Mother's Day weekend special for Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10, 2026.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great local restaurant with good food and service in a casual atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Been coming to their various locations for years. Shirt review as this is not our first time here.

We meet here once a week with a large group of retirees (about 20 - 30) for breakfast. Despite our large group, service is good and the food is also good. Today I had the pork chops which had a tasty mushroom gravy. Perfect with the eggs and rice.

The food was good but Chelsea was top notch when it came to service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the ambiance and hope BCD is around long after I'm gone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I want my grandkids to come here in remembrance of me! You and I have the "power of the purse" to make it happen! Otherwise, like Aloha airlines, it will be gone due to lack of support. This is one of those restaurants we want to keep around so come out and visit when you can. The prices are reasonable along with the quality.

Been here plenty of times but was super disappointed. 1) no foundation drinks; 2) only two servers working and the place was packed. Ordered1/2 pack of ribs -only rice no mash available. Said that's only on the week days -literally slap on a long plate and a bowl of rice. 3) ordered turkey cranberry sandwich Bread was like the breadstick cut in half -horrible. Gotta do better please A very disappointing meal!

We used to enjoy coming to the Big City Diner location near Ward Warehouse but that closed long ago. For nostalgia sake, we came here since we were near Pearlridge mall. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Lots of parking outside and lots of seating inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was quite dead for dinner with just three tables occupied the night we stopped by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Menu seemed to be still the same with a large section of pupus, local dishes, salads, sandwiches and burgers. All day breakfast and special kapuna dinner choices/pricing for those 60 and older. I ordered the kim chee fried rice with two sunny side up eggs. The plate was a big serving with almost perfect eggs but the Portuguese sausage was much less than I remember. Definitely could've used more protein to balance the rice. Service was good with frequent refills. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our booth and table were quite wobbly and just shifting our weight would trigger movement! Where was maintenance?[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Not sure how long this diner will be around as there are better places to get similar local food. J

Been here before but I guess I forgot to review. Located across from Pearlridge Diamond head side Big City Diner . Lots of parking available got there around 10:15am sat down right away . The waitress gave us the breakfast menu although they served breakfast only till 10:30am I had to request their regular menu . I ordered their half slab guava ribs and my wife got away with breakfast eggs, choice of meats . The ribs wasn't as good as before it was dry and over cooked . The guava sauce was excellent and the pork just fell off the bone . Plus did the tariff go in effect yet ? lol the prices of the entree is pretty expensive. Support local Support local

Supposed to be hamburger steak with gravy and garlic, mashed potatoes.

I have ordered several meals from this location. Most recently was three weeks ago and I ordered the tequila cream sauce, chicken on top of spinach. It was wonderful!! The chicken was amazingly cooked and the spinach goes so well with the tequila cream sauce. It is one of big city diners classic that need to be around forever!! So if you haven't tried it, you need to! On the other hand, I ordered from this location a week and a half ago and received a horrible food . I ordered a hamburger steak and it was not good. It was a frozen patty that was not cooked all the way through the gravy was watery and they put too much pepper in the garlic mashed potatoes. It was an inedible. I contacted the delivery company to let them know about the quality of the food. They gave me some credit back, but it was horrible to get food that is inedible. It is hit or miss at this restaurant. The food can be very good and other times not so much. Granted it was delivery, but they should put the care and attention as if it was being served at the restaurant itself. My rating is based on the inconsistency of the food.

From my latest review, Josh from BCD's Customer Service messaged me apologizing about my baby back ribs disappointment. I received an apology letter with gift certificates to make up for my bad experience. The letter also included a personal apology from the President/Owner which I appreciated. Thank you for your concern and understanding! We decided to use the gift certificates tonight but didn't feel like eating the ribs so my husband ordered the "Hamburger Steak with Crispy Onions and Gravy". He said he could taste some kind of seasoning in either the hamburger or gravy that made it tasty and would order this again. I ordered "The Magic Mushroom Burger with Fries"...thought it was bland. The mushrooms were probably sautéed in butter and bottled (not fresh) garlic but it needed more seasoning. I've used bottled garlic before but it doesn't have that garlicky taste so I don't use it in my cooking anymore...fresh is always better! I ended up dipping the sandwich in ketchup to give it some taste. I would've given 4 stars for the food and the service we had but because they made amends to my bad experience, the extra star is for their concern and understanding.

The burger itself tasted good as it was cooked with bread mixed in it to make it soft but once you started eating it, the burger fell apart. The bun was thin so it was messy as the sauce and burger started falling out and you needed a lot of napkins. Some people like it messy but it's not my thing. The onions and pickles were a perfect match. Too much American cheese. ________________________________________________ The Premium Purists: 5/10 I was looking forward to trying the burger at Forty Niners and hoped it would be an old fashioned/traditional style deluxe burger. It definitely had the look and right toppings but the patty was a little disappointing. After my first two bites the patties crumbled into pieces and the texture seemed off. It was too mushy and lacked good beef flavor. After learning they mix breadcrumbs in their burger patty, I think the patties I got were not mixed well and the ratio of beef and breadcrumb was off. That is probably why the texture was off, it lacked beef flavor, and crumbled. I would honestly give it another try and go with a single patty. ________________________________________________ The stack analyst: 7/10 Tried the double cheeseburger(dirty style) at 49ers and it was delicious. The fried pickles were the highlight for me. I love fried pickles and they worked really well on the burger. They also didn't hold back on the caramelized onions, which added flavor. The burger had four slices of cheese, so it was definitely rich. The patty had a nice sear on the outside, it did fall apart though. I would've liked a little more salt, but I know that comes down to preference. Bun was nothing special, just your standard setup, but it got the job done. I'd definitely come back and order it again! ________________________________________________ Double stack daddy: 6/10 The burger had a solid foundation, but it was missing flavor and could've used more seasoning. The biggest downside was the bun--it fell apart after the first bite, making the rest of the meal messy. Not a bad burger, but it didn't stand out, and there's definitely room for improvement. ________________________________________________ Bruddah big buns: 4/10 Da patty was mushy. ________________________________________________ Captain messy hands, keeper of the drip: 8/10 I found a winner! This fresh, hand-formed double cheeseburger delivered exactly what I look for--thick, juicy patties with the drip. Every bite was messy, flavorful, and napkin-worthy. It started falling apart halfway through, but that's a compliment in my book. Nothing fancy, just an honest burger executed right. This is the kind of burger that keeps you coming back. CMH Rating: Drip Approved!

(There were a LOT of people waiting!) Lady calling out names as tables were ready really seemed to enjoy her job. Her intonation was pleasant to listen to, and she was easy to understand, nice and loud. Names were being called out at a good pace so tables were clearing quickly. Guess the breakfast/brunch folks were all leaving around that time. Just under 20 minutes my name was called and as soon as we entered the door from waiting on a bench outside there was a hostess ready to seat us. After seating us she asked about drinks and very quickly brought hubby's Dr. Pepper and my Coke Zero (no ice). Mine had a lemon in it, which turns out to be the signal it's a Coke Zero. Added nice flavor, too. She said our server would be right with us, and we had just enough time to scan the menu then our server Alicia came to our table. We ordered immediately and our food came in record time. Hubby's pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon, no butter had tall fluffy pancakes, and no butter. (Some places forget, but not here.) My Salmon Benedict came with eggs poached perfectly, yolks runny, as it should be. I ordered my hash browns "crispy" and they were perfectly crisp on both sides. (Not every place crisps hash browns on both sides...) Alicia came at just the right time to check on us and ask if I wanted my soda refilled. She looked at it and asked if it was a Coke Zero, so the lemon must be the signal. She was very busy (it was bustling inside) but managed to stop by at all the right times. Friendly but no chit chat since it was super busy, very efficient, which was perfect for us. She came by just when we were done and asked if I needed a box for my food, and we asked if we could order a slice of pie to go. Hubby wanted the fresh strawberry pie which is in season. She suggested the strawberry tart, which suited him just fine. I asked if they still had fresh peach pie and she again suggested the tart. Alicia brought our 2 tarts in a paper bag and said she included forks and napkins. She had given me a paper bag for my Benedict but I wanted to help the environment and we were trying to fit it with the tarts. She was eagle eyed and called out to us that she would bring another bag. We explained we just wanted to not waste a bag and showed her the unopened one she had brought with my box. She was amazing. Looking forward to the next time we visit. Hope we get her as our server again. Got home and while the tarts are for dessert tonight, I wanted to enjoy the freshness of the tart crust so I snuck a piece. The crust was so good! And the fresh peaches were great, too. Always better than canned. The yards are really almost like a slice and a half of pie and and neater than taking home a slice, so it's a good deal. Pies are expensive because making pie crusts takes time, so getting extra crust in a tart is great. Hope our next visit goes as well as today's. Thinking of getting the chicken pot pie next time!

Not so much anymore, especially since covid. And, they only carry certain pies daily and add more selection on the weekends. Customer service was still spot on. I was told that the macadamia nut cream pie was only made on the weekends. Ok, I asked if I can still be it by the slice on the weekend and she told me that it is only sold whole. That was a big disappointment because that was my favorite pie there but did not want to get a whole pie. They did have the banana cream and I was able to get by the slice. I ended up getting a slice of custard pie for my 2nd choice. The gal did show me the sign by the register of what pies are available for slice for that day, which wasn't a lot. Both pies tasted ok, nothing special. The banana cream had a few slices of real banana, which was nice. The pie crust was on the thick side and tasted pretty dry. It wasn't the best banana cream pie I've had .The custard pie was meh, didn't have a real good custardy taste and the crust was the same as the banana cream. Overall, the customer service was good and I probably will go elsewhere for pies.

My personal favorite was the honey butter chicken and waffles. That chicken was so well marinated and fried to perfection. I saw a news story on the wall that the owner had worked at Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles. We've been to Roscoe's and this place's chicken was much better. The skin was perfectly crisp and the honey butter sauce was only slightly sweet which added a bit of flavor but did not overwhelm you with sweetness. My kids ate up the chicken meat and I was happy to enjoy the crisp chicken skin by itself. My wife also really enjoyed the waffles and found them to be quite flavorful, again preferring them over what you would get at Roscoe's. We only waited a couple of minutes for a table and our food came out in about 15 minutes. Every employee we interacted with from our server to the bussers were friendly and welcoming. The ribeye loco moco was the highlight (they were out of the prime rib). They give you a FULL SIZED ribeye (maybe 10oz?) instead of a small piece of steak like how they do with a hamburger patty or two, which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered mine medium, but it unfortunately came out very well done. Thankfully, the rich gravy, perfectly cooked eggs, and the $3 pork adobo fried rice upgrade more than made up for it. That fried rice alone is worth ordering. We also shared the chicken and waffles, and the fried chicken was seasoned really well with a great crunch without being overly breaded. My only "complaint" other than the steak temp was that it came with honey but no syrup. I understand the choice, but I wish they at least offered syrup on the side (granted I didn't ask for any). Our bill for the ribeye loco moco and chicken and waffles was around $55, which felt fair for Hawaii especially when you get an entire ribeye. I will definitely be back to try the prime rib loco moco!

The service is faster that way. Otherwise you will be waiting in line for a long time. Its take-out only. I order the Firecracker Chicken. It is a decent size portion and amazing! Super ono! Highly recommend trying the Kiawe wood steak. Really great option! Support your local restaurants.

Café & Grill in Aiea. This plate lunch brings da heat n' is full of flavor. Each bite was onolicious n' one that you'll savor!" SERVICE: friendly n' fully staffed INTERIOR: one person/party can enter at a time. No dine-in; just order n' pay. EXTERIOR: in the same plaza/across from Dipped by Dee. Line forms to the right when facing store. Two benches in the line n' two tables with chairs to the left. WAIT TIME: highly recommend making a phone order n' if you can pre-pay over the phone too, even better. Placed phone order at 12pm on a Saturday, was told a 1 hour wait. Got there around 12:55pm n' the line was maybe 10 parties deep. After waiting 30 minutes, entered store to pay n' receive food. In total, about 1.5 hrs. Suggest getting in line immediately after placing phone order bc if unpaid, still gotta get in line to pay. PARKING: free lot that was completely full during our visit, tiny spaces. OVERALL COMMENTS: portion was huge; more than enough for two people. Plate was heavy. They don't skip on the fried rice n' chicken. Spicy ahi was definitely spicy, the kine heat you can't stop eating. The firecracker chicken was yuMmmy n' saucy. They gave at least 6-7 good size pcs. Maybe a combo of sriracha mayo n' sweet chili sauce. You get it all: sweet, savory, with a slight heat. Now the lup cheong fried rice was so good. Not dry at all n' very flavorful. The potato Mac salad was a good cool down n' to cleanse the palate. I'm already wanting it all again, which means everything was Ono!
