The service was lacking - especially after the waitress bragged about the service she would provide. The hamburger not very good, but we didn't anticipate a great burger at a seafood place - (this was my16 year old daughter's assessment). I booked the Miramar Loft for our 2021 Christmas Party. I had not used the Oceanic prior to this event so my expectations were guarded. My contact, Hayley Upton, did an excellent job through the entire process. She was very professional and responded quickly. To everyone's delight the entire evening went flawlessly. The Service: Jessica, Savanna, Carmen and Katie were gracious and ever-present. I did not need to "find" anyone. They anticipated what was needed and reacted immediately to any requests we had. I felt well cared for. The Food: Amazing!!! The hors d'oeuvres (Coconut Shrimp, Crab Cakes, Tomato Bruschetta, and Chicken & Waffle) were served table-to-table and were absolutely fabulous. The main course was served buffet style. The food was kept hot and fresh. We had the Lumina Roasted Chicken and the Crab Stuffed Salmon as our entrées with roasted new potatoes and asparagus. I do a bit of cooking so I had to sample both the salmon and chicken, which were incredible. I sent out an email to Hayley the next morning booking the venue for next year. read more

WOW. I had a good experience here as a tourist last summer, especially since service was pretty good considering the rush. However, I'm leaving a review now because today I had CLARA as my server; which was a whole new amazing experience. The atmosphere at Oceanic is beautiful when you time it right and when the weather isn't too windy, but Clara brought to my late lunch what no aesthetic could provide. She was personable, friendly, prompt, social, and was always there to check in and see how I was doing. She gave excellent recommendations for the menu. She was SO fun to talk to! It was honestly because of how sociable and relaxing she made the experience that I actually stayed for another drink. I again ordered the Crystal Pier Salad, which was INCREDIBLE, and you can never go wrong with the old bay fries. She mentioned that she really wanted patrons to have "the full experience" while at Oceanic. Well, Clara, congratulations-- you did it! I understand things are different due to Covid, but we spent close to $80 on takeout and the food was sub par and very small portions. We tipped 20% on takeout and later asked the bartender who ignored us at the bar for 5 minutes for a to go soda , and charged us $6 more for 2 sodas that were flat. We then took the food to the beach and there was no silverware or napkins in the bag to eat our food. Pretty disappointed. First timer. Waitress and hostess were pleasant and welcoming. We decided to eat inside because it was a warm afternoon. We went around 11:30am a and there was no one in the dining room except us. Everyone else was on the pier dining (probably 4 tables). We had hush puppies that were crispy and full of flavor with whipped butter. She provided excellent recommendations. Drinks and food were reasonably priced, given they could charge more based on the view. She crab soup, blackened mahi and scallops were delicious. Having moved recently to Wilmington from Cliffside Park, NJ I saw "Oceanic" and decided to visit, thinking it was the "Oceanic" from Paramus, NJ. Thus, I asked for a Bellini and 15 min later I was told that they were missing a few ingredients. Afterwards,I asked what wines they offered in a glass and she said "red or white." The Manager approached with a complimentary "Budweiser" but to his surprise, I said rhat I don't drink beer. After talking to him for a few minutes, he told me thet the owners were from Northern Italy, so I asked for a plate of "ossobuco con risotto." Naturally, it was not in the Menu. This place holds a very special place in our hearts because this is where we got engaged. I wanted to love it so bad but I got to be honest, the overpriced food was NOT even good. I ordered Carolina crab cakes and they came out curry flavored? My hubby ordered steak, he said medium rare and it came out only like 10% cooked on each sides. Sent it back and they took all the flavors out and reheat it to a well done steak and took all his fries and replaced them with vegetables. He ate a few bites and he couldn't finish his $30 steak. I mean... it was a hot mess. During our dinner there was some scattered storm coming in that rained on us, we saw a family asked to go back inside and we did the same. The manger here did not handle stress very well. He rolled his eyes and yelled at his employees "that's it. Get them out?" While I went up to ask them. He was saying that about the drunk young group of men. Totally disregarding me seeking help after being rained on outside. Like people weren't allowed to get drunk and he never saw rain a day in his life? I feel like with the restaurant being near water and how much coastal NC area got rained on, you would think they know what to do or have backup plans as professionals. Nope. Very messy liked circus. We decided to have dinner here for the ocean view. Our wait was almost 2 hours. We did enjoy standing on the pier while we waited. I decided to go with the first available seating instead of outdoor with the wait being so long. Even though it was inside, there was potential for it to still be a great dining experience, but there was no music so all you heard was forks clinking. My entree, the shrimp and grits, was very good, but I couldn't enjoy it while looking at my husbands. He ordered the fried shrimp dinner, which for 20$ was a plate of a few small shrimp with a few French fries thrown on it and nothing else. Ate at the Oceanic tonight for a beautiful ocean view. The waitress was extremely nice. Those are the good points. The food is always blah and tasting like it could be a day old and reheated. We ordered 2 drinks. Neither the pear martini, not the specialty drink tasted like there was alcohol in them. The waitress offered to get us other drinks, and said there were some new bartenders. I guess I didn't have great expectations based on my fellow Yelpers' reviews, but I just really wanted that ocean front dining experience - on a pier! - that they offer. The two things that saved them from a one-star review were the complimentary hush puppies and that view. You just really get the feeling that they don't think they have to try. My burger was just okay, but it seemed to be sitting under the heat lamp for some time as the plate was roasting and the bottom of the bun was almost inedibly soggy. Even worse, the lettuce on my burger was brown, slimy, and gross! The fries were like like cardboard. Even though the view was nice, the music was so loud pumping out of tinny speakers that peppered the pier every few feet that it definitely dampened the outdoor experience. The service was aggressively "nice" - not genuinely friendly and bordering on condescending. The bathroom was decorated well but it was dirty! Dined here last night had the calabash and it was pretty good standard beach fare with fries, hush puppy's and apple coleslaw but where was the apples and maybe I am use to my coleslaw with that sweet and sour twang but this apple coleslaw was about the blandest coleslaw I have ever tasted. I am not sure how but I am pretty sure we had the perfect Oceanic Experience. I see the reviews really lean on the atmosphere and service but not as much on the food. I was lucky enough to hit high marks on all 3. We had a 45 minute wait but during out wait we walked the pier and got a drink at the outside bar. It was absolutely gorgeous out and the 6 of us patiently waited and at 45 minutes we got the call. Our table was ready. We were seated outside and had plenty of room. We were served by a lovely girl that I wish I had gotten her name. We immediately got a big basket of fantastic hush puppies with butter. They we soooooo good. Super service from our waitress and great with suggestions. We started with the crab dip with toasted pita points and also got the fried oyster tower with parmesan spread. Both, fantastic and the crab dip was warm with big pieces of crab in it. Our watress sold the scallops and shrimp and grits and we had 3 people order the shrimp and grits and 2 others order the Scallops. I am from Charleston, home of Shrimp and Grits and can't remember any that I liked better. I think the secret ingredient is white pepper but not sure. Did not see pepper in there and there was a prefect little bit of heat that seemed like pepper. The shrimp were large and not overcooked or chewy. Really delightful. I ate a bite(or two) of my wife's scallops and wow, they were fantastic as well. We had 6 people and everyone seemed to love everything about our evening. It was a birthday so we were excited that the waitress brought out a slice of the Key Lime Pie for our birthday boy with 6 spoons. No way any of us could have eaten an entire piece with that big meal we just ate. I am super sold on this place an don't know if I will ever get this lucky with the food here but I am sure going to give it a try. They target people who park at their business. We have ate here many times and then go to the beach, as do MANY others. After we ate, we walked to beach and they followed us to the beach and told us we had 10 mins to leave or they were gonna tow us. There were many others parked with families walking to beach from their lot and didn't say anything to them and they didn't even go to their business. Without being said, we will NEVER go to this business again. The little parking patrol guy they have on duty is rude and needs to get a life. Food isn't that great either. read more

First time coming here. The view is pretty but everything else was not great. The lag time on trying to order and receive food and drinks was terrible. Very understaffed which I know is how the world is now but maybe don't seat as many tables. Food wasn't great. Poke was terrible. They forgot sauce for one of the sandwiches and told us it didn't come with any when the menu said it did. Worst of all, the pigeons. I'm pretty sure this is a health code violation. People would finish eating and leave the table, the pigeons would come and invade, all over everything. The time from people leaving to someone coming to bus the table, at least 10-15 minutes. Stopped in after a day at the beach, hoping for a quick meal.. well it was anything but. Our waitress was clueless. There were 5 of us. 2 ordered stuffed salmon, 1 steak and 1 chicken sandwich. The other girl wanted the fish tacos.. was told no because they stopped serving at 4. Well, we were seated at 3:30 and it took till 4:30 till our waitress look the order. Asked for a manager and she said ok, and put the order in for the fish tacos. Food came out, looked great. Then they bring a 3rd stuffed Salmon, didn't need it. Then another fish taco.. didn't need it. Food tasted great. Checks came and there was an extra check for that stuffed salmon, she tried making us pay for it. Had to explain 5 ppl and we all had our orders. My bill was missing a drink, she went to fix it. It took 15 minutes for her to come back and give it to me..after ringing out every one else and multiple trips to the table to give back cards. By the time I paid, I was not happy and just wanted to leave. It's a convenient restaurant but I won't be back, to much hassle! read more
