Very patient with us as none of us had been there before and we were taking the menu in haha while we were reading the menu a bunch of people and went picking up their to-go orders! We know that was a good sign! I forgot what my friends got, a poke bowl of some sort and a curry I think. They both enjoyed it! I got the pulled pork bento box! I thought it was really flavorful and tasted great! I would have liked a little more pork for the price but besides that it was great!!! Ohana Island Kitchen is such a great find in Denver! It's casual inside but the food is packed with flavor and there are plenty of great options to choose from depending on your mood. I ordered the kalua pork bento with a side of mac salad and a spam musubi, and everything was exactly what I was craving. The pork was tender and smoky and the rice was seasoned well (although next time I will have to ask for extra Japanese pickles)! Parking can be a little tricky as it is mostly street parking in the area but the meal is worth the minor hassle. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying more of their menu. read more

Charge like 6 bucks for an extra portion of tuna with the kalua pork plate, which is fine but when I saw the sides it was literally like a small handful of fish. When I asked if they could just add a little more, because I am used to them giving a pit more. Not even a lot, just a like a tiny bit more , they were gonna charge another 6 dollars... not good. Small little shop with so much to delicious food to offer. The poke bowl was fresh, simple and delicious. They don't try to overcompensate by adding a bunch of additions to the dish. This has become my favorite Hawaiian restaurant in Denver. This place doesn't just serve poke: although the menu is not expensive, I really like the selection of items they serve. Its ambience is so matching with the cuisine. Mint colored walls with cute decorations are adorable to say the least. It's quite petite inside so this place is more for to-gos. I wonder what it's be like during the peak lunch hour. The young man behind the counter was very courteous and friendly. The restaurant wasn't busy at the time of my arrival but maybe it was a Tuesday night?? After I had placed my order several people came in as if to jinx it. The Kahlua Pork is an amazing dish. I was truly impressed with the macaroni salad. I've been to a Hawaiian restaurant in Aurora but their macaroni was too decadent/rich to a point where it made me concerned about the calories. I received the Kaluha Pork Mix Plate, which came with pork, rice and a salad. There was lots of salad, which was a good thing. The plate seemed like it was slim on the meat, which was unfortunate. The meat I did have was fine, but it didn't blow me away and seemed like it needed more sauce. The rice was fine, but I would've taken more meat over lots of rice. The customer service was great and the delivery was quick. There was no way to denote the order was gluten free when ordering online, but I called and they worked it out fairly easily. read more

When I walked in, the girl taking my order acted like I was taking too long -- not exactly welcoming. The moment she hit the payment screen, she walked away without a word to go do something else. So post class and craving poke I grabbed Marissa C, and we made our way to Ohana Island kitchen. SPACE: While the space is small, it def gives off all the island vibes. Inside, the aqua painted walls with white trim and picnic tables fill the space. On the walls you will find a few family pictures hung in white frames. There's a small patio that helps to make the most of the sunny Colorado days. SIPS: I love Hawaiian Sun drinks. Like a lot. So naturally I was stoked to see the case next to the register stocked full of my favorite Hawaiian Sun drinks. I chose the Pass-O-Guava, and it definitely paired perfect, as always. SUSTENANCE: Spam musubi is officially my weakness, and Ohana Island Kitchen def has some tasty spam musubi. For the main event, I decided the spicy tuna bowl, while my fellow diner opted for the kalua pork plate. Everything in my poke bowl tasted fresh and delicious. I do wish there were more customization options available, but I think I have gotten spoiled by all the build your own places out there. Traditional certainly tastes just as good. Searched and searched through my bookmarked restaurants and this is where it led me to Ohana Island Kitchen. I thought this place was going to be bigger than it was, but there are only about 4 tables on the inside with most of the seating outside. However, the establishment is unique and fun. I love the blue paint job and the way that they've decorated the place. The menu is simple with only a few things to choose from and it's reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. Ordered the kalua pork mixed plate and am in a conundrum about it. Half of the food I enjoyed, but the other half was not so great. The pork is absolutely the highlight of everything I ate. It was very tender, juicy and flavorful. The mac salad was good, but could've used more flavor. The rice had little flakes of seaweed on top and although they were so small they ruined the rice for me because it was incredibly fishy tasting. Lastly, the salad was way too fragrant tasting and didn't have that bright flavor that salads usually have. From reading the reviews, I think most people come here for the poke bowls so maybe you will have better luck than I did if you're into that. read more

This is a small, unpretentious eatery that serves delicious, tender kalua pork. The kalua pork bento box isn't a bento box per se, but it is delicious, with shredded pork on one side and steamed rice with sesame nori sprinkle on top with two types of pickles on the side. There is a nice space outside to sit and enjoy, or stay inside at one of the two picnic tables or highboy tables for two. Aww, what a bummer. With an almost 5-star rating on Yelp, I was excited to try Ohana (especially because I love this neighborhood) but walked away super disappointed by the food and customer service. I only ordered spam musubi to-go but know Ohana is more popular for its poke bowls and ramen. Maybe that's my bad for ordering the wrong item, but spam musubi really isn't that hard to make. The spam slices were incredibly thin. There was hardly any sauce. I mean, three musubi for $15 is expensive, especially when it felt like mouthfuls of rice. I'm going to say that my visit was a fluke because I'm pretty confident this place could do better. Perhaps the cashier was having a bad day. And the chefs in the back. Who knows? Finally found a simple, high quality (ie, authentic) poke bowl that reminds me of home! The spicy poke and spam musubi were indistinguishable from Foodland or your average solid poke stop in Hawaii. Got to slurp it down with some Hawaiian Sun. Sashimi grade, so ono. Sat on the patio under an umbrella, just missing the sand...and ocean. My main criticism of virtually every other poke that I have tried in Denver is the excess of toppings. The poke scene is but one example of the DIY ordering process that caters Western individualism, has swept the country, and spoiled the poke bowl. Every bite transported us straight to Hawaii even though we haven't been in Hawaii lol.
