Service is great, with an attentive waitress. However, this is the only real highlight. And that's not saying much since I visited when students were away for the summer. The theme is fun, but strained. They have Paris-style love locks, American music with French lyrics, little french flags, and wall hangings in French. I even spotted a print that was also used by HiWay Pizza. It does seem a bit forced since they didn't update the seating after taking over from Baby's. As such, those old booths with duct-tape repaired cushions are still there. They really need to strip out the old seating and do an update. All they did was add some blue paint to the existing red and white theme in terms of actual renovation. The rest are just different decorations. And if that wasn't awkward enough, they have number locks on the bathroom doors. This isn't a city with a vagrant problem, it's Happy Valley. Oeuf Bouef et Bacon seems to be just a restaurant owner flip instead of a genuine renovation. Food is somewhat decent, but nothing special. Their waffle is good. It's not much of a French item, so I opted for butter and syrup instead of the jam. They give you one packet of syrup and two packs of butter, which is not enough. But packets? Really? I guess the one thing they inherited from Baby's is the diner mentality? Side of bacon was good, but they only give you two strips. I also tried the lemon glaze crullers, which left me really disappointed. They had that bad fried taste; perhaps their oil was not hot enough and/or hasn't been changed in a while? The cruller batter wasn't even good anyways, since it lacked that light & fluffy consistency. No cruller egg taste either. These might as well just be sold as fried dough. Yuck. I really wanted this place to have better food. I would have wanted to try more on their menu, including coeur de palmier (typoed as couer on the menu), croissants, and their french onion soup. But my first experience will probably be my last. I'd much rather enjoy a breakfast at the Waffle Shop (that's getting more and more expensive), than to eat here again. Ultimately I think the most painful nail in the coffin of this restaurant is its menu. It lacks innovation. I enjoyed my trip to France years ago, especially the small towns and country side since Paris is too much of a tourist trap. And I really miss the food. I'm no expert on the French cuisine, but I did get to try it for a couple weeks. So I was a little perplexed by the odd French menu choices mixed in with regular American items. For example, a typical French breakfast is rather light: croissant or pain au chocolat with tea or a cafe au lait. French toast isn't really "French". As for their lunch options, they don't reflect a typical French lunch. If it was more authentic, we'd see a multi-course meal instead of single entrees. I'm not expecting Michelin star restaurants in State College, but if a joint advertises itself as French, I'd expect it to give us a little taste of traditional French cuisine. But nah, this is some sort of weird fusion without saying it's fusion. If you can find a favorite here, then at least their prices are good. The formers Baby's (we haven't been to state college in a while) has transformed to a French version of Baby's. Still diner-esque . We loved the sweet bread basket for the table. The burger was delicious and the croque mosieuer was also very good. We had our two younger kids split an egg plate and it was so nice that they plated everything separately for us already. I got the the fondue. It's fun bc it comes with a candle but it's really just cheese and bread. It was good but I could would have preferred some meat. My mom and I were visiting my sister and her husband who both work in State College and they took us to his gem of a restaurant. We ordered the strawberry and chocolate milkshakes, French toast, French onion soup, callete fondant (braised beef patty melt), cassoulet, and country omelet. I ordered the cassoulet and tried a little bit from every one else's dish. The French fries were delicious. They seem to be seasoned with a large flakes of salt that made them delicious. The salt could be fluer de sel or Diamond Crystal kosher salt. The callete fondant is composed of delicious braised beef with melted brie. The country omelet was excellently prepared. The French toast was divine. I love the light touch of orange. My meal consisted of the French onion soup and the cassoulet. The broth and onions were immaculate. Perfect for a snowy day. The broth was rich and savory and the onions slightly sweet. The Gruyere cheese was perfectly melted. Very few things beat a spoonful of broth, onions, crouton, and melted cheese. My main meal was the cassoulet. It was my first time having cassoulet and I was pleased with the dish. It reminded me of gumbo. Nothing to make me wanna come back. I found it very skimpy left hungry and ended up getting a bagel down the road . Service was slow...missed that little extra coffee pour which would've been nice. It says eggs and hash and it was not homemade hash. It was more of a pot-roast stew which was extremely a skimpy portion. The tiny slice of French bread came with no butter or jam. PS...yeah yeah The owner lashed out with a reply, that was so indignant and rude. I can see there's a history of this as other customers of the past pointed out. Reviews are made to help improve the business. Yes, there are some that are out of context or incorrect, but as a business owner it's bad marketing to attack everyone because they share their opinion. The ambiance is 1950s diner. For those who remember the old Baby's, it's that spot. The jukeboxes at the tables are all gone now and likely have been for some time, even before Baby's closed. But most of the atmosphere is still that and now imbued with French cafe. The name is cute, too. "Eggs, beef, and bacon". Sounds like a winner for Sunday breakfast/brunch, non? Alas, we'll never know. We waited outside in the line for about 15-20 minutes. Went in to check on counter seating options - that's also a wait to be seated item. Let them know there were 2, (versus the bigger groups of 6 or so) that wouldn't mind the counter and that we were outside in line. NO COMMUNICATION is the biggest beef with the service. OK that you are busy and/or understaffed. But basic hosting isn't hard. I've done it before also. No list. No asking how many people or taking names. No information on wait times. No apologies for the wait. No greeting. Just a very slow paced clearing of tables and not using remotely close to the seating capacity of the restaurant. No thanks. Take business elsewhere just as others did this morning. A shame but if you can't get that basic thing right to bring people (aka money) into your place you will not succeed. The croissants however are tiny for American customers, so don't order them as a side (they come with the egg and hash meals). Service is ok, but it always understaffed. State College does not appear to have a ton of great brunch spots, especially on a Monday, so I was thrilled to find Oeuf Bouef et Bacon. This French diner offered traditional as well as French menu items. All of the signage is in French and the diner has an old 50's American diner vibe. To start, we shared the Sticky Bun. It was warm and amazing with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar topping and pecans. I then enjoyed the Croc Madame. It was really tasty! It came with fries that were very tasty! The restaurant is reasonably priced and the food was enjoyable. The service was fantastic! I wouldn't hesitate to stop by again, on my next trip to State College. read more

I ordered The Provençal sandwich which included eggplants, peppers, and some kind of sauce with bland, under-seasoned fries. While the bread itself was decent, the sandwich was dripping in oil that I had to pay it down with napkins. The fries had no flavor as if it was just fried potato. My friend got the Florentine omelet. She asked for spinach and received bacon/ham and a slap of American cheese on top instead. It came with hash browns and a dry croissant. We were very impressed with the menu. We tried the beef bourguignon, which was incredible. Probably the most flavorful thing I've eaten in state college. There were so many other items we want to try like the short rib, Creme brûlée, milkshakes, French onion soup, lobster bisque, and French dip, so we will definitely be back. After months and months of hearing chatter about this place, mom and I finally made it. Thinking it would be less busy on a Monday afternoon was silly, we waited about 20 minutes, but we were offered a menu which left us ready to order as soon as we were shown to our seats. There was one hostess/server/runner, and every now and then, the chef would run plates out to tables also. When this place gets fully staffed, I imagine they'll be a mighty force! We tried the Chef Special, which was Chicken and Waffles with syrup on the side. The portion was HUGE, so we got two plates and split it because we also wanted to try the freshly made pastries, which were SO GOOD. The chicken was seasoned very well, it was a leg, thigh, and split breast, so mom and i each got a piece of white meat, dark meat, and half a waffle. But the stars of the meal were the lemon glazed cruellers and the croissants with jam on the side. I would go back just for those with a cup of coffee! When you go, prepare for a wait, but ask for a menu so you can decide what to try! Parking was tricky. We found a spot on the street with the old-fashioned quarter meters. I am usually not one to write reviews but this place was excellent and absolutely deserves it. Honestly in my opinion, a lot of the food downtown can be subpar with outrageous pricing, but not Oeuf Bouef et Bacon! It truly stands out in my experiences with other restaurants here. I had a sandwich that was unlike anything I've had before, my partner had a standard egg, sausage, and hashbrown breakfast that was great as well. I had a blueberry Bellini that was almost as delicious as the root beer float with the vegan ice cream that we shared. Which btw my lactose intolerant/vegan folks know how hard it is to find good vegan ice cream so that was a pleasant surprise! My partner had a delicious fresh coffee that I dipped my mini chocolate croissant in. The true stars of the show were the fresh lemon cruellers that we ended up taking to go, truly indulgent with the perfect sweetness and zing of the lemon glaze! Our waitress was so sweet and patient with us (we had never been here before so we took awhile to decide because everything sounded so good), she checked up on us many times and was attentive to my partner's coffee refills. Unfortunately, I do not remember her name, I wish I did so I could give her a shoutout! The vibe in there is so cute as well, I loved the red, white, and silver color scheme and it just really reminded me of the diners my family and I frequently visited when I was a kid in NJ, very nostalgic. Some friends brought me to this place after a night out, walking in looked very put together and gave a great diner vibe. However, they struggled to seat us at an unattended bar and the chef seemed to have an attitude throwing the menus near us and one landing on the floor. The menus were very fancy and well worded but the food was the struggle of the day as the pancakes were cold and seemed to upset 3 of our stomachs, and the lebron sand-which was soggy and the hash browns were very solid, as the eggs were severely under par, and the bacon consistency was off, the waitress however was a very nice attentive hostess. It was 11:30ish so there were many free tables. They sat us quickly, then proceeded to ignore us while they refilled salt shakers and cleaned the bartop. I had been looking to visiting for some time, so was really happy when they were open today. This restaurant is definitely worth trying - the food was generally good and they have excellent coffee. The french-themed menu is enticing and I was thrilled to see Croque Monsieur and Madame on the menu, along with Crepe Suzette and Creme Brulee. To be honest, I do think the menu is over-priced. $7 for what amounts to less than 2 full cups of coffee and $3 for a MINI-croissant. Because they are in a location that is dependent upon student patronage to survive, I am concerned about the sustainability of the pricing. Non-students will visit as well, of course, but will it be enough business to keep them open? And, have to say, one of the things I was most looking forward to was an honest to god authentic french croissant. The mini croissant was far from what I had hoped. It was not soft inside and tasted downright stale. Some work needs to be put into the croissant, and I would hope that ordering a full size croissant would become an option. I am hoping that this place will get better with time, and I also appreciate that they may be suffering some staffing issues. I want them to be able to keep the doors open. read more

What a sad event. When walking in you cannot help but laugh at the American diner ambiance. Nothing has been updated or changed since the last venue. If your going to try to bring classic country French cuisine into the area at least change the décor! Perhaps putting "Bacon" instead of following the French name with the masculine "Lardon" is giving them justification to slip on the atmosphere and menu. It was impossible to find when they were open for buisness. Its supposed to serve breakfast, but beware they are not consistent in hours. The food was mediocre at best. Pre-frozen small croissants were soggy and old. The poached eggs had way to much vinegar in the water. When I smell fresh stocks cooking I would have expected better sauces. The sauces were cloudy, tasteless and borderline old. I was VERY disappointed that the waiter had no idea how to pronounce things, and thought it was silly to even try.
