I was really looking forward to finally checking this place out after trying a sample at a Yelp event a few months back. The bite I had then was delicious, and I was excited to get the full experience. Unfortunately, my visit left me pretty unsatisfied. I ordered a bagel and lox to eat "for here," but it was packaged to-go and handed to me without any explanation. It also took longer than expected to come out, and when I finally opened it, the bagel was soggy, like it had been sitting around for a bit before being brought out. The texture was way off, and the whole thing just felt underwhelming, especially considering the price. Honestly, it cost more than a similar bagel I recently had in New York, and that one was far better. I also picked up a half dozen assorted bagels to take home, along with three schmears: garlic chive and black pepper, miso scallion, and vanilla fig and cracked pepper. The bagels themselves were just okay, not particularly memorable. But the schmears were a different story--the garlic chive and black pepper was the clear standout for me. It was flavorful and balanced, and I'd honestly go back just to grab a container of that. The miso scallion was interesting, wasn't great on the bagel but I thought it would make an amazing pasta sauce and it was great in that! The vanilla fig and cracked pepper was unique, but I thought it could have been sweeter. Some fresh sweet berries on top would be delicious(that's how it was served at the previous Yelp event). Overall, while there were some highlights (mainly the garlic chive schmear), the experience just didn't live up to the excitement I had going in. I've been waiting for this since 2008 y'all! As an East coaster I am SO STOKED that we have REAL NY style bagels in the Biggest Little City, and it's all thanks to Corey and Liz, the wonderful couple behind this bagel shop! What sets them apart? Easy. These bagels are made the traditional way, hand rolled, boiled, topped and then baked, which makes them bagels, and not bread. They have a perfectly chewy exterior (crisps nicely in the toaster if you like it that way) and a light and airy interior, which is how a bagel should be. PRO-TIP: Bagels freeze great! Snag a dozen and stock the freezer! I like to enjoy one the first and second day after I buy them, and then freeze the rest so I can have one whenever I want. PRO-TIP 2: Bagel pros will tell you not to forget to save all the seeds and seasoning at the bottom of the bag so you can sprinkle it on your cream cheese! But the fun doesn't stop there. Off Center lives up to its name, offering traditional bagel flavors (everything, sesame, etc.) as well as some that are super unique, like Zaatar, my personal favorite, and "oops. all the seeds". They do the same with their cream cheeses too! I haven't had it yet, but the miso charred scallion is calling my name, and they also offer sweet flavors like vanilla fig and strawberry balsamic, which are becoming beloved by the community. I love walking in and seeing the case lined up with the days bake. It's beautiful to behold, each one is slightly different from the next in shape and color (hello handmade) and as long as there's not a line you can select the exact bagels that speak to you! When you hear about a 5-star bagel spot less than 5 minutes away from your house, you've got to come try it asap! I had no idea this place was here. It's located inside of Lillo Eatery near Mayberry, another place I've never been. I came here to order takeout and the server was sweet, she gave me some helpful recommendations. I was surprised to see such a limited selection of bagel flavors (no jalapeno cheddar, Asiago, blueberry, cinnamon raisin, etc) but figured they must know how to perfect the small amount of flavors they do serve. My husband and I both got breakfast sandwiches on garlic rosemary bagels. They were incredible! The bagels themselves taste more doughy and fluffy than your average bagel, they tasted noticeably better than most. The combination of flavors on the sandwich with the chipotle mayo worked really well together. I got a latte with our sandwiches and the total was $28, not too bad and totally worth it for the quality of the food. The coffee was average but that's not the main thing we were coming here for, so the review won't focus on that. I considered the breakfast burrito which I heard is massive, but still couldn't bring myself to spend $18 on a burrito. I'll plan to try the bagel and lox next time! Love the creativity and variety of flavors! I can only hope they continue to experiment and evolve the bagel options. Came into lilo eatery on a Sunday morning, there was no line and the staff was helpful with recommendations. I ended up ordering the za'atar spiced bagel, a distinctly middle eastern twist with the smoky, zesty, herbally and nutty flavor! It paired really well with the chive cream cheese. I enjoyed that the bagel was fluffy on the inside, it needed just a touch more crispness and firmness on the outside though, but still a really delicious bagel. I'm from nyc so I have been craving and missing bagels dearly. I appreciate how close off center bagels is to recreating the real deal!! The miso scallion cream cheese was such an interesting flavor, a little more mellow and slightly funky had a mildly sweet flavor to it that was super interesting. At $5 with cream cheese you can't really beat the value of the bagels! I also tried their buckwheat coffee cake which was unbelievably yummy, perfect coffee cake texture and a healthier grain option I am so here for it! read more

Off Center Bagels is a part of Lil Lo on McCarran and Plumb. My husband is a huge bagel fan, me...not so much, and I wanted to give him a special treat. The location is odd but well worth fighting McCarran traffic. This place is amazing! From the service at the counter, the fantastic back courtyard and the delicious bagels and coffee. I had originally ordered the Shakshouka; however, the Chef felt he needed more time to prepare it fresh which I found refreshing. We ordered a sesame bagel with a smear and a breakfast bagel sandwich. The food was so fresh: bagels were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, cream cheese was light and creamy, eggs, cheese, bacon, everything tasted exceptional. These are the best bagels in town. crisp exterior with chewy soft interiors. Best enjoyed within a day of being baked, I ended up buying 3 and the quality on the 1st day is stellar, the 2nd day is still decent but I would take Michael T's advise and freeze if they will be consumed any later than that. They offer some interesting cream cheese flavors like Miso charred onion and unique bagel flavors like Zaatar spice and what I was told was a "pinenut and dried fig" bagel but it seemed like it was cornmeal and a couple raisins, definitely not figs. I decided to add my comments on the bagels I bought. I purchased a cinnamon raisin and an everything bagel. Both were tasty but both were burnt. The everything bagel was difficult to bite into because it was over cooked. Being from NYC I am very critical of how bagels are done. The two I bought bear no resemblance to NY bagels. Unfortunately the best bagels in Reno could be had at Lox, Stock and Bagels that closed not long after it opened. Recently a friend told us about Off Center bagel and I admit I was not expecting much but OMG they are so good and authentic!! Can't say how excited we are and no longer have to go to NY or even LA to get good bagels. They have a good crispy outer texture and soft and chewy interior as they should. We had a lovely Sunday morning breakfast at Off Center Bagels. It used to be a Poke Bowl place and I think is managed by the same owners. I had an avocado toast on an everything bagel and it was delicious. My wife had a breakfast bagel sandwich and she enjoyed hers as well. We have since purchased bagels for take-home and they have some very interesting flavored bagels. Since it is five minutes from our home, we will be definitely dining in or getting bagels for take home more often. I recommend you give them a try. read more
