I been coming here for years. I met the owner in college, thats how I've heard of her restaurants. The food is okay, thus i have noticed that the quality in ingredients has decreased and the food portions. They no longer serve rice bowls, single portions now. BIG BIG BIG for a restaurant is CUSTOMER SERVICE , THEY LACK CUSTOMER SERVICE! The waitresses are rude, and give you a mean look if you request anything additional or a special request. Also, language barrier. My last visit (two weeks ago) I order the Glass noodle soup , she brought me the beef soup . She brought menu out and asked me to show her what I wanted . The location of this place is great. The food is very good and service is fast. It is a nice place to eat with the family and every time we have been here, it has been consistent quality and service. So, I had been to this restaurant a few times with my family before. There had been issues with this place before, but nothing as bad as what occured when I went there last night. The service was horrible. We had to wait a while to get seated because none of the empty tables were cleaned. When we were seated, we were given menus fairly quickly, but it took them at least 20 minutes to take our order. The waitress who took our order doucle-checked 3 times to make sure she got it right, but nonetheless, problems occured with the food later on. I'll get to that later though. Anyways, it took about 10 minutes after ordering for them to bring us utensils and water. The appetizers and main dishes came fairly quickly, but when my order of Pad-see-ew noodles arrived, they were made gluten free, which meant that there wasn't any of the sauce on it. I did not say that I wanted them gluten free, and even after double-checking 3 times, the waitress still got it wrong. I had to wait 10 more minutes just for them to add sauce. I would have let an error like this go, but this very same thing has occured 3-4 times previously. After such a bad experience, they really should've made my dish free, but they didn't. Ocean Thai and rim talay are my favorite Thai restaurants in north county. Highly recommend

100% wheelchair accessible, VERY knowledgable and friendly staff, great atmosphere for all ages, and AMAZING food. The restrooms were family/wheelchair friendly, being one single restroom instead of a restroom with multiple stalls. We actually ordered take-out and had a drink while we waited. We ordered the fresh rolls, papaya salad (5 spicy), red curry (7 spicy), yellow curry (5 spicy), and pork spare ribs. Everything was delicious and very on track with normal Thai cuisine. The 7 degree spicy was perfect for me, I do not like extreme spice, but I found the 5 degree lacking spice. My date, who does not have a high spice tolerance, also ordered the 5 spice and wished he got a 6. Over all we will go again and again. read more

It is hit or miss with this place, at least with the service. The food is okay, not outstanding and not horrible. I tend to rate higher or lower based on service and it really depends on the day and the staff. The past two times we've visited we've had the unfortunate experience of being helped by one of the women there who doesn't seem to value excellent customer service. We dined in and had to wait approximately 20 minutes although there were only 4 other people in the restaurant. When we ordered drinks one of our glasses came out dirty and when we asked to have a new glass, attitude ensued. We ordered the spicy fried rice and requested to have no tomatoes and no mushrooms but when the plate came out it had both and again when we asked to have this corrected it seemed like it was a complete bother to our server. While we have been here and had great service, the past few times left much to be desired. read more

Coming from San Francisco, it's difficult to find authentic asian food in North County but Ocean Thai does not dissapoint. From their Thai Iced Tea to Pad Thai and Fried Banana dessert, Ocean Thai is a well-rounded authentic Thai restaurant. If you've never had Thai food before, make sure you read up on the food before going because their wait staff won't be much help explaining. We've taken some risks in the past and have yet to be dissapointed with taste. Just make sure you are open to whatever ends up on the table. However, I do like coming here for the tom yum goong when I'm in the mood, and my fiancé and I both like getting the mango and sticky rice when he's in town. Thai Cuisine is typically one of the most flavorful and complex cuisines on the planet that said, the rule does not seem to apply to "Ocean Thai Cuisine." We found Ocean Thai Cuisine to be bland, boring, and "Meh." Not to mention, it was over priced for marginal food. We were asked how the dish was after we had a few bites and we responded to the waitress that the food was lacking flavor, pizazz, and or any of the Thai complexity that we know and love. Having owned our own restaurant for over thirty years, when a client is as honest, and providing a real true assessment and well intentioned feedback the waiter/waitress should then ask if their was something else that the client would like to try from the menu, or offer to take the dish and rework the dish. Instead, our feedback was met with "oh, sorry to hear that." The food was edible, just lackluster and the Laissez-faire attitude of the restaurant was so much less than what one should expect from a restaurant establishment. "One should work hard to live up to your expectations and strive to exceed them all." Unfortunately, Ocean Thai Cuisine has failed every step of the way! Do not spend your hard-earned money on an establishment that does not put the customer first and at least try to accommodate your wishes to better themselves! read more

The food is very tasty! I would say most of the food is definelty quality as far as I am concerned. I had the coconut shrimp was one of the best I had. The monkey balls tasted well. The wesley roll was tasty and the sushi did have quality behind every bite. I will say the overall decor was average, not my type of place to eat but is good if your with your family or on a date. Discovered this little gem after reading reviews on Yelp. We ordered the lunch specials and 1 extra item. Menu is well laid out with nice color photos. We ordered Won ton soup, nice tasty broth with shrimp (1) and a few ground pork stuffed wontons. Overall a good soup, but not my best one though. My wife ordered Chicken Red Curry and said it was very very good. The sauce tasted great and had that nice curry taste. I ordered the Chicken and basil with garlic. Kai gra pow. I asked for them to give me extra juice and to make it 10 hot. Dish came spicy but hardly no juice, I love the sauce. Dish was very tasty and I really enjoyed it. They had so much more items but no stomach to hold them. I give these place 4.5 stars but unfortunately there is no half stars given. Yelp please give us the half stars. Friends, if you are ever in Oceanside, stop by this little place, you will enjoy it. Note, it is located in the old Mervyns shopping center as it is a little hard to find. Enjoy! read more

Terrible service and high prices. Arrived at 2:54 and noticed a sign: "Lunch Specials 11:00 - 3:00 and thought, "oh goodie, I get to enjoy a lunch special." Our server walked past our table 5 times; she then proceeded to clean off chairs. She finally walked over at 3:01 and when I pointed at the lunch special menu she quickly, "Nope, lunch special over, 3:01." I was in shock. She timed coming over to the table and was ready with "3:01." She then got another woman to come over to the table and this woman also said, "3:01, no lunch special." BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES!!! I said, "What, we have been sitting here for 7 minutes and you kept walking past us." She then angrily approved the lunch special order. It was creepy and awkward to say the least. Unbelievable, as a business owner myself, if a customer did walk in at 3:01 (which i didn't), I would have still honored the "lunch special." Ridiculous!!! Also, spring rolls were way too expensive. I was almost dragged here by my husband and daughter. I wanted sushi, but was outvoted. We all LOVED LOVED LOVED IT!!!! We split the fresh roll appetizer, chili shrimp delight, and the sweet and sour stir fry. We were beyond impressed with the fast service, freshness of the food, and the QUALITY. It was like fine dining, except it is a little hole in the wall located in a strip mall. We have passed by this place a hundred times and never gave it a second thought, but saw the Yelp ratings which were favorable. The place is clean, the wait staff are extremely attentive, service was an A++...we didn't even finish the appetizer before the food arrived - hot, savory, mouth watering, good portion sizes (3 of us ate 2 dishes and still had leftovers). Every dish can be customized to the level of heat you want. The food is very well presented - looking like a high end restaurant made the dish. Tables are set with nice linen napkins, quality flatware, and professional serve ware. I could go on and on and on... but really you just need to go and give it a try. These owners could take their operation and open a high end joint in a ritzy part of town and charge 5x the price with this level of service and food quality - but I'm glad they are a small little shop down the street from our house. Seriously we talked about the food for days after we ate there. Do yourself a favor and pass up all the chain restaurants along that highway and give these LOCAL guys a shot - you won't be disappointed. read more

I am from out of town and love authentic Thai food. I discovered Drunken Noodles at the restaurant where I used to work and have been trying them everywhere I go ever since! (I'm so addicted I will eat them every night if I can, hence all the reviews of it) I want to let you know that I always order them vegan(no eggs, fish or oyster sauce) and that I love extremely spicy food, so please keep that in mind when reading my reviews. That said, here goes.... 1) Spice level-I ordered my noodles thai hot, and for the first time in a long time they were spicy enough!! I had three glasses of water, so i was very, very happy! YEA!!! 2) Taste- almost perfect. ideally, i would have added a little more sweet soy sauce(which i asked for, but the woman was not sure what i was talking about, i've had this problem other places so its not a big deal). the tofu had excellent flavor, though the pieces were huge so i had to cut them in half. the veggies were wonderfully crisp and noodles were cooked to perfection. they didn't charge me for the extra veggies i asked for, but i would have loved jalapenos in the dish 3) Service-i got to-go, but they were great! very accomodating and friendly even though i walked in (unknowingly)15 minutes b4 close. I ordered in person and they were ready in about 7 minutes, couldn't have been faster! they also got my order right, which can be an issue when ordering vegan food. 4) Location- the only problem with it is that my GPS had a hard time finding it b/c it is in a strip mall. 5) Price vs. Portion Size- I am from Kansas and an athlete, so I can eat a lot. Back home, my fav place would have given me 1/4-1/3 more food for the same price. However, in the midwest bigger is better and obestiy runs rampant, so take that as you may. If possible, I would have given this place a 4.5-4.75. One thing you should know if you are a dine in guest is that i did not notice any booths, which would have been nice. read more

My favorite Thai food place in north county! They have two locations (the other off mission/el camino in o'side) and both don't disappoint. I ate a lot of homemade Lao and Thai food while hanging out often at my best friends house growing up. I knew I found a legit Thai food joint because their food tastes just like the food my friend's family made. Some of my favorite dishes: drunken noodles, som tom (papaya salad) w/sticky rice, green, red and panang curries, tom yum coconut soup, spicy fried rice, eggplant basil stir fry, larb...I guess the list can go on. Every time I order any of my favorites, it comes out the same - always consistent in taste and spice levels. I've turned on a lot of friends and family to this place and now they come here to get their Thai food fix. No other place will do. They have great lunch specials too. read more

Ocean Thai had pretty good reviews, so I was looking forward to a nice lunch. The restaurant is in a strip-mall type setup and there is no ambiance or decor. Tables, chairs, cashier's counter. Very clean and stark. The staff were very polite and attentive. I ordered the luncheon drunken noodles. It came with coconut soup and a small lumpia-like rolls that seemed vegetarian. I looked, but couldn't find any chicken in them. The soup was tasty, but a little too sweet and coconut-y. It wasn't balanced with the lemongrass. My drunken noodles were spiced medium-hot, as per my request, but they were VERY greasy. The chicken was all white meat, which was nice. My companions had the pad thai,which had a strong tomato/ketchup taste to it. Our general consensus was that the cooking was too greasy, and the Thai flavorings weren't enough in evidence to suit. I'm still looking for a good Thai restaurant in North County San Diego! Sorry, Ocean Thai, it's not you. read more

It was the first & will definitely be the last time I ever eat here. First off: the waitress was rude. I was also carrying my infant in her car seat. She asked if I needed a highchair. Before I could answer her, she walked away. I just stood there thinking she went & grabbed one. The host noticed I was still standing & had brought one right away. It wasn't busy at all & we were the 2nd customer that evening. The waitress whispered to the host in Thai that I didn't want the highchair. Little do they know that I understood Thai perfectly. I was baffled & didn't want to get off on the wrong foot with them. So I let that slide thinking maybe she's had a bad day. Secondly: I had the Tom Yum w/chicken soup. I noticed my chicken was black, which was odd. I brought it up to the host since the waitress never came to the table. The host apologized & took the bowl back to the kitchen. She then came back explaining from the cook's theory as to why it was black. Basically they didn't wash the cutting board all day. So apparently the "blacken" part of my chicken was a cross contaminated residue... BARF! The host asked if I wanted a new bowl of the same order. By that time, I've already lost my appetite & never went back. read more
