Juliana wanted DUMPLINGS (Thai-style shumai with minced pork, shrimp, and imitation crab meat wrapped in wonton skins and steamed) and Wyatt had the BATON SHRIMP (shrimp in egg roll wrappers, deep-fried, and served with sweet chili sauce). both were quickly devoured. he raved about the GRILLED SALMON CURRY (salmon fillet with Pa-naeng curry sauce, green beans, red and green bell peppers, and basil) and she raved about the PAD THAI with tofu (pan-fried rice noodles, sweet and sour tamarind sauce, egg, bean sprouts, green onions, and crushed peanuts). the desert goal (sweet STICKY RICE with sliced MANGO) was trying not to lose a finger in the feeding frenzy free-for-all. read more

Great food, but when ordering to go you'll be charged for extra hot sauces. I ordered drunken noodles, red curry and asked for 4 hot sauces. they only allowed 2. anything past the 2 would be charged extra. when I have a sit down meal there I get all the sauce I want. Makes no sense! read more

It's the best Thai food around. Simple as that. They have lunch specials everyday. The hot and sour soup is one of a kind delicious! Fresh rolls and papaya salad for a light lunch. We went in for dinner. We were greeted and seated right away. Staffs were friendly and attentive. Ambience of the restaurant was nice and relaxing. We were served our appetizer first of calamari strips. They had a nice crunch to them from the batter, but lacked flavoring, even with the sauce and lime provided. For our main dishes, we had drunken noodles (medium spice) & the specialty shrimp curry (mild spice) with green beans that also came with a side of rice. Drunken noodles were okay. Again, I felt like they were a bit bland. The Thai basil definitely brought out nice flavorings with the red & green bell peppers. The specialty curry were filled with creamy coconut flavor, but it was on the salty side Would we try it again? Absolutely. Just hope for better luck next time. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience and service. We will have to give this location another try, because they do have a different variety of food choices on their menu. read more

This is our go to Thai restaurant. They've been coming here for nine years now, and they have always been consistently delicious! We love all their curries, especially the yellow and red, we enjoy their egg roll and spring roll appetizers, pineapple fried rice, drunken noodle, pad Thai and specialty items, such as the eggplant dish and beef short ribs. Our kids enjoy their kids menu, Including their chicken nuggets and fried rice dishes. Highly recommend this place for consistent delicious Thai food! read more

Decided to check this out finally after playing racquetball at the LA Fitness in the same shopping center as it had good reviews. Came on a Saturday and was happily surprised to see their lunch specials are everyday. I'm a big fan of coconut ice cream and fried bananas which they had both. However controlled myself and just had the fried bananas after my pork with drunken noodles which was good. The fried bananas was another surprise. Half of it was coconut with sesame seeds. Ocean Thai is my favorite go to for Thai food in Oceanside. I usually go to the one on Mission but decided to have a change of pace. I will clarify that food quality was amazing. My sister and I usually come in for lunch and order the same thing: soup, crab Rangoon, papaya salad, and potentially a curry. Although our meal was extremely enjoyable, our visit had turned extremely confusing and sour when time to pay. The bill was a little under 40$ so we paid in cash and also left cash tip. We prefer tipping cash! Upon packing our food to go, the server returned with our final check and oddly returned our cash tip. She said to us "Your cash tip is less than 11%. I don't know what I did to deserve this." Then left our table. We were in shock. My younger sister had put down another 2$ for the tip but we left feeling so embarrassed and offended. We are servers as well and have never been entitled to a certain amount of tip, nor have we ever confronted a PAYING customer about the lack of tip... I'm wondering if we missed the sign that stated there's a set tip percentage for parties of 2? Extremely disappointed in this location, please check staff. I have found other delicious Thai places and will gladly go to the Ocean Thai on mission instead. read more

This is the second Ocean Thai place and they are both really consistent with the food and the quality. This is another celiac safe location, and many dishes can be made gluten free if you request it. The food is consistent, you don't have to worry from day to day what you'll get. The decor is simple but clean and the staff is always friendly and the service is good. I've been eating at both locations a long time and I always feel comfortable that they are paying attention to the gluten free entrees and I've never gotten sick. It's a reliable place for me to go that I can count on, and that's huge! Definitely check out this local gem. read more

Hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in North County. I typically order Yellow or Red Curry and Thai Tea with boba which is amazing! I have only done take out at this restaurant but the staff is extremely kind and friendly over the phone and when picking up. read more

You know exactly what I mean, no disrespect by any means to anyone who can cook really great Thai cuisine & I'm not trying to be ethnically FOOD racist either- :( BUT Ya-this place is legit! :) Taking the first bite I honestly thought here we go- I could probably have made it better myself at home but I was wrong! :D Pad Thai was on point, fresh ingredients super tasty and pretty -right down to how the vibrant green onion stalks cut perfectly julienned. I'm impressed-Presentation was the best it could be in a to-go box of course but probably amazingly beautiful served right from the kitchen to table still steaming in your face and you burn your tongue because you can wait to have it cool down to taste it ! ha ha!! Lunch special is a little smaller than Im used to for portion size but it's enough to be happy to tie you over til dinner :) pricing is not bad either. Great food and great service !! 5 stars-!! Stumbled upon this place after stopping by Daiso with my family and it was absolutely delicious! We had the pork spare ribs, fried tilapia with the sweet and sour sauce on the side (photos), and the panang curry and mango with sticky rice. All we're really good!!! I actually like the Oceanside spot better. Got the same thing I order at the other location, sweet and sour chicken stir fry. However, this time it was spicy which it never has been in the past, and it was a little too spicy for me to enjoy as well. I also asked them to leave out the mushrooms and add more cucumbers and peppers instead. What I got was no cucumbers, and no more peppers or anything else than usual. The lighting inside was also crazy bright to me. The staff were friendly tho, so I'll give them that. read more

Wow. Everything on the menu sounds amazing, so it was hard to choose just a few items. My date and I started with an order of chicken satay and spring rolls. Both excellent choices. The chicken is well marinated, tender, and flavorful, and the accompanying peanut sauce and sweet and spicy relish only complemented the meat. The rolls were fresh and crisp. The basil and garlic curry is perfectly spiced and served with plenty of meat. My date went with the steamboat, brought to the table literally steaming under foil. The mixed seafood inside was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was delicious. Service was prompt, polite, and friendly. Prices are reasonable for the relatively upscale atmosphere. read more

Two stars is generous, considering. The food is flavorless and decidedly not Thai. I mean it's not salty, nor sweet nor savory. Just bland. Tom Kha: coconut milk with some veggies. No lemongrass. No kefir lime. Not sweet or tangy. No fish sauce. It's like a homeless person made it without cooking. I would have given this place 1 star if I only ordered this yuck. 0 stars. Panang curry: not peanutty. Wondering what the flavor is - similar to dishwater after curry night. Def not panang. Again with no salt or fish sauce or Thai flavors. But it's brown with red flecks. So umm. What is it? 1 Star. Pad See Eww: pun intended. Best of what I ordered but still not that good. Wide noodles were cooked well at least, nice chew to them. But again it's like the veggies were tossed in raw at the end as an afterthought. No homogenous flavor of any sort to the dish. 2.5 stars is generous. I'd probably be better off having ordered white rice and eating it plain than these 3 dishes. Thai is my favorite and I'm very flexible, and not a picky person at all. Although the servers were very nice and the decor was beautiful, they fell short with the delivery of the food. The restaurant was quite busy and a lot of people were ordering take out. Food: Panang with Chicken and Squash Pad Thai with Tofu Tom Yum Soup The panang lacked flavor and the sauce was very watered down. The Tom Yum soup also lacked flavor and the broth was clear. :( The Pad Thai noodles were overcooked. boo! I really wanted to like this place but I don't think we'll every come back. I always have to order my food "extra-mild" from a Thai restaurant because almost everything is too spicy for me. That's how I ordered my bowl of Yellow Curry here, and they delivered! It was savory and flavorful, with a hint of heat. I loved every bite! My hubby's kabocha curry was a different story. I could not take a bite of that because he got it at a level 5. He and my uncle loved it. It is a very unique curry that I have not seen offered anywhere else. I would definitely try that one next time as a milder version. The Phad Thai with beef was very tasty. Went to this restaurant on the way to Encinitas. I am from San Francisco and we have awesome Thai places in the city. This place seems to be far away from Thai food. Thai Iced Tea- too much sweet & there was no taste of tea. It was like a sweetened colored water. Pineapple Fried Rice - didn't have any smell. It was literally colored boiled rice with pineapples thrown it. Yellow Curry - it was bland. It tasted like a store bought one. There was no smell or taste. Vegetable spring rolls - absolutely no flavor except for the peanut sauce. It didn't even taste good. Owners - Hopefully you will take this review in good spirit and try to work upon on the actual flavor of the food to make it better. I moved out of the San Diego area a little over a year ago. I've tried some Thai restaurants in Oregon but they didn't compare to Ocean Thai. I was happy to be in San Diego on business and had time to visit Ocean Thai. The place is still nice even though the fish tank is no longer there. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken, delicious! I haven't tasted food that good in a while! It's been over 10 years since I first experienced Ocean Thai and believe me they have maintained great food quality and service over all these years. You just cannot go wrong by going to Ocean Thai! July 3, 2020 COVID-19 Era Glad that restaurants are open coz otherwise I'll die of starvation. For today's review of my lunch: Drunken Noodles with chicken and tofu with spicyness level # 2 (scale 1-10) + egg roll + salad with peanut sauce (lunch menu) and Thai Iced Tea: Hits just the spot for my craving of noodle dish. The spicyness was just enough of a kick to sting a lil zap and not make me sweat and jump into a vat of milk or sugar or whatever to take the sting out of spicy stuff. So overall, it's good. The salad with the peanut sauce was refreshingly tasty too. Egg roll - it was oakey. I guess I'm more of a Filipino version of egg roll fan coz I do not like egg rolls that are filled with rice noodles. Thai Iced Tea - sipping it slowly to make it last, that's what! I've been to this cuisine a handful of times and forgot to write a review for it. Maybe, I just wasn't as active a Yelper (sorry!) back then! My apologies, so here it is. [Last visit was on Friday November 29th, 2019] There are always reasons why people return to the same place. It's either because the place is that good, or people seek to give it another chance to replace an old, mediocre memory. You can tell that the chefs and staff put in extra love when they bring out your food looking like it was put together by Picasso or Bob Ross (okay, maybe over exaggeration). Photos provided from the last visit, you could see that you'd HAVE to take a picture of it. Food: It definitely isn't fast food, that's for sure. I ordered Beef Pad Kee Mow, aka Drunken Noodles, on a heat level 8 of 10 and my friend had a mild Tofu Pad Thai with a soup on the side. Yes, there is a Lunch Special menu! And if I remembered correctly, it's Daily. My Pad Kee Mow was very delicious. Nothing was overcooked and you could taste every ingredient in the dish. The serving amount is fair as well! You're guaranteed to fill up if you can Champion your way to a clean plate. I'd lick my plate if my friend wasn't sitting across from me. Overall, you really go out to eat and expect 3 things: Food Quality, Wait Time, and Customer Service. As far as I'm concerned, those handful of visits have hit every mark. Oh, and one thing. Does anybody think a 10 scale spice level is too much? I think a 5 scale MAX is perfect. The Duck Curry, flavor that could cure heartbreak. Not that I've ever had my pimpin heart broken in my life, by one of these hoes. But if I had hypothetically found out only a few long days ago, that my sweet girl was talking to her ex-boyfriend, and she moved on without a second thought; This Thai Curry would come to unlock a vail of silent manly tears that had been stuffed away in stoicism from the week prior.
