The battery the nice folks at Oceanworks told me was fine ("could be rodents")
      Rafaela R.

I took my car here for a general checkup before I was going to go on a long roadtrip as well as an oil change and tire rotation. Because they don't have the necessary equipment to do tire alignments or wheel rebalancing, I had to take my car to a second shop around two days later, where they told me that my battery was on the verge of dying. I went back to this shop and showed them the picture of the battery, and the man at the service counter and one of the mechanics told me that it wasn't battery acid, he didn't know what it was but it could be "rodents" or what happens to the battery when someone spills hot water on it? I went here because my neighbor has been taking her car here for a long time, and to be fair the woman at the service counter offered me a complimentary battery cleaning and testing - but the relationship with the mechanic, for me, is one of trust, and I don't trust anything this shop says based on my one and only experience, and on the man at the front being totally dismissive when I had the consideration to go in and speak with them directly. There are a lot of other mechanics in the area within walking distance that will treat you decently.

Quick turnaround, super expensive. I feel like I was overcharged but most car places leave you feeling like that.

Part of what Oil Changers proposes to offer is to check all fluid levels and to top off, to check brake lights, belts, signals, head lights and air filter, to clean the windshield and check tire air pressure. This is exactly what my old mechanic used to do before he retired. Too often, though, they skip many or all of these tasks. I could understand that this might happen if they were super busy but it often happens when they're slow. More importantly, when you get your invoice, these items are checked off as if they've been performed when they have not. Honestly, this does not give me the feeling of being well taken care of but leaves a taste of deception in my mouth even if the basic task of changing the oil and filter has been performed correctly. I leave wondering what else might have been missed through inattention. I have no problem in general with the folks that work there, they're always welcoming and friendly. If it's too much to ask of them to do these basic safety and maintenance checks maybe it shouldn't be asked of them and maybe it shouldn't be printed out on the bill that these tasks are required and have been performed. I really hope this is something that can be addressed.

Whether it's helping me find the best deal, explaining my options, answering my endless questions, or making sure I'm getting quality parts at a fair price, he's always been honest, patient, and transparent. At no point have I ever felt pressured into buying something I didn't need. Instead, he's always helped me make the decision that was best for my budget and long-term goals. Abraham is the mechanic who's worked on my car, and his workmanship has been outstanding. He installed my CarPlay system flawlessly, and every job he's done has been done with care and attention to detail. It's obvious he takes pride in his work, and that gives me confidence every time I leave the shop. Carlos has always been welcoming and professional at the front desk, making every visit smooth and enjoyable. Leo has also been incredibly kind and helpful. He's always willing to lend a hand, and on one occasion he even gave me a ride to work while my car was being worked on. Those small acts of kindness say a lot about the kind of people they are. One thing I really appreciate about Joe's Tires is their honesty. I've seen reviews criticizing pricing, but from my experience, they've always been upfront with me. Different parts, brands, and repairs naturally come with different costs, and they've consistently taken the time to explain my options so I can decide what works best for me. My car is a bit of a pain in the ass to change the oil on so I can't actually go to like jiffy lube or oil changers or any place like that. I need a tech that's at least one step up from that level. Don't need to be a full-on Master mechanic or anything but it's not as simple as a regular old Honda or Toyota or whatever. You actually have to take some parts off of the car to get to the filter. Annoying, I know. It's why I don't do the changes myself. It legit takes at least 30 to 45 minutes of actual wrench time. Anyway, at some point after I got my tires replaced I noticed a slow leak in one of them. Checked the tire, no nails or screws or anything in it. I was due for an oil change anyway so I'll go back to Big O for that and have them check the tire while they're at it. Now, I know it's leaking because I've had to put air in it several times. When I pick up my car I asked him if they were able to fix the leak he says looks at the notes the tech left and says they took the wheel off and dunked it and couldn't find any leak. I was annoyed but also in a hurry so I just took my car in went. I stopped back on two other different occasions to have them fix that leak and they could never confirm that it was leaking . They didn't have any suggestions for me or anything. I ended up getting a valve core tool and replacing the valve core which slowed down the leak but didn't solve it. While I was doing that I noticed that it appeared to be leaking worse when I touched the valve stem, like I could hear the air hissing out, so I went and had that replaced (somewhere else). Now the tire is fine and I'm annoyed with Big O. A tire shop should have been able to diagnose that even if it wasn't bubbling when it was underwater. It's simply should have been the next thing that they checked. I wish I had thought to do so but I'm not a tire tech or anything. Still rounding up to three stars because generally speaking I've been happy with the service that I've received there and the guy's behind the counter are always nice and usually helpful.
