I enjoyed coming here for years. I go to Dr. Fang for my routine teeth cleaning and I see Dr. Hall when I have occasional problem with cavities. Dr. Fang is thorough and reliable, she makes the whole process of seeing a dentist pleasant. Dr. Hall is very skilled the last time he fixed my cavity, there was no pain at all. I cannot say enough about Dr. Dang. Let me just say I really don't mind any delay and would gladly wait 2 hours for him... I think other reviewers cannot appreciate how much hard work and stress these providers go through. I am a recent new patient and when I met him during my cleaning, I was pleasantly surprised how kind and respectful he was relative to previous dentists. I was very anxious during my cavity filling but was immediately put at ease because of Dr. Dang and his patience for me. He told me what he was doing every step of the way and consistently reassured me throughout the whole process. I've never had bedside manner such as this with any other dentist or doctor. His care and expertise is exceptional and makes the whole experience quite pleasant and relaxing. He doesn't even make you feel bad or guilty if you're not keeping up with proper dental hygiene but instead respectfully reminds you what to do. Because of Dr. Dang I am not anxious of future appointments and no longer have a phobia towards dentists. Manhattan Beach Dentistry provided an all around excellent service. I needed significant dental work that I had been putting off. My first visit was professional, thorough and at a fair price. Dr. Fang provided detailed explanations for the work than needed to be done. HIs patience with a squeamish patient was remarkable. I've been going there for a few years now and I'm happy with the service I've received. The place is slightly dated and dirty, but the staff is pretty friendly and I feel welcomed when I'm there. The only thing I didn't like was a woman dentist trying to push a $90 "deep cleaning" on me when I was a couple months late for my 6 month visit. I knew I didn't need it (I floss and use fluoride rinse daily) and asked if we could skip it this time and do a regular cleaning. She hesitantly said yes and proceeded to have my teeth cleaned the way they always have and my they were fine leading me to believe it was just a push to make more money. I had a friend tell me thy did this to her, too. Ever since then I've made sure I've gone on a day when I can see Dr. Hall and not that other dentist. He is always honest with me about what I need to do and gives me alternatives, if available. read more

I could go on for hours about how my son was choked by the suction and given a shot with no numbing, but wait they missed the gum and shot the tongue! They made me miss school, and didn't even appologize. I went back the next day for my NEW appointment and the dentist who gave me my fillings was actually very nice, the morons working with him were AWFUL. The dental hygenist who cleaned my teeth, I'm not even joking, cleaned for 1 minute... I left with dirty teeth. Is it weird to say that I love this place? I don't typically feel that way about dentist's offices but this place was great. 1. The receptionists were understanding that I was running a little late 2. The dentist was very thorough- he showed me how to clean my teeth and let me hold the mirror to see-I've never had a dentist show and talk me through what he was doing and 3. The assistant Elizabeth was awesome. She took me on right away with a big smile on her face. Her attitude was so sweet which is refreshing because normally dental assistants are impersonal. I have to agree with Sara. This office is horrible. Dr. Hall told me that I had to replace two of my fillings (supposedly loose/cracked) and get a deep cleaning (no other work other than antiquated x-rays was done that day). The estimate was $700 for both, even though I checked with my insurance later and they said these procedures were covered (at least in part). Manhattan Beach Dental insisted that insurance didn't cover anything. I changed my insurance from a DMO to a PPO for the next year and went to my new dentist just down the street (Beach Cities Dentistry). He says that he gets a lot of complaints from former Manhattan Beach Dental Group clients. He examined my teeth and determined that all I needed was a regular cleaning. I later told him what my previous experience was. He said that I would know before a dentist would if my fillings were loose. He also said that the fillings MBD recommended to be replaced couldn't be done because they were too deep (and would involve a lot a restructuring work; at least a root canal and a crown) and it was best to leave them until they actually needed attention. Totally the opposite of what Dr. Hall said. Also, the place wasn't the nicest. It was really dark and dusty within the office. My advise is to stay far away from this practice. read more

Looking through the book I noticed Dr. Hall's address. That was good news! The two crowns that he put in for me were nicely done and his knowledge of dentistry was excellent! I have been going to this dental office for the past 4 years. The dentists are consistently either Dr Larry Hall or Dr Jean Fang. I have been treated very well by both of them, and they have even taking the time to educate me on prevention for my specific dental issues. They have both helped me a lot over the years, and they are very professional and knowledgeable. So I am really perplexed by the negative reviews on Yelp. Staff and dentist are very helpful, friendly and always willing to work out the financial side of anything extra that needs to be done that is not covered by insurance. Wow, I should have read the reviews on yelp before going to this dentist. From the very first phone call, the receptionist was rude and made it seem very difficult to make an appointment. I went ahead and made an appt. for my husband and he hated it!!! I almost made an appt for our kids and myself, but when I went to drop off the paperwork the receptionist didn't even acknowledge me and continued making phone calls while she was taking to me. I did some research and found a great dentist in Torrance!!! The receptionist is so friendly and made my appt. quickly and easily! This HMO dentist's office is great as long as you don't actually have to go there. I went to this office for about 5 years, generally going pretty rarely. Then we have recently had a spate of needs within a short period of time and the dentist's office dropped us without warning. My son was scheduled to have an appointment for fillings on July 19th. On the evening of the 18th, I received a letter from my insurance stating that the dentist had decided to drop us. You see, the dentist gets paid a cap rate from my insurance, meaning that they get paid the same amount per month whether I go to the dentist or not. So when my son, my daughter and I all had visits within 2 months of each other, it no longer meant financial sense for them to keep us as patients. But it was great for them for all those months that we were paying and not going. read more

I took my two children, husband and my 83 mother there - Everyone agreed they do not want to return. The office looks and feels like a free clinic - In addition their rates are high - do yourself a favor and call a couple of other dentists. I've given them 2 stars because while the work they perform is good, their patient billing practices are terrible. I have been going to them for over 2 years. 7 months ago I went in for a standard cleaning and they required me to pay an additional $90 on top of what my insurance covered. They claimed that I needed 'slightly deeper' cleaning. This was the 2nd time in a row that they have required me to pay above and beyond the insurance. At that time they also took full Xrays. They requested that I come back 6 months later, I ended up making it in on the 7th month. As soon as I sat down they started taking another set of Xrays. I stopped them and said this had just been done and that it was my understanding that Xrays were done every 2 years. They seemed surprised, checked my chart and agreed. Next the Dr. sat down and immediately said I need a 'slightly deeper' cleaning costing me another $90. I refused, saying that I only want the basic cleaning. The Dr went over to talk with the office manager who came back with a somewhat scowl on her face and flatly told me that an additional charge of $90 is required. I declined again, saying that my gums have slighly receeded and that my teeth are easy to clean. She walked away, the doctor came back and started to explain that they cannot do a standard cleaning. I got up, went to the front desk. Asked for my co-payment back and was told "no, you saw the doctor and we won't refund your payment" This is true, I did and didn't dispute this. I walked out. If you are considering this venue, think again. If you choose this venue make absolutely sure that they are not charging you for things you don't need. Good luck, take care. read more

Complete hack. Not only do they over charge what your insurance covers for procedures but the dentist doesn't know how to read x-rays. 4 months ago, I had an abscess around my tooth....he says its caused by decay/cavity and I need a root canal. Same thing happens again this week one the SAME TOOTH. He says oh wait, it might be a fracture in the tooth, gotta go to the specialist. Specialist says there was no sign on decay/cavity at all...that it has always been a fracture and the root canal was completely unnecessary because the tooth needs to be extracted. Think I get a refund for the scam they pulled on the root canal? NOPE. Don't waste your money or time by trusting this dentist. You end up paying for more than you should. read more

Manhattan Beach Dentistry is the worst dentist office I have EVER been to in my life! Their prices are extremely too high! When you make an appointment for one service, they suggest added services and strongly influence you to do other services. The front staff are very unfriendly and have promised several call backs with no return calls. There were calls to get an understanding about a service and the staff complained to another family member out of my presences, that I didn't understand what I was reading. What happened to customer service? I am disgusted and annoyed with this dentist office. A deep cleaning @ $150 dollars? 6 months later another deep cleaning? I felt like sharing this information. The only good service that was rendered is the scheduling of the appointment by reception. I wish Yelp had a negative star. Payment is for a service and not to be insulted. I had a very good experience today with the office I had a horrible toothache last night. I called the dental office this morning and told the receptionist if I could be seen today because my tooth was killing me and I wasn't able to sleep all night. The receptionist was so nice and friendly she told me that yes I could be seen and to go right over. It was my first time there I filled out all my paperwork and they help me figure out what my dental coverage was. I was seen by Dr. Hall he was very thorough and explained in detail his findings he said it was my wisdom tooth that was causing the pain and that I was going to need a specialist. Dr Hall walked me to the reception and said that it was nice meeting me and that the receptionist was going to help me find a specialist. The receptions was very helpful she contacted my insurance to let them know I needed a specialist and after a couple of phone calls she found me a specialist to see me right away. I am really pleased and happy with my new dental office. I read the previous reviews and I honestly didn't experience anything like that. I'm just pretty happy that tonight I'm going to be able to get a good night sleep!! read more

WORST DENTAL OFFICE EVER! First I called the office to make an appt for new patient teeth cleaning for myself and husband. Rude staff on phone and even worst in person. I was told they do not do cleaning on first time appt. Only xrays and examination. On the day of, they asked if I had time I can get my cleaning too that day. Hello!, that's what I orignally asked for! They charged us $90 each for the cleaning and told us it was because they had to do a "deep cleaning" and insurance doeen't cover. Now I'm a 35yr woman and have my teeth cleaned plenty times. They did NOT do anything different or special! Nor did they send me off with a new toothbrush/floss as usually get with a cleaning. Instead they gave me a list of "recommended" procedures" at $1500+. But most importantly the front desk staff and manager were extremely unpleasant, not nice. I visited this dental office on a Groupon laser teeth whitening. I was greeted by a rude front office staff member that advised me that my IPhone screen shot of my Groupon coupon would not be accepted as Groupon advises that it will? I had to do a screenshot and email it to them to receive services. I recommend that they speak with Groupon to workout this policy issue. From there, I had a dental assistant who barely spoke any English so trying to find out how the process worked was impossible. She proceeded to adjust my chair to where I was basically almost upside down so she could put all kinds of protective equipment in my mouth which took approximately 20 minutes. After that another 20 minutes with the laser beam on in this same uncomfortable position. My complaint is why leave a patient in this position while the laser is on? The laser is adjustable, therefore you would think the dental assistant would adjust the seat to a more comfortable position for the laser part of the service? In addition, they take a lunch break from 1 to 2, my appointment was at 2. Please, be more conscientious of that fact so customers do not have to smell your lunch throughout their treatment!!! read more
