I ordered the 7 inch Gulf Shrimp Poboy fully dressed and my coworker ordered the Southern Catfish Platter and substituted Swamp Fries (French fries covered cheese with crawfish etouffee poured over the top), a self-served 20 oz Coca-Cola fountain drink plus Hook sauce. My coworker enjoyed her meal, as usual, except there was no Hook sauce in the bag. I enjoyed my shrimp po'boy, but felt the amount of lettuce was skimpy. The shrimp were very fresh and nicely battered and fried. The cashier was patient, friendly, young and new to the register, but was eager to learn and not afraid to ask questions from experienced employees. First shrimp po boy that I have had and it was scrumptious. The bread was flakier than I anticipated but it was delicious. Odd. It's messy so make sure you keep the wrapper as a plate! The shrimp was fried perfectly and had tons of creole flavor. And it wasn't dry. I think they used a flavored Mayo and pickles to keep you on your toes. The potato salad was different. Good but different. Not great because my mom makes the best. It didn't have big chunks of potato because it was more mashed. The flavor was on point and the small cup they give you is actually quite filling. The Mayo to mustard ratio is ideal. My friends got the chicken po boy and the pieces of chicken were ginormous. I kinda wished I had got that sandwich instead of the shrimp. It looked juicy and irresistible. The seafood gumbo wasn't for me but I hear most people enjoy it. What a change from your typical fast food! That is probably my favorite thing about Off The Hook. Sometimes I want seafood but cant go sit down at a seafood restaurant. My family has tried the chicken, shrimp, fried pickles and catfish. We all agree that the shrimp is our favorite out of what we have tried. Service has been good both times we have visited this location. I do think that the food is pricier than most fast food but that is understandable due to the fact that you are ordering seafood. This restaurant is a hit with my kids. They enjoy the shrimp kids meal and the catfish kids meal. When we first ordered I thought the kids meals seemed small but it may be the way that they put it all in a fry cup. My kids are satisfied so that is all that matters. read more

We love the food and service at this restaurant. I usually get a small salad and the appetizer, barbecued shrimp with French bread. I ask for extra bread to sop up the liquid. It is the best that I have had at a restaurant. It is very close to what I can make. The double whisky sour is very good. We love the service which is usually very prompt tho on occasion has been a lil slow, but they always apologize. They have consistent staff which we recognize each other. On Thursday and Friday, they usually have a band as they have a huge dance floor with a band stand. The bar is not in the restaurant but in the dance hall. They have a huge crowd every time a band plays. When you walk in the dance part, with the huge square bar, you think you in Chackbay or one of the old bars/dancehalls I use to go to when I was young adult in Pierre Part. I love it. Service was good and the time to serve was fairly quick. Ordered a catfish and shrimp platter, an order of hushpuppies, a grilled shrimp wrap and a shrimp po'boy. The fried shrimp were good and I think the catfish would've been good too, if they were fresher. Hush puppies were burnt. The shrimp wrap barely had any shrimp- they were so tiny. I assumed the wrap and po'boy came with fries- that was my fault. I didn't read and assumed they included sides like the platter. I'll try again another day. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would... (FYI THIS IS AT 4:30PM-not even rush time) they took our order, then we waited in line for 30 minutes (with 4 people ahead of us).... Then we got to the window to pay, wait another 10 minutes to get our food and they messed up our order and didn't include our fries... so we asked for the fries, wait another 5 minutes for the worker to come back and say we owe $2 for the fries. We didn't pay it because of the frustration of the 30 minute wait at a drive thru fast food restaurant at 4:30.... got home and it was so nasty. Off the hook has been in my area for less than a year and from the start, cars have been lined up there. I have avoided going there mainly due to the unknown. Well the other night I took a chance. Called in a shrimp poboy and a Bon Temps Burger. Oh. My. As a true Cajun in south Louisiana I was impressed! I also had the red beans n rice and it was good! Tonight I took another chance. More burgers, hush puppies, potato salad and bread pudding. Now I don't eat just any potato salad. My mil has worlds best. I'm picky. But what I got from OTH was really good. Made a visit to my Mother in law's residence in Gonzales. After our visit, my wife and I felt like eating some good gumbo before heading home on a cold evening. Didn't feel like going to Don's or Mike Anderson's as they appeared to be crowded, so we gave Off the Hook a try. We live in Houma and have dined at that one before (very good fried seafood). The thing we noticed was that the interior was much nicer than the one in Houma. We definitely liked the decor. We wanted chicken and sausage gumbo, but unfortunately they were out so we ordered their seafood gumbo. We were not disappointed! Good homemade taste with plenty of shrimp. The price for two combos, with drinks and potato salad was approx $26. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to dining there again on a future visit to Gonzales. read more

We ordered take out for the 3rd time today. The first time, our meal was delicious.....shrimp and catfish poboys. We were so excited to have a good, new poboy place in Gonzales! The last two times (including today) were different. The bread was so soggy; the lettuce and tomato were very wet. When I held it up, "water" dripped out of the poboy. The paper that it was wrapped in was starting to deteriorate. I couldn't taste the hook sauce at all. The onion rings were fried perfectly, but they were so over salted, we could hardly eat them (and I LOVE salt). I'd like to say that we will give them another try, but not sure if we will. read more

Give 'em time. They just opened this one in Gonzales. The Off The Hook is Thibodaux is fabulous. Every menu item is bursting with flavor and quantity!! The drive-thru one there is a perfect science. This new one in Gonzales is just a baby. They gotta get their rhythm and overcome the co-vid regulations. First, they have their reputation preceding them as evidenced by the line of cars winding around the restaurant. Second, they have the co-vid regulations to deal with. So they have a lot of people who want to sample the goods and they can't even run on full steam yet. So they're crowded and limited in what they can do. My husband and I patiently waited out the 20 minute drive thru time. He ordered a bowl of seafood gumbo and a roast beef po-boy. I ordered a cup of chicken/sausage gumbo and an Off The Hook salad with grilled shrimp added. I scored! My cup of gumbo was jam packed with flavorful sausage and tender chicken and just the right seasoning. Not too salty and a nice little bite that didn't overpower the taste. And my salad was chock-o-block full of grilled shrimp! My husband's order disappointed. The seafood gumbo, though really rich with flavor, was mainly broth, one shrimp and some slivers of crabmeat. His roast beef po-boy was very very skimpy on the roast beef. No worry here of getting a sloppy pi-boy with juice running down your arm. But when they're up to the Thibodaux standards, this Off The Hook is gonna rock! This is an update, about a month after we went the first time. The seafood gumbo is no slouch! It's plenty full of seafood! Lots of shrimp. And still very yummy, not to salty (that's important. so many gumbos are ruined because they're too salty!). The roast beef po-boy is improved. There is plenty of roastbeef! And just the right amount of "au jus" on it to get on your hands but not run down your elbows! Truthfully, it is probably a PROPER portion size, but it will look a tad small to other roastbeef po-boys you may have had. But remember, serving sizes in America are most times obscenely over-sized, so this po-boy is probably just about right. And look, judging but the lines of cars going to OTH , at ANY TIME OF DAY, they are living up to their reputations in other established locations. Brand new and only the drive thru is open so we waited in line for almost an hour. New place. So that's expected. Ordered the fish & shrimp combo and two seafood gumbos. People were super friendly, but they left out a gumbo. When they prepared the gumbo they put a ice cream scoop of rice in the bowl and then gumbo on top. So it was pretty much all rice. The fish was really good, the shrimp pretty good. Good fries and awesome hush puppies. I thought it was a little pricy considering you can get a fried fish and shrimp plate at pretty much every corner in this area. Check it out for yourself. read more
