First impression, it was busy but Chris at the front helped us get a table. While we waiting Chris informed us to the library next door which was lovely and we were able to get a quick coffee & cookie from there . When it was our time to come back to the restaurant we were seated next to the big window, which provided a lot of light. The restaurant is big and has a farm house feeling. Oddfellows is a cute brunch place located in Capitol Hill! They were luckily open on the 4th of July - which means they were super busy. We were told it would be a 1 hr - 1.5 hr wait but got a text within 30 minutes. The wait for food was definitely a long longer. Although the service was good, the portion sizes were pretty small for the prices. I would have wished there was a bit more food. We got the baked egg and brioche French toast with fruit (instead of maple syrup). The French toast was definitely the star! The baked egg was good - but my boyfriend thought it was too much cheese. I also was disappointed at how little bread they gave with the egg. Rachel's ginger beer was a good add to the meal. Our friend also got the blue lemonade which was DELICIOUS! Food: The drinks and food were all excellent! We went for brunch which is served until 3pm or 4pm I believe. We had the biscuits and gravy and the eggs and biscuits with avocado for me (vegetarian). We also got the fries with garlic aioli and a cup of the (vegetarian) gazpacho. Lots of veggie options but only a few vegan ones (you could probably ask them to leave cheese or eggs off some things though). The drinks were also great! I had a mimosa and then a matcha martini while waiting and they were both good enough that I'd come back just for the drinks in the evening. Service: Servers were great! The busers made sure water glasses are always full. They also checked in quite a bit despite how busy they were and didn't rush or hurry us. The food did take some more time to come out than I expected, but it was worth the wait! Perhaps be mindful to allow extra time if you have a scheduled thing after. Ambiance: it was very cute and is in the beautiful historic Oddfellow's building. That said, outside in front is nice but uncovered from sun or weather, and also really close to the sidewalk traffic. Inside is nice, but some tables are pretty close and it's very loud in there. I would recommend the back patio if you can swing it. Bathrooms are down the hall and require a code from the servers. They are not climate controlled if that's important to you. Tip: We would definitely go back, but it's very popular even after noon on weekends, so get on the waitlist and expect it take about 30-60 min depending on how busy they are. I struggled to write this review. It was a mixed bag for me. But I'd like to give it a second chance to see if this experience was an anomaly. The space is really nice. High ceilings, indoor, back room, and outdoor seating. It's an old historic building but also feels updated and nice. The windows were open and the temp was good. I loved that they had the Sunday Dinner option: $50 for two entrees from a preselected list, drinks, and a dessert. We liked the options and chose two. Our server was polite and friendly. Given the space of the restaurant it didn't look very busy where we were but I could tell they were pretty busy with the other areas combined. So the long wait times weren't terribly unexpected. It took a while to get our drinks. Then it took a long time to get our food. Gauging from those around us, ours took longer than others. My lasagna was good but a tad cooler than expected on the outside. My dining partner was brought out the wrong entry (chicken vs burger). They were apologetic and brought out his burger soon thereafter. But it wasn't hot and either were the fries. We didn't complain because at that point we were just hungry. But we joked that we wanted to ask them to put it in the microwave. If I had to guess, our food was probably ready and sat out for a bit before coming to us. I was impressed by the low cost and the flavor was good. But cold food isn't good and my dining partner said he wouldn't go back. We'd initially came on a Sunday, and it was incredibly busy, but the following day we got a table right away. The waitress was quite attentive, and was able to get some banana bread from the bakery to our check. Making it easy for us! My girlfriend appreciated that. As far as the food - the banana bread was good, by the way, the texture was perfect, not too crumbly with the perfect chew. It was a little sweet for us, but we got the taste across well. Where the taste didn't come across well was with our salmon eggs Benedict. The salmon in particular was missing flavor, and sour bread not consistent on flavor as well. The salad was tasty though. This place was the biggest swing and miss ever. We always walked by it thinking it looked amazing, so tonight we finally checked it out. We get seated and it takes a second for the server to get to us; okay. We order red wine, an espresso martini, the cod piccata, and the steak frites. The drinks came out quickly. The espresso martini was good; the wine tasted good, but was served way too warm. Our food gets to us, and it's the smallest portion ever. The cod was $28, was 3oz, and came with three pieces of broccoli and potato. The steak had to have been 2.5-3oz for $19, and it was well done when I had ordered it medium rare. The server didn't come back to check in on us after giving us our food until after my partner had finished his cod. When he did, I told him that my steak was over-cooked. "What temperature did you order?" he asks, and I reply with "Medium rare." "What do you feel it is?" he follows with, and I, gesturing clearly at a steak that is fully brown throughout, say, "Well-done." He doesn't offer me a replacement, but instead asks what I want to do about it, to which I ask for a replacement. He asks how I want it this time, and I ask for it "Rare." It then takes forever for the replacement to get out to me, even though the restaurant is all but empty on a Sunday evening--what should have been a telling sign. When it does come, it comes as a sous vide medium, a ghostly pale pink-white, but I take what I can get. This steak was also closer to 3oz, where the first was closer to 2.5oz, and came with both ketchup and aioli, where the first only came with aioli, pointing to obvious quality control issues. Afterwards, we read reports online about serious health inspection issues that I'll let you search for yourself. We will not be back, and we will be adamant in our discouragement if anyone we know is thinking about going, as well. There are plenty of better options where you don't have to deal with this behavior. read more

Brunch is honestly one of my favorite meals. I think I love it so much because I hardly ever wake up in time to enjoy it LOL. Anyways we went @oddfellowscafe and I got their Shakshuka and Fries. I mainly got the fries because I really like their garlic aioli sauce. The shakshuka was great although I wish it came with a little more kick. They do have their own hot sauce on the table so you can more of you'd like. I also got a Bloody Mary and my boyfriend got the expresso martini. I didn't taste any tea leaf , but not sure if it was supposed to but I'm a sucker for any kind of banana bread I also ordered a cappuccino, which hit the spot. I usually don't like coffee I get at restaurants but this one was good, the only critique I would give is that it wasn't served with a pretty design. My friend and I visited during brunch so we only had their morning menu. FOOD: I ordered the shakshuka but didn't get to try my friends' dish so I'll just talk about the dish I ordered. I've made shakshuka before and I can say that this dish was packed with flavors and spices which I loved. It's well made and a safe choice to get if you're not sure what to get from the menu. I was surprisingly quite full from it and even had leftovers to take home. I do think that the menu is priced a bit higher but I think for a popular brunch place it makes sense. I'd come here again!
