I've heard a lot about the Laotian Style Huli Huli Chicken here at T&L Market in Kalihi and let me just say I was blown away. Served only on Saturday's here at T&L Market this Laotian Style Huli Huli Chicken was Seasoned Well and Fall Off the Bone and that Crack Sauce for dipping was just crazy good. I'm so used to the Shoyu Vinegar type Sauce but this Laotian Crack Sauce was a pleasant surprise and now I'm hooked. Price at $15 for the half Chicken and $25 for the Whole Chicken I should've gotten the Full Chicken because it was that good. I got the $15 Half Chicken but I had to make it into a Plate Lunch so I needed two scoops of White Rice to eat with my Chicken because it's a must. They even have Sticky Rice too seeing that the Menu has Thai and Vietnamese items on their Food Menu as well. Did I tell you that this place is also my go to place for Manapua Truck Kine Grindz too like Pork Hash,Fried Noodles,Fried Chicken and so much more. Takeout lunch from Kalihi, Honolulu, Hawaii... I saw reviews by Bruddah Fran and Angel H. about T & L Market, so I went to check it out. I was lucky to park in one of the two free stalls in front of the shop. There's a funny sign that warns customers to just park there for 10 minutes and "don't eat in your car". LOL! The menu had a lot of variety. I chose Garlic Shrimp, Summer Rolls, Yellow Curry, and Pad see ew. The female cashier was efficient and friendly. She said that it would take about 15 minutes to cook the food. OK! I waited outside because it was cooler. The cozy shop didn't have air-conditioning. I tried everything at home. Too bad the Garlic Shrimp was spicy... whoa! And the Yellow Curry had a kick to it, too! At least it came with a side of rice! The Pad see ew was good and the Summer Rolls were alright. There was a little spot of dry wrapper and the sauce was like a hoi sin type... without chopped peanuts. The shrimps were ripping out of the wrapper, too... but I finished them off! So many of my Yelper friends have been here. Imagine my surprise when one of my co-workers got me a breakfast bowl. I always wanted to try this place. It's a convenience store that also sells plate lunches and breakfast items. He got me a breakfast bowl $7.50. It came with a hot dog, spam, Portuguese sausage, and an over easy egg on white rice. I have no complaints. I love runny eggs over white rice. It's hard to mess up browning the protein. I would like to try one of their plate lunches. Parking is a challenge, they have 2 stalls right in the front and the rest is street parking. When we were there, for lunch, there was a steady stream of customers. Some members of our party got their order rather quickly, others took a while. Their menu is extremely diverse. I ordered the garlic chicken because the picture of it looked really good (the menu is on the wall with huge pictures), unfortunately the food didn't look anything like the picture. So I guess you saw my attempt (last week) when I was attempting to get my Garlic Chicken fix @ K & K Kitchen but totally failed! What a difference a week makes, as today I was successful!!! Yay me! Lol! I had bookmarked this joint called - "T & L Market" in Kalihi, because after seeing the pics of da grindz from a few of my Yelp buddies, I told myself that I should check this place out one day. While doing some online training modules in my office, when lunch time rolled around, I told my coworker if he like check out T & L Market? I'd figure if I took my friend with me, if I could not find parking, I would have my friend drive my car around the block a few times while I ran inside to pick up some lunch time grindz for both of us. I guess the parking gods were lookin' out for me, because when I got to T & L Market, someone had just pull out of the parking lot, so I swooped into the parking space! SCORE!!! Upon walking into the joint, the menu is posted on the wall. There were several fixed plate lunch menu items, or if you want to make a custom plate for yourself, they had a lot of ala carte daily items (see my take out menu pic I posted). Don't want a plate lunch? I also noticed this business sold some bakery items (not sure if they make the pastries themselves, or if they catered it in), candy, & drinks. Although T & L Market is known for their noodles & fried chicken, I opted for the Garlic Chicken Plate because I didn't get my garlic chicken fix last week, and I was so craving for my garlic chicken. For $12.00 smackaz, I got two scoops white rice, a scoop of mac salad, & a whole bunch of boneless garlic chicken. My friend opted for the Mini Garlic Chicken Plate ($9.00) which was the same as my plate, minus a scoop of white rice, and maybe a little less garlic chicken. What can I say about the grub? The food here was pretty good, but not great. The Garlic Chicken marinade was different from what I would get from Sugoi's or K & K Kitchen. The garlic marinade was not as garlicky, or sweet, but some folks like it like that. As for me, I just LOVE Sugoi's garlic chicken marinade, so you probably know which I would prefer. Overall, the prices here are very reasonable, and for what you pay, and what you get, I must say it's DEALAGES Yo! The next time I come here, I will try their noodles & fried chicken, because after all, if you check out all the pics from this business, you'll see a lot of noodles & fried chicken pics! I was in the Kalihi area and looked up a place to eat on google and found this place and I am glad I found it as it worked out perfect. I ordered a spicy chicken plate and it came with 8 wings and macaroni salad and two scoops of rice with some sliced up lettuce for $15. The spicy wings were so good with the rice. No other seasoning was needed. The macaroni salad was good also. Moreover, the couple working there were so nice and they just made everything better and the price was good also. Friendly workers. This place is a good place for a snack. The best thing here is the fried chicken and manapua. I think it's the closest thing flavor wise to Char hung sut filling. Idk how many they make a day but it doesn't seem like they make a lot. We got the last one on our way to do the manapua challenge. The pork hash is just meh. I haven't tried anything else here. This place is so small and obscure that I've driven past it all my life! But let me tell you about their Huli-Huli chicken special only on Saturdays. My friend literally lives 2 houses away ( yes it's a house on busy middle street) and they kept raving about this chicken. Growing up in the 808, if you lived here all your life and never had Huli Huli chicken you were either robbed of a local upbringing or live in Hawaii Kai. Anyhoo, what made this chicken stand out was the hints of lemongrass in the marinade. It's served with Thai sticky rice and a slightly spicy dipping sauce very close to that Vietnamese Nuc Cham. Pleasantly surprised indeed. We got our hot off the grill so she was quite juicy and delicious. FYI parking sucks... you will need a double team effort with one driver to park on the side and one person jumping out to grab the food. There's maybe 2-3 stalls in front of the joint but you will have to take your chances backing out into a busy Middle Street deep in Kalihi on a Saturday. Worth it. read more

T&L Market is the classic hole in the wall establishment. Their menu is simple yet diverse. Plate lunches, dim sum, burgers and fries and even some pastries. The parking can be a little tricky as there are only a couple stalls. Even if you get a stall up front it is a little challenging to back out on to the road. Good thing there are a fair amount of street parking not that far away. I've tried the fried chicken (very good), Teri beef (good), Chicken katsu (good), pork belly, aka lechon(very good), pork hash (good), Teri burger (average), fries (average) and bento (good). The food is not gourmet but it is very reasonably priced. I've visited them on consecutive weekends and spent about $45 on each visit. The food did take a little bit to come out but it was too be expected as I ordered 5 different things. I'd give the service a 4 out of 5. Heard this place was the same and I could get the same food in plate lunch quantities...and I had to come here! Ordered a fried chicken plate, a couple fried noodle plates, some pork hash and we were off! Affordable and huge portions! When you're craving manapua van noodles, this is the next best thing. Stopped by to get $3 fried noodles + pork hash and hotdog (pastry style). Noodles were freshly made and pork hash was just like the ones sold in the manapua van. It was great! Parking sucks so you may need to park on street or along side the road (only 2 stalls). Gave them 4 stars because once in a while the noodles don't have all the garnishments like the pic. This time I went it had like 2-3 pieces charsiu meat but nothing else. There's only 2 parking spaces right up front, so be careful trying to get there. Right outside they were cooking huli huli chicken! Every Saturdays! They have a special every day on a tiny board right by the cashier so don't forget to check it out! We got manapuas and pork hash! The manapua was what we expected; soft and bouncy bun with delicious chunks of pork inside! So ono. The pork hash was small and had lots of msg flavor. It was ok. I have to give one star though. First we had asked for 3 pork hash but found there was an extra pork hash thrown in (was not a freebie btw).... But then found out we were charged a little bit more than was told. But for the rest of y'all, please see my review below: This shop is ran by the same Laotian guys who run the grey manapua truck in KPT, A-building side. Parking is limited in front of the shop. The place is clean. They sell things like canned soda (Diamond Head Red Cream if you like that kine, they get), Asian snacks, face masks. They also can cook up cheeseburgers, fries, hot dog if you like that kine. But the real reason you should come here is to get your fix on some manapua van food. I'm talking fried noodle, fried chicken, burrito, and pork hash. All that good stuff you can only get from a manapua man you can get here at T&L Market. Prices are fairly decent. Food is simple but good. Every time I order my fried noodle, fried chicken, pork hash combo, it brings me back to middle school days, many decades ago lol.
