerry my therapist (and the owner) was there to greet me and walk me to the sitting area to fill out paperwork, she also pointed out the restroom and the water dispenser should I want a drink while filling out my forms. Once we were in the treatment room, Kerry asked me if there was anything I was looking for or what parts of my body needed work. She explained to me exactly what would happen during the massage, where I should place my clothes, jewelry, etc. The entire time Kerry was very attentive and checked in with me once or twice to see if I needed to adjust or if the pressure was okay! Post massage Kerry told me I was welcome to stay as long as I wanted and when I left the room she was waiting with a glass of water and encouraged me to sit and drink it should I need to. Payment at the front desk was quick and easy! All in all I paid $59.00(before gratuity) for a 60 minute full body massage! The staff was relaxing and helpful and the facility was clean and beautiful! As a former massage therapist I can be a tough customer. I know have pretty high standards. I also recognize when the quality of training or experience isn't there. I have seen Ashley a few times now and that girl really knows her stuff. Don't let her size fool you... She is a powerhouse. If you want a some restorative work done I highly recommend her. I have not used any of the other services myself, but my mother goes monthly for facials and swears by them. Ocean day spa doesn't have a ton of bells and whistles but if you are looking for a quality treatment you will find it here. Totally blown away by my experience today. Ashley was amazing! I did the new you package and the value for the price is really great. I got a full massage, scrub, wrap thing and a full facial. I kept thinking that it must soon be done, that I've gotten all the pampering, and it just kept going and going! As a mom of two I don't get much solo time and I haven't felt this relaxed in a long time. Ashley was so nice and really attentive. It's been a while since my last massage, but I've had a lot over the years and this massage was hands down the best I've had. On my way out I noticed that she is dual licensed in massage and esthetics. That's a lot of schooling and experience! The space is great, very clean and it felt safe. I will for sure be back! I was delighted by this wonderful spa. My husband bought me a gift card for this place for my birthday. I decided to get a 60 minute massage and a pedicure. The massage was amazing. Kerry, the spa owner, gave me my massage. She asked me about what kind of pressure i liked, any sore area i had or any injuries. She listened to my responses and the massage was perfect. Next came my pedicure. When I saw the price of it, I was a little hesitant. I am used to paying 20-30 dollars for a pedicure. My doubts were quickly removed. It was one of the most intense and complete pedicures i had ever had. It took over 70 minutes and was extremely relaxing. She (can't remember name) did such a fabulous job painting my toes. The location was very easy to get to, the staff was friendly but not pretentious. I felt very comfortable and relaxed. The service was wonderful. I got a facial and my skin looks and feels great. I took advantage of the Spa Finder special that was running at the time ($50 facial) and was a little disappointed that I was told, over the phone - I didn't try to use them, that they wouldn't accept the Spa Finder gift certificates for it. What a great experience!! As a service provider & Day Spa Owner, we are always the last ones to take care of ourselves. So instead of having my own employees give me treatments, I decided it would be much more relaxing to go somewhere I dont have to think or talk about work. Ocean Day Spa was just what I needed. 1/2 way through my massage i found myself in such a relaxing state, i didnt know it was possible. Oh, and way over due!! The facial was great too. im not sure what she did, because i was pretty much useless by the time my massage was over, aka spa stoned, LOL. My skin felt so hydrated and still feels great today. I love this place!!!!! The spa is in a strip mall but as soon as you walk in you completely forget that. I've had multiple massages and facials, all of which have been amazing. Everyone is friendly and very peaceful - not rushed. I'm a fan of the monthly specials and the random offers through SpotOn. Definitely worth every penny. Got a Living Social deal for $49 for a 55 minute massage with an add on of aromatherapy and back exfoliation. Well worth the $49 and I would definately have paid full price as well. :) I was totally relaxed at the end and the only reason I hesitate to give 5 stars is that while they do a good job at creating a relaxing vibe in the space, you still have the feeling (and sounds) of a strip mall. You can tell they love what they do and are true professionals! Not just doing a job for a paycheck like some of these other chain massage mills that seem to be popping up everywhere! (She was an awesome boss!) it took me a year to use it....after I left my position & moved to Santa Barbara...but it is a hidden gem in Carlsbad & I regret not using the gift earlier to have discovered & become a regular customer. As far as day spas, this was the best in Carlsbad I've been to. The ladies were so friendly & genuine when I arrived. The spa is relaxing, beautiful, & had a beautiful fragrance wafting through to immediately ease my tension. Hailey was my masseuse...do NOT be fooled by her tiny build. Hailey is strong & capable, & I had an excellent deep tissue, all over massage. After a 3.5 hr drive & 9 hrs of heavy lifting moving g furniture & cleaning the house out, Hailey's massage & the spa was exactly what I needed. my hubby & I still visit SD every few months as the kids & his parents & family live there. I will be back & will treat my hubby to a massage here too! So grateful to my former boss for introducing me to this slice of heaven!!! read more

Although I have been very happy with Virgina my long time estitician at ocean day spa, I was disappointed to hear she left. When I booked and appointment with her replacement and couldn't make due to a family emergency, the management took the liberty of charging my bank account $130.00 (full service price) for missing the appointment. The funny part is i was not asked to keep a card in file over the years there. So, they used my past transaction history to access my bank account. I dont feel this is good bussiness practice or even legal and will not be returning to this salon. read more

The short: WAY overpriced in general, but even worse for what you get...Too much noise from wine bar next door to enjoy a relaxing massage The long: my wife had a $199 gift card to go here. We both scheduled a massage and a few "specials". First, the massage was not very good. I cannot really pinpoint, the pressure seemed ok, but they just didn't seem to hit the right spots (for me). My wife did enjoy her massage, which is why I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1... We both agreed that the Hand/foot special thing we got (don't recall exactly what it was), was certainly not worth the inflated $60/pp price tag. They rubbed what felt like some sand on our feet/hands, put a bag around and that was about it...I was expecting a good hand/foot massage, but I think even without the "special" they spent maybe 30 seconds on each extremity...disappointing. They head massage was apparently some "special" thing my wife paid for as well...I didn't know this until after...as I saw nothing out of the usual from massages I normally receive (nice 3-4 minute head/scalp massage). To my shock when we were on our way out, even with the $199 gift card, our bill was still almost $300 w tip (~$260 w/o tip). FYI They do not have a couples room...it's just a few rooms with massage table setup. My wife enjoyed said she would have enjoyed the massage, had it not cost an arm and a leg (even after the gift card). I wouldn't go back if they offered a free massage...I know they couldn't help it, but the noise from the wine bar next door didn't allow me to enjoy my massage. read more
