Christmas Eve lunch with out of town visitors. The hostess were great and our large party was seated right away upstairs where the views were amazing. It was too windy to sit outside. Service was good even though they were pretty busy, not the best as I never got tea refill but I'll cut the server some slack I'm pleased to say there has been a definite improvement in the quality of the food since the remodel. Everyone enjoyed their meal, I got my usual, fried shrimp which is always good. Others had chicken sandwich, burgers and crab cakes and fish tacos. All gone and no complaints. One question, why is the stumbling islander cocktail missing from the menu? Please return it as your signature cocktail. My out of town guests were disappointed and missed it! read more

So I goofed up and didn't take any pictures of the food...but we had a large group and we were all starving after a beach party. After being in town all weekend for Grizmas, we decided we needed one last family meal together. We all shared the calamari, crab dip, fried oysters, and the spicy shrimp(not sure what they were called). We ended up drinking some type of blueberry lemonade which was a hit because 9 of us got one..lol. I had the she crab soup and a crab cake which were both amazing! My girlfriend who sat next to me ordered the chicken(yes I know she's crazy for getting chicken in a seafood place...lol) she said the mashed potatoes were probably the best she's ever had. All in all I did not here one single complaint. I want to give a HUGE shout out to our server Dani. That poor girl got a big table right before closing and didn't bat an eye. She gave us amazing service with a great attitude! We will be back next year and hopefully she'll be there so we can ask for her again. Also the sweet hostess Lily was super kind to us and helped us get set up even though we didn't know how many were going to be in our party. 10/10 would recommend hitting this place up if you're in town! read more

Ive been coming here the past year, as someone with a sea food allergy that might seem silly but the atmosphere fantastic and the service is always phenomena. this is my first review but my young server Camryn was amazing so I figured where it was time! Some of the staff almost deterred me away when I first walked in, making me feel like the restaurant was too good for my husband and I. But Clara made the whole visit better and honestly she was refreshingly sweet. Definitely going back to see her specifically. Management definitely needs to have the rest of the staff lead by her kindness in serving the public. read more

Waiter must have been first day on the job. Ordered u sweetened iced tea which took forever (and they were net busy). A table was seated after me by about five or ten minutes. Then the waiter brings the iced tea. I asked for lemon which never showed up. Waiter was polite and courteous; just not efficient. Coleslaw was tasteless. I asked for salt which never arrived either. It was hanging with the lemon. I ate Parmesan fried oysters. They were okay. I would have preferred regular fried oysters. Hush puppies were delicious though. Best part of the experience! read more

I have been going to Oceanic for years and have loved each visit. Last night i went and I can say that I'll never go again. I sat down and ordered a mocktail, as I have been alcohol free for two years. It was delish! I ordered my entree and decided on another mocktail, the same as before. When the mocktail was served, I noticed it tasted different but I thought it had more of one of the ingredients. Two swallows in, the waitress came to me and said that my mocktail had vodka in it. This may not be a big deal to others, but to someone who is trying to stay sober, it is. I left in a full panic with my meal in a doggy bag. My night was ruined and it was an already stressful day. I know that wait staff makes errors but this is a big one and I'll tell anyone not to go there because of it. Sobriety should not be jeopardized by poorly trained waitstaff. read more

I would recommend this place for the view, the outside bar & the bartenders Yami and Dan. It's a really nice place to go hangout and have a drink or two while looking at the water. Parking is a nightmare. I have never visited and there be any open spaces so I end up parking at a metered spot & paying. The food also falls a little short, I can't help but compare the food to other restaurants owned by the same company like Henry's, Hops, & Ale House. The food is a lot better at the other places which doesn't make much sense when this restaurant has the potential to be the real bread winner. Anywho, 5 stars for the view, Yami & Dan!!!! read more

Excellent seafood! I'm from Maine so I know fresh and this is absolutely a gem of a restaurant. One of the guests is not a seafood fan but she loved her burger. The Oceanic has been a staple for us when we visit the area. My mom has mobility issues and stairs are hard for her. It was hot tonight so we didn't want to sit on the pier so we asked for inside lower level seating. The hostess who didn't even look up said, "inside or outside" and we replied inside but downstairs please. She said the downstairs was 'closed.' I said what do you mean (because again this is not our first time). I made a comment that it wouldn't be easy for my mom and she said nothing. The nice young gentleman said we'll walk slow and my mom made it upstairs. Our food was good and service too. However, the appetizer plates stacked on our table were actually eaten off of. We took the top plate off and discovered half eaten dip on a plate. It honestly made us lose our appetite and the gentlemen we told just took them and replaced them with no I'm sorry or concern. After dinner I took my children on a walk on the pier while my husband stayed behind with my mom to pay the bill. When I came back inside, I saw a lower seating area that was very much not closed. That really made me mad and when I said something to the hostess she tried to act like it wasn't her that rudely greeted us and basically lied by telling me it was 'closed.' And then to argue that she wasn't the one that said that? Totally unprofessional. Unless she had an identical twin it was her. The irony is she told me it was for handicap people or those who couldn't manage the stairs? That was infuriating because I'm pretty sure that's what we communicated on the front end. However, I do have to say that Keith (I'm presuming the manager) was first class. He was very apologetic and even went to see my mom to apologize. I didn't realize this until she got outside. I really appreciated him making the extra effort and if he's not the manager, he should be. It's one thing to say you care and it's another thing to put action behind it. Thank you Keith for doing the right thing and setting an example of how customers should be treated. The Oceanic is a wonderful iconic spot on the island but the staff needs to remember it takes more than a beautiful view to keep people returning. read more

Cannot say nice enough things. My family and I stopped here while visiting Wreightsville Beach and were able to eat on the pier. The food and service was so good. We ended up getting several orders of the crab dip for the table, it was so good. I ended up with the crab cake sandwich and my husband had the crab stuffed salmon. I would honestly recommend both. I came to NC for my sister's graduation, and she really wanted a special dinner here. As advertised on their website, they claim they take graduation reservations (she's aware that normally they won't take them so she triple checked when she called to book it). She made that call two weeks in advance and called again to confirm a few days before our reservation. When she called to confirm, she was rudely told that even though she was promised a reservation, that they had no idea who she had spoken to and that she must be mistaken. The manager, Mark, told her to come anyway and ask for him so that he could try to help us. She thanked him because at this point most reservations at other places are full for graduation weekend and now we were left with very few options. When we arrived, we were told it was going to be an hour and 45 minute wait despite us seeing over 12 empty tables outside (this was not for social distancing purposes either). So we asked the hostess if Mark was available as he said to ask for him so he could try to help. What happens next is why this review is being written. Mark walked up to my sister, who had just graduated and spoke to her the way a third grade teacher would address a trouble making child. He started not with a "hello", a "congratulations", or an "i'm sorry we made a mistake and promised you a reservation and then revoked it", but looked at her and said "what did i tell you on the phone?" as if to say "why are you wasting my time?" even though he explicitly told her on the phone to ask for him when we arrived. We stood there stunned at his initial disrespect and feeling really intimidated, my sister and mother and I paused for a second until my sister apologized (even though she had nothing to be sorry for) and told him he had said to ask for him when we arrived. Mark made it clear she was no exception and basically embarrassed her in front of her family at what was supposed to be her graduation dinner. I insanely regret not telling this man to speak to my sister with more respect, and after he put us on the wait list she spent the next hour anxious and uncomfortable and we collectively decided to go somewhere else. My sister and I have both worked in the service industry for years, and completely respect that the restaurant was busy (despite the fact that we saw ten empty tables while we waited for the first hour). However, if a restaurant advertises reservations for graduation, gives you a reservation, and then revokes it two days before and tells you to come down anyway and ask for the manager, who turns around and treats you so terribly, there is absolutely not excuse for that. We would have never come down if we had realized Mark was going to be so disrespectful when my sister was just doing what he told her to do. We weren't even expecting to be given a table immediately, just that he might be apologetic or perhaps even honor the reservation or move us up on the wait list due to their mistake. He told her to come down and ask for him, and made her feel terrible for expecting him to do anything. It's just a shame because it really ruined my sister's once in a lifetime celebration . The main issue for me is the way he treated her. I've truly never witnessed someone speak to a customer that way, especially when we were just doing what he asked her to do. read more

Ok so, I wasn't really impressed with the food here or the service. I felt like if I'm coming to the beach then I'm gonna want some great seafood and every beach has one. Wellll, lets just say you can get seafood here but its nothing to brag about. I was more interested in the history of this place (the Lumina dance club back in the 20s, yeah 1920s not 2020s). I didn't feel as if our server was doing all they could have been. It wasn't that busy (at least I didn't think so). There was a long wait for this place (45+ mins) which I didn't understand either. We were kinda large party (only 8) but there seemed to be plenty of seating. The pier is nice to walk out on and get pics which took up most of our wait time. They do have a problem with pigeons and seagulls coming in and picking food of the plates from previous tables waiting to be bussed. Menu was limited I felt but I can't hold that against since Covid has played a big part in that. Which I understand. it is a pretty autmosphere with a beach front view. If that's all you're looking for then this place will suffice by far. read more

We went here on Labor Day weekend because we'd seen so many good reviews. After our experience I simply cannot understand why. We were told it would be an hour and a half wait. Understandable because of the holiday and the short staffing issues everywhere. After 2:45 we finally got seated. It then took half an hour for us to get recognized by a wait staff, after we asked 3 servers who was covering us. We finally got to order a Caesar salad with salmon and a fried seafood plate. Another 45 minutes to get our meal. My salmon was so dried out I couldn't eat it. Four hours to eat a bowl of lettuce. And don't get. me started on the disgusting pigeons everywhere. My wife and daughter and I ate at Oceanic "south" today. While the food was decent, the atmosphere was atrocious. Is this a restaurant or a pigeon sanctuary? Do not go here unless you enjoy birds flocking around your table and jumping on the nearest departed table after each diner leaves. Did I mention the bird droppings onto my shirt from the rafters? I felt bad for the wait staff who had to constantly shoo birds off of diners tables. This place needs to either close or build enclosed windows to ensure a clean, hygienic food service offering. For years I have been going to this restaurant and have recommended many times! Last Sunday September 20i went with some friends for lunch. I always get a salad topped with blackened Maui! I don't mind usually pay around $8 more. I don't mind paying more. However this day the server came back and informed me that the cost would be $28 more on top of the cost of the salad!! The manager came over and offered to reduce the price to 24$ as a favor. I was insulted by this and found the price ridiculous!! On top of that the service has gone way down and I Han to pick something else to eat that I didn't want. Don't think I will be going back or recommending it up my customers any more! I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch at the Oceanic. The service, atmosphere and food was top notch. Cameron, my server, was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the crab cake burger, Yum! It was adequately seasoned and contained more crab than cake. The butter bibb lettuce was fresh, the brioche bun was buttered and the remoulade sauce was the icing on the cake! Came in on a stormy Saturday afternoon and headed out to the pier bar. Ordered some drinks and watched the lightening on the water. GREAT spot on the water to take in the views! We decided to order up some food and was not disappointed. The Calamari was just outstanding. There are chopped banana peppers in the batter...yum! The portion was a great value and they were cooked perfectly. The Poke Bowl was great with a healthy portion of tuna with pita chips and cucumber slices. The Station 7 Double Stacked Burger with Old Bay fries was one of the best burgers I've had. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, it was just phenomenal. I was expecting the Lobster and Shrimp Sliders we got for takeout to be just as good but they were a bit salty for my liking. The portions we're good and the meat was in nice big chunks. Maybe just a heavy hand with the salt on this batch but I'd be sure to ask before ordering. I did read some critical service reviews before we arrived and can say they are still working out the kinks. The wait staff were all very pleasant and willing to help yet it seemed a bit understaffed to me or perhaps more training is needed to expedite the service a bit. As I mentioned early, everyone was super nice, I just believe the team hasn't worked together long enough yet to be a fine tuned engine. Time will tell but with the views off the pier and the ocean breeze what's a few more minutes waiting? Parking is an ISSUE as well during busy times. There are pay for spots on the street but they can fill up quick. read more

We were a party of three. Our drink order was two sweet teas and a piña colada which were very good. We next had a appetizer of calamari which was also good. Once are entrées arrived the word good had disappeared. Our entrées were the salmon wrap, Parmesan truffle french fries and tuna poke appetizer, and the catch of the day swordfish. The salmon wrap after one bite I decided to take the salmon out and eat that alone. Parmesan truffle fries were very flavorful. I would seriously not recommend the tuna poke. The swordfish was overcooked dry and flavorless. Hoping for a memorable ending to our meal we decided on the Keylime pie. At best it was a watered down version of a Keylime pie where toasted coconut has no place. read more
