We absolutely love this place as well as the people who work here! They are VERY nice & very accommodating. I have to comment on the one review that said that the "ambiance" was that of a breakfast diner. Ha Ha Ha Ha That might just be because it used to be a diner! =) "murphy's" & then "choo choo charlie's" They try to be all passive aggressive with their review & say that it is 'basic' fare, & that people don't know what they are talking about that it is the 'best' in Oneida. Obviously they are NOT from Oneida. Oneida has like two other sushi restaurants. Avocado does not have a flavour, unless you count 'bland' as a flavour. & if you don't want avocado in your roll, ask for them not to put it in! I know, I know, that's just crazy! Personally I think this business has done quite well for opening during the middle of the "pandemic". The tempura is possibly the best in the area! & be sure to check out the specials behind the counter. I think they also have some on the sandwich board as well. & for those folks who don't like nori, they also have soy paper for the rolls. read more

Hibachi scallops were VERY disappointing compared to the Fuji Hibachi restaurant in Glendale Plaza. Ambiance was dingy.

Hands down the best sushi in Central New York. All ingredients have been fresh and high quality every time. Everyone who works here is incredibly kind- they once even helped us jump our car! Their rolls are delightful. The rice is seasoned perfectly. The fish is fresh and delicious. I especially recommend the salmon belly and the yellowtail! Sometimes they get in fresh uni, which is a delight. Try it on top of a sea scallop! They are very flexible with substitutions or leaving out rice. Their plating is beautiful and masterful. While I was there today, some guy came in, claiming he was given a roll with bad, old food in it. The staff apologized and offered to remake it for free. He refused. He demanded cash, and they asked for a receipt. Then he claimed someone else got it, so he didn't have a receipt, but wanted his money back right then and there. It's a pretty common scam, honestly. I've NEVER had a single piece of bad food here. Not once. I think offering to replace it or to refund with a receipt is personally reasonable, so if this guy rolls up blasting them, take it with a huge rock of salt. Anyway, Ocean Sushi of Oneida is honestly the only sushi place in want to go to in central New York. It is vastly superior to any other place I have tried. read more

Been here several times. The sushi is basic fare. Everything with avocado, not that I dislike avocado, but it always overpowers everything else in the roll. I wrote a Google review suggesting some fruit based rolls and more variety of non avocado rolls. Regardless anyone who thinks this is the 'best' sushi around has a very bland palette. The service is fine, the ambience is that of a breakfast diner. The bathroom is creepy. That said the quality of everything was acceptable. If you like the basic sushi fare you will find this place fine. But nothing is breaking the mold here. read more

Stopped by here on a Saturday night with a few friends and had a great experience! The staff was super nice and attentive throughout our entire meal. All of the sushi came out super quick, too! I ordered the Naruto roll, which was very delicious and fresh. I also got the edamame, which was well salted. All of my friend's rolls came out great and the fried rice was also very tasty. Tried Ocean for the first time. I got the shumai and a salmon teriyaki poke bowl. I had heard good things but had my doubts, good Japanese food, in Oneida? I was wrong to doubt them. The shumai were good, the poke bowl even better! The chef's sauces that came with it made the dish. Salmon was cooked perfectly, seaweed was fresh with no fishy taste. tl;dr- surprisingly good sushi for the area I was in the area visiting and when someone suggested that I get sushi from a place in Oneida I laughed out loud. Oneida? You can't be serious. I had to eat crow for that one; Ocean Sushi offers a respectable sushi menu especially considering the area. For me, nigiri tells me everything I need to know about a sushi restaurant. How the rice is prepared and how the fish is cut and shaped with the rice are key indicators of a quality preparation. The rice was actual sushi rice that had been prepared quite well. The fish was as fresh as possible and shaped properly with the rice. I also noticed excellent attention to detail in the maki preparation. The service was very prompt and polite. I decided to try this little sushi place in my hometown, and I am SO HAPPY I did!!! Typically when I want good, fresh sushi I have to drive to either Syracuse or Utica. NOT ANYMORE! I was so surprised to find such well made sushi in Oneida. Staff was very friendly and attentive. They have more than just sushi which is always nice. We came here for sushi from reviews and we were not disappointed. Started with a delicious flavorful miso soup with tender tofu pieces. Sushi and Sashimi was spectacular and fresh. The food was so good we came back for lunch the next day. Also getting sushi and sashimi but I decided to try the shrimp hibachi. The shrimp was fresh and plentiful, perfectly cooked vegetables and the rice was fluffy and great tasting. We are visiting from out of town but the next trip back we will eat here again! Quaint little Japanese restaurant that had fantastic & fresh food. Prices were very reasonable. We were the only dine-in patrons during lunch time, but they had lots of carry-out business.
