My visit with Ohana Dental went great. Everyone there was super friendly and helpful. They took great care of me!

I've had two dentists my entire life. The first was my mother and, well if you haven't figured out the second by now, keep scrolling. I grew up in the dental office. Later, I managed my mom's practice for nearly 10 years. I know what to look for in good and bad dental practices. My mom retired when I was 38 years old, I was extremely apprehensive placing the trust and confidence of my teeth in to anyone. Then, I met Dr. Kang. He didn't pressure or try to convince me to visit his practice. He didn't try to sell me with empty words, catchy slogans, tag line mottos, or social media hype. He simply said, come in and make an appointment if you want to, no worries if you don't. That was it. Two years ago, I finally made that appointment, I was, and still am, impressed with his staff's professionalism, expertise, and care. He's conservative with procedures, and does everything he can to save your teeth rather than try to squeeze every dollar out of your annual benefit by suggesting the most expensive options. His suggestions are purely for your benefit, not his, which is rare to find, imo. He and his team have found a way to combine exceptional hand skill while using the latest advancement in technology. Scheduling? Easy! Call, email, or text. Boom. Done. Payment plans? He's got you squared away. Organized, clean, and friendly. Spending extra time to make sure you're comfortable. Lastly, TIME. He and his team are punctual, efficient, and precise. If there were corners to cut, I would've seen them. I'm so glad I don't have to shop around for dentists. That's a PITA in and of itself. read more

As a first time patient, Dr. Kang will give you his spiel - we are family, we treat you well, we take care of you. Well after 2 years of his (team's) services. No thank you. His hygienist uses the least amount of water, if any. Probably to save. I got charged $250+ to fix a crown that got loose two weeks after the procedure. And its because he says I did not go in for periodic check ups, even though no one told me or reminded me that I had to. He rejected my request for teeth whitening, teeth straightening, replacing a composite on one of my chipped front tooth and he even yelled at me for not listening to him when he "encouraged" me to go for the crown instead of a fill-in. After that initial visit, I always felt tense coming into his office for any other service. I kept my conversations short and professional with him and his team so that I don't get into their bad side. Seems like a lot of his negative reviews are because of that. Like all other dentists they run up my insurance, charging $600 for a cleaning which they would probably charge $100 if I paid cash. I am also certain he will respond with his salty remarks about how we people do not take care of our teeth like we should, yup family oriented he says. Since it's been over a year and because of some recent discomfort I've been experiencing due to my neglect, I nearly dreaded this morning's appointment. What a relief, when I reclined in the dental chair. Thanks, Dr. Wong, for the tip on keeping my mouth closed to reach and thoroughly brush the back of my rear molars. Thanks for the flossing technique refresher demo with me holding the mirror, showing the importance of guiding the floss firmly alongside each tooth and below the gumline. Thanks for the painless and meticulous deep cleaning, and your war on calculus. Thanks, Dr. Kang, for explaining and re-explaining all my options moving forward based on today's and prior x-rays. The office staff is warm and welcoming. The decor is also sophisticated without those cheesy stock photos of people smiling. Most of all, I had an almost pain free experience getting my teeth cleaned (it was probably the best experience with teeth cleaning that I've ever had). Dr. Wong did an outstanding job revising a filling previously done poorly by another dentist. The office equipment is highly advanced; which is so helpful to catch problems early. I moved and moved to a new dentist. After feeling a lot of sensitivity in my filling, I got it rechecked by a new dentist. The old filling (done by Ohana) was horrible. It felt like cement was stuck in my tooth, very gritty. After getting it re-done (by a new doctor), I cannot express the difference I am feeling, but also my tooth looks like a tooth again. The Ohana Dentist called me and stated it was non-intentional of the (horrible) work on the filling. Understood. It is what it is. They are transparent with the cost of the services and always have the itemized cost presented to you before beginning the service. The facility here is clean and well managed. I've been searching for a skilled and trustworthy dentist my whole life as I'm always having teeth issues (very cavity prone). I am TERRIFIED of the dentist and Ohana Dental was the first dentist that I felt the most secure and comfortable at. I've pulled all 4 wisdom teeth with Dr. Kang, 1 root canal, 1 crown and multiple fillings and now I'm going to get another 2 crowns with him today. These were the scariest dental procedures I've been through and he makes sure it goes as pain free as possible. One of the scariest things is the numbing shot but Dr. Kang is so skilled at it, I'm always asking for the numbing shot now! (LOL) Him and his staff know how much of an anxious patient I am and yet they still make me feel the most comfortable I've ever felt! 10/10 always and if you're one that is scared of the dentist like I am, it's an 11/10 experience!! read more

Updating my review for COVID times! I wasn't sure what going to the dentist was going to be like since the pandemic hit, but Dr. Kang and his team were so awesome and professional despite all of the new hoops they have to jump through to keep things safe. I scheduled my appointment over the phone and received a reminder call a few days before (which I appreciate). When I arrived, there were two signs on the doors with updated protocols for the office, including social distancing, no walk ins, waiting outside, and asking patients not to come in if they're feeling sick. I was waiting outside and popped my head through the door to see if they were ready--they mentioned in the future to just give them a call so I don't have to wait too long if it's hot out. They took my temperature and then led me back to the room--they've restricted waiting room seating and have a big plastic divider between the wait room and the patient rooms. I saw Dr. Kang briefly and everything was a-okay dental health-wise, so I did my cleaning and was out the door in less than 40 minutes. I'm sure it was a lot of work to reopen and keep up with the new standards every day, but Dr. Kang, the hygienists, and the team are doing an awesome job. Thank you all! read more

I am so thankful to have had the connection to get treated for my root canals and wisdom teeth extractions at Ohana Dental. I have been searching quite a bit for a trustworthy and affordable dentistry and that had led me to Ohana. I first came in to get four of my wisdom teeth pulled out and you can only imagine how scared I was... (I am pretty terrified of the dentist) I had first gotten my X-Ray taken and was told what I needed to get fixed as well. Dr. Kang had greeted me and explained to me about how the procedure would go + the cost for all the treatments. He was super genuine and I felt super welcomed. My wisdom teeth extractions we're really difficult due to them being so deep inside my tissues and also growing sideways, but Dr. Kang took them all out without much pain. Literally the top two came out so quickly I didn't even realize he took them out already! He always makes sure that I'm never in pain and always asks me if anything hurts- which really helps when you're freaking out by the loud dental equipment noises... I would recommend this dentistry 10/10 and will be coming here for my future cleaning as well. I want to thank the staff, especially Deanna and Sharon for being so warm and welcoming as soon as I walk in! Don't be fooled by Kang; this place is a SCAM. I should have read all the negative reviews before going, had I done it, I would have avoided a headache, being overcharged, and most important avoided poor work. TL;DR For yelpers that don't have time to read, just look at the attachments from my dental insurance (Cigna) and my Personal Wellness Account (PWA). The dental insurance attachment specifically states what they (my insurance) are responsible for and what I'm responsible for. Compare that to what they charge my PWA, you can clearly tell I was overcharged. The proof is clear as day and night. The extra charge was for additional work they never did which surprised, surprised was not reported to Cigna. But for a more in-depth explanation, please proceed. Let me start by explaining a little about myself so you can understand where I'm coming from and why things played out the way they did. I've had really bad experiences with dentists in the past. For this reason, I held off getting work done for over 10 years; I had the old school amalgam fillings that I knew had to be replaced because they are bad for your health. So, I scheduled an appointment during a vacation, things went pleasantly well the first time that I scheduled another appointment two days later. The experience went so well I even scheduled an appointment for my twin. Now the second visit was also pleasant but not like the first, Kang did the work himself the second time and his work style was a lot different compared to the other dentist (female) which was more attentive and caring. My first visit, I left paying $214 out of pocket. The second visit I paid $660. Now the issues: Weeks later, I received the statement from Cigna (my second visit, never got the first) the amount didn't add up because the statement was telling me that I was responsible for only $256.80 yet I paid $660. What annoys me more, is that on the day of the appointment as I was waiting in the dentist chair, Kang himself told me that my dental insurance was "MAXED OUT" (his words) and that if it was fine to charge me $660. I told him that was fine. As it turns out, my insurance was not maxed out. Even after he himself told me my insurance was maxed out and I paid the full amount, he still billed my insurance for the full amount $660. I also looked into my first visit and discovered I was over charged again; if you take a look at the screen captures, all the proof is there. Fast forward to the day I went in to find out what the issue was, he pulls me into his office and explains how the portions I paid was for additional work his office did. There are many issues I have here, one, according to him, they did six fills. That never happened. Two, that "extra work" was not reported to Cigna. My question, why not? While we were talking, I also brought the work they did and how poor it was. First issue, the work he personally did was extremely poor. As of right now, I can't apply too much pressure when eating because the molar is too sensitive and becomes worse when eating hot food. Another issue, flossing; prior to coming flossing wasn't an issue. Now I have to be cautious because the floss itself ALWAYS RIPS. ALWAYS. Which is very annoying. Finally, a piece of my tooth came off when flossing one day and food gets stuck in there EVERYDAY. It's the same place where they did the work. Kang told me his work came with a warranty and that he would gladly fix for free. SCREW THAT! I told him no way is that going to happen. Another thing I have to point out is, I rarely write negative reviews, honestly this is my first negative on Yelp I have ever written. So take that into account and do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs. As another yelper put it, CUSTOMER BEWARE: INSURANCE SCAMMERS! read more
