I first…read morejoined for the Boot Camp and TRX style classes but found that my 50+ year old body was not responding to that so well, even though I was loving the workouts, so I decided to swap out a workout day for a day of yoga instead. I was intimidated at first. I have some, but not a lot of experience with yoga and the idea of doing it in a heated environment made me nervous. They have 60- and 90-minute classes. I started with the 60 min Yoga Basics class which is not a beginner class necessarily, its challenging for sure, but sticks to the more rudimentary poses and movements. It's a great class for all levels and the heated room was actually very nice. I was concerned I would feel like I was suffocating but that was not at all the case. It felt great and I was totally sweaty by the end of class. It's a damn good workout and everyone is very supportive and friendly. Since I've incorporated yoga 2 days a week into my regular routine and dropped the hard work outs down to only 2 days a week I'm feeling MUCH better. Less injury, more bendy, and continued to increase my strength. Bean and the gym staff are all great at what they do. Heather and rest of the yoga instructors are wonderful as well. I'm loving UFF and the range of options they offer! The only thing that I would warn anyone about is they are not super great at providing instruction in the boot camp and TRX classes. Most of the members are fairly experienced athletes and there's a lot of assumption that everyone knows what they're doing and what weight they should be using. In a class of 20+ people they don't have a lot of time to coach an individual person. I am not shy and will almost always ask for help if I'm not sure, but not everyone feels comfortable doing that. I can definitely say that when I have asked for help, I get wonderful feedback and assistance. If you're new at this type of fitness you can schedule a one-on-one with a trainer to help you sort out a lot of things ahead of time, so you don't hurt yourself during a class. 10/10 highly recommend!

I decided to hit the gym again and I joined my local In-Shape Fitness center. I really don't get the negative vibes that are found in some of the reviews here. My experience, since joining in early June of 2026, has been life changing. On my first day, I was greeted by Edvard. He was warm-hearted, welcoming, full of positive energy, competent, and he made me feel right at home. He took his time to show me around the facility and was patient with me and my ignorance. The place is a hit. It has everything I need and more. A full-court basketball gym, multiple saunas, a jacuzzi, and plenty of space and sophisticated exercise equipment. Also, worth mentioning, it never gets overcrowded and the members are wonderful people. Thank you Edvard. In-Shape Fitness, their customers, and the Carmichael community are better with you around.

Tends to be less busy, which is nice, and the prices are very reasonable. Front desk staff are always friendly.

Alex is incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and experienced. From day one, he helped create a workout plan that actually fits my goals and lifestyle, and he's great at keeping me accountable and on track. Cardio Dance, FitCamp, Yoga, ABSolutely Bootylicious Class, Zumba, Muay Thai, and the occasional hike or fitness outing in nature. Fit Spot also offers something very cool, a smoothie bar! There are 35 different smoothie flavors and they are made with Herbalife products. The first sample is free, after that it's $7. Now what the $7 includes is a Aloe drink shot, a pre-workout tea, and post-workout smoothie. The smoothie is quite filling and is basically a meal replacement, not to mention - YUMMY! For $7 you are getting a healthy treat AND a serious workout! Friday I took the Cardio Dance class that had me sweating pretty good. Monday night I took the beginner Yoga class which was totally awesome! Tonight I did the ABSolutely Bootylicious Class....which believe me was NOT EASY! I love how each class is challenging, is a full hour, and the various instructors are really knowledgeable and patient with all levels of fitness. Hiromi Moore is the organizer of this establishment and very welcoming. What she is offering is simply this: "We are group of people who want to help the community live a healthy active lifestyle through the movement called "Shape Up Sacramento" We Love to help people change their lives by giving them a supportive environment to get healthy!" These classes are actually FREE and what is important to her is living a healthy lifestyle. I have gone to every other instructor and I have loved every class- So Naturally I really wanted to enjoy this class because the workout itself was genuinely good and challenging, and I definitely felt like I got a great Pilates workout in. Unfortunately, I found some of the instructor's commentary throughout class pretty uncomfortable and distracting. There were several comments made about not liking when men attend her classes because they grunt and sweat too much, along with jokes about being unhappy when men are in certain classes. It wasn't just one passing joke--it came up multiple times, which started to make the overall atmosphere feel unnecessarily negative. I also think it's worth remembering that exercise isn't always quiet or pretty--people sweat, breathe heavily, and sometimes make noises when they're physically exerting themselves, regardless of gender. I completely understand joking around and bringing personality into a class, and I actually think that can make a workout more fun. But I also think a gym should be a space where everyone feels comfortable walking into a class, whether they're a man, a woman, or anyone in between. I would hate for someone to try Pilates for the first time and hear comments that make them feel like they aren't wanted there. At one point, the instructor even joked about being able to imagine someone leaving a negative review about her and said that she just has to speak from her heart. I respect being yourself, but I think there's also a difference between how we joke with friends and how we speak when we're leading a class in a professional setting. The workout itself was good, which is why this was disappointing. I left feeling like I had gotten a great workout physically, but the overall vibe of the class made me feel more uncomfortable than uplifted. I think the class would have been significantly more enjoyable with less commentary about who should or shouldn't be in the room and more of that energy directed toward encouraging everyone who showed up to work out.

I had worked with Sabrina in the past and after years of struggling and as I have gotten older, I knew I had to reach out to her. I have always been active and I workout every day so that was not an issue for me. But I was still slowly and steadily gaining weight. I have tried every meal plan and/or diet you can think of spending hundreds of dollars a week on food and hours in the kitchen meal prepping, and nothing worked long term. I reached out to Sabrina in September and started working with her a week or so after my initial call. She made a few tweaks to my diet and my exercise routine, and the weight began to come off. We worked together until the middle of January. During our time working together I lost 20lbs. OVER. THE. HOLIDAYS. I am a social person, and food is always a part of that, so the holidays are especially challenging. If I can lose 20lbs over the holidays, anyone can. Since finishing my last session with Sabrina I have continued to lose weight. It doesn't come off as fast because I am not super focused on it, but that is what I love. It has felt easy to just keep doing what I am doing. The changes she made to my diet fit easily into my lifestyle. I finally feel like I am not on a diet, I have just changed the way I eat, and I am spending less money on food and spending less time on meal prepping than I was before working with her. I don't get on the scale a lot these days as I am more focused on feeling good than what the scale says, but every time I do, I am down a few more pounds.
