Tonight was exceptional. This is usually (IMO) a four star establishment but tonight I rated it a five. Went for dinner and a drink. We were told (as always) to choose any table so we did. Our server came over quickly and gave us menus, said he'd be right back. He returned and asked if we wanted any beverages to which we responded that we did and we wanted to order our entrees. He took our orders, quickly bringing back our drink orders of a Jim Beam on the rocks and a draft beer. Unfortunately the machine was out of commission so hubby had to settle for bottled. Our drinks came quickly, mine was a generous pour, and hubby's came with a tall glass. Perfect! Meals came quickly, too. I had the boneless Korean short ribs, tender, juicy, with just the right amount of char, served on top of sliced cabbage and sprinkled with sesame seeds. It and the Kimchee were both awesome. Hubby's senior portion meatloaf with gravy and mushrooms were delicious, too. Half of my food went home with me since it's two nice sized slices of Kalbi with plenty of kimchee. Server was very attentive and took good care of us This is one of our favorite places to dine, we don't usually get drinks, but the prices are reasonable. Next time, he'll probably get draft on tap if the machine is back up. read more

Aiea BCD has a great chef ,Cook vs. other BCD. I only get the boneless Kalbi for bfast, and every time I go to Aiea its tops all the others! the others are hit and miss never consistent... That's just my opinion. They all need an upgrade renovation inside but keep all the hanging pics. As of 2day if I see a group of people in their lanai area with no food I will be going elsewhere to eat, mall was not open yet. we were patient but after 55 mins the manager came out and yelled "if you waiting for food we just done feeding the party" to us... we stayed for our food but what the h when we were ordering we should of been told about the party and the wait... what no transparency.... Big City Diner specializes in local comfort food. Portion sizes are big and food is quite tasty. This location closes super early, I believe they gave us last call at 7:30pm. Happy hour has also changed and it's a different vibe. I love that they have a huge parking lot and are close to the mall and Down to Earth. Not a bad choice if you're in the area. read more

Why have I never left stars here yet? We love coming here. I had the teri burger and garlic fries, both so delicious. It's one of the few places my kids and I can agree on. The burgers are really good, but there are also plate lunches. The fried rice never disappoints. They even have an outdoor area for larger parties. Service is quick and friendly. read more

The food was good but Chelsea was top notch when it came to service. I love the ambiance and hope BCD is around long after I'm gone. I want my grandkids to come here in remembrance of me! You and I have the "power of the purse" to make it happen! Otherwise, like Aloha airlines, it will be gone due to lack of support. Been here plenty of times but was super disappointed. 1) no foundation drinks; 2) only two servers working and the place was packed. Ordered1/2 pack of ribs -only rice no mash available. Said that's only on the week days -literally slap on a long plate and a bowl of rice. 3) ordered turkey cranberry sandwich Bread was like the breadstick cut in half -horrible. Always a great spot to grab one of my favorite burgers on island. However, I feel like burger quality has declined a bit over the years. Kimchee fried rice still slaps though. We used to enjoy coming to the Big City Diner location near Ward Warehouse but that closed long ago. For nostalgia sake, we came here since we were near Pearlridge mall. Lots of parking outside and lots of seating inside. Was quite dead for dinner with just three tables occupied the night we stopped by. Menu seemed to be still the same with a large section of pupus, local dishes, salads, sandwiches and burgers. All day breakfast and special kapuna dinner choices/pricing for those 60 and older. I ordered the kim chee fried rice with two sunny side up eggs. The plate was a big serving with almost perfect eggs but the Portuguese sausage was much less than I remember. Definitely could've used more protein to balance the rice. Service was good with frequent refills. Our booth and table were quite wobbly and just shifting our weight would trigger movement! Where was maintenance? Not sure how long this diner will be around as there are better places to get similar local food. J read more

Been here before but I guess I forgot to review. Located across from Pearlridge Diamond head side Big City Diner . Lots of parking available got there around 10:15am sat down right away . The waitress gave us the breakfast menu although they served breakfast only till 10:30am I had to request their regular menu . I ordered their half slab guava ribs and my wife got away with breakfast eggs, choice of meats . The ribs wasn't as good as before it was dry and over cooked . The guava sauce was excellent and the pork just fell off the bone . Plus did the tariff go in effect yet ? lol the prices of the entree is pretty expensive. Support local Support local read more

Third star for the simple fact that big city diner is an iconic establishment. I hate to complain, it's hardly my style when people work hard to prepare a meal let alone serve you and clean your table . Full disclosure! Like I said, third star for the establishment, iconic posture in the community. It was That reason and that reason alone that made me stop there. (the restaurant I originally planned to go was not open at the time I was doing this.) so second choice was big city diner. I won't be little this place. I will just say that the service was subpar. I waited 30 minutes to get a silly burger. My order was incorrect still for a simple burger? My dining partner had finished his meal before I even got my burger delivered to me. That gives you an idea of how bad things were. The establishment is dated. Enough said on that point. Would I go back? Highly unlikely things change with time. The management, the protocol, and a updated establishment that really needs a facelift. Until things change no Bueno. read more

I have ordered several meals from this location. Most recently was three weeks ago and I ordered the tequila cream sauce, chicken on top of spinach. It was wonderful!! The chicken was amazingly cooked and the spinach goes so well with the tequila cream sauce. It is one of big city diners classic that need to be around forever!! So if you haven't tried it, you need to! On the other hand, I ordered from this location a week and a half ago and received a horrible food . I ordered a hamburger steak and it was not good. It was a frozen patty that was not cooked all the way through the gravy was watery and they put too much pepper in the garlic mashed potatoes. It was an inedible. I contacted the delivery company to let them know about the quality of the food. They gave me some credit back, but it was horrible to get food that is inedible. It is hit or miss at this restaurant. The food can be very good and other times not so much. Granted it was delivery, but they should put the care and attention as if it was being served at the restaurant itself. My rating is based on the inconsistency of the food. read more

We came here last night to meet some family that was in town. This place was empty! Only us and two other tables were filled. The service was slow and the food was cold. Not sure how many workers were there but we only saw 2-3. We didn't get waters refilled and we kept flagging down our waiter when we needed something. We were there for THREE HOURS. It was totally empty! The waiter would come to our table then hide in the back. Seriously have never experienced this service at BCD. Even the yummy bread pudding was horrible here. We usually go to the Waipio location which is always 10/10. I will not be coming back to this location. read more

From my latest review, Josh from BCD's Customer Service messaged me apologizing about my baby back ribs disappointment. I received an apology letter with gift certificates to make up for my bad experience. The letter also included a personal apology from the President/Owner which I appreciated. Thank you for your concern and understanding! We decided to use the gift certificates tonight but didn't feel like eating the ribs so my husband ordered the "Hamburger Steak with Crispy Onions and Gravy". He said he could taste some kind of seasoning in either the hamburger or gravy that made it tasty and would order this again. I ordered "The Magic Mushroom Burger with Fries"...thought it was bland. The mushrooms were probably sautéed in butter and bottled (not fresh) garlic but it needed more seasoning. I've used bottled garlic before but it doesn't have that garlicky taste so I don't use it in my cooking anymore...fresh is always better! I ended up dipping the sandwich in ketchup to give it some taste. I would've given 4 stars for the food and the service we had but because they made amends to my bad experience, the extra star is for their concern and understanding. read more

If I could I would rate it NO STARS... From the time we walked in to the time we left i can honestly say that it was TERRIBLE... We had to wait to be seated then it took them almost an hour to take our order. We were gonna walk out, but ah we figure we give them a chance.. BIG MISTAKE... It WASN'T even busy... The servers were extremely rude here. This place seems to have fallen off these days. I showed up for dinner, and the place was completely empty. Bad sign already. The hostess is rude when I ask them if they're serving dinner: If they're empty, how am I supposed to know? Servers fumble around for 5 minutes trying to find me a menu. Why are there no menus on the table? I'm being nice, patient and polite to them this whole time. I realize that being a server is not an easy job. But if the restaurant is completely empty, it can't be that hard, right? I ask some questions about the stuff on the menu, and the waitress is super grumpy and seems irritated that I'm asking questions. Isn't her job to answer questions? And at least to try to be nice or pretend to be polite at least a little? I'm mostly upset because this seems to be an ongoing trend at sit down places I've been to: an overall lack of professionalism. I came tired after work to have a decent meal, and was treated by rudeness and a basic "get out of here" attitude. Keep in mind I was nice and pleasant to them this whole time. I realize nobody really wants to work, but they did lose my business. Part of a server's job is at least to try to be polite, that's not a revolutionary idea. There's plenty of food courts in this area, which are cheaper, have better food, and you don't have to interact with angry staff. Arrived to eat lunch at 11:30 (party of 1). Large part of the parking lot closed (not BCD fault), but annoying. Waited a couple of minutes for the hostess. She said she could seat me, but, they couldn't take any orders for at least a half hour "because they are expecting a large party to come in". I've never had that one. Not that they have a large party so the kitchen is slammed, they are expecting a large party. My boyfriend, daughter and I came here for dinner and it was just okay. The soda was having issues because there was no fizz. My boyfriend even was telling me. The service was okay and the waitress was nice. The food hasn't changed. My fish and chips were good but the fries were cold. Food was just average. Lunch in the Pearlridge area, Oahu, Hawaii... My friend wanted to meet here, so I agreed. Free parking and familiar restaurant (I've been to the Kaimuki and Kaneohe locations) were pluses. The interior had the same ambiance - checkered floor, cozy atmosphere, and local menu items. Service was a bit slow as we waited for glasses of water and a set of utensils for my friend. Our waiter seemed a bit distracted as she was calling out to other customers... in a local, friendly style. I got the Oriental Chicken Salad, which was okay. Nothing mind-blowing. It was fresh and light with grilled, sliced Chicken. The dressing was fine... not too sweet and not too tangy... yay! My friend was a bit disappointed in the Hamburger Steak plate. Don't order online through Grindz to Go (on the Big City Diner website)...the staff doesn't prioritize carry out orders. Submitted my order at 8:58am for 9:30 pickup so I wouldn't have to wait. Got to the restaurant early (9:22) and was asked for my name (to the order)...was told they have it and it'll be a few minutes. Totally fine.around 9:35 staff apologized and said they were working on it and that it was busy. By then most of the customers had eaten and left. Finally got my order at 9:50...think they only started my order after I got there and still took long. I could've walked in a it would have taken just as long...a couple of parties which arrived after me got seated, ordered, and got their food before me. If they are running busy or late on orders they should indicate that so customers can plan ahead. POOR SERVICE and no accountability on half of the front and back of the house. read more

This place needs five more stars. Went there for lunch (11 April) and first let me talk about the service. Our waitstaff, I mean she made us feel like we were dining at her house. Warm, attentive, she was just lovely. I'm sorry to say I didn't catch her name - because we felt like we've always known her. How rare is that? Dark hair and a warm smile. The lovely young lady with red hair who wasn't waiting on us stopped by and asked if we need anything. Such kindness. If that wasn't enough, the manager came by and asked us how our meal was and even offered tickets to a University Volleyball game! If we weren't booked with an event on that day we would have loved it. Again, it's like we were "regulars" the way he greeted us - like you see on TV - makes you feel special. Now the food. I'm telling you, you CAN NOT go wrong with anything on the menu. We had the Tequila Chicken, a NY strip, Kim Chee fried rice, and some cheesy garlic bread. The chicken was tops, juicy and flavorful and with the portobello - perfect. Now the cheesy bread looked like..well garlic cheesy bread. Like something you could make at home. That's Big City Diner though. It's comfort food like your mama was cooking it for you and Mama's garlic bread was delicious. The perfect appetizer if you are saving space for your main and to wet your appetite. The NY strip. Let me say that ordering steak outside of a steak house means taking your chances sometimes. I took my chances, ordered it medium. I think I should have went medium-rare but I got myself a tasty steak. I know now, BCD steak isn't a gamble; it's a solid choice. I got A1, I didn't need it but I like it on my green beans which came with my meal. Again BCD means comfort food. If I had grown up with their Kim Chee Fried rice, I'd be a better man. It's that good. And portions, man it's a lot and that means I get to enjoy it again. Menu says Grandma makes the best in town. She makes the best in -any- town. BCD has a catch phrase of "No diner finer than Big City Diner". There is no finer restaurant to have a nice sit down lunch, with amazing staff, and feel like you came home to food that warms and fills. Beautiful. Ten stars and any more I can find. read more

Got here at 10:45. There was only about 4 people in the restaurant. We were greeted and sat quickly. The food did take a good while to get to us. I think there was only 1 cook back there. However, it was worth the wait. My burger was really good. It was huge as well! There was only 1 waiter as well but he did a good job seeing all our needs were met. I ordered a cobb salad as I have loved it since 1998. Only to receive a chef salad. Was upset angry that I did not get what I originally ordered. To find out they changed the cobb salad recipe to a not so traditional as I just found out. I can tell you that it is a chef salad and definitely not a cobb salad. To spend over $20 for a salad i did not ask for and to receive processed meat. They need to remove cobb salad from menu and call it its correct name. read more

Ok, the word DINER is in their name so that is exactly what you get- a local diner. If you had to choose between other diners like Dennys and here, definitely go here! For a "diner" I am rating it 5 stars as it serves you exactly what you should get at diners. This is a local diner that services large portions of great food. From pancakes to kalbi ribs- you can find something for anyone here. Add a full bar and tvs to watch sports- great little diner to go to. The Pearlridge location is in the old Toys R Us parking lot. Lots of parking. They have inside seating, seats at the bar and then some outside. Dress is super casual. read more
