Fingers crossed, folks. I bought a loaf of "sourdough" yesterday because I was in the area and saw the bakery. I LOVE sourdough bread. I always warm it in a wet towel in the oven after slicing. When I sliced this loaf, it looked and cut NOTHING like sourdough. It did not have ANY nooks and crannys, nor the crispy, bubbly looking exterior that is a signature look of sourdough. The loaf had NO "crust factor". This crumbled all over the cutting board, which should NOT happen with sourdough. I was very excited, before I took it out of it's bag, but now I am HIGHLY skeptical. I hope I'm wrong on all counts, so stand by for a follow up. Update Ok, update...to be fair, the bread was "ok", but DEFINITELY NOT SOURDOUGH! Maybe a wheat bread or something? Not horrible, but NOT sourdough. After reading prior reviews, I fully expect the owner to berate me and call me an idiot and tell me I didn't order sourdough. That's ok. Maybe just better training for your staff as to what product is what. read more

Always on the lookout for a cute coffee spot, and House of Bread definitely hits the mark. There's a ton of variety between the various pastries, sandwiches, and deserts--and a good selection of coffee. Their iced coffee is very good, and my grinder sandwich tasted great. All of the veggies and meat were so fresh tasting. Super friendly staff, and a nice cute location. Definitely going to be one of my go-to's when I'm in town to catch up with friends. read more

Stopped in mid afternoon to pick up a gift card and decided to purchase a couple things breakfast the next day. I realized the selection would not be great, but I did expect it to at least be fresh. I picked up a tin of the mini cinnamon rolls and a cinnamon twist. I honestly could've broken a tooth trying to bite off a piece of the cinnamon twist and even the microwave didn't soften up the cinnamon rolls. Very disappointing visit because I have visited before and their sandwiches were great, their breads were fabulous, and their pastries were fresh. Service is friendly and no issues there. They have a nice area where you can sit inside and seating outside too. Plenty of parking in the front as well. I try to shop local businesses whenever I can, but sadly, I may have to cross this one off my list. read more

Decided to place a holiday order and followed the instructions by placing my order by the deadline. I went to pick up and my order wasn't received and prepared. The staff member grabbed the items and put it together. Disappointed because we had ordered the holiday cinnamon roll special and they were out and gave me a frozen option instead. Another staff member made a comment questioning if I had placed my order in time which didn't make me feel great. No apology or an offer for a pastry or something else as an apology., The dinner rolls were great but just not sure the customer service matched the food quality. read more

Came in on Saturday morning around 11:30 for their 25 yr anniversary and the event helping the Northern Nevada Child Cancer Foundation. Unfortunate for me they were all out of cinnamon rolls by the time I arrived BUT fortunate for them and the foundation they had an amazing turn out. Since I was there, I grabbed a chocolate croissant (super yummy), and a few of their seasonal breads because they are amazing. Glad they had a successful even. read more

House of Bread, what a spectacular name for a shop! I knew we'd have to drop in sometime, but after we had delicious samples from them at a recent Yelp event, we moved it up on our tasting list. Breakfast was a no-brainer: the ham and cheese with jalapeno roll and a cinnamon roll. The ham roll was particularly delicious--salty, spicy, and cheesy--with just the right texture of pastry to balance it out. We also tried a really good chocolate dipped macaroon and took home a pumpkin chocolate loaf. We were surprised to see such a broad range of foods on the menu and on display in the case (from pastries to quiche), so....we decided to come back for lunch! Husband had a tasty chicken provolone sandwich, and I ordered the taste of Provence toast. I was a couple bites in on mine when I realized there wasn't any boiled egg (which is why I ordered the dish). We let someone know, and the above-and-beyond response was amazing. She apologized and said that the menu needed a correction. They no longer served boiled eggs in their dishes, and to make it right, she offered a substitution and offered to take the dish off our bill. I said a cookie would be fine, but she not only gave me two cookies, she did adjust the bill. Her very generous correction, along with her informative and friendly way of dealing with the issue, was something you don't encounter very often. The other two ladies who helped us that day were also so helpful and kind. Definitely a reflection on the owner and her hiring skills. Seating inside and out was surprisingly plentiful and comfortable. We're looking forward to our next visit to this local woman-owned shop! read more

These baked goods are delicious. Made fresh daily! This place has a store front and a restaurant side for seating. They sell all kinds of items including breakfast and lunch items like sandwiches. I saw they had a clearance section too. We got cinnamon rolls and apple butter. There is plenty of parking on site available. It's located inside a huge shopping center. Having recently traveled back home from France, we had the hankering for some fresh baked goods. We've tried house of bread before and we're very pleased with their products so we returned to try new things. Unfortunately, they were out of baguettes at 1.5 hrs past opening, so I opted for a traditional croissant and coffee. I also had half of a Spicy HOB breakfast sandwich. Everything was delightful, even the house coffee was good. The croissants were served on actual dishes, which I appreciate. And we didn't have to switch lines to order everything as we also took home a loaf of country french bread...more to come on that later. They have so many options, and the line never stopped. This review is based on our sandwich experience, despite the grouchy lady behind the counter who seemed preoccupied and even argued with me about the special 1/2 sandwich option on their menu. I had to show her the menu so she could read it before proceeding with my order. Now, on to the food. The reason for 2 stars instead of 1 is because the side salad and sandwich toppings were fresh and tasted good. However, the bread was terrible for a sandwich--thick and dense. I had to remove half of the bread to make it palatable. My wife's bread crust was so hard she couldn't eat it. We'll stick to Schatt's for bread and Mix Bakeshop for cookies and pastries. With so many other sandwich options in Reno, there's no reason for us to return. read more

Bread... glorious bread! I've lived in Reno for quite a while (25 years) and never knew this place existed. Or maybe I drove past it a thousand times and never saw the glory--loaves of specialty breads, trays of sweets, and savory yumminess. Today was my day. I snatched up a ham & cheddar stuffed croissant , and a Cinnamon & Sugar Knot thingy. I ate dessert first. There is so much cinnamon and sugar and icing and fresh twisted dough. I love pretty much anything from House of Bread. I frequently buy mini loaves such as banana walnut, apple pecan, zucchini, and carrot. All are excellent. I was REALLY looking forward to their plain, thin, crispy, butter cookies that they only make at Christmas. I was disappointed to find that they replaced their amazing butter cookies with soft sugar cookies with sprinkles. I tried the new cookies, but much preferred the old ones. One of the best breakfast/bread shops in the area. I was staying in Reno for a week and was right next to the outdoor mall where this is located. I tried it on my first morning and was immediately hooked! Their muffins and turnovers are so delicious and they change them up daily. I got a loaf of their jalapeño Jack cheese bread and it was amazing! All of the bread is freshly baked the night before. I would see bakers in there late at night prepping all the dough! The employees were wonderful as well and were very knowledgeable about all their breads. They also have a cute little outdoor seating section. read more

I can't believe this was my first time coming here! House of Bread is located in a strip mall, so there's plenty of parking available. They have a few patio tables and lots of indoor seating. I came mid week around 11:30am and they were packed with teenagers on their lunch break from the nearby high school. Luckily, most of them got pastries instead of food that needed to be cooked, and everyone left rather quickly since they were on a short break. They have a huge menu of pastries, breads, breakfast items, and lunch items. I went with a breakfast sandwich and a vanilla latte. I got the spicy hob sandwich which came with eggs, bacon, pepper jack, jalapeño, and red pepper mayo on your choice of bread. It was such a great combination of flavors! Just the right amount of spice and a nice change from your typical breakfast sandwich. The coffee tasted pretty standard and hit the spot for my coffee craving. It was around $20 for the sandwich + coffee which isn't too bad since the sandwich was large and very filling. The food came out quickly despite how busy they were which I was impressed by. Our birthday celebration was memorable thanks to the exceptional service, fantastic food, and pleasant ambiance. My father and all our guests had a wonderful time. I used to come here frequently years back and recently returned because their breads make excellent Christmas gifts. I really missed this place but it's a bit of a drive coming from the North Valleys, main reason why I stopped coming. I must say that their classic pumpkin bread is still the bomb and I recently gifted a friend with their Cranberry Orange bread and I got a state of it. OMG! I'm hooked and craving for it. I went back to order it and I was told that it's only seasonal and they only make it from November through Christmas. So bummed, now I have to wait until next year to get it. But, it was really that good. You can taste the hint of orange in it and the cranberry bits of course made it even more awesome (forgot to take a picture). Not that their classic pumpkin bread tastes less, it's just as good. Today I ended up getting their Apple Pecan bread for the first time and it was tasty. Only thing is, it tastes similar to the pumpkin bread with all the spices they used with the addition of the Pecans and somehow overpowered the Apple in the bread. They do have all sorts of bread, another popular one is the Choco Pumkin, which is Pumkin bread with chocolate chips, Zucchini, Apple Cinnamon Swirl and their Stolen bread, with cranberries, raisins and other ingredients (which I used to gift friends). As for the place itself, I can't remember if they have always had the other side as the cafe part , but this time around I noticed it. I remember they had outdoor seating then and they still do now. I missed this place and I sure am going back to buying their breads for holiday gifts. And looking forward to the holidays to order their Orange Cranberry Bread again. read more

We get most of our bread here! So delicious. The lemon bars and scone are amazing. My Husband goes almost everyday for coffee and a scone.

I've been going here for 4 years and I'm done, prices are way too high, and customer service is awful now! these are mediocre sandwiches that should not be priced at nearly $20 after taxes. Literally the equivalent of me making a sandwich at home. The fact that you make the bread there should be the selling point of why your sandwiches are cheaper than other shops in town... Let people place phone orders without card info..i placed order over the phone and said I was bringing cash. I got there and no one made the sandwich cause I didn't give my card... are you kidding me? Get with the times and the convenience of 2024 or other sandwich shops will prevail.. I used to praise this place to all...gone are those days. Tip: I'm sure it's difficult finding help but high school kids with no sense of customer service should be the last option. House of Bread offers great breads and pastry but the sandwiches are outstanding. They have all the classics and I chose the Italian Grinder. The Grinder meats, turkey and salami were delicious and full of flavor. I chose the freshly baked honey wheat sandwich bread and was as good as it smelled. The additions, black olives, pepperocinis, lettuce and tomatoes were very crisp andd fresh. I was a bit skeptical of the cream cheese however it was applied lightly and was a perfect complement to the sandwich. The finishing touches were the olive oil, vinegar and shakers- not overpowering by any means. The House of bread has a large area to eat and outside dining, as well. I arrived a little bit after the lunch rush but they still had quite a few customers. The staff easily handled all the orders and my sandwich arrived shortly after I ordered it.
