My partner and I came for a late lunch after visiting Pearl Harbor. The place was pretty empty. There's an impressive variety of sandwiches on the chalk board. We each had a sub - I got the tuna and my partner got one with cold cut and cheese. We each got the wheat bread. The bread was really thick and pretty flavorless. We didn't think it added anything to the meal other than as a vehicle to hold the contents. The portions of meat/tuna were fine. Too much lettuce/green pepper on each sandwich masked the other flavors. I didn't see any options for hot or sweet peppers. That likely would have helped. The folks there were nice. As I'm sitting in the shop waiting for five sandwiches to be made I decided it's time to update my review. I come here more often than my visits indicate because I absolutely luv the place. First the sandwiches are awesome! One of those 'have it your way' places with the freshest white or wheat bread and they put other sandwich shops to shame when it comes to prices and size. When everyone was raising their prices 20-25% and more this shop increased a measly 10% and didn't resort to shrinkflation in addition to the price increase as so many others did. I like that I can get a salad with the same meats, cheese, veggie toppings for the same price as the sandwich....$10.95 in most cases, where can you get a fresh salad that cheap? I'm a huge fan of the Açaí bowls too....big bang for the buck! Parking in the Pearl Kai shopping center. Can go on line but I'm not a fan of that. read more

Deciding what to eat for dinner and knew I wanted a sandwich. I could either go to Subway or try somewhere new and opted for Ohana Sub in Aiea. I normally get a steak & cheese at Subway so I just got it here. Steak & cheese with mayo and ranch. Portions are humongous for a whole sub ($25). The bread is super soft and delicious! Sadly that was the only thing I liked about the sub was just the bread. The "steak" or beef whatever you wanna call it, is not good meat at all, lowkey tasted like liver. Green onions were cut so thick. Wished it was cut in thinner slices so it's easier and tastier to eat. The quality wasn't all there. Maybe I got the wrong sub, probably could've tried something popular but my favorite type of sub has always been a steak & cheese but now I know that Subway is just better. I've been going to this spot for about a year now but I recently noticed a significant price increase of about $8.... At first I didn't mind too much, but the last couple of times I went I also noticed that they have been putting less of everything in the sandwiches. Decisions, decisions I love coming to this place. It's a small hidden gem in the Pearl Kai mall. It's easy to miss since, it's not in a great location and parking is tough in the area. It just seems that the stalls are smaller then normal no that's not it, this part of town more trucks are reconstructed:| There are two sizes of sandwiches half and whole. The whole is definitely longer than a subway Footlong, way more tastier, and overall cheaper. Then only problem you'll have is what to get. Everything I've gotten I have enjoyed. The crazy part is that I probably enjoy the bread more than the stuffing. It is firm enough to hold everything together and soft enough to not exercise your jaw. But since I can't drive to Hale'iwa all the time and try to avoid town at all costs, this is the next best thing. And they are waaay more affordable than Stortos. And the meats and combos taste just as great. I can't say no to a Rueben. My only recommendation is they make it on Rye Bread as it should be. Now this is what I call a sub sandwich! We ordered the Bolo on white which came out to about $30+ for the whole sub. Sounds expensive but we - 3 of us - ate a little more than half of the sub and we all got full. Saved the other half for the next day and got two meals out of it. Located at the Pearl Kai complex, across from Pearlridge and they're open everyday. I also know they have another location in Wahiawa but they have slightly different business hours. We ordered online and the food was ready fairly quickly. We were greeted by two people who I wish I had gotten their names because they were super helpful and friendly...excellent customer service! They were out of pepperoni, salami and pastrami the day we went which was kinda depressing because almost every sandwich had those ingredients and the sandwich we originally wanted had those ingredients. I am beyond disgusted and upset. I paid $26 plus tip for a sandwich for my daughter, and it was hands down the nastiest sub we've ever had. The first red flag was hearing the microwave open and close repeatedly. Then the employee actually told me our order was "still in the microwave"the meat, onions, and cheese were all being microwaved. There was no freshness at all, the cheese wasn't even melted, and there was paper mixed into the sandwich. The final straw was finding hair in the food, which made my daughter vomit shortly after eating it. This wasn't just bad food it felt careless and unsanitary. Used to love going to Ohana subs but it has been about 5 months since my last visit. Knowing how crowded they normally are I tried to phone order to shorten my wait. Called 3 times within a 10 minute span and no one picked up. Becuz they were normally very busy decided I would order when I got there. No other customers waiting when I ordered and it seemed less busy than I've ever seen before -- at 12:15 pm. 3 employees working so they started my order right away. Stopped by for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Not too busy and there was only 3 people working. Really small shop across from Aloha Affordable vet. There were a lot of options but only one choice of bread. The half sub was huge and the price is the same for them all. I got the aunty with jalepeno cheese and mustard. My boyfriend had the italiano with Italian dressing and Monterey Jack cheese. Our only complaint is that there was hardly any meat. Read a good amount of great reviews and thought I'd give them a try. I went in and the place was clean. 2 people ahead of me who ordered half a sandwich each. I decided to order a Paradise. Even with 2 orders ahead of mine, my sandwich came out pretty quick. I took it home and unraveled the paper to reveal my sandwich. Yes, I agree the bread was big, but the meat portions were small, and there was some avocado that didn't cover the bread, a flat layer of lettuce, a little onion, and the papaya dressing that I chose, and that's it! As I bit into paradise, I was disappointed . The sandwich lacked depth of flavor. It was just blah! Not to mention there was portions of the sandwich that wasn't covered with papaya dressing and a slice of cheese. I could taste the bread, which I thought was flavorless. Maybe, I should have asked for extra dressing? Who knows. I decided to doctor my lost in paradise sandwich. I sliced up some tomatoes, added some hot peppers, spinach, and more avocado sprinkled with a little salt and red pepper flakes. Wish I had some pickled onions and more meat, but I didn't. However, when I bit into it...yes, now this is how a sandwich should be. No one should have to leave a sandwich shop and go home to doctor it up. Especially, after paying over $20 for a whole sandwich, not to mention the tip. Ohana you can do better! Add more lettuce, onions, tomatoes, banana peppers, jalapenos, spinach as options. I'm disappointed in myself for not reviewing Ohana Sub sooner. Today I had the Bolo. Remember the Opu Buster at Mr. Subs? This is Ohana's version. All the meats, including bacon. Pretty sure there's Pastrami, bologna ham, turkey, and roast beef in there. Avocado is in it, adding extra creaminess to the mix. Had it with all the veggies except bell peppers, mayo and their proprietary papaya dressing. Service is always friendly and they layer the sandwiches nicely and wrap them, sealed with a smile. The Bolo is a little pricey but you get your money's worth. My wife and I shared it and my wife could only eat a quarter at one sitting. Located in Pearl Kai Shopping Center. This is one of my favorite sandwich places for the fact that it's close, they make their own breads and the sandwich is good. There sandwich's are big. It not the normal 6 inch that you get at other places. The half is an 8' packed with whatever you want to add in. My favorite is the turkey plus with extra papaya dressing on it. I'm not the typically sandwich eater so I don't load it up with everything. My next go to is her amazing meat balls. It's not on the menu as an option but I typically go there just for the meat balls .... Hence I'll order a meat ball sandwich with no bread! lol which sometimes they look at me funny but depending on whom is working they will put it in a container or put make up there own idea of just the meat ball orders. Either way it's amazing to just eat them by themselves. I have to mention that the owner bakes the bread which is fluffy and flaky. I love sub sandwiches and I'm happy I got to try this place! It's similar to Stortos and a good alternative if you don't want to drive out to town or the north shore. It's a small sandwich shop with counter seating and 6-8 tables located in Pearl Kai shopping center with lots of parking. Luckily, I beat the crowd because after I ordered my food, there was a long line... They have a huge menu so it was a little overwhelming, but I went with the Italiano because I love pepperoni and salami. I also added all the veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion, & bell peppers) with papaya seed dressing and pepper jack cheese. I know a sub sandwich is good when the veggies are crisp and fresh so that's a plus with this spot! The sandwiches are HUUUGE!!! I only ate half of the half sub and saved the rest for dinner. We found Ohana Sub through Yelp when I had a craving for sandwiches one Sunday. It seemed like the perfect spot, especially since we love supporting local, small businesses, and it was conveniently located near where we planned to be during lunch hour. She took our order in a very robotic way, which was a little disappointing since we were hoping for a warmer, more welcoming experience. What made it more noticeable was that after we ordered, another customer came in, also for the first time, and the cashier was much more attentive with him. She took the time to explain the menu and recommend sandwiches based on his preferences. We didn't get that kind of service, and it left us feeling a bit overlooked. Had we received the same treatment, this review would have likely been very different. As for the food itself, I enjoyed my sandwich, it was fresh and tasty, but my other half felt his could have used a lot more sauce. He likes bold, flavorful sandwiches, and despite asking for extra sauce, it seemed to be lacking. He ended up adding some from home after we took the sandwiches back, which made his experience a bit underwhelming. I did tell him that next time he should try something else and maybe his experience would be a little different. I'd be open to giving Ohana Sub another try when I'm in the mood for a sandwich, but I'm not sure the rest of my family will be as eager to return. They certainly do spread joy! After my first experience at the OG Wahiawa location I was thrilled to learn they opened a second location in Aiea. Though it's much much smaller in size they still do offer a few seatings that many seem to take advantage of (myself included). As soon as you walk in the first thing you notice is how vibrant the decor is with a giant sub riding the wave on a surfboard the other side is their massive chalkboard menu as what an amazing job the artist has done with it as it's so stunning to get lost in searching for that right selection. This visit it was the Shaka-Shaka (Pepperoni, Salami and Bologna) you start by choosing your meat base then you build it to your choice of Veggies all or your choice (Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Bell Peppers and Srouts), Cheese choice of one (Provolone, Cheddar, Jalapeño, Monterey Jack, or Swiss), Dressings (Mayo/Mustard, Papaya Seed, Italian, Thousand Island, Vinaigrette or Ranch) all as a snack or hungry Half or Whole Sub. I've gotten the whole to save and or to share some for later and had them cut it into four pieces for convenience thought the next time I'd be more selective with the dressings as it got a bit soggy for the latter part but was still a great. They assemble your sub right beside the counter and wrap it in the pink butcher paper so it all stays in there lol! Okay, I have to be honest... I didn't have any expectations walking into this place. I'm sort of a sandwich snob and I am picky when it comes to my sandwiches. It has to have good bread, the ratio of the veggies and meats have to be just right. Hawaii really doesn't have many good sandwich spots so I was like, "Meh, why not?" Well I had the Manoa Falls sandwich as a small and it was so big! I only ate half and saved the other for later. I stuck with just mayo and mustard even though they have the papaya dressing and I knew I wouldn't like it so I had it on the side. Not really a fan of sweetness in my sandwich. The sandwich was delicious! Bread had a good chewiness and although the sandwiches don't look all that pretty -trust me, they are good! Great texture, good amount of meats, fresh veggies. I read that they make their own bread which is awesome. There's a variety on the menu and have such cute names. Prices are reasonable and the workers there are really nice and friendly. There's seating inside and very clean. I will definitely be back and try some new sandwiches. Plus there's always plenty of parking. So glad we have an awesome sandwich shop in Aiea! read more
