I bought an Fully-loaded Mirra open box chair for $600, just $250 below the full price, and they sent me a chair that was broken visibly and mechanically. It could not have possibly been an "open box", unless you consider it open-box in the sense that any product that has ever been purchased is. The back mesh had a tear at the base, the seat depth mechanism was broken and gives way on the left, leaving the seat uneven. How can you sell a chair, used or otherwise without sitting in it or looking at it? And how could it have gotten damaged in two unique ways during a normal return period? To top it off, it wasn't even fully loaded, it didn't have the forward tilt option. EDIT: More runaround from these people. They contacted me 2 days ago through yelp, offering to help. I tell her that their paypal guy acknowledged receiving the return already but gave me an excuse why he couldn't do the refund(blaming it on me of course). I proceeded to give him exact directions on how to do the refund(I use paypal for my business, too). The yelp contact asked for my order number so I send that. The next day I get a message saying they refunded me on the 13th. Do they really think I'd be bothering them if I had my money back? I responded immediately and am waiting yet another day for a response. How long should I have to wait for my money to be refunded? This was 100% entirely their fault. They only had to sit in or look at the chair to know that nobody would accept it. I wouldn't have paid $100 for that chair. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS. LOOK AT THE OTHER 1 STAR REVIEWS. Update 5/17: The replacement finally arrived, after playing phone tag with numerous shippers and taking a day off work for the supposed delivery date only to be called towards the end of the day saying it would now be the following week. However when they did eventually get here the switch was easy enough. So excited to have my new chair... opened it up and... it's 100% a used chair. USED. for nearly $1000. Maybe it was a return or something. But there are scratches all over the bottom, and one of the levers, the tilt, doesn't seem to work (I watched the instructional herman miller video and this lever isn't moving that way). But after 2 months I'll just have to live with this, I won't deal with Office Designs for another minute. All in all this was the single worst experience I've ever had with any online order, ever. Dropping the 2 stars to 1. ------ Original review below: My very, very expensive chair arrived with one of the levers snapped off. This didn't happen in shipping, it was clearly packed like that - the two parts of the chair were each in their own bag and this level was just on the floor of the box. It took a month for it to get to me, and when I contacted them about the problem I was told it would take at least another two weeks to replace it. So I am stuck storing their broken chair in my garage, taking up so much space I can't park in it at the moment, and I still have no chair. The Office Designs customer service is fantastic. I had a Steelcase Leap that developed a squeak. I sent it back for service, and when the chair came back it worked well for a couple months--before it started squeaking again. Office Designs came up with a good alternate solution without hassle that resolves the issue. I had a great experience talking with Jamie at Office Designs about what kind of chair I needed. He let me know that the Northbrook store is closed right now due to COVID-19, but after talking through different chair options he recommended the Herman Miller Aeron. I'm right between the B and C sizes for the chair (180lbs, 5'11") and he recommended the Size C, fully adjustable. What did I know about chairs before I met Home & Office Solutions? NOTHING! But now...Being an office worker for years and years, I thought a back ache was just part of the deal. Until Jamie, store manager, showed me what was possible. I have had my chair for several weeks and my back pain is gone. Now that I've got the support I need, where I need it at the right height for my desk, my wrist pain is also subsided. The extra surprise for me was the extensive line of Tempur-Pedic products they carry. I ordered a remastered Herman Miller Aeron from them a few days ago, it was listed as ready to ship with an awesome price. I placed the order, got a confirmation email and my CC was charged. The following morning, got a notice that my order was shipping and got a FedEx tracking number to be delivered in 2 day, so far so great! Unfortunately, down hill from there. Later that evening I got an email from their customer care team that they processed my order in error and my order will not be shipping. They stated the chair was out of stock and that someone will be contacting me to look at options. I inquired if they will be issuing a refund in the meantime as the charge was still on my CC, and got no reply. The next day I decided to browse their site to see what else they have in stock. The chair that I ordered was magically back in stock with a much higher price tag! It felt like they didn't want to sell me the chair at that price. The next morning I waited a bit to see if someone would contact me as I had to leave town later that afternoon. No one did, so I decided to buy elsewhere. One of their team leads did send me an email later that afternoon for ME to call him. It would've been nice to have gotten a call vs an email, a sense of urgency about the matter would've been appreciated. It all just felt a bit shady and non customer focused. I ordered an office chair from Office Designs (over many other researched businesses) in the beginning of September (9/9/2019). They offered shipping within three days. I still have not received the chair. I am most disappointed by Jimon Hill's communication.  I was confused to be copied on an email exchange between him and another employee after completing my order. I emailed back to find out the chair was not in-stock, and would not be for a while. While a minimal fraction of the cost was refunded (after reaching out multiple times) there was little to no communication. The two most recent emails I received are other good examples- from a sentence telling me the chair should arrive on 10/4, to responding to my email, today, with "delivery date: 10/18/2019" and nothing else (not to mention the date, 10/18, is quite a ways past 10/4). I would shop elsewhere, especially if you're looking for customer service/communication. read more

What amazing service! When my existing office chair "surrendered," I desperately needed a replacement. After spending more than a few minutes online looking for dealers, I happened to call Office Designs Outlet. It had been a while since I had purchased a chair, and I wanted to make sure that I was getting something up-to-date and warrantied. Randy L. was very helpful, thoughtful and walked me through the options, told me what was available, and gave me a very good price. While a new Aeron was bit more than a "refurbished/old generation" Aeron Chair, the price was every bit as aggressive as the other prices I saw online. Here's the interesting thing. It was Monday afternoon when I made the call. The chair was delivered "free" and on my front porch (several hundred miles away) on Tuesday afternoon. Assembly was a snap. I ordered a chair via amazon.com - order was fullfiled by company called - Office Designs. Paid $1500 for the chair and prompt delivery which was promised to be whitin a week (7 days). Amazon reported that the order was shipped on time and it is scheduled to arrive on the 14th of June. I took a day off work to wait for fedex and sign for the package, knowing if I don't do it the package will not be delivered. Somehow fedex driver didn't ring the doorbell and just left the notice on my door, which prompted me to set up a pick up of that "package" from fedex hub 10 miles away, which equals 2hrs drive in Brooklyn traffic. When I finally got the "package" - it was an ENVELOPE with a LETTER inside!! - I paid $1500 and they sent me a letter! In that letter they (Office Designs) are very sorry but the chair is not in stock and they want to inform me the chair will be delivered sometime around the 28th of June. They (Office Designs) updated the shipping on amazon.com to look like they shipped the chair to me - so I was under impression that the package contains exactly what I ordered. They tricked amazon and me to think that everything is fine and the transaction goes as promised while in reality they just sent me a piece of paper. When I called to tell them that I just spent 2 hrs in traffic and took a day off from work to get the package which was suppose to be a chair and turned out to be a piece of paper, person at Office Designs laughed and said that it shouldn't be a problem for me to wait 2 more weeks for the delivery. V ery disappointed with store policy abour purchase of Knoll Womb chair. Photo of fabric on website did not match actual color received. Charged $250 dollars to return chair (told that they discounted this return fee from regular $298 return fee for the chair.) Store will not do immediate even exchange. Have to wait until chair is returned before new chair in correct color can be ordered. Chair was delivered via Fed Ex semi-truck that could not drive down gravel road to our house. Husband had to drive his own pickup truck down to main road to meet semi. Driver helped him lift box onto husband's pickup. Driver refused to accompany husband to house to deliver the chair. Husband grappled with backing up pickup to door of house and cutting open box on bed of pickup and then carrying the chair into the house from atop the pickup bed. Awful experience. read more

So glad I found out how shady this outfit is before I bought from them. Due to back and neck problems, I have been in the market for an ergonimic chair. I called on a Wednesday and spoke to a man named Jose. He said they had many brands of office chairs and I confirmed the hours of operation each day of the week as listed on the website. They claim to be open 12-5 on Sunday. This past Sunday I decided to make the 30 mile drive to the showroom to check out their chairs. I once again checked the website to confirm the hours which were stated as 12PM - 5PM on Sunday. Surprise, surprise when I arrived at 3PM and they were closed. You would think that any company would bend over backwards to apologize for causing such an inconvenience to a potential customer. When I called, I asked to speak with the Manager and was told he wasn't available. The same Jose who answered the phone, said oh, sorry, the person must have left early and then proceeded to try to see what he could do to still sell me a chair anyway. By the way, when I called the customer care number, I also got Jose. I asked how I might speak to the manager and he put me in his voicemail. I also asked who owned the company and he gave me the name of the supposed parent company which he said was in New York. I realize how pointless that all was now because the "manager" who I left a voicemail for his also the principal investor in the parent company which is essentially just another name they use in the same location, not New York. I am not at all surprised that I did not receive a call back, just glad they got none of my money. I guess their compettition wins this one. read more

Jamie and company are the best! We recently decided to gift each other with new "dream chairs " for our living room. While we had the option to order them from several different sources, we decided to go with Home and Office Solutions (aka Office Designs), because they are local and we had gotten great service and pricing when we bought a nice office chair a few years ago. The ordering process was easy, we got a fair price with white glove delivery included - our confirmation was emailed to us. Both chairs were custom order pieces and the delivery was quoted as 8-10 weeks. 8 weeks later, we got a call that the chairs were in, but the delivery company was booked solid until the 2nd week of Jan. 2014. It was pretty disappointing to know that our chairs were going to be stuck in a warehouse through Christmas. After a few phone and email conversations, Jamie came to the rescue, pulled some strings and had his staff deliver the 2 chairs yesterday! They arrived in perfect condition, exactly as ordered, and the delivery person was very careful and conscientious. Bottom line is that we would definitely purchase from them again. My wife and I just bought two Herman Miller Aeron chairs from Home & Office Solutions, and we're delighted with the entire experience. I've been looking for ergonomic chairs for our home office for months and had been to several other stores. Home & Office Solutions has by far the best selection of ergonomic chairs (on the floor and in stock) of any store I've found in the Chicago area. Of all the people I spoke with during my search, Jamie (the store manager) was the most knowledgeable and helpful. He gave us all the time we needed and provided an excellent overview of all the chairs matching our needs. He also gave us a complete demonstration of the Aeron chair adjustments and urged us to call if we have any questions. The price was very competitive with other stores selling the Aeron chair. We ordered a conference table and we were told it would be inside delivery. They failed to update on our shipping time frame and it shipped several weeks after it should of. They told us we would have it on 2/26/13 and we received a call from the shipping company on 3/1/13 asking where our office was because the wrong shipping address was given. We are now scheduled for getting our table on 3/5/13 with a curbside delivery and we are responsible to move the product into our office on our own. I would never use this company again. read more

i decided to buy a Herman Miller Aeron Chair from them. The char came out to $1168.75 after i customized it. Another site, Smartfurniture.com , had the same exact chair for almost exactly the same price. I had talked to Smartfurniture.com and they said they would give me 15% off as i was a repeat customer. I decided to talk to officedesigns.com to see if they can match the discount and the sales agent i was chatting with , named Jimon (jimon@officedesigns.com ) said yes ( i gave him the chair name and the price that officedesigns.com was telling me, $1168.75 to make there was no confusion ) . He said put the order in and give him the order # and he will then apply the 15% off and send me revised statement afer i buy it. I did all of that and then later when i asked him to give me the refund he said that the chair was on sale already and 15% was applied already and he cant. He after i placed the order said that i was lying and that Smartfurniture.com doesn't offer 15% off and that they own smarfurniture.com which i dont really believe. He refused to give me the 15% refund and said he will cancel my order and not give me the 175$ refund which is the 15% he had agreed. He said the best he can do it 75$, not the 175$ he had promised. i Will never be doing business with them. On top of that, the chair will only ship it out in about 4-5 weeks. Seems like they dont even have it in inventory. This company doesnt respect customers, is very dishonest and doesn't really care about customer service. Avoid them.They see that cause of the Corona virus, many people have to work from home now and might need a good office chair , so they increase the price and just want to make alot of money when many people are suffering financially cause of the non essential business shutdowns mandated as result of the virus. Horrible experience. The website and even the door sign on their retail showroom says: open Sundays 12pm - 5pm. I arrived about 20 minutes past 12pm today. Low and behold, the door's locked! I go to the other entrance, ring the call button, no answer. I walk back to my car. Someone comes out and asks if I am looking for repair or sales. I say sales. He tells me the salesperson should be here and to come back in 30 minutes. I leave and come back in 40 minutes. Doors still locked. Another potential customer drives up. We wait 20 more minutes, no one. I guess it's a little crap shoot if these guys actually want to sell you something on Sundays. For me, I'm taking my business elsewhere. Wasted 30 minutes to drive here, 45 minutes of waiting. A business that doesn't respect my time doesn't deserve my business. Here's a novel idea - if you don't want to be open Sundays, just say so! read more
