Food was excellent. The bartender confirmed that everything on the happy hour menu is the same as the normal menu so you get high-quality food. Service was outstanding. The ambience was upscale yet not too upscale if you know what I mean. The down home shrimp was outstanding - served with an incredibly buttery rich sauce, and if they would've let me I would've licked the bowl. That might be frowned upon for this type of establishment. The half price menu on the glasses of wine is excellent - you get some really good quality wine that you normally wouldn't. For example, Justin instead of being $17 - half, a great deal. If you're nice and don't beg, they bring you on the house bread. No special butter just standard fairly. My oh my oh my. All I can say is, 801 Chophouse you will be seeing me again. First things first, the service was fantastic. Our waitress was super kind and attentive and took really good care of our table during the dinner! It was a decently sized restaurant with beautiful bar seating, table and booth. It wasn't loud at all, so perfect for table conversations. Le bf had the snake strip wagyu and I had the KC strip. We added the green beans, Mac and cheese (had delicious smoky gouda flavor) and scalloped potatoes for our sides (the potatoes had the most AMAZING cheese crust on top OMG). We also were given a complimentary dessert for celebrating an anniversary. Oh and they serve the most delicious complimentary sourdough bread and butter! My goodness the sides are plentiful!! And I know it may sound odd to take home leftover steak and warm it up in a microwave. I understand that, but boy did those steaks maintain their moistness and delicious flavor. The green beans were honestly my favorite part. They were topped with delicious caramelized onions and chunky bacon! Oh and the carrot cake, even better the next day. So it's kinda a story. The restaurant we wanted to eat at was not open due to weather so we meandered into this restaurant because who doesn't like steak? We walk in and right away we know we're under dressed the host is in a tie and the servers are all in jackets. Most of the clientele in the bar are in suits. It's old timey feeling for certain and the host looks at us asks if we have a reservation which of course we don't since this was a last minute decision but he was totally like "Not a problem. Let me see if I can find you a table". Not even bothered that we're in jeans and casual jackets so total kudos to him. He had us seated in the bar at a booth in under 5 minutes in the bar area. We never made it to the main dining room but the bar was gorgeous. It had a rolling ladder along the liquor shelf and it was fun to watch. However, I digress. We're now seated in a booth about 20 ft from the door which leads to the frigid outdoors from the storm rolling in and we're pretty well protected from the cold air. I don't need any of my extra layers so we're good there. Comfortable table is secured! Now we have our menus and hubby and I are discussing what we want and what we think we may need to get through the next day at least. We're approached for our drinks by one of our servers as they work in teams. I order a boulevard wheat and hubby orders a whiskey smash. I'm sad to say no photos of the drinks but his whiskey smash was probably one of if not the best whiskey based drink I've ever tasted (not a huge whiskey fan personally) but the mint blackberry combination was just amazing. My beer was a beer lol. So our second server approaches is to take our food order. I am so sorry I don't have names. I am awful at remembering them. But we explain a little of what we're doing and that we will require boxes and she gives some guidance on about how much we should order to get through the next night. So we put in our order. She asks if we want our soup with the appetizer and explain we'd like it spread out and she is like no problem. Our food was timed to perfection. Onto the food! Meatballs - Not italian style with marinara. It comes with a mushroom sauce that was amazing. It had some slight heat to it as well which was surprisingly pleasant. After the meatballs the chowder came next. The chowder was also delicious!!! Pieces of lobster in a slightly spicy corn chowder with a side of crackers that you can add or not add to your liking. At this point I'm looking at hubby going I think the bar is too high. There's no way the food is going to continue to be this delicious. He's all like let's just enjoy it because you never know. You never can know but we've had that disappointment before... I can certainly say the rest of the meal was just as epic as the starters. So our main courses come out. We each ordered a 12oz filet knowing we were having left overs both are cooked to perfection. Mine was rare with a crust. Hubby requested medium rate and his was cooked too perfection as well. I had a topping of mushroom sauce and cognac butter. This sauce was the same as the meatballs. I was not disappointed. Hubby had a topping of au poivre which was also very delicious. We each requested these on the side to be able to decided how little our much we wanted with our steak. This was also a recommendation from our server. Gold star to her! Onto the sides! Garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. They were tangy, super creamy, and definitely full of garlic. It was everything I could've hoped and dreamed of for garlic mashed potatoes. Baked potato was delicious as well. It was perfectly cooked. The bacon and cheese were of high quality. I appreciated that the butter and sour cream came on the side. The macaroni and cheese what can I say? The pasta was perfectly cooked it wasn't soggy but a perfect al dente so it had bite that went very well with their cheese sauce and bread crumb topping. Once again so delicious. So at this point we're done eating we've set aside most of the sides and about half of our steaks to enjoy for the next day (or two). Our server comes and takes our food to box and as per the usual at any restaurant ask if we want dessert. Yes please!!! She brings the dessert menu and offers her recommendations. I ordered the carrot cake and hubby ordered the sticky toffee pudding. I have one word for dessert. Divine!!!! My carrot cake was absolutely legendary in flavor. It's the best carrot cake I've ever had at a restaurant! The sticky toffee pudding I didn't try myself but my husband said it was amazing. At the end we packed up the rest of our desserts for our snow in. Our server once again being amazing asked if there was anything else we wanted like another round of drinks etc. We declined because we wanted to get back to our room but we felt like we were not being rushed to be able to flip the table which was greatly appreciated. read more

Had a nice dinner! Wanted to give this steakhouse a try. Our group of four had the bone in KC strip, Filet Mignon with crab, and the Chilean Seabass. We got the oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer and for sides the lobster Mac and Cheese and brussel sprouts. The food was all delicious. Filet mignon was cooked to perfection and very tender. The bone in was ordered "medium" and was over cooked, closer to well done. We hand the Soufflé for dessert and it was good too. This is an elegant restaurant and service was friendly and attentive. However at the end of the day the food was OVER PRICED and we liked J Gilbert's better. They have a better menu, with more Variety, for a better price. The quality of food was good. For a high end steakhouse the quality of ingredients was top notch and the ambience was good. The food itself tasted good but definitely not worth the money. The service was also decent but it wasn't stellar. If I go to what is considered one of the higher end steakhouses in KC I expect from start to finish a great experience not just an above average one. The waitress asked if my son and I were celebrating anything and I said it was his birthday and I'm not expecting anything for free but at least a candle in his cheesecake. Ribeye, was a little thin but incredibly tasty steak. Side that I tried was scalloped potatoes- and imthey were fantastic! Desserts, chocolate cake - mediocre, carrot cake - good, Grand Marnier soufflé - good, chocolate soufflé by far the best choice of these desserts. I took out business clients on a Wednesday at 5:30 pm here. They don't do happy hour in the Dining room, just the bar area. Service was great, I've never had someone cart out steaks to show me cuts, but I thought that was pretty cool. I started with a Caesar salad and got a Ribeye 16oz* with Au Poivre & Cognac Cream. The sauce was worth the extra money. It is very pepper forward with with partially grounded pepper. Blue cheese crust is my fave, but this is a very close 2nd. It was so stinking good. I made sure not an inch of sauce was unused. Bottom line, special occasion spot with typical high end steak house feel, for a date or business clients. A very special experience! We braved the cold to go out to here for KC Restaurant Week 2024. We had made a reservation a few weeks prior, so were immediately directed to a semi-private dining area off the main dining room with partial height walls and a curtain dividing off the space. It was spectacularly intimate and private feeling. I really appreciated this space. We had a waiter who served us with care and attention. You could really tell it was an elevated and fine-dining experience. He even put the napkins in the lap once we had started the bread course if we didn't already have it in our lap, as is proper etiquette. He also took away the forks and dishes as we finished each course or if we didn't need them if we got soup instead of salad. It was very unique to watch and experience, I really enjoyed it. He did a great job of attending to our party of more than 6 people. The food was completely amazing and perfect. I don't think I have ever experienced such a delicious meal that I so enjoyed for all of the courses, not that I have done multiple-course meals very often. The bread and butter was good. The lobster chowder was creamy and decadent. The salmon was a true star of the evening. So fabulously soft inside as it fell apart under the fork but the outside was so crispy and kind of sweet. Even the sweet potato purée that I was not expecting to like was very enjoyable paired with the salmon. And the dessert was amazing! I ordered the piña colada sorbet, while others ordered the blueberry sauce cheesecake. I enjoyed my sorbet the most. Such a pleasing and refreshing sweet flavor, the perfect smooth consistency. I wish I could eat some of that sorbet every day after every meal. It was such a delight. I can't wait to come back here and try out their special Sunday dinner sometime. The timing of service was perfect, we never felt rushed and our glasses were never below half full all while still being unbothered by the wait staff. The restaurant has a great wine list to pair with any of their dishes. We each ordered steaks and they were cooked well, if anything just slightly below the ordered temperature. Their wedge salad is one of the best wedges I've ever had. Our party was sat in the bar area at a circle table, while the ambiance was nice the table felt crowded and overall restricting for our party. Finally! I'm so tired of bad service, sub-par food, loud and cold environment, etc. I want a place where I can dress up and spend $300+ for a special occasion and feel good about it. I've been so mad at places lately. Capital Grill (sense the new "revamp"', Stock Hill, McCORMICK & SCHMICK'S, all been so bad. Terrible service, loud atmosphere, decent food. 801 has the beautiful dark wood and the candles and servers all dressed in uniform. The service was so good! Tentative, caring, I felt like I was being cared for while eating. The steaks, calamari, mussels, crab, all so perfect. I've never had a better steak. Hubby and I had a free Monday night and decided to check out 801 Happy Hour. I WISH my phone camera was working because the cocktails and food were fantastic. We shared a dozen oysters of varying varieties they were so succulent. Then we shared the steak sliders with fries and that was my personal favorite. The tenderloin was juicy and cooked perfectly and was paired with the perfect amount of delicious horseradish mayo. I will say the fries that were served with it weren't great. I hadn't been in years until my recent visit, and I honestly don't remember the food being so good. I ordered a few things, and they were all very delicious, especially the shrimp and mashed potatoes. The small plates are affordable for such quality food in my opinion. Service started off a bit rocky as the host wasn't very welcoming. I was seated in the back of the restaurant (totally empty), instead of with the rest of the patrons. My husband and I ate here for our 1-year wedding anniversary last night. Our server was very bubbly and attentive. On our menu was typed "Happy 1st Anniversary!" and we received a take-home menu with the same thing written on it. The atmosphere is intimate and romantic. The restaurant is dimly lit and decorated for fall. It also showcases their lobsters in a tank. Unfortunately, while the atmosphere and service were a 5/5, the food, across the board, was not. For our appetizer, we ordered the pancetta-wrapped jumbo scallops. The scallops are plated on a roasted red pepper sauce. I've had scallops before and do not recall them being salty like these were. These tasted like they had literally been injected with nothing but saltwater. I know scallops are supposed to have a hint of brininess, but this was overwhelmingly. For our entrees, I ordered the 1 lb lobster tail. A server removed the lobster meat from the tail and mentioned that the chef who prepared it "does it differently than anyone I have ever seen." When I asked how so, he replied, "It looks better than this." Like the scallops, I've had lobster before and don't recall it being salty. The lobster tail was slightly salty, but not as overwhelming as the scallops, so it was palatable. My husband ordered the KC strip medium rare, but it was definitely rare. He's not the type to send something back though, so he kept eating it, albeit by his facial expressions, I could tell he did not like it. For our sides, we ordered the creamed spinach and roasted garlic mashed potatoes. The creamed spinach was one of the food highlights of the night! It was so good that I would love to have the recipe. My husband said the garlic mashed potatoes were good. We were given a free dessert for our anniversary and chose the pumpkin cheesecake. It was huge and we couldn't finish the whole thing, but very delicious and creamy. It literally tasted like pumpkin pie! The dessert was the other food highlight of the night. For our drinks, I ordered the lemon cocktail, which was very good and tasted like spiked lemonade. My husband ordered the old fashioned, which he said he liked although it was strong. Truly magnificent...We had dinner this evening at the Leawood location and everything was quite impressive. The ambience and atmosphere were most comfortable and our steaks came out perfectly. This past weekend, our power was out due to storms in KC and I was in a bummer of a mood! Sitting at the bar for dinner really lifted my spirits! Ashley was the main server at the bar who helped us. She was wonderful and chatted with us throughout the evening and made sure we were taken care of -- as did everyone else behind the bar. We also had a friend who told us to ask for Bela and Dawn, who also came out to chat and great us and we're so fun to meet. My dishes were amazing, would prefer the temp of the crab cakes to be a little warmer, but the flavors of both were fantastic. These scallops are some of the best scallops I have had in the KC area. The dry aged steak had some of the best flavor I've tried in a steak. I asked for it to be medium, I think it was more medium rare, however the waiter was there promptly asking if I was satisfied. Overall I would say my rating would be about a 4.7, but because of the flavors, staff and great dining experience I am happy to round up. I will definitely visit again in the future! read more

For us this is special occasions only. Its easy to drop $200 per person. Its literally in the same building as Aloft Hotel, but not part of the hotel. Its a convenient place to eat if you are staying at the hotel. The Oysters Rockefeller were amazing appetizer. For mains, we went with a seafood platter and pork chops, with a shared side of scallop potatoes as recommended by our waiter. He also recommended a butterfly cut of my pork chop, which was a great call. The pork chop with cinnamon apples are similar to the ones I get at 82 Queen in Charleston. They fall a bit short in comparison, probably because there are no sweet potatoes and collard greens It was my wifes birthday, so all our menus had happy birthday written on them, and a menu tied up for us to take home.
