This place makes me want to go to school and do hair! I can't say enough about the way they run this place. Now the background on me...I have gone to Ogle for about a year. I'm a 40 something guy that has had my hair cut by "high end" salons for years. I have a full head of hair. My standards are pretty high but reasonable. My cut is quite different than most. My work is professional and I frequently meet with C suite clients. I offer the detail so those reading can know a bit about me in order to gauge my thoughts. On to Ogle for the patron: Go, try them out, but be open. I enjoy watching professional teaching and they really do that at Ogle. I allow the time to be there, an hour is usually plenty and maybe a bit more for girls and color. The vibe is fresh, young, vibrant and the people are friendly. The instructors are super fun with great interaction with students and patrons. I picked an instructor I was drawn to and I have stuck with her students as a rule. On Ogle as a school: Let me prefix my comment by saying I clearly don't go to school at Ogle and I do not work there but I have been there many times and I always ask the students questions. GO! They are great. Do I see that it is challenging for students , yes. Do I see that it takes discipline to graduate, yes. I understand from talking with students that the tests require study but like many things that one enjoys learning about it comes quicker and the tests (practical and written) are a bit "easier". The school teaches many styles and methods of hair as well as other services. If you are considering going to a school like ogle treat it like a college and interview them. The first time, I have the best experience with a recent grad. She was quick and did everything right. I came a second time, and thought I had decent service until I realized my person cut my hair unevenly. It was extremely choppy, so I could assume why she really wanted to curl my hair... I wish she had more guidance instead of doing her own thing. Sometimes it gets pretty loud because they're always celebrating something or screaming about other things. However, if there's a good instructor on the floor, you don't have to worry about students getting distracted too much. read more

Plainly put, I came here in search of good haircut that didn't cost an arm and a leg. The short story: Bad front desk experience but an overall Mission Accomplished. Lots of people compliment my haircut, and no one believes I paid under $10 for the wash and cut. Full details: The place advertised that walk-ins are acceptable, but I would definitely schedule an appointment. Even then, the front desk was busy and chaotic, which resulted in subpar service. I let it slide because I didn't come here for 5-star treatment. If it had been a normal salon, however, that kind of service would have made me never come back. The cut itself was good. My stylist was slow but careful, which I didn't mind when the fate of my hair was at stake. I realized a hair school could even have an advantage over regular salons: Their instructors check the cut after the students have finished. That's 4 eyes making sure my hair hasn't been hacked to pieces. Plus, my stylist in particular was very receptive to my needs and wants, unlike pushy high-dollar professionals I have had in the past. I went in to ogle salon on Saturday July 27th and had one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a salon. I went in asking for a balayage and showed them a picture of exactly what I wanted. After they were done my entire head was bleached a blonde brown color completely different from what I had asked for. I have attached a picture of what I asked for and what I ended up with. One of the instructors came to "fix" my hair and the end result was exactly what I had walked in with that morning but slightly darker. I was charged $95 for them to bleach my entire head, and then return it to the hair I had when I waked in. I ended up spending all that money and wasted 6 hours of my time for my hair to look exactly the same when I walked out as what I walked in with. On top of that everyone was in a hurry to get out of there and I was basically being pushed out the door around 4:30 since I believe they closed at 4 that day. I paid and left but no one should have to experience that in a Salon and have their time and money wasted the way I did. I understand that they are students but I wasn't offered a discount or compensation or even a date to come back in for them to fix my hair. The teacher seemed in a hurry to have me out as well and could clearly see the hair wasn't what I wanted in my picture. The worst salon and school I have visited and will definitely not be returning. I came in here maybe 2 weeks ago, I believe I was helped by Phyllicia. I've recently went through a breakup, felt I needed to cut a couple inches off. I'm always nervous about cuts, my hair grows very slow. The room was rather noisy and she's pretty soft spoken, we didn't talk much, but I left there feeling amazing. I've gone to them twice and i can say that I am really impressed at the school and the students. They run it like how a well run salon should be run. It's not enough to know how to do hair but it's also about the rapport that you you have with your client. Which is what the student that worked on me is good at. They use high quality products and their technique is up to par. This review is based on the student that i've used twice in a row. So my experience is unique. However, from what i've seen is that their instructors check on their work and make sure they know what they are doing. LOVE LOVE LOVE! It's 90 plus freaking degrees in Dallas today...and feeling kind of humid. I don't know about you, but the LAST thing I wanna do on a day like today is shower and blow dry my own hair! Seriously, it can just zap you of the will to live (ok maybe slightly dramatic but really). Enter solution - Ogle School. I called around 11:30am to see if they had any available appointments - they did and the first one was at 3pm. So, I ran some errands and arrived about 30 min early for my appt. Being an ex beauty schooler myself - I kind of figured the time to come would be mid-day on a weekday (not Fri or Sat). Turns out I was on the money because they were able to get started shortly after my arrival at 2:30, and my shampoo/blow dry service was totally done by 3:30. Now for the excellent part - I give all of these 5 well earned stars to Jana Love, my stylist today. How freaking adorable is that name?!?! She was genuinely pleasant and just the perfect amount of conversational. A few questions and comments here and there while working mixed in with giving me time to totally zone out and enjoy the fact that I'm the laziest person on earth (too darn lazy to do this chore myself). I've had blow-outs galore (I've got several stylists friends & used to work in a salon...oh ok it's really because I'm a blow-out-aholic.), and let me just say I have a feeling this girl is gonna go far. For being so early in her career, it's already obvious Jana has SKILLZ. My hair felt amazingly awesome when I walked out...like a brand new silky straight weft of hair (that's the stuff you buy that's way thicker and in way better condition than the hair on most of our heads). I've never been so stinking happy about spending 8 bucks in my life. That's right EIGHT DOLLARS! Of course, I left her a tip, too. I mean...HAY-SUS...you can hardly get a sandwich & soda at Jimmy John's for $8. What a deal! I think Jana will be graduating in a month or so...which means I'll eventually have to check out some of the other students...but that's cool because most importantly these guys and gals are here to learn. That means -sometimes, services can take a lot longer in schools and sometimes you may not get the exact same uber-professional atmosphere of a professional salon. For the budget price, I think those are easy concessions to make. And for the record, today everything ran like a professional salon with only that teeny tiny buzz of giddy beauty school learning enthusiasm and student camaraderie floating in the air. I'll take that any day over self-absorbed, bored, holier than though vibes you can often detect in some of the "real" salons. I'm sure I'll be back for my next blow-out fix and I think I'll try a facial service too! read more

This was my first visit to a beauty school for any type of service- I have gone to multiple people over the years and it always seems to go the same...In my experience, they do their best work to impress you as a new client- I walk out of the first appt with my expectations exceeded. Sadly, it usually will not be a repeat performance. I have paid $40-$100 for a haircut- all with similar results; good and bad. My hope was that a student would be putting best work forth since it would be observed. I was correct- and then some. 3 different instructors came over to look at and discuss/train the girl who did my cut. I was VERY pleasantly surprised with my cut and style! She did a FANTASTIC JOB! Here is why I took off 2 stars: Fist off, I was there for a woman's shampoo, cut and style. 45 min/ hour max! I was there 2 full hours and left with a tension headache!!! In my opinion, before those students go near the public they need to be required to have a 1-2 hour etiquette class. The fact that it was happening all over the place, I KNOW the instructors have turned a blind eye to it. I honestly wished I could have said to the girl doing my hair, without being offensive/hurtful that when she is with a client, that client deserves her undivided attention. This young lady left me multiple times to go see something another student was doing. She texted multiple times. The very worst were the many conversations she felt it was necessary and acceptable to have with other students WHILE working on my hair... See with all the noise from dryers ect, she had to YELL.... IN MY EAR!!!! I had multiple questions about the styling of my hair- I never got to some of them! I was interrupted by various other students coming over (3-4 of them needed something so the girl doing my hair stopped to assist them!). Another girl came over and was snippy about something- well my girl and the girl at the station next to us made snippier comments back- it was bad! It was like being in a Jr. HS lunchroom. They (the ones I am referencing) were young- and this is a school. I don't blame them... I feel they need to be taught what will make their clients feel valued! They need to be taught to be present for their clients... I feel bad taking off the two stars and hope it will be taken as constructive criticism because while she didn't seem to notice I was there, she was never at all rude. She was a sweet girl who is working very hard to achieve her dreams! At the end of the day, my headache will go away- And I'll really be able to appreciate the GREAT haircut I received!! In my opinion, there is a correlation...the better the "experience" and the more valued the client feels, the more faithful that client will be and the more generous. read more

Decided to try this place to save some money. I wouldn't reccomend it for nail services because this does not seem like their strong suit. Made an appointment for an evening on a weekday and was seen 20 min later. The atmosphere was loud and not very relaxing, but that's expected for a Beauty School. The technicians were a little inexperienced, but still did a decent job for the price my friend and I paid. Students are not allowed to use nail clippers or trim cuticles, so they can only file your nails. The "regular pedicure" is basically just a polish change because they don't scrub pr pumice. They also don't soak feet for the "spa pedicure. ". The color selection is also very limited. I was only satisfied with my gel manicure because it was so cheap, but the technician did not paint near my cuticles so it looks a little grown out. It's a hit or miss I guess, but I don't think I'll be returning for their nails services besides gel manicure. read more

AWWWWWFul!!!! Don't walk away RUNNNNN!!!!! Seriously I should have known better then attempt to color my hair here, but I figured I could save a little money, and just needed a touch up on my roots, and even my old roomie who isn't a stylist used to do it for me in a bind no problemo. I had hoped people who studied hair everyday and who worked under the direction of instructors could handle the task. Boy was I WRONG!!! My hair looks absolutely atrocious!!! I have light red roots that get progressively darker and spotted. Mind you the first thing I told the girl was I HATE RED and don't want any red undertones, simply a dark chocolate brown all over. I realized about half way through the service I was doomed when I caught a glance of the lady next to me getting her hair blown out and it was an atrocious blonde-green color!!!!! Yes green!! Then the instructor checked her off without even a second thought. Are you freaking blind??? Not only does my hair look busted, but this abuse took over 5 hours!!!!! This was for a touch up color!!! I couldn't take sitting there any longer and just decided you get what you pay for and I will call a decent salon to fix this hot mess ASAP, but then I go to check out and the front desk people tell me it's $47. UMMMM how about NOOOO!! The ladies up front had the most disgusting tone and personality with me I think I have ever experienced by someone in any service job. Yes I paid just to get out of that hell hole. HUUUUUUUGE Mistake!!!!! All I can say is I'll never do that again. I wasted $50, put my hair through hell, missed an entire day of work, and had to deal with incompetent front desk staff. Save yourselves!!!! read more

I went to get gel nails since I just recently got some I wanted to see if how good a school would be. HAHAHA my mistake!! No customer interaction. I would sit at the little table (since they don't have an actual nail counter) alone because I don't know where the lady went off to. She talked to me for a bit but just about school. I had gel on my nails when I got there and it took awhile to get those off. She said she had 2 months left but she was reading off of a paper how to do gel nails. I was worried at that point. Long story short. I left after an hour an a half I was so impatient and I HATE my nails. They are still wet and I left there 20 minutes ago! She got several commendations regarding her work ethic, productivity, compliments on her excellent work, high client intake and sales, and more from the teachers! I know that it is unusual for a client to ever hear all this but I couldn't be more proud knowing that I was in expert hands. She listened to all my comments and concerns, very patient & sweet, and dedicated to the hours she put in on just my hair alone. I never saw her waste any moment chatting up other students with her great focus on the task of doing a color & highlight on my waist length hair. First, some hair background - or skip to next paragraph for direct review of Ogle - long ago, while in school, I used to go to the local beauty school (in IL) for cheap upstyling for events and to give friends "real world" experience so they could obtain hours necessary to finish beauty school licensing. Ended up following a friend who started doing hair from her home at low cost for friends (with her license) and totally forgot about beauty schools for a while. Moved away from my friend and had bad experience after bad experience at salons. One cheap priced salon left my hair looking like a calico cat. Opposite extreme was next and paid almost $300 for a partial foil and cut, which ended up average at best. After being all wtf?!, I gave up and neglected my hair for a bit and then abused it with box color. However, after moving to Texas, I decided to look at yelp for reviews to hopefully find a happy-medium between quality and price to start taking care of my hair again. Happened to run across the phrase "beauty school" in one description and a light bulb went off reminding me of the good ol' beauty school days. Decided on Ogle due to location being close to work and reviews were mostly great with few complaints all pointing towards phone service, not hair issues. I have now been to Ogle twice and absolutely love them! First visit was about two weeks ago for a FULL highlight and cut. Less than $50 and looks GREAT! Christina is wonderful. The instructors are good about checking in, but Christina had it all under control. She was great about informing me as to what she was thinking, asking what I thought and was open for feedback from others. There was no ego to check, just great vibes and quality service! Second visit was today for a heat treatment. My hair feels so fantastic and healthy! Christina was great about recommending products and I really trust her opinion since she's not just trying to get comission, but genuinely cares about the health of my hair. Overall, I would definitely recommend Ogle (and Christina) as it is a great way to get expert hair services for great prices! If you're concerned about any risky choices, the teachers are always there to step in when needed and help consult with issues. With color, they are always in sync with students and talking through their plans. Plus, students are on the cutting edge of all things hair and soaking up knowledge. It's more of a risk going to a salon and not knowing how up to date the stylist is and not having the experts there to help weigh in on decisions. Yes, I've had messed up hair appointments and a few rude phone calls... Here a few tips 1) When I make appointment, I write down the person I spoke with. 2) I reconfirm my appointment the day before and a few hours before appointment. 3) I never go on a Friday or Saturday. It's too busy. 4) I usually go in evenings on Mon, Tue or Wed. They don't close until 9pm. 5) I went to Olge for several months (wash and flat iron) to develop a relationship with student. After looking over reviews, I decided to head out to this location, rather than the Mockingbird one, where I had some decent to good experiences, years ago. Despite my needing to change appointment time at almost the last minute (mea culpa, apologies made), they managed to fit me in a bit later the same day, which I appreciated. It also turned out it was the last day of a special, so my wash/cut/style was half off. Given that, I splurged on a conditioning treatment; I'm not sure how much difference it made, but it felt good to sit under the dryer with the conditioner presumably infusing its way into my damaged hairs. The young lady who took care of me (I've forgotten her name~I'll call her Simone) was just on the verge of graduating, and didn't need very much oversight. She did call over the director,getting her to look it over and help perfect things. They worked together a bit, with the director pointing things out, mostly approvingly, about what Simone had done, and what else was needed. In the end, I had a pretty darned nice layered cut for $4.50 (not counting the condition treatment and a tip for Simone). The whole process probably took a little more time than at professional salons I've visited, but it was very pleasant, and I was happy with the results. A great help for those of us in difficult financial circumstances. I'm sure things can be hit or miss, given the ever-changing student body (I was there on the first day of a new class of students, as they were being toured around, getting the lay of the land), but this was a good experience, with friendly, pleasant people from start to finish, so I'd recommend giving it a try, when your budget won't stretch to loftier haunts. read more

Okay, so I know schools are a hit or miss. It's cheap, but you play roulette- you may get a natural at cosmetology, or you may get someone who hasn't quite found their calling yet. However, I'm a college student with very little money, and a lot of dead and over-processed hair, so I don't have a lot of options. I went in, got my hair cut (about 4-5 inches), and got full blonde highlights that blended with my natural hair with Myla. The instructor was attentive, consulted with the both of us multiple times, and always stopped by if there was every a question. The end result... Myla is extremely talented, and it's probably one of the best color jobs I've ever head in my entire life. The color looks incredibly natural and blended in, so I won't have harsh lines when my hair grows out. The layers are so pretty and fall perfectly, the dead ends are gone completely and my hair is soft and shiny. If you go here, ask for Myla, because she did an amazing job. Best part?
