Easily the best meal we had during a quick trip in Austin. I asked my friend who lives here to give me her #1 spot and this was it. It's a little more upscale but still gives off casual vibes, enough that I didn't have to dress nice for. We were seated in the covered outdoor area and it was quite nice. I had no issues with service. It was hard to narrow down what to order. After seeing other tables get the cornbread (and to smell it), that was the first thing we locked down. We followed that with the ceviche. I wasn't sure about it at first, strawberry and potato chips. Don't be a skeptic like me because it was delicious and I couldn't get enough of it. Portions are not super generous so we also got a beet salad. It honestly remains the best beet salad I've had in a restaurant. What I liked about the appetizers were the balance of flavors and textures. For mains, we had the skirt steak and fried chicken (I think). Steak was cooked perfectly. Was it the best steak ever? No - but it was a steak seasoned and cooked very well. The other dish was a little more forgettable out of the meal. We ended with a citrusy-meringue panna cotta. I apologize I can't remember the details and it is not on the current menu selection. Again, a great balance of flavors and textures. They know what they're doing at Odd Duck. By far one of the best dinning experiences I've ever had. My girlfriend and I ate some much food that we're still talking about the cornbread! I can't say enough about this place. Odd duck has been on our short list for a long time and we finally stopped in! This place is Farm to table with a local & seasonal food menu. Everything is made to share so your supposed to order 4-5x things on the menu for two people. It's very vibey without being too ritzy. Food - Everything we had was unique and special in its own way. I love trying as much food as possible so I was stoked to order 5x different items! The grilled shrimp was amazing! It's crispy, different and I honestly wanted to order another one. The corn bread was about as good as it gets.The snapper was my favorite dish by far. We did have a misfire on the crawfish ravioli that was really bad. It tasted like someone accidentally dumped the entire salt shaker into the meal. I'm not sure how that got past their quality control. It would've been perfect if it wasn't seasoned so poorly. Valet - Valet on site so don't worry too much about parking. It's also free if your dining. Everything we had was excellent and we'll definitely be coming back! Odd Duck, I love you. My husband and I visited last week and had such a wonderful dining experience. We did make reservations and were seated right away on the cute porch. Every person we encountered working there was so kind. The hospitality is excellent! Each dish was an explosion of flavors and it was so fun to try different things. We began with the cornbread...I wasn't excited. UNTIL I had THIS cornbread. It was life changing. The honey, the bread, the kale butter! It was perfection. #2 ceviche- Absolutely delicious! The citrus was perfect. My only complaint was that I had to share it. #3 Blackened Redfish - WOW. It was cooked perfectly. The flavors were amazing. At this point I considered moving to Austin. Would order again and again. #4 Goat Ragu pasta- another perfect dish. #5 last but not least the wagu burger. The burger was so flavorful, & cooked perfectly. I was a visitor to Austin. Met some family there for the first time. I liked the food. It was solid. Kinda on par with a medium-expensive LA place. A little pricey by Austin standards. The venue was a bit loud for me. But that seems like every restaurant these days. Not sure why no one thinks about sound. I think they want people to eat and gtfo if I'm being honest. We ranked it as one of our top dinner experiences we have had in town and out. Everyone at odd duck should be very proud of themselves because everything was phenomenal. We got the red snapper chalupa, melon salad, Thai peach salad, cornbread, the blackened redfish and steak it was so dang delicious. We finished off with the oatmeal ice box pie, and marigold tart. My Odd Duck experience was one to remember. The service was great and the atmosphere was fantastic as well. I went with a group of people so there were about 4 of us. Odd Duck is mainly reservation based since the restaurant is very popular. I got our reservation for a Friday evening about 1.5 months in advance. VERY worth it. For drinks we shared a bottle of the Leduc-Frouin Chenin Blanc - this was an incredible choice for the table. For the food, we ran through the menu. The highlights were the beet tostada (I wanted to order another for the table - amazing!), the phenomenal red fish ceviche (this is another MUST), and the pan seared scallops. My friend is vegetarian and they had a whole vegetarian friendly menu, which was so cool! We sat at the bar and our server was delightful. Amazing 10/10 all around. Food was delicious! We ordered the Blackened Redfish, Thai salad, and cornbread. Every dish was perfect,, that blackened fish is a MUST HAVE! Service was amazing. Our waitress, Missy, was so kind and patient with all our questions. I could sense a strong connection with the whole service team, every employee was happy to help us. Odd Duck was my first dinner in Austin and it was probably the best one. First of all, they let you make a reservation for one, which was great. Some restaurants do not like solo-diners and they make it known. My waiter was absolutely fantastic and he gave me such good recommendations. He was friendly, super nice, and checked up on me often. Again, no sign of annoyance that his tip would now be less cause it was only a table of one. I had the ceviche as my starter and the green chili pork shoulder as my main, as per recommendation of my waiter. It was so good. The pork shoulder was so tender. It's actually a fairly big portion, so definitely sharable. I had leftovers to take home. For dessert, I tried a new item that they just added to the menu - a vegan brownie sundae with whiskey soaked black cherries. This was so, so good. Just the right amount of sweetness and the brownie was so decadent and moist. Do not let the fact that it is vegan stop you from ordering this dessert - get it! Hands down one of the best places I've eaten in Austin. Everything was great, from the valet (who recommended a great starter AND let us pull right up to the door to walk in), to the service (we sat at the chefs table which is actually the bar. Which was great because we got to watch the kitchen operate like a well oiled machine of culinary excellence), to the FOOD! We made a reservation for Valentine's Day and were so glad we finally got to try Odd Duck. They had a special Valentine's Day menu of some slightly more "upscale" options than normal, I believe. Instead of fried quail, they had stuffed and roasted quail. The broccoli was a special mixture of broccoli, chili crisp, eggs (and a creamy, egg-based sauce). The drinks were excellent while still being "down to earth" enough to be approachable - they had a local beer but rather than the kind that ALL restaurants have, Odd Duck had a slightly more elevated brew of theirs. The goat ragu was excellent and rich and nestled perfectly under some crunchy breadcrumbs amid a noodle dish paired with a charred root veggie. And WOW the cornbread - for only 2 people, we thought the cornbread was kind of overpriced for what it said on the menu but we are so glad we tried it! A very good helping (we thought we could even take some home but we loved it too much). We got 4 dishes and 2 drinks for around ~$140. We definitely splurged and left very happy and full. Also, everyone in the restaurant was so nice to us - Kendall in the kitchen chatted with us in between plating dishes, our waitress was great, and as soon as we got to our seats we were helped with our coats for a coat check! W O W, is all I can say. I moved to Austin a little over a year ago (from Houston) and I've been dying to get here. Finally! There is complimentary parking but we were lucky to snag some street parking nearby. Walked in on a Wednesday at 6:30 and asked to be added to the waitlist. Walked over to Gibson to wait, which is super convenient, and got a text at 7:30 that our table was ready. Yes! We first ordered the ceviche after reading all the reviews. It was good but I wasn't shouting from the mountaintops. The item that I was shouting from the mountaintops about was the kale salad. I know. You're probably thinking, "kale salad, really?" Not just yes, but hell yes. My dream would be for the chef to see this review and personally message me with the recipe so that I can copy it and serve it to all my friends. The smoked oyster chowder was really good, too. And the red fish, I've had before and didn't feel totally blown away, but it was still really good. Nothing was bad! Nothing Odd about Odd Duck, though it is oddly appealing and tasty. Being the sibling restaurant of Barley Swine, I expected nothing less of high quality and every time Odd Duck delivers. Atmosphere: The hipster mellow vibe that Austin is known for, but has a fresh vibe to it all, decorated with retro style knick nacks, but tastefully done. Gives the appeal of a more local style place while still serving high quality. Food: The menu is served from local goods so it'll often change up with the seasons, however some dishes are consistent that I have gotten a few times during my visits. The wagyu burger for example, a more refined take on what one may think of a "burger". The beef choice of course makes for a juicy and savory meal that one can expect from wagyu, complimented with great garnish and condiments. My other favorite that I believe is consistent is the Quail, granted it being quail it'll make for a small dish, but the presentation and the savory artistic presentation more than makes up for this in both experience in delicacy. Service: Always top notch, expect servers to always give you clean silverware with each dish as well as being ready to refill drinks and clean your table between meals. Really gives off the grand vibe of it all. One of top tier recommended restaurants I would easily suggest should someone want something more fine dining but not too expensive on their visit to Austin. My friend and I stopped here for happy hour because the Gibson bar we went to was closed for renovations that week. Odd Duck is more a restaurant than a bar and on the bougie side. Perfect for a date night type place. We parked down a side street because the other place was the intended destination but there is a small lot available. The bartender was attentive and seemed disappointed we only were having drinks. We had dinner plans elsewhere. However just know happy hour is only from 5-6PM. We only discovered that after the fact as he didn't let us know it or promote it. I should've picked up on that as a man sitting next to us at the bar ordered all three glasses of wine at the same time and got a couple appetizers. So next round for us was full price. An hour is the shortest happy hour I've heard of. Most places will chat it up. The house red was a Pinot noir and was really good. We just wanted something fast and uncomplicated as we were more interested in our conversation than figuring out a specialty drink. Next time I go I'll order be eating and ordering from their fabulous menu. It all looks good albeit pricy. read more

Was the food amazing? Yes, absolutely. Would I want to go back? Probably not. If I am spending a lot of money on good food, I want to do it in an aesthetically pleasing place. We were sat outside and had a terrible view (see photo). Inside might be better but it was freezing in there and we weren't given that option (even though we were the first ones through the door right when they opened with a reservation that specified indoor seating). While lots of places in Austin have great outdoor seating options, Odd Duck's outdoor seating was not good. The menu items we ordered were all delicious but very small portions and so we had to order so much food to have a full meal, making the bill very expensive. I wish they had bigger portions so I would have more than one bite of a very delicious plate (I was sharing with another person). So, small & expensive plates, bad atmosphere, and good food. Oh! I didn't think I was going to like Odd Duck. In fact, my partner had to convince me to try it out. I came in relunctant but left very happy! While we were there, we had the cornbread, pasta, and butternut salad. Each item was fabulous! The cornbread was great but tasted even better once it had completely cooled down. The pasta was DEVINE! I didn't get the chance to try their drinks but my partner loved the whiskey drinks he got. Everyone was so friendly! Our server, Robert, was so sweet and because we were sitting at the bar, we got to have conversation with some of the chefs and they were also amazing. It's not a prefix menu so you can have a casual tapas meal with friends, but it's still great quality ingredients, fantastic drinks, and staff that make you feel like they are your friends immediately. I think this is a good balance between fine dining and the local speakeasy. It also has a great patio in back that is my favorite dining spot! Highly recommend, and not just for special occasions! This place was good but not as amazing as I hoped it would be. The cocktails seemed pricey but they had an extensive beer menu and was glad I went that direction. The menu is small and changes seasonally and perhaps this menu just wasn't for me. We got the cornbread, redfish, and pork loin. The cornbread and fish were good but nothing memorable. The pork loin had interesting flavors and fresh ingredients that I think showed the potential of this place. The parking lot is valet only but there's street parking around the corner. The restaurant itself has good vibes and a nice space. Service was great and our waitress helped us navigate the menu which I always like. I was really excited when I made the reservation but overall I felt underwhelmed. But I think I'll come back when there's a more appealing menu for me and try it again! read more

Recently had a fantastic dinner at Odd Duck! I love a good shareable and they deliver on delicious, shareable options. I went with a group of five and we enjoyed the carnitas (2 orders), redfish (2 orders), mushroom pasta (2 orders), butternut salad (1 order), cornbread (1 order), wagyu burger (2 orders), sourdough ice cream (2 orders), chocolate masa icebox cake (1 order). The redfish, pasta, carnitas, and ice cream were group favorites, but honestly all the dishes were fabulous. The vibe is chill yet sophisticated, striking a balance between casual and upscale. I will say it was pretty noisy. We sat on the patio and still felt the need to raise our voices to have conversation. Parking's a bit tricky, but they've got valet and there's always the Highball/Alamo Drafthouse parking garages across the street. (Or maybe you'll get lucky and find street parking. Me, not so much.) The dinner made the parking and noise all worth it though. From the food to the service and cocktails, Odd Duck is definitely one for the must-try list! read more

I made reservations for a Thursday evening and had an AMAZING experience. First of all, reservations are pretty easy to book compared to some other places that require planning month(s) in advance. The service here is excellent with complimentary valet parking and enthusiastic waiters and servers who patiently explain each dish and answered all my questions. The food is some of the best I've ever had in Austin. I loved the sauce on the corn ribs and quail. Definitely don't underestimate the corn bread. Barley Swine little brother restaurant at about half the price with similar amazing dishes! Didn't realize Odd Duck is from the same owners as Barley Swine which is a more upscale restaurant. Everything is seasonal so you can expect an rotating menu per season. We went in summer and the menu was filled with fresh and sweet peaches. We ordered the ceviche and cornbread as starters. Our main dishes were the scallops and wagyu top cap. Lastly, finished off with the peach cobbler for dessert. Everything was delicious and had a punches of flavor with fresh ingredients. The only disappointment is the wagyu sirloin cap didn't have a fat cap which I was expecting. And the wagyu is more so American wagyu not the Japanese style wagyu, so the fat cap would have been nice to have. Someone complained about my earlier review. So I'm re-writing it after reflecting on our experience. Their service was horrible. Like 0 stars. They sat us 15 minutes past our reservation time. The valet drove our car aggressively. And after parking he proceeded to lean on our car while speaking with other patrons. Thye forgot one of our dishes and gave another one of our dishes to the table next to us (who sat there bewildered before digging in). We had to sit there for almost 30 minutes while they re-made the missing dish. Sat there thirsty for who knows how long... I could go on. Their service made this a horrible experience. read more

Absolutely loved this spot (but I'm always a fan of local, conscientious sourcing and good ingredients). Awesome happy hour 5-6pm (even on Sundays) that includes their delicious draft palomas and 25% off bottles of wine under $100. We definitely took advantage of both. The food is great -- and super friendly for restrictions such as gluten-intolerance. They brought me a whole separate gluten-free menu (just a slight variation on the main one, so it didn't feel restrictive, but rather very thoughtful). Also the only place I've seen in years that made their redfish ceviche to order and could make it without cilantro for me -- so grateful for their efforts! It was delicious, as were the scallops. The wagyu top sirloin had great flavor, was perfectly cooked, and came with an amazing sauce -- but it WAS a little chewy (sirloin is lean, which I appreciate, but it's hard to get tender I think). Glad I came here with my hubby after my meeting. I got to try the teacher's pet cocktail. It was good. I was hoping for something sweeter since I just had some churros before I came. Then I had the Thai salad with pork belly I like the fusion of this esp when pork belly was fried. I also ordered the corn bread and was pleasantly surprised when the bread was moist and buttery and not dry and crumbly. The fried squash was also good with the green goddess sauce. I feel that it's hard to mess up fried with veg with green goddess. My husband really liked his quail so thumbs up.
